Please eat here! Foods and service were AMAZING. It sprinkled outside when we were dining here and the restaurant felt so romantic with the view the street. This place had such a cozy and relaxing vibe. Highly recommend!

Amazing environment at Rue-Saint Paul St! Nice restaurant in a popular tourist destination. Seafood rice is the best dish we think - delicious! Local beer is refreshing. Staffs are super friendly and welcoming.

Enjoyed traditional Portuguese cuisine in Montreal! Had the pleasure of meeting the owners! They were so gracious! They spoke to us in Portuguese! Family owned restaurant! Celebrating 51 years in 2023! Highly recommend! Thank you for a lovely dining experience on our last night in Montreal!

Old world charm classic ambience. Food and service were both exceptional. Highlights of the night: seafood rice / veal Scaloppini with Madeira wine and mushrooms. They were among the best I ever had. Grilled octopus & mussels were also delicious. The poached Pear dessert in Porto & red wine was surprisingly sweet and yummy. Our friendly host even gave us a little traditional Portuguese egg tard dessert free to try. A memorable 5 star dinner for us . Restaurant is located in a 5 star location as well, a short walk after dinner made the night even enjoyable. Would highly recommend for seafood lovers.

This place is fabulous! I loved everything about it other than an old gentleman part of the servers was a bit snubby. The other older gentleman was just fine and the rest. I can certainly look past that as my wife and I came there to try Portuguese fair. We were not disappointed and the variety of food we had are all superb. We ended up having a few to go. The amount of each entrée can actually be shared by 2-3 easily. The ambiance inside is so nice and the outside just brings you back as if you're really in Europe. This is our first time in Montréal and we love every bit of it. Love knowing that they have a Portuguese community out here as we so love their food. Visit this restaurant and make sure not in rush hour and just enjoy the place, food and wine.

Had dinner here on my last night in Montreal. It was in October and most places were not crowded as it was not a high season. Plus it was a weeknight. The place is nightly decorated, dimmed lighting. Waitstaff were friendly. Being a slow night, I think only 2 were on that night. I had the Portuguese green soup and the Green Mediterranean Porgy (which was deboned table side). It came with a side of rice and creamed spinach. The fish was really good. My friend had the Trout/Salmon on a bed of spinach (I think it was a special) and she loved it. The spinach were very well made in addition. We did not get dessert but we had the house wine and that was good.

Trio of tapas (from left): scallops and chorizo, duck in fig sauce, octopus with grilled peppers and olives.

We had a lovely meal and experience at Solmar, but for our introduction to the restaurant. To explain: Solmar (a fish-centric Portuguese menu) shares space with La Sauvagine (a meat-centric French menu). But due to Covid, the two restaurants joined to share the first floor space, making for a slightly confused entrance that was worsened by where we were seated, in the back corner next to the one waiter kiosk (nobody puts baby in the corner!). In reality we could have raised a stink and waited longer for one of the sought-after outdoor seats, but we did find salvation with our waiter and sommelier Antony. After a brief wait (being in the corner we were overlooked despite every waiter being within arms distance entering their orders), we were tended to with a smile, entered our order and asked about the all-Portuguese wine menu. This is when the experienced Antony entered the scene, and we were well looked after (and even moved seats to a nicer location shortly thereafter). Antony recommended a lovely aged white with a moderate price point that paired excellently with our tapas-style seafood (not pictured is our entree of shredded cod with potatoes, an interesting dish). So seated in a livelier locale of the restaurant, happy with our wine and food recommendations, we doubled down and ordered a red and a final dish from La Sauvagine to pair it with. And of course dessert followed! This is a potential 5 star place if they can work out a few kinks.

We had a great dinner here. It is a slow pace with a lot of detail. Presentation is wonderful. Food quality was exceptional. Allow an hour and a half to dine here. Should we return to Montréal, we will certainly return to Solmar.

We didn't eat here but I would give 0 stars because this place was just rude. First they tried to get us in and then once they found out that there was 4 of us the guy in front made a noise and then told us that they didn't have any tables. There were lots of empty tables so we said how about the front and they said they don't serve food in the front just drinks. Later, we passed by some people eating in the front.

Highly recommend this place! This is a hidden gem in old Montreal! Service was extraordinary - the food tasted amaazzzzingg! We tried the mussels in tomato, wine and pepper and grilled sardines. One of the best mussels I have ever had - the sauce was out of the world. Sardines were perfectly grilled.

Honestly, the only reason it's not a 5-star is because the line is always insane and it gets super crowded inside, but the food low-key makes up for it. Def a must-try in Montreal!

Great fries, with chorizo + bits of chicken, good amount of cheese curds and finally smothered w/gravy. I thought the gravy might be an afterthought/not interesting- but no, it was delicious. You walk in the door and all you smell is chicken grilling+ chargrilled goodness. They offer a1/2chicken w/salad+ fries. Since we were ordering the poutine we didn't want those extra sides; we just ordered whole chicken. They'll ask, spicy or not? We got 'spicy' -basically the orange sauce in pics. It's not at all 'spicy hot' -but tastes garlicky, rich and delicious. Great choice. Chicken is Portuguese style; with a chargrilled taste, very juicy and well seasoned. Talked to several people who were near us eating about how great the food was, and found out that like us, several of them were out of towners who'd asked a local "where to eat" in town. Every single person was raving about how delicious it all was. This place is the Bomb! Absolutely a 'Do Not miss' in Montreal. The small poutine we ordered was huge! And the large sized poutine others bought was size of a ham on the large plate. Even with 2 hungry people and my Hubbie is a big dude, we brought almost 1/2 of our food home to finish the next day. Not bad for $34+ tax. PS One pic is from neighboring table's plate- the guy said "Please do take a picture. What a find! I can't believe this place".

Thank god I found it because one large chicken + chorizo poutine can feed my hungry wife and I and we even have leftovers! The fries are fresh, crispy, and the gravy is made with drippings of their own rotating rotisserie chicken. The chorizo sausage is barbecued to perfection. Did I mention they give you a lot of food for the price!? They also have a beautiful bakery with Bolas, strawberry cheesecake, and other fresh-made bakery items. They also have great service, with friendly cashiers, and the quality of food is 6 out of 5 stars. It's my favorite place and I come here almost once a week. They are passionate about their food and generous, and if you don't feel like paying up-the-arse for delicious Portuguese chicken Romados is the place for you. It's homey, they have spicy and mild Piri Piri sauce to choose from, the fries are tasty but not too salty, Chicken Salad is really delicious, and furthermore, they have family options, rice, potatoes, and you can order a half or quarter chicken, as well as other options like soup and barbecue pork (also very good). The prices are what you would expect from a nice restaurant, a bit expensive but fair, and they have numerous selections to choose from. I hadn't tried Portuguese fried sardines before and they were quite delicious, and served with lemon and a spicy piri piri sauce that really enhanced the dish--big portion and had leftovers! The grilled Chorizo was delectable as well, with the charcoal flavor really shining through--not too spicy. My favorite dish was the Pork and Clams stew, a classic Portuguese surf and turf dish that was a little potato heavy but the flavor was perfect with hints of lemon, red pepper paste, and a salty, but not-too-salty brine on the tender pork loin. Another dish I tried was the grilled pork medallions: it was a bit average but still good. The potatoes were a little soggy/not crispy and the green salad was a touch too simple with just balsamic vinegar and olive oil; nothing special, but decent. The grilled Portuguese chicken was pretty nice and had that charbroiled/grilled flavor and the meat was quite juicy. The large serving is enough to share if you aren't too hungry and came with same sides as the pork medallions dish, which felt a bit repetitive... The waiter was very attentive and checked up on our table often. Good service. I prefer Aldea, another Portuguese restaurant a few blocks away, since they had similar prices and a bit better quality, more uniqueness of flavor...but if you are feeling a more homey, family-style energy then Casa Minhota is perfect for you.

It starts with the parking out back, which is about 10 spots immediately adjacent to the rear of the restaurant. Parking there is only for restaurant patrons but there is usually parking on Rue St-Laurent, a most happening of places. The side is a happy Portuguese tiled experience, which I say with authority having dined in the most Portuguese place, Ironside neighborhood of Newark, NJ. The music is extremely well chosen Portuguese modern music which greatly enlivens the entire mood. I cannot say Africa things about the food. We came during Montrèal Restaurant week, locally called MTLáTable, which has C$27 3-course brunch specials which are ssoooo gooood, our party of seven ordered all different dishes and the quality presentation and unique cooking style of each one is to be complemented. Clearly the prep staff made fresh choices of ingredients of every type. Many highs include the unique drinks menu and the happy staff whose attitude make you want to go straight to Portugal, a famously idealized land & people, appropriately so. Salud!
