We had been walking. And walking. And walking. Eventually I had to inform Mum and Dad that their tiny Italian Greyhound had reached his contractual step limit. Enter: Henrietta. We found a spot on the big covered street patio, which was absolutely buzzing. Nearly every table was occupied, there were several other four-legged patrons relaxing with their humans, and somehow the whole thing still had an easy, laid-back neighborhood feel. Exactly what I needed after a very demanding day of being carried around Montreal. Mum and Dad ordered a couple of drinks. Then they ordered the popcorn with Manchego, chili and lime. Friends. This was not ordinary popcorn. It arrived piled ridiculously high with chili-lime seasoning and what may have been the finest Parmesan-adjacent cheese shavings these eyes have ever witnessed. Editor's note from Mum: It was Manchego. Whatever. There was cheese. I became extremely interested. Mum and Dad kept saying things like, "Oh wow, this is really good," while eating piece after piece directly in front of me. I believe the official hospitality term for this is hostile dining. Still, Henrietta turned out to be exactly the kind of place we love finding while traveling: not somewhere we necessarily planned our entire day around, but somewhere we wandered into, sat down with the dog, ordered a couple of drinks and suddenly realized we were having a really nice afternoon. The covered patio is especially great because you still get all the Montreal street life without feeling like you're sitting directly on the sidewalk. And judging by my fellow canine customers, I wasn't the only one who approved. Dogba's verdict: 4.7 paws out of 5. Drinks for the humans: plentiful Fellow four-legged patrons: several Covered patio: excellent Signature popcorn: apparently phenomenal Quantity of cheese within sniffing distance: alarming Quantity of cheese allocated to Dogba: we need to talk Would return. Preferably before Mum and Dad reach the bottom of the popcorn. read more

Cute bar! I enjoyed the cocktail called "Wayne". The popcorn was decent as well. The menus are cute with little post-it notes. There is some outdoor seating in front of the building, and plenty of indoor seating as well as spots at the bar. It is fun to sit at the bar and watch the drink process. read more

We came here for a light dinner and drinks. We were able to sit outside, which was very nice. It was an eclectic menu for dinner... Not sure it really met our expectations. Drinks were OK but nothing special. Our server however, was very nice and attentive. read more

Great spot with inventive and creative food. Delicious. Service is excellent. One of the better places in the area.

THIS WAS SO GOOD! A definite highlight in Montreal. All around amazing food, ambiance, service, cocktails, and wine list. All of our cocktails were amazing, and food recommendations are definitely the steak tartare and burrata. Our server was Antoine G who was exceptional and had great recommendations! It was bustling and a bit on the loud side but it made for a great vibe. Note they don't have wine by the glass on their menu but they do offer it so make sure to just ask if you're interested in wine but don't want a full bottle. Fun fact: this used to be baldwin barmacie years ago, and it's still the same owners. Love love this spot and highly recommend! read more

Really nice ambiance, cool vibes, and good lighting. Gréât place for date night and to stop by for a drink and some small plates. The tables are quite small though! They have a nice menu of small plates including burrata, chicken liver parfait, steak tartare and ceviche and much more! We tried those dishes and really enjoyed the burrata and chicken liver parfait. Cocktail menu was really nice, drinks weren't too expensive. Of the ones we tried, two gin cocktails and a mezcal one, they were very light and not tasting overly of alcohol. Definitely will return to try their famous popcorn! read more

We had the gnocchi & the scallops. Both had amazing sauces, only sad there wasn't more in the servings because it was so good. Everything tasted amazing! read more

Loved this bar. The drinks were quite good the service was very friendly and I loved the two appetizers we got. The grilled calamari with black rice and the popcorn was the best popcorn I've ever had and I love my popcorn!! The vibe is electrifying. Decor is very trendy. We really enjoyed the atmosphere here. We only had a drink each and shared an appetizer, but it was a really laid back and cool environment. The waitress was really friendly and helpful in giving us recommendations or guiding us through her favourites. If we weren't as hungry or were there for longer, we definitely would've ordered more. Definitely a place to check out! read more

I came here with girlfriends after dinner on a Saturday night. All the tables were taken but we sat at the bar a few minutes. Then we were able to grab a table. The staff is knowledgeable and can give recommendations, although my friends didn't love the wine they got. I liked my cocktail though. It's more of a data spot, as groups are small and keep to themselves. read more

I haven't eaten here since the change from Barmacie, but I did swing by after dinner recently and just loved the look and feel, the friendly service, and the affordable and dry and lovely glass of cava they had on the menu. We were able to cozy in with our friends who were already there, a kind person came and offered to tuck our coats away in the closet which made the small space feel not cramped. We were also able to order and pay promptly which helped since we were running to a show. The lighting is soft and romantic, the vibe is just right for a chill date or a friend hang with intimate overtones, or for laughs on Laurier with new friends.. read more

I hadn't been here since it was Baldwin's barmacie. We were looking for a calm place for a drink on a Saturday night and decided to check it out. I love the look and decor - the long communal table running through one side of the place is well done. The music (authentic Latin) was great albeit a bit loud and the ambiance waa nice. There is an extensive wine list (most choices available by the bottle only) as well as a cocktail menu. Drinks were good - olives we ordered to nibble on were a tiny portion. We didn't eat but the choices looked interesting. Service was just ok - waitress was lovely and took our coats but waiters who subsequently served us were a little cold. read more

Exquisite decor, tingling music, and above par drinks. Henrietta provides a good place to gossip with friends. The hustle and bustle doesn't take away from the great service with its ever smiling and welcoming staff. Maybe not a good choice for a first date since the high decibels can interrupt a flowy conversation. The cocktails were flavorsome, as you would expect from a decent bar. However, I think there is room to improve the originality of the beverages which explains the last missing star. PS: Taxes are included within the menu which is, I thought, a nice feature and goes along with the European concept of Henrietta. read more

Bar Henrietta - Two cocktails we ordered. - Wine Bars Near Me - Montreal, Quebec

Bar Henrietta is a cute spot to grab a drink and a snack on Laurier. I loved the lively energy and pretty decor (casual chic). The staff were attentive and friendly and checked on us frequently , very good customer service. I had a glass of cava (nice dry and refreshing) and my boyfriend had a dark beer. We also ordered some food from their menu. We started with the chicken liver mousse with tomato jam , it was delicious- great flavour without being overpowering and great silky smooth texture. The jam added a touch of sweetness without being too much. We also had the Portuguese bifana pork sandwich , the bread was fresh and the meat was tasty and not dry (it came with a spicy sauce on the side and pickles on the side as well). The pickles were actually excellent. The sandwich while fresh and good wasn't your authentic bifana it was more a cold cut version of it as opposed to the traditional cut of meat. We had Natas for dessert , these were good but again didn't taste traditional, still tasty and enjoyable tho ! Pricing was reasonable -mid range. This is a great place for a nice drink with a friend or with a date. Not great for big groups though since the space is very tight. Other than that I really loved this place , great choice for a nice drink and a small bite to eat in the plateau. read more

I like some of the wines at this place , specially the organic ones. The service is very good too as our waiter knew a lot about the wines. About the food it leaves a lot of space to improve. Wow...very bad...very bad. Where to begin??? Don't like the decor....service ....heuuu what service????!!! There are no fun reasonable possibilities to accommodate 4 people....what kind of seating concept is this??? I was told that they don't take reservations ...but the place was 3/4 empty....and were told that we had to move from the only reasonable table / banquette that could accommodate us...as it was reserved at 11:00pm(????)....as we left at 10:55pm...no one, whom allegedly reserved that specific banquette, was to be seen...never mind. Cocktails: We love cocktails...None of us like any of our cocktails...dunno what to say really. Food: very decent! Carpaccio, mini octopus, grilled cheese. The popcorn, cheese etc thing...abort!! Very oily. Nope we cannot be back...we much prefer Barmacie, on all aspects. read more

I wish I could say "the king is dead, long live the king", but somehow I feel Henrietta is still in search of its identity or I simply miss the bar that used to be at the same location: Barmacie. The ambiance was nice, the music was happy, although the place became slowly noisy with the Saturday crowds. We were party of ten and the only available table for us was long and narrow with stools without back support that I find suitable for very short visits. I think what made me sad is the list of cocktails. I bothered trying the Goldeneye, which would have been a hit, if the glass wasn't full of so much ice to dilute to maximum the intended spiciness. On the other hand the Bloody Caesar was soooo spicy that my lips were burning while I was drinking it, although it was made Russian strong as per the wishes of one of my friends I wouldn't feel the vodka. Had to order another beer to wash the heat. In a matter of fact our host offered a substitute when he heard my complaint, which is in line of what a good service in a bar should be. Prices of the drinks are overall reasonable, but my less than ten olives appetizer did not deserve a five dollars charge. I hope the cocktails in Henrietta will improve over time as I would love to come back, sit at the bar with my date and write more excited review! read more

Bar Henrietta - So sorry to announce, Henrietta didn't pass the Bloody Caesar test. - Wine Bars Near Me - Montreal, Quebec

Nice ambiance, really cute patio, I enjoyed the wine and apps I tried, but this only gets 3 stars because our waiter was really bad. I tried several VERY different types of wine and he re-used my wine glass each time! This is supposed to me a wine bar, isn't it? The person I was with even said "you're re-using the same glass?" and he either didn't hear or didn't react. And then proceeded to not bus any my partner's empties. Really weird. read more

It breaks my heart to see anything but a 5 star review for Bar Henrietta. We had a fabulous time and loved everything about it from the playlist, to the wine selection, to the ceviche and roasted jambon. So lovely, such a delight. It was the perfect way to begin our evening. read more

I used to come here before when it was Baldwin Barmacie, and Henrietta does make an impressive change in terms of the decor and ambiance of this cocktail bar. We came here mainly to try their "tapas-style" menu. As we walked in, the place was pretty packed and we were able to grab a "2 seat" table but we were 3 guests so we kinda had to squeeze in. The table is quite small. It took a while before we got to place our order and the service was horrible. The server/bartender didn't take the time to greet us, smile, or show any type of interest in what we wanted to order. We got our drinks first and I would definitely recommend a Mojito. It's served in an stainless stell glass with a snowball on top. Quite a cute concept. Our food arrived after 25 minutes and I must give them 4 stars on the food. Everything is delicious and I would recommend the ceviche, the batata and the sausage. YUMMY! We wanted to order more drinks, but no one ever came back to see if we wanted anything else/how we were doing. We ended up just grabbing the bill and leaving. The server never thanked us or showed any emotion. I am giving 3 stars based on the crappy service we received. Other than that, it's a great place to catch up with friends and grab drinks. read more
