Super grateful for a wonderful Xmas dinner. Cozy atmosphere n friendly print services. Extended operating hours are greatly appreciated:) All side dishes they provide were fresh, delicious and yummy, tyvm.

We just got off the plane and put our bags away, and time for lunch. We were sat quickly, and given a refresher on how to order the menu which went well as we got the thinly sliced pork belly, and the ribeye, the sides come with it and a perfect accompaniment, cucumbers great, and the potato salad went nice, but the sweet corn was awesome, the omelette was light and fluffy like a soufflé. The kimchi fried rice is special.

Came here on my last day in Montreal and this place was packed. Was told by a friend that unless you made a reservation, you either wouldn't get a spot or have to wait hours. There's a 2 hour limit to each table. We ended up just getting table bbq and ordered a bunch of meats and different cuts. They have a pretty great selection of cuts which was really nice. Each person is required to order 1 protein to satisfy the table bbq requirement. They have banchan and also some corn cheese and egg that melts on the grill itself. I think my only negative would be that the grill is too small for a large party. I think if you were eating by yourself or a party of 2, the grill size would be okay. However, we were a party of 6 and it took a while for everything to be fully cooked.

This has to be one of my favorite Korean bbq places that I have ever eaten at (and I've tried so many)!!! Be prepared to wait!!!! This place can get busy and is very popular. If you like Melona, you must get the Melona cocktail, it's one of the best drinks/desserts I've ever had. The meat selection was fantastic, definitely go with a large group so you can try so many things!!! The banchan selection was absolutely amazing. They are unlimited, but you purchase your meats and other items by the order. (It is not all you can eat). Staff was really great too, even though it was so busy in here for dinner.

Let's just say Montreal is not known for their good Korean cuisine and this place will prove it. They have the highest rating among other Korean eateries, but to me it was just 3 stars. 1. Reservation: necessary. You will wait 45 mins on average otherwise 2. kBBQ: Meat was okay, the samgyobsal was too thin, it burned easily. What made the experience so mediocre is because of the sauce. You need good sauce to dip your meat! The WORST of all is the shape of their grill. If you've ever watched Korean documentary about kbbq Culture, you'd know there're so many different types of grills and the shape of it matters to the quality of the grilled meat. Anyway, they have the dumbest shaped grid for their grill.. when you grill oilier stuff like pork belly all its excess oil drips into the eggs and cheese & corn.. you can see the oil floating and makes the stuff taste horrible. Don't get me started on the unhealthiness of that fat.. In the state side, we use grills that drips the excess oil for waste.. way better that way.. just like in Korea. 3. Service: busy 4. Drinks: not much of a choice. beer mostly. I wish they had makku the best rice beer. Coming from DC and spoiled by Annandale, this was disappointing. But if you live in Montreal, this may be your best bet.

I would give daldongnae 4.5 stars if I could. The setting of the restaurant is great but ventilation is a little stale so make sure to change clothes if you go out afterwards as your clothes will smell of BBQ. Upon being seated, there were lots of banchan. Surrounding the grill are liquid eggs, corn cheese, kimchi, and garlic. Other banchan include japchae (noodles), bean sprouts, etc. I ordered the tenderloin and it was delicious. There's some sauces like sesame oil with salt and pepper and also ssamjang. There's also a soybean soup that comes to the table. All the banchan are refillable too! Overall, a solid great kbbq spot. There's lots of servers that are all around - the table I was at was asked by 3 different servers if we had ordered.

Daldongnae - restaurant exterior in Montréal, best to make reservations as they are very busy

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than to be early! After strolling downtown Montreal, we arrived at Daldongdae in time to shelter from impending rainfall. A larger group was asked to return later, but we lucked into a small booth. We were fired up, with our KBBQ grill. Daldongnae's dark nostalgic interior depicts the "moon villages" that became communal refuge post-Korean War. Having had a similar meal in Toronto, we knew to expect a large array of side dishes along with cheese corn & steamed egg to simmer on the grill. Soybean stew arrived later from the kitchen too. It's always fun to cook your own meat. The menu offers a selection of pork & beef cuts. Beef Boneless Short Ribs were worth it. The pre-marinated slices had a nice mix of meat & fat to round out the sweet & savoury seasoning by. We had Pork Belly again that was cut to three medium sized thick slices. It was tasty with a refreshing onion vinegar mix & the soybean paste sauce in lettuce wraps. Service was friendly yet to-the-point, although it became more sporadic as dinner became busy. After our meal, the wait time for even a small group was 1.5 hours! Rain or shine, it seems this Daldongdae provides fun & value that draws diners to the experience.

Came here for dinner. Staff was friendly and service was okay. Couple of times we had to remind the server to bring extra side dishes. My favorite side dishes are the japchae and the potato salad. The meat was fresh. We ordered a fish cake soup and that was good. The egg on the side takes a while cook. The venting system is pretty good so when you leave you dont smell like bbq.

Authentic! We enjoyed everything! Service was awesome! We ate everything. We had the ribeye roll and pork butt. The prices were very good also.

A very busy spot but we only had to wait 10 minutes. Reservation recommended! Menu was in French but staff were very helpful. Ingredients and dishes were excellent and very authentic. The only negative was we asked for extra romaine and it was never delivered.

We love Korean BBQ! Daldongnae did not disappoint. We loved Daldongnae so much we returned 2 days later to dine again! All tables have the built in gas grill in the center and they mostly have 2-4 seat booths - there are a few other larger tables. Daldongnae has a 1 page menu that you scan a QR code to get via your cell phone. There is an equal amount of beef and pork BBQ choices. Shrimp and assorted mushrooms are a side. We don't think chicken is an option. The kitchen appears teeny and the waiters/waitresses are hustling. We did find it odd that the beef was not marinated but it did not hinder our food experience. We ordered the beef short plate and boneless short rib. Daldongnae does not have bulgogi (usually made of rib-eye) so the waiter recommend the beef short plate as a substitute. We preferred the beef short plate as it's thin, cooks quickly and has great flavor. All the classic accompanying side dishes were there: lettuce leaves, standard dipping sauce (soy sauce with scallions), kim chi, potato/starch salad, seasoned bean sprouts, spicy pickled radishes/cucumbers, scrambled egg, garlic slices, etc. We did have to ask to order rice and pay for it but this is not unusual. Service was good. The first time we arrived at 5pm and were seated right away. The food came out rapidly and we were pleased that they refilled our water jug quickly but we did have to ask twice for the rice bowls. The place was packed when we left at 6pm. The second time we arrived around 5pm and were seated quickly but it took a while for the waiter to come over to take our initial order. It was a holiday Monday evening and it looked like most of the staff was just arriving around that time. We had an excellent dining experience and will return again! We are used to NYC Koreatown on 32nd St so here are our comparisons. We were surprised by the proliferation of pork choices - equal as many beef and pork choices - usually it's all beef with 1 choice of shrimp, chicken, maybe pork. Jap chae is a separate main dish. Same complimentary accompanying side dishes but the scrambled egg is cooked around the grill rim vs. NYC where it's served in a small individual pot as a complimentary side dish. In Montreal, we were left to grill our meat on our own - in NYC Koreatown the waitresses/waiter will grill the meat for you (makes sense as they want you out quicker and watching inexperienced grillers burn their beef has got to be both amusing and pitiful to watch) but Flushing Queens NYC restaurants they do also expect you to grill your own meat. Sometimes we get lucky and get the rice noodles to wrap the beef but most of the time it's lettuce leaves or for an extra charge a bowl of rice. Meat at Daldongnae is not marinated as mentioned before but the waiters indicated to use the standard dipping sauce (soy sauce with scallions or something similar). No plates are provided so when you need to remove excess meat or the scrambled egg, you have to empty an existing plate - we're probably meant to cook and eat as you go. Note: Daldongnae appears to be a mostly Korean BBQ restaurant - we aren't even clear if you wanted a dinner of non-BBQ items (without the BBQ) if this is allowed as they are listed as side dishes and quite limited varieties (e.g. only 1 bibimbap: kimchi bibimbap with fish roe).

Service was one of the better things about this restaurant. Our server was attentive quick and the food came out fairly fast after ordering. May be getting carry out instead? We were able to get seated at a two top picnic table before 7pm, only about a 5-10 minute wait. Ordered two sides of kimchi, Kim gui, tteokbokki, regular spicy chickie, Buldak chicken. C$74.23 The kimchi side comes with a side of shredded radish, which is quite sweet. Was hoping it would be the cubed radish kimchi instead. The shredded radish clumps together, it's ok. The kimchi is also so-so. The seaweed is good. The tteokbokki is a small portion, the gochujang sauce tastes smokey, it's pretty good. Comes with mushrooms. The spicy chickie is good, the breading is light and crispy. The chickie is nicely fried, not too dry. I should have read more carefully, the Buldak is smothered in cheese, had to removed it all off the top of the meat. The meat is oddly cut, it's nicely cooked and tender. It's a big portion of meat. There is no complimentary rice with the BBQ Buldak chicken, that's a first. No banchans here as complimentary here either, not very Korean of this place at all. :/

TL;DR/The Short Version: Casual Korean eatery. Great combos…read morewith lots of variety. Everything was tasty. The Long Version: My husband and I went here for lunch. I got the fried chicken combo ($16.99) and my husband got the beef combo ($16.99). We requested no sesame seeds for our food and they accommodated by not sprinkling sesame seeds on the rice, japchae or beef, but they forgot that one of the fried chicken sauces has sesame seeds in it, so I had to give my husband that piece. We were going to share anyway, so it wasn't a big deal for me. The Fried Chicken Combo came with 3 pieces of fried chicken, each one a different flavour: original, sweet and spicy, and soy garlic. The sweet and spicy sauce has sesame seeds in it. Since I can't eat sesame seeds but can tolerate slight contamination, I didn't bring it up and just gave that piece to my husband. Although in retrospect I should have alerted them for them to be more aware for someone else who might have a more severe issue. Both combos came with japchae, rice, 2 dumplings, and coleslaw. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. It was great. I liked both the original and the soy garlic. Hubby liked the sweet and spicy. The beef was tender and flavourful. And I liked that it was lean meat and not gristly. The dumplings were deep-fried and had pork and vegetables in it. The rice was nicely steamed and slightly sticky which I liked. The japchae was flavourful and had shiitake mushrooms, carrots, bell peppers and onions in it. It was little too oily for my preference, but I still enjoyed it. The combos also came with a can of soda or a bottle of water. My husband got a Coca Cola and I got a bottle of water, which I took to go to drink during my shopping adventures after lunch, since we were given tap water with our meal. Service was courteous and efficient. Lots of indoor seating with televisions playing K-pop music videos in the dining room. The restaurant is down a flight of stairs, so might be a problem for those with mobility issues. Review #18 (2025)
