One of the greatest places to go see a live performance. The bar is ok, the place looks nice.

Spectacular spot!…read more Very cozy inside, dimly lit with little lights at each table. Stone walls, oil paintings and antique decor. All the plates are different and unique from each other. We ordered the Paloma mocktail which was extra tasty. Starters were the brioche bread that was baked with a crispy top and the herb butter paired very nice. We also got the asparagus and scallops. I was thinking it would be the whole scallop, but it was cut into little pieces and put on top of the asparagus. For the entrees we got the filet and another steak I can't remember the name?? The filet was cooked to absolute perfection, crispy on the inside and so tender and soft on the inside. We got one of each of the sauces as well as the sides. The butter sauce was my favorite. The asparagus came with such an earthy sauce it was a flavor bomb in your mouth. Service is great, only thing is the server forgot about my Diet Coke for 15 minutes but no worries on that. Very cozy date night spot! Loved everything about it.

I had the perfectly crispy and tender duck with a red wine sauce and my husband had the mushroom tagliatelle. Both were spot on. The chocolate coffee mousse to share was a perfect ending. Good thing we were walking. But the intimate setting and the wonderful service was really the best! Must go and MUST make a reservation. It is small.

If you hate garlic, then don't come here. However if you…read moredon't, then come here as often as you can, plus this is the place to go for the best sangria in Montreal, hands down! I love Club Espagnol for a variety of reasons, the sangria is one, the live flamenco shows are another, the gentle family atmosphere, the great terrasse out back and lively crowd all make this place work. Oh yes, then there is the food. Tapas of all sorts: shrimp, calamari, octopus, chorizo sausage, all of it served in garlicky, bread-moppable glory. Spanish ham, cheeses, salads, garlic potatoes and mushrooms, soups, and salads. Mains here include rabbit and many variations of paella. While walking by some tables, the paella plates were positively delicious looking, all the saffron-colored rice, huge shrimp, mussels and chunks of sausage and ham all in full view. Prices are also very reasonable. I love the way families are usually here as well as younger couples, and groups of friends, all sharing the same space. I was here last week with a friend for dinner and some small girls were playing behind us when one of their balloons deflated and flew around before landing right in the middle of our table (not on any food) we both burst out laughing and so did the girls, it's the kind of place where stuff like that happens and it's fine. Try to come here at least once in the summer, it's totally worth it.

After a long flight from San Francisco and a sardine-encased ride on the 747 bus from the airport,…read moreJamie W and I didn't want to venture far from our hotel for dinner, especially during a torrential downpour. Our choices were either a pasta spot frequented by the local student populace or this more traditional Spanish restaurant. Given our aversion to carbs, I think we made the wise decision in hindsight. We had no problem not having a reservation as we were seated quite easily.by a gregarious gentleman that we presumed was the owner. The menu was enticing to us since we were in Spain just a couple of months earlier where we had our share of tapas and paella. We were hungry, so we ordered rather liberally starting with the C$25 Octopus Salad (Salade de Pieuvre) (Photo 6). A hearty portion of octopus was boiled, chopped, and mixed with bell peppers, tomato, sweet onion, romaine, and a bright tasting vinaigrette. It tasted very authentic and provided savory satisfaction. We followed this plate up with the C$34 Trio de Tapas presented on an oblong appetizer plate (Photo 7). First up was a quartet of Cod Croquettes presented crispy golden-fried with a creamy interior. Completing the plate were nicely charred pieces of grilled chorizo and squid. We quickly knocked out those bar-style tapas. Our entree came next, the C$45 Paella Valenciana, a solid rendition with chicken, chorizo, a seafood medley, and saffron rice (Photo 9). While it wasn't quite at the level of the one we just had in Valencia (food snob alert), who knew you can get high quality paella in Montreal?
