Beef with chimichurri sauce & scallop & shrimp risotto

Loved this place. We went on a Friday night around 7:30 for dinner. We were seated right away. The tapas portions are pretty great. All dishes have are really full of flavor that tickles your taste buds. The service was great, food & drinks came in no time. It started getting packed around 11 pm. The music was great & the ambiance was super comfortable. We ordered the flambe shrimps with garlic herb butter appetizer, as well as the patatas bravas with aoli sauce, flambe cheese, hummus with homemade naan, beets with pistachio & cilantro salad, mushrooms with pancetta, burrata with cherry tomatoes in reduced balsamic & basil, scallop & shrimp rissotto, beef with chimichurri sauce. All really delicious & enough for 3 people. Would definitely revisit this place again.

We met with Charlotte and she gave a corner table surrounded by hanging plants, vines with rose like petals. We sat on cushions outside on the terrace, surrounded by lovers, and people celebrating the end of the grueling work week. Charlotte and Mikael tended to all our needs as we endulged in a surreal experience together that included the great food. whom ever the cook was, they are an exquiste cook, the food was very well made and presented as though it were for the gods. Enjoy!

    Patatas bravas.

Come time to move, there was a table right next to where we were, so we moved over, and the bar sent us over a round of shots (and to my dismay, I cannot remember what was in it!

I wanted to share my experience because their online and in person menu is quite ambiguous and doesn't do justice in explaining their tasting menus. What I really like about this restaurant is that unlike many, they don't make everyone order the same thing. It just requires a minimum of 2 people for the tasting menu and everyone else can order what they please otherwise. The $55 tasting menu is pretty worth it imo. The fact that a drink alone is about $17 as is makes it worth, because it comes with multiple tapas and a drink of choice. The server tried his best to explain everything to us beforehand, but we couldn't help but start to worry during the meal when a few plates came out and we hadn't seen anything for a while. Basically, there are 3 courses, and each course contains multiple items which come out pretty quickly all at once. We started off with lighter apps like edamame, karaage, gyoza, and Japanese pasta. There will be a waiting period before the next course comes out (but don't panic like we did, it doesn't end here). The second course contained tuna poke, a vegetable dish, beef tataki, and takoyaki. There is another waiting period before the third (and heaviest) course comes out. We received pork ribs (a crowd favourite), salmon, and a watermelon salad to end. There were definitely more dishes that I'm forgetting but by the end of it we were all stuffed and pleasantly surprised with the variety we received and unanimously thought it was pretty worth. The restaurant environment is also such a vibe... just a great social setting overall. We had some people in our group that opted out of the tasting menu and decided to share à la carte style, and they also enjoyed their meal and thought it was worth it too. I'd highly recommend this spot as it was a highlight during our trip.

There was a nicely selected set of local beers on the menu. We had a few and they were great. I won't detail them as I think the selection changes routinely. It was tough to decide what to get. I was poutine-curious but was unsure about the foie gras gravy. Andrew ordered the poutine with the duck confit. He loved it and said it was among the best poutine he has had. I went for the traditional mussels as Andrew said this is a thing to get in Montreal, they will do it well. He was right, the bowl was huge and the mussels and sauce were excellent. The only thing I would change is I like a baguette with mussels more than fries so if that is an available substitution I would be all in. I loved this place, I would go back again when I return to Montreal.

This is a bar that also has a small amount of table seating, but the ambiance is clean and nice, not like a dive bar. Our server was great as well. I had the burger and I added blue cheese and pickles to it. They gave me lots of pickles which was great, but the blue cheese was spicy, I think it was blended with horseradish or something. My dad had the French onion soup and the feta with mixed vegetables. To drink I had the L'alveole, which was tasty and similar to a paloma, but could have benefitted from some salt or tajin on the rim.

(I came several times and often after leaving more expensive less satisfying restaurants) And that's before getting to the stellar wine/drink menu, replete with GOOD non alcoholic options. Wonderful curation of nerdy, interesting and TASTY wines. Special shoutout to our phenomenal dreadlocked server who had a way of explaining the food/menu/drinks and checking in that didn't feel overbearing, too wordy, or awkward... just kind and attentive. The service was friendly but they seemed short staffed that night. We were trying to refill our water glasses but it took a while since I couldn't find any waiter or waitress around. Now let's start with the food: Focaccia: 5/5 bread was warm, toasty and tasty but the dip was the highlight Leeks with smoked mackerel, mustard, tobikko: (2.5/5) too creamy with a hint of mackerel and leeks Calamari chou-fleur, asian pear, chili beurre blanc: (2/5) very soupy and too much cream and not flavorful Black cod miso sauce, daikon, kale: (2.5/5) cod was tender but my bite had too much miso on it. It was extremely salty and not well balanced Beef tartare with mushrooms, Asiago: (1/5) mushy texture and way too much Asiago cheese. Flank steak with burnt chili salsa, szechuan pepper sauce, pickled peppers: (2/5) steak was not tender at all and the sauce was overwhelming Fried sea bass with bok choy, soya, nuoc mam (3/5): presentation was great but too many bones with too little meat. Flavor was good and I enjoyed the warm crispy fish with the Vietnamese style salad Overall, my special dinner was disappointing. I felt like the main ingredient never shined and their cheese or cream or sauce were just too overpowering. I really wanted to like Cadet but it fell short of my expectations.

Calamari for an app. A lobster roll for my meal and a drink. The sangria came quick and was good, a little syrupy. The calamari and lobster roll took a while, but maybe they are a bit more relaxed in Canada. No one was available, even for me to waive down, no check ins either. Again, probably customary in Montreal, I don't know the culture that well. The calamari was pretty looking, but it was tough as a well done leather glove. The "lobster roll" had about two pieces of lobster, the rest was small shrimp. The flavor was good, the bun was perfect. But still, for the price, a disappointment. The French fries were delicious but soggy. Maybe that was a spin on Poutine.??? I sat for an hour without being able to get someone. I will not return.

It was the piece de resistance. The fish was perfectly cooked, and the cheek/head was juicy all the way to the tail. The sides were fine, the papas bravas could have been crispier, but fine. Green beans were nicely seasoned. Had half and waved the white flag. Paired it with a tasty Albariño. Great start to quick sojourn in Montreal.
