I enjoyed a delightful lunch at SeaSalt in Montreal recently. Being right on the main street that runs along the harbor is a fantastic location and I enjoyed their outdoor dining. My seafood roll was, as expected, a combination of lobster and shrimp, but it was delicious, and the fries were very good. My beer could have been colder, but still tasted great with my lunch. We are from out of town and we will make a whole trip to Montreal just to return to this restaurant. Being from the US, my husband and I feel like restaurant staff has declined majorly in the last 5 years or so. So, having normal, kind, attentive, personable, and knowledgeable staff felt like we were at a 10-star restaurant nowadays. The raw oysters were incredible and most importantly, shucked perfectly. We decided to split a dozen dozen oysters so 144 total. We'd like to give a big shout-out to Amanda, Ismail, and Jewel for perfect service, and perfect shucking of 144 by Jewel! Amazing seafood and great customer service, plus a view of the riverfront. As the staff worked on clearing a table for our group of 4, we watched from a distance as an additional worker join the others, get underneath the table, and pick up food that had fallen. That kind of pride left a big first impression. We found later that the guy was Rob who is part owner, part chef, and part manager. Rob came by and explained the menu like he had written it, which he had, then take our order. Although the dish titles are ordinary, the menu is very creative as many of the ingredients and preparation provides a twist to the norm. I ordered the seafood roll which was absolutely delicious. After been seated wondered why we were here.... The host honestly was bit dismissive, I wasn't sure where the entrance was and as he came up, said wait and showed me the part of the sign "please wait to be seated", that should been a sign. Food was just ok, overpriced and edible. Calamari was excellent but the amount they give you for the price they charge is not worth it. All other joints would have given four times what they served for what they were charging. Salad was edible and that's all I can say. The host was happier after we paid and included a tip. I don't know why Canada follows USA with tipping options, since they are part of the commonwealth, there should be no tipping!! read more

Rob literally rescued our party of 4 last night; we were hungry from a long day of sightseeing and had walked over a mile to the Old Port to find one restaurant after another unsuitable for our family. Rob, and the gracious hosts at Carma Hospitality found us and gave us a great dinner at Sea Salt which brought our visits to the Greek Islands back to us with a modern touch. Service and food were top notch; just a stone's throw from the water and the sights of the port. We couldn't have been happier! The best thing about this place was the service as our server was cheerful and enthusiastic with a fantastic memory for remembering orders as we were a large group of twelve. The worst was we all felt ripped off when the bill came and the tip options on the credit card machine were 18%, 25% and 30%. I mean 18% as a minimum seemed excessive. Food was overpriced and portion sizes small which combined with average cooking at best meant afterwards we all said not again. The calamari was tough and chewy and I think getting so many orders out at once meant the food had gone dry. Great location near the Port. We wandered in and were able to get a table inside. I love seafood and theirs is really good. We had Salmon Tartare, Shrimp tacos and Po Boy. And Margaritas. Music selection is peppy and ambience nice. They also have a big patio which was full. If you are going for a night out in Old Montreal, go here. This spot is located in the old port in a great area! The patio is super cute with lots of seating and a nice big umbrella for some great shade when it's super hot. I wasn't sure it this restaurant was going to be good since they hardly had any reviews but I'm glad we did! It was very busy so the service was extremely slow but understandable. Probably one of the best spot for a patio in town. Well placed and spacious patio in the heart of old port right by the water. Even with the COVID distancing restrictions, it's large enough that it can accommodate many tables. That being said, expect premium prices. My favourite cocktail was the sea breeze sangria (Prosecco, grapefruit vodka, grapefruit juice, Quattro, fresh fruit, rosé wine) but their aperol was good too. For food, we had the seafood salad (portions for the mains here tend to be on the smaller side but for this salad, it was quite generous, to my surprise). The salad was very fresh and had lots of seafood. We also had the salmon tartare that was pretty good, and the fried calamari, Po boy sandwich and lobster roll with a side of fries. The sandwich and lobster roll doesn't come with any sides so you have to pay extra to order your sides. Our server was so lovely though they were quite understaffed and it seemed that she was tending almost the entire terrasse during peak dinner hour..therefore service was quite slow. This is understandable, though, as many restaurants in Montreal are suffering from lack of staff everywhere. (In terms of price, we were two people and had 3 appetizers, 2 sandwiches, one order of fries, 5 cocktails and the bill was about $230 before tip. Came here with my brother and his fam and my nephew got a splinter 30 seconds into sitting down and that started the end of days. Food came out really fast, the wait staff were great. I can't eat most shellfish but they were great about it. The wife had some oysters which she really enjoyed and my brother had mussels which he also said were great. What a cool patio! The location is fantastic, the outdoor seating is spacious (read socially distant), and the house music sets a great vibe. I was thinking the vibe was more South Beach Miami than Montreal which makes a dinner out feel more like a staycation! We arrived around 6:30 on a Monday night and were seated immediately. The timing was perfect because the place was full by 7:00. They have a nice looking bar inside as a waiting area but I'm sure we would have passed had we not arrived on time to grab a table, so I would say get there early. The menu had a nice selection of apps so we shared three in lieu of ordering mains. The grilled octopus was the best of the three, perfectly cooked and served atop a bed of couscous. The salmon tartare was very good and served with some super salty chips. Finally, the fried calamari was battered in a cornmeal coating and served with a remoulade. Service was excellent, highlighted by never empty wine glasses and fast kitchen service. Total tab was $165 with tax and tip, about right given my wine selection. One final note: Seasalt requires masks when being seated and leaving but they had a box of disposables available when we arrived. read more

Great location for people watching, but the food is pricey and for a place named "seasalt" they sure don't like to put any of it on the food. The salmon we ordered was cooked well, but it was cooked well about 20 minutes before we got it. The salmon was warm, but completely dried out and the vegetables underneath it were cold, signs that it had spent a while sitting under a heat lamp while the rest of the food was being prepared. The drinks were ok, nothing spectacular or uniquely interesting. Another "meh" in a long line of "just ok" places along the waterfront. Walk the extra 2-3 minutes and visit Venice or Tommys. read more

The food was pretty good, but major issue how management handled a FOOD SAFETY complaint. There was a hair in our food, a very thin blond hair actually wrapped around one of the octopus tentacles on my son's entree. We were pretty grossed out, but we didn't make a fuss, we discreetly called our server over and showed her. We were given a replacement meal without asking BUT when we saw the bill, surprised that we were expected to pay full price for that replacement meal. (note: not expecting a discount on everything, just that one meal). We called the manager over, but she refused to budge. I used to work in food service and if there was an issue like this we always would comp that meal and sometimes even offer a free drink or dessert to the table by way of apology. I was very conflicted in writing this review. I will start with the positives - the food was excellent with a gorgeous presentation (I had the seafood salad, and my husband had the fried calamari). As well, our server Steph gave such friendly and attentive customer service. I do hope that upper level management reads this review because Steph deserves accolades because she was more than a wonderful server. My problem is with the gentlemen who had a presence that suggested that he was perhaps the manager. He had quite a dismissive tone and aire about him that seemed directed only towards my husband and myself, as I noticed him engaging jovially with other customers. He was inflexible with our request for a table in the shade during the city's heatwave on a 90*F day-- and mind you, the restaurant was far from full and had 8 empty tables for four on the patio. So, there was no good reason to not accommodate our table request except for his inflexibility. I'll make dishonorable mention of the gentleman behind the outdoor bar who clearly saw me standing for several minutes waiting request a table without even acknowledging my presence. He almost seemed to be avoiding eye contact with me. I can only wonder why. I had to ask him if I was standing in the right place for the host/hostess. This was our very first eating experience in Montreal. Not a great start at all. But, our great hostess Steph and some wonderful conversations with other patrons turned that around. And, we continued to have good and welcoming experiences at other establishments after this incident. read more

EXTREMELY TERRIBLE. My mother warned me about this place as she got FOOD POISONING from them last summer. Wow I should have listened to her. Upon arrival we ordered drinks which took EXTREMELY long to arrive and tasted bad. We got some appetizers before the main dish which we could not even enjoy since it was so cold outside and they REFUSED to turn heaters on or move us inside. Dogs peeing and shitting all over the terrasse and chairs too my food was unenjoyable as I was smelling pee and poo. PATHETIC. Just when we thought it couldn't get worse, it became terrible beyond belief. Took OVER AN HOUR for main dishes to arrive and they were TERRIBLE !! RISOTTO WAS JUST RICE STEAK OVER COOKED.
