From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with genuine warmth. Even though the restaurant was absolutely packed, the service never missed a beat. Every person on the team seemed fully in sync, effortlessly anticipating what guests needed before they even asked. It's rare to see that level of teamwork executed so smoothly. We ordered: * Le croque-pétoncle (scallop sandwiches) * Brochette de langue de boeuf (beef tongue) * Boeuf de pâturage (raw grass-fed beef) Oursin QC (sea urchin): It was silky, and has that nutty toasted richness from the brown butter. Parfait de foie (liver parfait): It was smooth, and velvety without being heavy. It's the kind of dish that lingers in your memory long after the meal ends. I still occasionally talk about it. Every dish was thoughtful and balanced, not a single bite needed extra seasoning. The flavors had depth, and precision. And though the scallop sandwiches and dessert didn't quite hit the same high notes for me, but everything else more than made up for it. Amazing food and amazing service! I can't wait to be back again and just for that parfait de foie alone.
Came with my husband to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We got a bottle of wine, the parfait de foie (10/10), the scallop sandwich (10/10), the duck (10/10) and the leek filled with ricotta and truffle. My least favorite was the the leak, it didn't taste like truffle at all. It would have been great if they had an English version of the menu. Our server was ok, a little pushy with what things to get. Some other of the staff that came to clean our plates, or the chef that brought us the bread were amazing. Overall a very good experience with a few things to improve.
I don't think this place needs any more praise than it already has--being named the best restaurant in Canada speaks for itself. But after dining here, I can say with absolute certainty that the title is well deserved. We had three appetizers and two mains, as suggested by our waitress based on two people dining. Every single dish was exquisite. The standout for me was the sea bass--the sauce alone completely blew my mind. The level of effort and technique that goes into something as seemingly simple as a sauce speaks volumes about the passion and precision behind every plate. From start to finish, the experience was nothing short of exceptional. If you have the chance to dine here, don't hesitate--it's a meal you won't forget.
The food was exceptional. The service was even better. Great vibes all night. Four of us had about 8 courses. We were talked into dessert, and no regrets. Loved the volaille, duck ragu, and the scallop sandos. Will be recommending VML to everyone I know living in or visiting Montréal.
Everything was just perfect great food with wonderful stuff and atmosphere cheers!!! Great bottle of wine few dishes were the best I ever had
Mon Lapin was a great experience - food, ambiance and service were fantastic. The atmosphere inside is casual and the service is friendly. If you don't speak French, be sure to ask the staff to explain the menu items. They can also help choose wine pairings or dishes for your table. The menu is seasonal but there are some items that are usually on the menu: - Scallop Sandwich / Le croque-pentoncle, rouille classique ($17) - Leeks with potato chips / conserve de poireaux comme des moules ($16) - Buckwheat Cake (dessert) I definitely recommend the scallop sandwich. Of the dishes, I enjoyed the lighter dishes at Mon Lapin, and I found the meat dishes and dessert to be on the heavier side. For example, the leeks and potato chips were great, as was the razor clams that we got. I personally found the chicken to be quite heavy and the buckwheat cake was a bit on the sweet side for me. The flavors are still really good, however. Reservations can be hard to get, but this is definitely a place worth visiting! I would also recommend getting an earlier reservation as the meal will probably take ~2hrs.
Visited Montreal and had dinner here. I think this was voted "best restaurant in Canada" somewhere. I will say, it was not life changing by any means and some dishes I enjoyed more than others, but overall I had a lovely experience and I would recommend dining here. I had weekend dinner reservations for two people and this seems like the kind of place that you may need to make reservations for. Though there is bar area seating in the back (not sure if this is for walk ins). Ambiance / Service: cute spot that feels casual, but elevated. Has cozy neighborhood-y vibes. Restaurant is bright and airy. I think this would be a good spot for a date night, a place to take out of town guests, or even just a cute friend dinner. Service was exceptional. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. Menu was only in French and she kindly walked us through everything in detail. Food: we shared everything, which is what I think you're meant to do. Portions aren't very big so for some of the dishes I would recommend ordering at least 2 if you have 4+ people. I like that the food is relatively "simple", emphasis on a few fresh ingredients, but it's executed very well. Can't remember the exact names of what we got and I think they update the menu frequently... -Scallop Sandwich: ok this sounds strange and not very good, but oh my goodness it was delicious. Not seafoody at all. Almost like a grilled cheese, but with scallops. Comes with 2 small slices. A MUST. -Cured Salami with Cheese: the meat has the bits of cheese in it. Simple, but perfectly savory and rich. Recommend. -Some type of crudo with dip: I can't recall what this was, but it was so simple, but so refreshing. The dip had a lot of flavor. Recommend. -Some type of pasta that looked like balls of mozzarella with a fresh green sauce. Again, seemingly simple, but so tasty. Recommend. -Soft Shell Crab: flavorful. Delicious. Recommend. -Sourdough Breaded Chicken: this was actually a decent portion size. I believe this is a dish they are known for, a staple for them. This actually was our least favorite primarily because it was the least flavorful. Chicken was cooked beautifully but it was very under seasoned. There's a dessert they're know for, again can't recall! But it's literally a mini size cake. Not the best dessert I've had, but it was unique and I would order if you're going for the first time.
Very unique dishes with a amazing wine list and friendly staff! Definitely can see why it's ranked #1 in Montreal. We were lucky to lock in a reservation at 8:30 pm and we were seated within 15 minutes of arriving. The restaurant was packed! The hostess was very sweet and checked in with us often. Once we sat down, our server came by to explain the whole menu to us which was very nice as everything was in French. I started with a sea urchin and my goodness this is one of the best uni I've every had. So sweet and fresh. Then my mom and I shared a Scallop Sandwich appetizer. It was so bouncy and tasty. Like a mochi consistency between buttery toast. For mains, we got the lobster pasta and it was heavenly. Light sauce but rich flavor and lots of meat. The deconstructed duck leg was a little disappointing. The meat was cooked medium rare but it was very chewy and tendon filled. The skin was crispy but also very tough to chew. The flavor was tangy and savory but the overall difficulty eating the dish threw off the experience. We ended on a sweet note with the buckwheat cake and it is beautifully presented. It wasn't super sweet which I loved and had a very unique malty taste. Worth a splurge!
Chosen as Canada's best restaurant, Mon Lapin was a huge let down. One caveat, the temperature in Montreal was hot and humid, 93 degrees, and Mon Lapin was full. Our decision to sit at the bar facing the kitchen was stupide, because it was hot. Everyone at the restaurant was lovely, but we were miserable nonetheless. Our hope relied on the food, but the dishes did nothing to lift us out of the inferno. Sticking to a seafood theme, we chose to start with the scallop sandwich and the raw scallops from the Iles de Madeleine. Mon Lapin holds onto a small plates concept. Everything is to share. Both scallop dishes were refreshing but nothing more. For entrees, we chose poached Halibut and marinated white asparagus with lobster. The Halibut was the star of the evening, but that star isn't getting a review in Variety. In fact, our comped tiny Cannolis tasted best of all. While service at Mon Lapin was well-meaning, they were all running around frenetically. It was akin to an ADHD convention. Mon Lapin is a casual joint, and the staff goes out of their way to let you know they're down to earth, but it seemed like they were trying to go Around that World in Eighty Days. Mon Lapin has an extensive and eclectic wine list and would fair better as a wine bar that serves good food. No, Mon Lapin is not Canada's number one restaurant. Edulis in Toronto and St. Lawrence in Vancouver were infinitely better. Pricing is fair at Mon Lapin, a little over $200 Canadian for four dishes, one glass of wine and one cocktail.
We were so happy to snag one of the latest reservation times for our trip to Montreal. Top tier service that made the best recommendations including food and drinks. For a group of 3, we arrived with a comfortable appetite and shared 7 plates and 3 desserts. Reduce the number of plates if you're looking to sample the dishes but increase the plates if you arrive hungry. Everything we ate was impeccable. Mezzalune di patate was my favourite dish of the night. The shitake mushrooms were a burst of flavour. Buckwheat cake was the recommended dessert that was remained more consistent on their menu. Set the Resy reminders if you plan to visit, you won't regret it.
In the 10 years my wife and I have been together, I have never seen her so happy eating food. Lively atmosphere with bar seating facing into an open kitchen. The food and service was exceptional. In our opinion, let the chef decide what you eat. The food was different, which we loved. The scallop sandwich was one of the most unique and enjoyable dishes we have ever had. The waitress paired each of our dishes with a different wine. Given her knowledge, you would assume she was a sommelier. 2.5 hour dinner experience was a little long for our preference. If they could get it down to 2 hours, it would be perfect. Overall, this was one of the best food experiences we have ever had and would recommend Vin Mon Lapin to anyone looking for top cuisine in Montreal.
Title of best restaurant in Montreal is very well deserved. Every dish was excellent - a perfect balance of rich yet subtle flavors. Our favorite was the Chicken Liver parfait with fresh vegetables. It was so creamy and light we had to ask if it wasn't fois gras. My husband and I had very nice white and red natural wine and we loved the Fukuoka sake. The gem of the night though was our server Fiona. She was so knowledgeable and passionate about all the dishes, it made us want to try everything but she made sure to tell us the right number of dishes to order. There was a mix up with the kitchen and they ran out of the chicken dish so she went out of her way to make sure we were happy with our replacement dish and gave us extra free dessert. That is hospitality!! We would come back to Montreal just to eat here again!
It's easy to see why this place is popular among those in the hospitality industry: inventive, delicious food that tries intriguing things in an unstuffy atmosphere. The signature scallop croquet sandwich was rich and delicious, it was fine with or without the Dijon mustard. The white asparagus was so fresh. The sourdough encrusted chicken was novel and delicious. The revelation was a chocolate torte dessert topped with a chartreuse-coffee cream that managed to identify a combination I never knew I needed in my life, but now I do. The staff were well trained, knowledgeable and pleasant. They're also a bit stretched so it wasn't quite the personal feel at some of the other places I tried that were a bit more formal. It feels like an exceptional neighborhood restaurant where you're a visitor (assuming regulars aren't reading this)--just not quite as at home as other places. The staff wasn't as welcoming as the best, that's a management issue. The wine selections were well paired and enjoyable. I made a horrible mistake at the end and ordered a cocktail. The rum cocktail I ordered may be one of the strangest disasters I've ever tasted. I've tried probably every rum cocktail under the sun. I have no idea what they mixed or why someone thought it was a good idea, it was putrid heat with no payoff. Stick to wine. It was a great experience, just short of the best I've seen in Montreal. Recommended!
Crudo (7/10): decent, but didn't stand out much. I don't remember what fish it was - maybe yellowtail? Tagliolini (8/10): Very nice sauce, reminded me of a Japanese cod roe pasta. Creamy, smooth, nice texture. Breadcrumbs were delicious. Stracciatella w/ Bottarga (8.5/10): Very unique dish. I loved the bottarga-flavored radish. Added a nice splash of seafood taste into the salad. The stracciatella was amazing. White Asparagus (8.5/10): Very well-executed. Asparagus was tender. The greens on top were nicely charred. Sauce was tasty. Buckwheat Cake (8/10): Excellent cake. Simple, but decadent. Not too sweet either Though this is the top-ranked restaurant in Montreal, I still have to say Beba is my favorite. Although Mon Lapin is good, the service and taste both fall short of Beba's. read more
I know there was a high expectation from this restaurant and I will say they even exceeded those. We did the tasting menu and added the leeks. I am obsessed with the leeks and scallop toast. I will crave those!! The only critique I have is the duck was a little chewy and could have been a little more crispy/fried. But aside from that everything was amazing and fresh. Also, the wine selection was great. The staff were informative and nice. They timed out all the course perfectly. I told my husband I'd literally fly to out here for 24 hours just to make dinner reservations here and leave the next day. It's expensive but it's very well worth it. Also, the size of the restaurant looks small, but it is very spacious. You don't feel crowded. read more
Wow. This lived up to its reputation. The food and extensive wine list were both on point, and the place had a calm clean presence. The service was super friendly as well and very attentive.. although the dinner lasted hours (maybe that was our fault since they didn't see to bring more plates until we cleared the prior ones?). You MUST get the scallop sandwich! Insane. I also was shocked by how delicious the leeks and fresh pasta were. Definitely I would return! read more

I understand why Mon Lapin is the best restaurant in Canada! It's definitely top notch. Every dish we ordered was so delightful and first bite was always amazement. The green tomato salad was incredible. The tuna amazing! The cod perfectly cooked! My bday cake melted in my mouth. This place is not big at all. I had managed to grab a time slot for 930pm just the day before. At 10pm the place was still so busy so our waiter was preoccupied. But he was quite a charmer and made us feel very welcome. The menu changes quite often so I'm sad I didn't try more dishes but I will definitely be back. read more
My husband and I were hoping to eat at Joe Beef again on our recent trip to Montreal; however, we could not secure a reservation. That was when I stumbled upon Vin Mon Lapin, a restaurant that is also part of the Joe Beef Group and one of the top 50 restaurants in Montreal right now. I was ecstatic to find two openings for a Saturday night, one for 5pm and one close to 10pm. I snagged the 5pm slot immediately. We arrived that Saturday a little after 5pm and were seated immediately. We looked at the menu. It was limited and was entirely in French. Neither my husband nor I can read French so we quickly downloaded an app on our phones to help translate the menu which did a good enough job for us to understand what is on the menu. But even if we didn't have the app, most if not all the people working at the restaurant were bilingual and there were staff members stopping by tables to assist and translate the menu for other non-French speakers like us. The restaurant constantly changes their menu to feature Quebec's freshest ingredients, which is why the menu is limited and you will not find a menu on their website. Vin Mon Lapin has a large selection of natural wines, so we asked our server, Kevin to provide some recommendations. We told Kevin our preferences, and he came back with 3 bottles of wine he selected. For each wine, he talked about the wine region, terroir, grape varietal, and taste with so much knowledge and detail. The restaurant did not have a sommelier, but Kevin may as well be one. We decided to go with one of the 3 wines Kevin recommended -- a juicy Spanish Mencia. As for food, we ordered a snow crab and bone marrow dish, a daily special, and the calf tartare to start. Unfortunately, the snow crab tasted kind of flavorless. The star of the dish was really the toast that came with the bone marrow. It was just two bite size pieces of toast with the most delicious spread on it. I would have loved to eat more of that. We also had the calf tartare, with anchovies and nettle, served on top of a green, also nettle? sauce. The calf tartare was easily one of my favorite dishes of the night. It was very balanced. The anchovies and capers provided the dish with enough saltiness and the anchovies weren't fishy. The green nettle sauce under the tartare had the perfect amount of acidity to round out the tartare. After each course, our table would be wiped down, and we'd get a clean set of utensils. For our mains, my husband and I shared the Strozzapreti pasta with cod sauce, the Pork cheek with beans, and half of the Sourdough free-range chicken. The Strozzapreti was an okay pasta. The pork cheek and the sourdough free-range chicken were absolutely delicious. Highly recommended. After all that food and wine, we were so full. We had no room for dessert. Overall, my husband and I enjoyed ourselves at Vin Mon Lapin. I have to say I'm glad to have been able to check out Vin Mon Lapin on this trip to Montreal. read more

Curiouser and curiouser! That was what led us to Mon Lapin when we visited Montreal. The restaurant vibe was youthful & loud. As an offshoot of Joe Beef, they recently climbed to #6 on Canada's Best 100 restaurants. This was based on quality & diversity of culinary offer. We arrived after navigating through Little Italy from Marché Jean-Talon. Nearly late for this important date, we were promptly seated in this bright stylish restaurant. The daily menu was distinctively local with fresh ingredients. Our appetizers were razor clams & scallop croques. Razor clams were chopped into refreshing small morsels mixed in with crunchy celery. Crispy scallop croques were bolder in flavour especially when dipped in a green aioli sauce. This was followed by homemade tagliatelle pasta with whelk & diced fresh garlic. Staff kindly served our mains as shareable dishes so we could all enjoy the bouncy al-dente pasta. Moist & buttery halibut arrived topped by aromatic nettle leaves, and were delicious with the herb-based cream. The most curious dish was the green asparagus with lobster, which our server assured included lobster underneath the greens. Sure enough, sweet lobster meat mixed well in the chopped asparagus salad. We had a pleasant meal overall, with attentive service & frequent plate changes as the kitchen caught up with our food. Mon Lapin is lively & relaxed compared to formal dining. While our dishes didn't quite blow us away, glad we came here for an authentic Montreal dining experience. read more
I had my Christmas Eve dinner with my husband here and the decor/music/ambiance made us feel the holiday cheer which was lacking in the other restaurant we dined at. This place had exceptional food and service! All of the folks here are genuinely friendly and study their menu, food, and drinks. My waitress gave the most impressive rundown of the menu in English. Needless to say, I trusted her and her recommendations. The best plates were the simpler ones like the foie gras radicchio salad and the beef tartare. Love the pasta with truffles too (chef's kiss). read more

A friend of mine who lives in Montreal suggested we dine here while I was in town. We sat at the bar and a lovely young lady named Rose provided us with an amazing tasting menu of her choice throughout the night. She also presented us with many wonderful wines and beers to go along with pairings to the tasting menu. I was extremely impressed by her abilities as well as the property and the chef. I would highly recommend this wonderful establishment read more

We came in and they sat us down. We asked about wine list and suggested if we were ok with us, wine by the glass to pair for each entree we were having. Everything that we had was a combination of an explosion of flavors and perfection! The ambiance was great. Cozy and intimate. Not loud. The service was above and beyond. I will definitely be coming back. read more

From the time I walked in to the time I walked out...one of the best dining experiences of my life. Highlights were Profiteroles au fois de volaille and Mezzalune di patate. Plates were perfectly spaced out. Servers were helpful, friendly and accommodating. Wines were spectacular. Cannot say enough about this place to do it justice. Cannot wait to return. read more

Number 6 / 100 restaurant in Canada. Service was great . They didn't have an English menu but the service explained the menu to us . The scallop sandwich was bit salty but it was still very good. The razor clams were refreshing. Halibut was very tender and buttery. read more

What a fun dinner! Did a YouTube video on it - https://youtu.be/T4c_KTjI3nA Delicious simple, yet complex dishes. All our dishes contained on a few main ingredients, however, each ingredient was treated with so much attention. They take simple concepts and elevate them in their techniques and flavours. What really made the night for us was the team! All the servers were soooo engaging, so friendly and really made us have such a fun night! I'd say the food here was delicious and good, but not blow you away. It's simple and well executed. Still had a great time, and would go on a casual night when in need for some yummy food! read more

One of the bear restaurant experiences I've ever had. And that's saying a lot. We basically did an French-Canadian-Omakase and let our server choose what we got. Good lord, was that an amazing decision. Everything was just fantastic and the service was beyond stellar. The whole service team was magnifique!!! Id come back here again, once all the money from my savings transfers into my checking, but it takes like three days... read more
