Top 5 dining experience of my life! We started with the fattoush, which turned my salad-hating husband into a believer. We followed that up with the batata harra, which were spicy, acidic, crispy little morsels of perfection. We rounded out the meal with the lamb and hummus dish, along with the filet mignon and little pickled peppers. Everything was perfection. Beyond the amazing food, the restaurant itself was beautiful and service was friendly, attentive, but never intrusive or annoying. These guys are doing everything right. I don't know when I'll be back in Montreal, but I can promise I will be right back here when that happens. read more

5:45 pm dinner on the patio, with nicholas as our server. the outdoor patio made for a relaxed early evening setting, while the interior has a much more dramatic, intimate feel, with dark wood, ornate hanging lanterns, patterned tile floors, warm lighting, and rich middle eastern inspired details. it has a distinctly upscale and atmospheric feel that suits the restaurant's refined take on syrian cuisine. service was impeccable throughout the meal. nicholas and his team was attentive, professional, and genuinely on top of everything without being intrusive. the pacing was well handled, and we never felt neglected or rushed. the level of service definitely matched the upscale setting and was one of the stronger parts of the experience. we ordered the meat platter for two, which was $220. the meatballs were easily the standout for me, juicy, flavourful, and probably the best part of the platter. the beef was good, but the prime rib was overcooked and the chicken was quite dry. at $220, i honestly expected more, particularly from a restaurant with this level of reputation and positioning. the uneven cooking was disappointing and kept the platter from being the highlight it should have been. the fattoush salad was much more successful. it was light, fresh, and refreshing, with plenty of herbs and pops of pomegranate. this was actually my favourite dish of the meal. the freshness and acidity worked especially well alongside the richer grilled meats. the grilled octopus was another highlight. it was tender, nicely grilled, and had a good texture without being tough or chewy. overall, the experience was a mix of excellent service, a beautiful setting, and some genuinely memorable dishes. the fattoush, grilled octopus, and meatballs were all standouts, while the prime rib and chicken fell short of expectations. the impeccable service and atmosphere certainly elevated the evening, but given the $220 price tag for the meat platter, i was expecting a more consistently impressive meal. read more

This was my first time having Syrian food but was told this is one of the best restaurants in Montreal. We came here for lunch. I will say that the online reservation system was confusing. It made it look like we could only do a tasting menu but in reality, you can also choose not to. The two main dishes that stood out to me was he chef's mezzas. It comes with 4 small dishes or dips, and they were all amazing in their own ways. The other dish reminded me of a shakshuka. Our waitress was nice but I think she had to large of a section. Absolutely amazing! Everything we tried was incredible!! The cocktails and fresh pita were also great. The mixed grill offered a wonderful selection of meats, dips and some veg. The only downside was the wine. The pours were really small and they didn't have a great selection by the glass. It was fairly quiet, the service was prompt and responsive, although our server missed our order for the hummus and bread platter, so missed out on that. The decor and ambiance matched the Syrian cuisine. The overall prices were about $$ to $$$, depending on the entree. Here's what we ordered: Hibiscus Sipper (8/10) - a refreshing cocktail on gin and hibiscus. It was a bit on the tart side but a good drink that I enjoyed. Shish Borek (9/10) - lamb dumplings in a sheep milk yogurt. Expertly made and so delicious. One of the many highlights of our meal. Rack of Lamb (10/10) - an amazing rack of lamb, cooked with flavorful spices with a nice crispy light char that made for a fantastic first bite! The entree came with an assortment of vegetables Batata Harra (10/10) - spicy potatoes with a bit of lemon and coriander. We started out with the Dumplings facon shish barak - 10/10. This starter was outstanding. Our main dish was the rack of lamb - 10/10. This dish was phenomenal. The flavor of the lamb paired with the eggplant and tahini sauce was amazing. For dessert we had the Kunafa - 8/10. Great dessert, but a bit too sweet for me. My mom is gluten-free, soy-free, dairy-free, 100% olive oil... lots of dietary restrictions, and Damas accommodated for her so kindly! The staff were super kind and welcoming. It's interesting that one of the must-try restaurants in Montreal, Canada is a Syrian restaurant. According to the Michelin guide, lamb is a must here. Funny enough, the three things I ordered were all lamb. Reservations are highly recommended. They have a huge space inside, so I thought they would have plenty of availability. However it filled up quickly even past 8 PM on a weeknight. Service was slow at first. Our server was going around all his tables, but there were other servers who readily filled our water. When I asked if I could have a water pitcher at our table, the server said actually they don't do that and will come refill it for you. He was not wrong! Pro tip: food is very flavorful so don't forget to drink your water! They have a tasting menu $160 with 10-12 dishes. The unwritten secret is that you can ask your server to adjust it however you like. They also offer wine pairings. Hummus shawarma CAD$45 - This was my first taste at Damas. It was delicious. This was a big portion. Of course it's shareable, but it could have been a main dish on its own. They were very generous with the lamb shawarma in the middle, and the hummus was great. The pita is unlimited! Fattet makdous CAD$54 - The menu listed fattet mozat, but they were out of rice of something. It was hard to hear the server over the din of the restaurant. We had eggplant in the dish instead. Pro tip: ask the server for more pita to eat with this delicious dish. Rack of lamb (18 oz) CAD $78 - By the time this dish came out, I was already so full. The lamb was cooked so well. They indeed do lamb well. The salad was refreshing, but the tomatoes were burnt. I would come back again. It's tasty. This was my treat myself celebratory meal while in Montreal, but my meal at Damas definitely was memorable and it makes it definitely to my list of one of best meals I've ever had and totally worth it. The last time I had Syrian food was 6 years ago so I was so excited to try this place. I made it an hour earlier than my reservation, but they were able to seat me and I appreciated their kindness. The ambiance was great and service was absolutely outstanding. The place gave classy, but service gave such homey vibes. All of the members of the restaurant also have great knowledge of all of the dishes. I started with the Fatooush Salad - and wow - so much flavor! They included pomegranate on the salad and I also loved the dressing - it had a bit of a tangy taste. There was also so much texture and intricate complexity, but not overwhelming and absolutely delicious and fresh. Afterwards, I had the the Lamb Shoulder - which was so delicious! It takes a bit of effort for me to normally be able to eat Lamb, but you know if a restaurant is talented if they can make Lamb well and wow, this was probably one of the most delicious and delicately prepared lamb dishes I had! It was so soft and all of the flavors in the sauce were exploding with the additional garnishing and toppings. I loved it so much and I was so full by the end. In the future, when I have the budget and get the chance to treat myself, I definitely want to try the tasting menu one day. They also are able to accommodate dietary restrictions and make the meal vegan if needed. I included in the reservation that I was celebrating getting through an exam and they treated me with a dessert which was so kind! The large portion tasted grilled and it was placed on a yogurt and tomato sauce. Very good. For the main course, I had Friki, which is a succulent lamb dish. Upon arrival to the beautifully appointed, low-lit Damas, we decided on the $160pp tasting menu to "explore 10-12 shared dishes reflecting chef's modern interpretation of seasonal ingredients and regional Syrian specialties." Our one disappointment was that said tasting menu did not include hummus and grilled Saj bread. We asked to add the latter, which was brought with our meat course (the lamb was my favorite!), but did not get to try the hummus. If we return, we'll go à la carte, so we definitely get some more of our favorites. That said, dinner was delicious. Service was attentive. The variety of lamps and deep colors were special. Damas is a famed Montreal restaurant that is hyped to be the best Syrian spot in town. The warm decor, beautiful lights, and upscale nature really makes this a place for special occasions. My friend was able to book us a table for a late night meal about a month in advance. They absolutely get booked up so if you want a table, be sure to plan ahead and make that reservation. Menu items are meant to be shared family style. As a vegan, it was admittedly hard for me to really justify ordering anything sharable that others would want given how pricy everything is on the menu. The two mezzes we had including the Fattoush Salad and their Hummus were already $50 for those alone, so you can imagine how high everything else would have been added up. I enjoyed the salad and its use of fresh ingredients, along with the hummus (which was by no means the best, but a solid hummus nonetheless). I really liked the circular pita that they provided with the hummus as it made for a great dipping mechanism for all of us. I don't think it's worth the price/value for someone that is plant based, despite them having options like grilled vegetables and what appeared to be a heartier legume dish. I think the price for these dishes is what get me so I can't in good faith absolutely recommend it unless you are someone that consumes animal products. With that said, the experience was great and I am very grateful to have even been a part of a meal with great company. read more

We did the tasting menu that consisted of 12 dishes. You get A LOT of food. Starting off, the meal is light with stuffed olives, a salad, and some bite sized dishes. But then it progressively gets heavier, ending with 4 meat dishes. The whole experience is also about 2 hours. Our favorites were the olives, sea bass, lamb chops, and fried shrimp. We didn't love the lamb tartare that much because the texture was too soft. Service was very nice once we were seated. Water was refilled consistently and each dish was explained to us when served. This restaurant is beautiful. Not only is it ornate and cozy in setting, but the property itself is huge, making the restaurant nicely spaced out and comfortable. We were seated near the bar in high top chairs, and it was so neat watching the bartenders work so artistically on drinks. Damas is an absolute dream: delectable food that manages to amplify authentic flavors with brilliant innovations. For me, the absolute standout was the molokhia with confit duck. The molokhia--a stew of mallow leaves with garlic, onion, and cilantro--was fragrant, and its hearty flavors were complemented by the most tender, luxurious piece of duck I've ever eaten. We also loved the salty chew of the grilled halloumi and the tangy fragrance of the yelanji. My friends also gobbled up the beet mutabbal and the kibbeh appetizer. The big surprise came when we ordered pistachio ice cream for dessert, but what arrived was a beautiful slab of mastic ice cream with fresh pistachio pressed all around it, topped with halva cotton candy. The most unforgettable anniversary dinner experience E V E R. After looking up some romantic dinner spots while we came to Montreal for our anniversary, I came across Damas multiple times. Syrian food? Yes, SYR! Here was the biggest challenge: actually getting IN for a reservation. They book SOOO far in advance but (spoiler alert) TOOOOTALLY worth it. I was able to find reservations only 2 weeks before for a late night 9pm dinner which worked PERFECT. You can book them on Resy and it's so fast an easy. I decided to surprise my hubby for this one to make it extra special. There's street parking available and at night, you can't really tell what you're about to walk in to. Now.. when you DO walk in, you're instantly transported and just blown away at this gorgeous restaurant and modern/Syrian twist. We really wanted to order from their tasting menu but didn't think this was possible since online, they don't show the vegetarian one only the pescatarian option. Thanks to our amazing waiter, he immediately recommended it to us even though it wasn't listed and made it possible. This itself, took our experience to the next level and we just weren't even ready for what we were about to experience: a culinary palette explosion to never forget. From halloumi to falafel, moujaddara to beet hummus, they were able to elevate classics to a whole other level. Every single bite, every single dish just got better and better. Our extensive vegetarian tasting course was infinitely worth it from start to finish. We spent about 2 hours eating and despite the restaurant closing, there was zero rush in getting our. The servers were extremely amazing and truly made the whole dining experience even better with their descriptions, suggestions and attention to detail. Drinks: abricot safranné and bourbon griottes were just what we needed. This chic and enchanted, warm and colorful, lively restaurant was everything we could've wanted and more for our 9th year anniversary.
