    Lamb dumplings

Yesterday we went here and we are already planning to come back, it was that good. The food was delicious, the lamb chops were my personal favorite. The service was also really good, our server always had a smile on his face and was always making sure we were doing good. We were seated inside where the ambiance was really cool with unique lights hanging everywhere lighting up the place with different colors. Overall the experience was very enjoyable.

Absolutely amazing! Everything we tried was incredible!! The cocktails and fresh pita were also great. The mixed grill offered a wonderful selection of meats, dips and some veg. The only downside was the wine. The pours were really small and they didn't have a great selection by the glass. However if you stick to cocktails, you'll be just fine :) If you're in Montreal, definitely add this to your list!

I've been seeing a lot of recommendations for Damas in Montreal, so we made a point to book a reservation. The restaurant was very well decorated and had a certain character to it. It was fairly quiet, the service was prompt and responsive, although our server missed our order for the hummus and bread platter, so missed out on that. The decor and ambiance matched the Syrian cuisine. The overall prices were about $$ to $$$, depending on the entree. Here's what we ordered: Hibiscus Sipper (8/10) - a refreshing cocktail on gin and hibiscus. It was a bit on the tart side but a good drink that I enjoyed. Shish Borek (9/10) - lamb dumplings in a sheep milk yogurt. Expertly made and so delicious. One of the many highlights of our meal. Rack of Lamb (10/10) - an amazing rack of lamb, cooked with flavorful spices with a nice crispy light char that made for a fantastic first bite! The entree came with an assortment of vegetables Batata Harra (10/10) - spicy potatoes with a bit of lemon and coriander. It came out hot and fresh and was just the right amount of crispy on the outside and light and fluffy potato inside. Kunafa (8/10) - a dessert made of sheep milk cheese and pistachios. It was served warm, very rich and sweet. Overall, we were happy we visited and had an amazing meal at Damas!

This restaurant was on our list during our trip to Montreal. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. The warm colors give it a modern vibe, yet very traditional. We started out with the Dumplings facon shish barak - 10/10. This starter was outstanding. Our main dish was the rack of lamb - 10/10. This dish was phenomenal. The flavor of the lamb paired with the eggplant and tahini sauce was amazing. For dessert we had the Kunafa - 8/10. Great dessert, but a bit too sweet for me. Our waiter was good, however he did forget to bring us another appetizer we ordered. By the time we realized our appetizer wasn't coming we told him about it, and he said there was a miscommunication on the order. So, at that point we just told him not to bring it. Overall, I would definitely try this place out. Their food is really great!

For me a Syrian person I can say the food was just okay. My entree which is maybe where I messed up was the filet mignon which was dry and not flavorful Served with a spoonful of hummus. So I ordered more hummus but it was so salty and inedible. My friends lamb shank was better. My Aleppo gin sour cocktail also tasted like a green juice that was a gross pairing with my dinner

Ambiance? Check. Service? You betcha. Food? Of course. Everything from top to bottom was amazing. I don't recall the name of our server but she was fantastic and walked us through the menu several times because it was a little daunting! If I had to be a bit nit-picky, I would say that even with the quality of the entire experience taken into account, the prices could have been a bit better. I think we spent about $60 per person and were still a little bit hungry after all was said and done.

Service: 11/10 Food: 10/10 Price: 8/10 Ambiance: 10/10 I cannot rave enough about this restaurant. My mom is gluten-free, soy-free, dairy-free, 100% olive oil... lots of dietary restrictions, and Damas accommodated for her so kindly! The staff were super kind and welcoming. My mom had come here once before, and the waitress remembered her by name and was incredibly gracious and patient as my mom explained her diet. As for the food, just WOW. The pomegranate salad was incredible, and we got the lamb, chicken, mushrooms... everything was so beautifully plated with vibrant colors and burst of many flavors. Each perfectly cooked. It's amazing how they can turn something as "simple" as mushrooms and chicken to be so incredibly delicious. We celebrated my mom's birthday here, and the ambiance was perfect for it. 10/10 would recommend this place, especially for anyone with allergies.

It's interesting that one of the must-try restaurants in Montreal, Canada is a Syrian restaurant. According to the Michelin guide, lamb is a must here. Funny enough, the three things I ordered were all lamb. Reservations are highly recommended. They have a huge space inside, so I thought they would have plenty of availability. However it filled up quickly even past 8 PM on a weeknight. Service was slow at first. Our server was going around all his tables, but there were other servers who readily filled our water. When I asked if I could have a water pitcher at our table, the server said actually they don't do that and will come refill it for you. He was not wrong! Pro tip: food is very flavorful so don't forget to drink your water! They have a tasting menu $160 with 10-12 dishes. The unwritten secret is that you can ask your server to adjust it however you like. They also offer wine pairings. Hummus shawarma CAD$45 - This was my first taste at Damas. It was delicious. This was a big portion. Of course it's shareable, but it could have been a main dish on its own. They were very generous with the lamb shawarma in the middle, and the hummus was great. The pita is unlimited! Fattet makdous CAD$54 - The menu listed fattet mozat, but they were out of rice of something. It was hard to hear the server over the din of the restaurant. We had eggplant in the dish instead. Pro tip: ask the server for more pita to eat with this delicious dish. Rack of lamb (18 oz) CAD $78 - By the time this dish came out, I was already so full. The lamb was cooked so well. They indeed do lamb well. The salad was refreshing, but the tomatoes were burnt. I would come back again. It's tasty. I would bring a larger group so we can try more items. Credit card/Apple Pay accepted Indoor + outdoor seating No WiFi Bathroom available

This was my treat myself celebratory meal while in Montreal, but my meal at Damas definitely was memorable and it makes it definitely to my list of one of best meals I've ever had and totally worth it. The last time I had Syrian food was 6 years ago so I was so excited to try this place. I made it an hour earlier than my reservation, but they were able to seat me and I appreciated their kindness. The ambiance was great and service was absolutely outstanding. The place gave classy, but service gave such homey vibes. All of the members of the restaurant also have great knowledge of all of the dishes. I started with the Fatooush Salad - and wow - so much flavor! They included pomegranate on the salad and I also loved the dressing - it had a bit of a tangy taste. There was also so much texture and intricate complexity, but not overwhelming and absolutely delicious and fresh. Afterwards, I had the the Lamb Shoulder - which was so delicious! It takes a bit of effort for me to normally be able to eat Lamb, but you know if a restaurant is talented if they can make Lamb well and wow, this was probably one of the most delicious and delicately prepared lamb dishes I had! It was so soft and all of the flavors in the sauce were exploding with the additional garnishing and toppings. I loved it so much and I was so full by the end. In the future, when I have the budget and get the chance to treat myself, I definitely want to try the tasting menu one day. They also are able to accommodate dietary restrictions and make the meal vegan if needed. I included in the reservation that I was celebrating getting through an exam and they treated me with a dessert which was so kind! The staff all here were so kind and genuine and service was absolutely outstanding - I also had some pretty genuine conversations with them. This place really blew my expectations and has set a new high standard for food for me!

Their dip spread was great, the hummus was standard, but the other 3 dips were great takes (Muhammara, baba-like smoked eggplant, beets)

We had an amazing dinner here for a wedding anniversary, the staff was super nice and attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious. We'd never had Syrian before, but are huge fans of the cuisine of its neighbor, Lebanon. The flavors were deliciously unique while still being reminiscent of a cuisine we love so much. The waiter guided us on things to try, and we were happy with every dish we got. The place is lively and very well decorated, and hard to get reservations to, so plan in advance!

THE BIG: Persian influenced Syrian restaurant located in the Outremont neighborhood of Montreal. Super vibey inside and had indoor/outdoor seating. Street parking available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I came here with a bachelor party for a set dinner party and this was one of the meals I was looking forward to. Only heard great things about Damas and it didn't disappoint. We first started off with a couple of drinks before getting into our set menu with amush bush. Then we got some stuffed vine leaves, an assortment of spreads before going into our entrees, which we had shrimp, octopus and grilled kibbeh. All were amazing and delicious. Also shout out to the service, the armada of servers were great at presenting the dishes and giving us a few extra desserts on the backend. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Splitting between 12 guys and a couple of drinks and bottles of wines, this meal was around $250 per person. Great value for the amount of food and drink we got and it was all delicious. Will be back!

I wonderful restaurant with a dark and dramatic setting. The food was outstanding and the service was attentive. I started with the fried cauliflower. The large portion tasted grilled and it was placed on a yogurt and tomato sauce. Very good. For the main course, I had Friki, which is a succulent lamb dish. The lamb was accompanied by a tasty blend of peas, various nuts, raisins, and yogurt. The food was complemented by a server-recommended glass of Chateau Cana Jardin Secret 2016. A nice dry red wine that complemented the lamb. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Damas.

Finally made the Pilgrimage to Damas with friends that knew what to order and it was an epic experience! From the first sip of the neon green gin sour with a touch of spice, the many tastes of various things to dip into to the crispy whole sea bream. The staff was friendly ,knowledgeable and easy to engage with. A well thought out wine list that paired with the many flavors on display. Overall a very unique and fun evening.

Absolutely wonderful food, completely worth the hype. Low key dining ambiance but high quality…read morefood. I would recommend this for groups of four or more so you can try many things -- they're fairly accommodating with tailoring dishes ala carte vs one person entrees and absolutely everything I ate here was delicious. Flavorful and spicy (not necessarily hot) in the best ways, nothing tasted showy or try-hard. The stand outs were the vegan platter (just everything was delicious, and I'm not vegan) and the Chicken Taouck (marinated in a garlic and pomegranate molasses sauce that was just brilliant). The lamb and shrimp skewers were also stand out but a little more basic (not a problem for me, I loved both). I wish I could have tried even more but we were stuffed and satisfied as is. My one complaint, and this could be a bonus for others, was they are fairly pushy on trying to sell you on letting them curate a tasting menu for you. When I asked the waitress if she had any favorite dishes she wouldn't even humor me -- do the fixed menu and you'll find out. Sorry, but that's just not my style! I could see how that might work if you've never had this kinda food and this all feels super foreign, but (and I don't pretend to be an expert in Syrian or Armenian cuisine by any means) it felt a little overtly up-selly to me. In the end we chose our own way and had a delicious meal anyhow. Would absolutely come back next time I'm in town.

I wasn't sure how our evening at Le Petit Alep would develop. Some reviews said "casual," some said…read more"classy." I think it's a little of both, perhaps depending on where in the restaurant you sit. We were seated in the front on the side, which we appreciated on a very humid evening. Rather than order off the menu, our server created a sampler platter for us which included popular offerings for each course. The food got better and better as we proceeded through the courses, our favorite was the chicken skewers. Food and drink total came right in the range quoted by our server. One unexpected thing was the pita for our second course (which included hummus). It was delivered in a plastic bag. So we were unsure if the logo on the bag was where it was made. We didn't use all of ours, so when we were done with the course, they took it away. What do they do with the unused pita? Is it thrown away? Is the bag refilled and given to the next customer? Did we get a bag from earlier customers? Two other observations: We ordered a 500ml carafe of wine. We were allowed to sample it first, and the sample was chilled. The carafe we were served was significantly less chilled, and the insulation inside the container in which the carafe was delivered was not cool to the touch. The wine was still very good, but it would have been even more enjoyable a few degrees cooler. Also, even though cuisine is billed as Syrian, our server mentioned "Armenian" several times (this is not an issue at all). The only thing we didn't like was the humidity. If that is a concern to you, ask to be seated near one of the ceiling fans.

The Long Version: My husband and I were chilling in our hotel when my husband had a hankering for some shawarma. He didn't want to go too far, and I encouraged him to try a new-to-us place, lol. So a quick search led him to Shawarmaz. Shawarmaz is a Canadian company that started 2013 in Montreal. It has several locations but they are all in the Greater Montreal Area. My husband got the beef shawarma in a pita $9.79. They have the option of getting your shawarma in Saj bread or a baguette and those options are more expensive. He got lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, turnips and onions. For his sauces he got hummus, spicy garlic and chipotle. He enjoyed the shawarma. I had a bite so I could review it (I also went with him so I could see the restaurant and take pictures) haha. I thought it was pretty good. They give you a decent amount of protein. And the beef was flavourful and not gristly. I was surprised that the wrap was not too spicy considering the sauces he chose. The decor is fast food restaurant-like. Service was good but it did take a while for the food, although it's likely because there was a pretty long line up. Review #205 (2025)
