    2 Cuisses and frites
    Jeff R.

Easily the best chicken and fries I've had in Montreal. Everything gluten free including the hot sauce (separate fryer for fries). Super moist, flavorful chicken with crispy skin. Fries are fcking amazing and have a trace sweetness to them that makes it impossible not to finish the entire plate. Enjoy!

A pretty decent Portugese poutine (poutine with chicken and chorizo)

When I first walked in I looked at the menu and saw two things that caught my eye, the portugese chicken and the chorizo. Now, I like both of those things and so when it came to choosing what I wanted to eat the Poutine seemed like a good choice because it contained both (and it was a poutine too so that was a plus). While waiting for the food the waiter brought us over this delicious bread and butter. and then that's when the poutine came over. It was't bad, but it also wasn't amazing. The fries were great, gravy tasty, loaded with cheese curds, but what it wasn't loaded with was chicken and chorizo. I was okay with the amount of chicken (not impressed, but okay), and there was very little chorizo and it was quite dry. The waiter was also a lovely guy might I add, good customer service. tldr; not a bad joint, could use more meat in their poutine, chorizo a little dry, good customer service. I would come here again if a friend wanted to, but I would check out other places in the area first.

Looks can be deceiving from the outside but inside it is really a 5-Star place and out of this world quality. Really home cooked and transformed us to the old European country.

This place is WATATAWOW le gros! The chicken is delicious with a nice crispy skin; just like a Portugaise tanning in Cuba. The piri piri sauce comes on the side, so you get to oil up your own chicken just like when your at home alone . They real highlight was the service. Our waiter, Chris, was so good he made the chicken taste even better. That man is a Legend!

Grilled sardines are a must. A squeeze of lemon and you are good to go.

Walking up and down St. Viateur during vacation I saw this place with tons of people on the patio and good smells coming out of the front door. Plus the sign out side said grilled sardines! And lets just say good grilled sardines can be hard to fine in the states, so that put the nail in and we decided to go one night. IT was raining that day, so no patio, but service inside was good. Started with the house red as well as I know very little about Portuguese wine and figure this would be a good way to start trying them, and it was good and very reasonably priced. WE got the sardines of course, they were nicely done and tasty. Fairly typical to my mind for the dish, but very happy to gave them. We also tried the chicken and lamb combo. Figured that way would get a few tastes of things. The lamb was cooked nicely, tender and properly seasoned. A real winner. I thought the chicken was very good. Other reviewers have complained about the chicken here, but mine was moist and had a good flavor. From reading I know there is a real cult of Portuguese chicken going on with people's favorites and such, so I can't really compare to any place else, but standing on its own I thought it was very good. But know what the real secret here is? The pepper sauce. That thing is amazing! Great flavor and a dab on either the meats or the potatoes gave things a nice smokiness. That sauce is money in a jar! If I thought I could get it through customs I would have gotten a jar as they do sell it separately to go here! Heck at the very least stop in and grab a jar to try at home.

Thank god I found it because one large chicken + chorizo poutine can feed my hungry wife and I and we even have leftovers! The fries are fresh, crispy, and the gravy is made with drippings of their own rotating rotisserie chicken. The chorizo sausage is barbecued to perfection. Did I mention they give you a lot of food for the price!? They also have a beautiful bakery with Bolas, strawberry cheesecake, and other fresh-made bakery items. They also have great service, with friendly cashiers, and the quality of food is 6 out of 5 stars. It's my favorite place and I come here almost once a week. They are passionate about their food and generous, and if you don't feel like paying up-the-arse for delicious Portuguese chicken Romados is the place for you. It's homey, they have spicy and mild Piri Piri sauce to choose from, the fries are tasty but not too salty, Chicken Salad is really delicious, and furthermore, they have family options, rice, potatoes, and you can order a half or quarter chicken, as well as other options like soup and barbecue pork (also very good). Thank you Romados!

The patis de nata (I believe) would taste much better if it was heated. We bought it from the case. Otherwise, the service was fast, friendly and efficient.

The prices are what you would expect from a nice restaurant, a bit expensive but fair, and they have numerous selections to choose from. I hadn't tried Portuguese fried sardines before and they were quite delicious, and served with lemon and a spicy piri piri sauce that really enhanced the dish--big portion and had leftovers! The grilled Chorizo was delectable as well, with the charcoal flavor really shining through--not too spicy. My favorite dish was the Pork and Clams stew, a classic Portuguese surf and turf dish that was a little potato heavy but the flavor was perfect with hints of lemon, red pepper paste, and a salty, but not-too-salty brine on the tender pork loin. Another dish I tried was the grilled pork medallions: it was a bit average but still good. The potatoes were a little soggy/not crispy and the green salad was a touch too simple with just balsamic vinegar and olive oil; nothing special, but decent. The grilled Portuguese chicken was pretty nice and had that charbroiled/grilled flavor and the meat was quite juicy. The large serving is enough to share if you aren't too hungry and came with same sides as the pork medallions dish, which felt a bit repetitive... The waiter was very attentive and checked up on our table often. Good service. I prefer Aldea, another Portuguese restaurant a few blocks away, since they had similar prices and a bit better quality, more uniqueness of flavor...but if you are feeling a more homey, family-style energy then Casa Minhota is perfect for you.

It starts with the parking out back, which is about 10 spots immediately adjacent to the rear of the restaurant. Parking there is only for restaurant patrons but there is usually parking on Rue St-Laurent, a most happening of places. The side is a happy Portuguese tiled experience, which I say with authority having dined in the most Portuguese place, Ironside neighborhood of Newark, NJ. The music is extremely well chosen Portuguese modern music which greatly enlivens the entire mood. I cannot say Africa things about the food. We came during Montrèal Restaurant week, locally called MTLáTable, which has C$27 3-course brunch specials which are ssoooo gooood, our party of seven ordered all different dishes and the quality presentation and unique cooking style of each one is to be complemented. Clearly the prep staff made fresh choices of ingredients of every type. Many highs include the unique drinks menu and the happy staff whose attitude make you want to go straight to Portugal, a famously idealized land & people, appropriately so. Salud!
