KazaMaza serves up some great Middle Eastern food. The ingredients here are really fresh. I tried the tabule, Baba ghanoush and the kefta with tahini. The tabule was really refreshing with nice acidity and was a very generous portion. The baba ghanoush had a great smokey flavor to it. The keftas were really tender, seasoned perfectly, not gamey at all, and paired quite well with the tabule. The kefta dishes come with a side of fragrant rice. The meal came with some complimentary pita bread. I wish these were toasted / hot however. The vibe inside is casual, relaxed, and a bit loud. The service was fast and friendly. This is a 5 star review. Wonderful Syrian restaurant in the Mile-End which was on my list for so long and finally made it several times over the last 6 months. Everything is fresh, flavourful and well presented. We've basically order the classics: Fattoush, Hummus, Babaghanoush, kibbeh, mouhammara, kefta, lamb fatteh. It's an oasis of flavours to be shared either for 2 or in a group. I am huge fan of Damas but the beauty of this place is convenience of not having to reserve way ahead and the price point which is very affordable. This has got to be my go to spot for Lebanese dinner. There portions are excellent and great to share with friends. The service is always on point and the ambiance is great. I recommend making reservations on the weekend as they are very busy and have limited amount of space inside their restaurant. Prices vary anywhere between 20-40$ per plate . The service was a bit slow, but I can understand given the place was PACKED, with tables turning in minutes. It's pretty understated, so maybe not the spot if you're looking to wow a first date or charm a client- unless they're foodies. The vibe leaves were a perfect started- dense and acidic, going nicely with a light, crisp fattoush. I loved the mousaqa'a, so bright, cool, and savoury. The lamb chops were killer in terms of taste, but a little fatty. But also I'd order them again, so... Best bite goes to the garlic shrimp. Tried this place out and it was better than I thought! Adam and I didn't go for a full meal, we only wanted a consistent snack and that's exactly what we got here. We got some pita bread (they were out of naan), some hummus kawarma, labne, and mini potatoes. We got so much more than expected, the quantities are very generous. Everything was very good. Filling and tasty, I really enjoyed the hummus kawarma. It was the first time I tried that kind of hummus. The pita bread was very normal though so try to order the naan bread if you're looking to get some sauces and share. The potatoes were also pretty normal, not too seasoned so perfect to pair with the sauces but you get A LOT. Enough for 5 people honestly. They are also cut pretty thick. Service was quick (but we were the only people there) and seating is comfortable. It's also a medium sized restaurant. Overall really great. Will go back for dinner. read more

Found this spot on Yelp! We went there on a busy day without reservations. They were kind enough to accommodate us after a short wait at the bar. The servers are friendly and helpful. We ended up ordering the Fattet Dajaj which is Pulled chicken and rice. And three dips to share with Pita Bread. The taste of the food and quality of ingredients is excellent. This was the first restaurant I tried on my first trip to Montreal. The staff members were so helpful and what they suggested was absolute divine. We were the first couple in the restaurant so we got a choice of seats. We were given warm pita bread and olives immediately which was what we needed on the very cold day we arrived in Montreal. We asked our waiter what he suggested since we'd just arrived and was in search for something warm and filling. Our waiter suggested we try a dish called Fattet Mawzat. The Fattet Mawzat is a warm dish containing lamb, eggplant, pine nuts, tomato sauce, and mind blowing spices. I don't know what it is but I love pine nuts in my food. They are just so flavorful. We tried the Labneh and the grilled chicken.The grilled chicken was very juicy and grilled. The setting was very romantic (low lights and candles). It was the perfect way to welcome us to Montreal. I expected to eat only French cuisine while on my mini vacation but I would have never thought my first meal in this French city would be Middle Eastern and I loved every bite. Oh and we also tried some amazing beer named Boréale Rousse. Oh my goodness. This beer was red (yes I said the beer was red -- and no it's not like when we drink green beer for St. Patty's Day). This beer was mind blowing because of the caramel taste! This beer actually paired well with the warm dishes. I will also add that the food was not spicy. Figuring out what you enjoy from their menu is key. I very much enjoy their Fattet Makdous. The regular version is delicious and the vegetarian version while less tasty is still quite enjoyable. I recommend both! Bonus points before this stays good even if delivered. The fattouche salad is good, but I've had better. The beetroot moutabal, mouhammara and kefta mechoui weren't great imo. Hi i was in Montreal for Presidents' Day Weekend with my son his wife and my mother and we decided to go try Kazamaza based on all the great reviews. We walked in on Saturday and there were no reservations available so we left and booked reservations for the following day . The following day we go in anticipating this wonderful experience first it takes them 20 min to seat us . We order most of the salads and appetizers and they were delicious from the tabouli to the hummus you the kibbe and the fattoush . So we decided to order the kofta with no sauce and the lamb chops that ate sold individually we ordered 10 and the shrimp with got exceptional reviews. It took a bit of time but we were patiently waiting in anticipation of a delicious ending to our meal . Well what we got to our shock and horror was a bowl of charred ground beef that was topped with tomato and some other things to cover it , the meat was so charred and dry , it was falling apart like rubble at the touch. Even worse was the 2 plates of lamb chops that were completely charred to a crisp ,totally un edible. When we called them over they took back the kofta and offered to remake we refused and they take that off the bill but totally refuse to remove the burned lamb chops that were not eaten . They made us pay and they were individually charged at $7 a piece . Very Rude never experienced anything like this and we are from New York ! read more

Cozy restaurant, friendly service, and good taste as well. Me and my friend shared both our dishes (they gave plates to share). We had lamb shanks with rice and yoghurt (~$22) and kofta with sour cherry sauce (~20). The portions were huge! We were more than done midway. I loved the kofta, beautiful flavours in the cherry sauce and the meat was tendered to perfection. The kofta was served with smoked wheat pita which has the texture of crispy nachos, really compliments the meal. The dish also comes with a side of rice. The lamb shanks was also good but the yoghurt was overwhelming for me and after couple of bites, I didn't feel like having more. If you're not big about the taste of Greek yoghurt, or sour yoghurt or just milk in genera, I'd strongly advice against choosing this dish. I liked the flavour of anar (pomegranate) in the dish and wish there was more of that. We also ordered desert (halwa) and I didn't like it that much. I just want to say though that I didn't like it simply because of my personal taste. The dessert was extremely sweet and chewy, glazed with more gooey sweet syrup. I didn't finish it because the entire concept of this dessert was a bit off for me. You might like it if you like the taste and texture of bubble gum. I'm giving the place 3 stars because I feel this is a promising place but my ordering might not have worked in my favour but I am definitely coming back here to give this restaurant another shot! read more

A group of us have been wanting to try this Syrian/Lebanese resto for some time so we finally made our reservations using OpenTable. We had no issues getting our table at the right time and the entire process was painless. Love having my reservations being respected! This is a small establishment of about 50 interior seats and can get quite loud when it starts to fill out. They do have a terrace if you're into that kind of thing as well. Sitting down we were served the traditional plate of fresh pita as well as olive/peppers. Menu is somewhat limited but they stick to their specialties and I totally respect that! We shared a bottle of champagne to celebrate an event and decided to order 5-6 hot/cold mezze dishes along with 2 of their lamb kebbe main meals. I would have liked a bigger main meal to share, perhaps with filet mignon. The fattouch salad was honestly one of the BEST fattouch salads I've EVER eaten... and I've eaten my fair share of these!! It had the acidity I crave and the pomegranate seeds made it bitter sweet... it was perfect. I definitely went for seconds and maaaaaybe even thirds and found myself ready to fight the other people at my table for more! "Fite me" Another item I really liked was the Akkawi (cheese) rolls. They were perfect! Crunchy on the outside and some and flavorful on the inside. The Kibbe was just OK. They seemed harder (perhaps overcooked). Taste just wasn't there. Shame. The hummus was great, lots of flavor and went sooooo nicely with the smooth fresh pitas. Yummy time! The side potatoes were quite disappointing. Completely lacked flavor and some slices were a undercooked. Needed salt. Not worth the calories. Out of the 2 main meals we collectively preferred the Kabab Bil Karaz over the Mechoui. The Kabab Bil Karaz is simmered in a delicious sweet cherry sauce garnished with pine nuts and it really brought out the meat's flavors. The mechoui plate paled in comparison. For dessert I had their atayef (ricotta based crepe in a rose water honey) and it was just OK. They come in a pair and I'd rather have had just the one instead of two tiny bites. The atayef dessert was dry and could have definitely used more rose water honey. The coffee was Turkish style. Made to be shared in pairs. Waited for an hour for our order to brought out(party of 6); 1 persons dish brought out 20mins prior to anyone elses; once everyone elses food was brought I was told my Salmon was forgotten and would talk another 10mins; server offered any appetizer free of charge. A few minutes later, the manager apparently returned and we were seated. It took nearly 30 minutes for our two entrees to arrive. I was seriously going to leave. As predicted, our efforts to flag down the staff to pay the bill were ignored. At one point, she literally was right behind me and I helped out my credit card and said very audibly "excuse me." She ran away as I kept calling her. Finally, we persuaded a man to take care of our bill even though he kept saying it was not his table. If they were short in the kitchen, then they should have explained that. If not, they were a disorganized wreck. I will never understand why some people who run service businesses fail to communicate. It only makes things worse by being quiet than explaining and winning my sympathy. Yesterday my cousins, husband and i took one of our cousins visiting from Germany out. We asked her what she wanted to eat and to which she replied Lebanese/middle eastern. So much depth of flavours! My husband got the octopus. Braised and grilled to perfection! My cousin from Germany had the lamb. The meat fell right of the bone! The kibbé was very flavourful and the chicken really moist and tender! They have a small wine list and are not very well equipped for specialty cocktails. You can maybe have a gin and tonic but that's about it. I chose to go with a private importer a was really happy with my choice. Good service. Great ambiance. Delicious food! Very reasonably priced! We reserved a table for two 4 days in advance. Arrived at a rather large, empty restaurant but for two other diners. We asked to be seated at a random table at the side of the room but were advised that all such 4 person tables were reserved for 4's. The greeter said our table was reserved for us in the middle of the room. We were then seated at a wobbly table with passages on both sides so narrow that people were brushing us as they went by. Though they later asked us if we wanted to move, we didn't feel like shuffling again. They then blamed us for not moving! We then watched other parties of two enter and take up any tables they seemed to want and even switch from place to place at will. We left after appetizers with the mood of our night spoiled. This is a restaurant I have frequented several times over the years but that ends tonight. While the food is consistently good, I had a very unsettling and humiliating experience with my young, male server: I had phoned in a reservation for 6:30 pm and was seated with my cousin on time. At 8:17, at the end of our mains, we were asked if we would like coffee and dessert to which we ordered. It arrived at 8:22. At 8:29 our server indicated we needed to leave as the table was reserved for 8:30 for another customer. In our phone reservation and in my text confirmation no "seating time limit" was indicated (although I am not new to nor against this custom, but had no idea it was the custom here). We told the waiter this but we said okay. My cousin tried to hurry along as we waited what we anticipated would be our bill to pay but it did not come. At 8:38 he returned and asked us to leave abruptly and we said that yes, we knew but we're waiting for him to bring us our bill and he said in a rude manner,"Well you never asked for it!" Shocked, I called him over to speak more quietly to us as people started to look and turn to our table due to his demeanour. I told him that he didn't need to talk to me like this and that he only informed us almost immediately after offering and bringing our dessert which we had no time then to consume and had to leave full plates and cup. (Had we known we would not have ordered more food.) He then said, "I won't let you talk to me that way you can go to the cash and pay." I said okay but would like to speak to his manager. I paid my bill at the cash while waiting quietly but then the waiter engaged me to provoke more conversation about the policy, which I said I had no difficulty with but was not happy about how he spoke to us but he still argued so I asked him to stop speaking so as not to "engage in a confrontation" as I was already embarrassed with everyone turning to us. He obliged and let me pay. My cousin then started to pay his bill and the server began the same confrontation with him so I said, "please stop, I said I would wait for the manager." He then turned to me and said, "be quiet I'm not speaking to you," which at this point I felt my face flush and thought I'd faint and I responded in shock, "your mother didn't raise you right speaking to customers like this," and of course he lost his sh--. I can concede my response was rude but it was a reaction to shocking behaviour after settling a $110 bill and was well within context of a young man in about mid 20's addressing a customer in her 60's. Perhaps age is not the issue but customer relations is. I have young adult children and they would not have spoken to any senior in that manner in any context, but particularly not on a place of work! We waited 15 minutes for the manager after the server of course briefed him. The manager's first words were about my "bad raising" comment to which I admitted but said there was context that he needed to allow me to speak to. He also went in about the seating policy. I told him I was fine with it although was never told (showed him my confirmations where there was no mention and he confirmed that I was right and apologized for this.) He quickly cut me off saying the restaurant was busy and he even had to help out in the kitchen. I told him while I understood the policy, that did not warrant the server's behaviour and that there were other options. He could have let us know when offering dessert that we would have had 5 minutes to consume. He could have offered seats (which were empty at the bar area) to finish our coffee and dessert as obviously it was his error to offer something we couldn't possibly consume. He could have brought us our bill. But most importantly, he could have apologized. And even more importantly, while his mother may have not been at fault for his behaviour (sorry mom of server), the restaurant management was responsible. They offered no resolution and/and or restitution for our experience, only, "we have your number I'll call you but we're busy now". Shall I hold my breath?? Update: A few days later the restaurant owner called me to apologize. He spoke for 15 minutes straight without taking a breath to explain the challenges of the hospitality industry in general and those he is facing with getting good servers. Apparently the same server engaged in another incident with a customer on the same evening I was there after I left. This server will be leaving to pursue his career interests shortly but the owner is so desperate for staff he wouldn't fire him, but did speak to him. He was very understanding and I managed to get in a few comments. I was impressed that he took the time to call me, does say a lot about his commitment to customer service. Since I no longer live in Montreal, not sure I'd go back on one of my short visits, I prefer not to roll the dice. However, I would not discourage a local to go, the food is great. read more

Fantastic food, fantastic service. A friend of mine (from out of town) and I arrived right when they opened on a Saturday and pretty much had the place to ourselves. This meant that the staff was able to chat more and suggest and recommend different foods to us - which was great! We ended up trying things we would have originally overlooked! Also, their lamb shank portions are quite small. My friends who ordered the dish were still hungry. I came here two years ago with the fam and it has been *The* restaurant that's left us salivating for more. This time, we came for the brunch offered on weekends. Brunch comes with pita, pickles, coffee/juice, and a different menu- although normal menu is available too. The standout dishes were the baba ghanoush and fattouch salad. The bg came garnished with pomegranate seeds and parsley- it was vibrant and chunky. The roasted eggplant flavor beamed through in each bite. The fattouch salad was perfectly dressed. I particularly liked the scallions and thinly sliced radishes in the mix. We ordered two lamb dishes- my mom can't not have lamb when it is available- the brunch kawarma and one of the specialty keftas, the grenadine one. The kawarma was a ground lamb baked under eggs. The kefta was a little bit tougher than I remember it being the last time. Biggest complaint is that the entrees don't come with rice so we ordered it separately. Most everything was very very bland and expensive for what it was. Baba Ghannouj was the best thing we had, nice and smokey. The fattouche salad was sweet and forgettable. The kefta mechoui had absolutely no flavour,, none, zero!! We also had the fattet makanek this was a bit better. Minced lamb in a rich tomato sauce with tahini and crispy pita chips. The textures were great but again there was no flavours. All these dishes are usually prepared with exotic middle eastern spices, creating yummy and flavourful foods.....NOT HERE. Can I do a 3.5? The first few times I went I'd have given it a 4. Everything tasted good, it just felt a little overpriced for the quantity served. Lamb Kefte and braised lamb were delicious - as were the salads and all the dips in the apps. The most recent time there was so much oil in the dishes - there much have been half an inch of oil in the round ramekin at the end - that it did not feel good. Only if someone told me this had changed, would I return. Actually - that's not true. I'd probably give it another shot as it really was great the first few times. I would just order carefully or ask about the oil content! That's my piece of advice to you too if you go! read more

Writing this review in 2019! Went to Kazamaza for the second time for a birthday celebration expecting the same high quality food and experience, and unfortunately was extremely disappointed! This restaurant was amazing when I visited it in 2015, i gave them a glowing review on yelp then but unfortunately it went downhill since then! Upon arrival we were served the traditional olives and pita bread...we were a party of 5 and were served exactly 5 olives...really? Are olives that expensive these days? We ordered 4 meze plates...hummus, mouhammara, vine leaves and baba ghanouj...the only decent one was the mouhammara, the rest tasted like they just came out of a can! For the main dish I ordered the mowzat frikih with yoghurt...the meat was ok but was burned at the bottom and the tiny side yoghurt was barely enough for the dish! No one enjoyed the tiny portions! Never coming back to this restaurant and don't recommend it all! There's lots of great middle eastern restos in Montreal, spend your money elsewhere! read more
