Petit poutine
Austin P.

This was another poutine recommendation from Eater, and the tour guide from our food and walking tour corroborated that. When we showed up and saw the line around the corner, we figured that it must be good. We waited in line for about 30-40 minutes, but it was a nice evening. (I assume that waiting in that line in the dead of winter would not be fun.) You can order to takeaway, but they have seating indoors. We opted to eat there because poutine is better fresh. I read that the petit was still quite large, so we opted to split the petit. We both agreed that was a smart decision. The poutine was good, but the flavor of the cheese curds was muted by the shredded chicken and choriço. Their signature dish is their Portuguese chicken, and so I'm curious how that tastes when it's not covered in poutine gravy and cheese curds.

This has been a favorite Montreal spot of mine for over a decade. The last time I was in Montreal, these guys had fire and I was afraid they wouldn't reopen. I'm so glad they did and still just as good as always. We ordered the chicken legs, the poutine, and pastel de nata. The ordering can be a bit confusing as it's not clear what line is which. So the move is your line up and order by the cooks in front then move to the back to pay at the cashier. The portions are large and even the small poutine can feed a family. I lived the spicy chicken and pastel de nata. The poutine was good but didn't need the sausage. Overall very happy we revisited and that they're still amazing.

It was a nice stop at Ma Poule, the line was relatively short compared to other times and it moved quickly. We ordered a half chicken with fries and sausage and it was very tasty, especially the sauce, and wow there were lots of nice, fresh fries. There were a lot of other dishes that looked great and I think we probably made a mistake ordering chicken breast because it was a bit dry, everything else was perfect! Would definitely go back.

The chicken is tender, it's better with the spicy sauce. The portion is huge and you can definitely share with two people. It's very popular but I found the overall flavor is okay, not a complete wow. But the dessert was great!

#8 chicken and chorizo poutine large

The BEST POUTINE & BBQ chicken i ever had! It was the best food we had from Montreal. I've been to La Banquise for poutine multiple times and LB's good but this chicken and chorizo poutine is superior! Perfect potato fries, bbq chicken, cheese curds and gravy! Dont forget to ask for their spicy sauce on top! (Not spicy at all, just gives extra umami!) This place also gets long queue but much less than LB and it moves pretty fast! Their service is fast and efficient. While u are waiting, u can see how they cook their chicken on the Portuguese grill. I want to try bbq chicken with their hot sauce next time when I visit Mtl again. PS. Get large!! And pastel de nata is just ordinary.

I'm a huge fan of Somebody Feed Phil, and after watching Phil's Montreal episode, I knew I had to make a stop at Ma Poule Mouillée. It ended up being one of the best meals of my trip. When I arrived, there was a short line, and as soon as I walked inside, the incredible aroma of rotisserie chicken filled the room. That's when I knew I was in for something special. I was told to order the wet hot chicken plate, so I did--and it absolutely did not disappoint. I also couldn't resist trying the famous chicken poutine. The flavors were bold, rich, and incredibly satisfying. The portions were enormous, too; there was easily enough food for several meals. Before leaving, I picked up a small homemade tres leches tart for dessert. It was the perfect ending to the meal. The cake was moist and delicious, and the caramelized burnt sugar on top added an amazing flavor and texture. I honestly wish Ma Poule Mouillée had a location in Detroit because this would become my monthly dinner spot without question. This place is the definition of "winner, winner, chicken dinner." If you're visiting Montreal, don't miss it--you'll leave full, happy, and already thinking about your next visit.

I found myself at Ma Poule Mouillée as part of a food tour I was on. We were not told in advance which places we were visiting, so it was a pleasant surprise to find out that this was on the route. While I didn't know too much about this spot, I was aware of its popularity and that they served good poutine; needless to say, I was looking forward to checking it out. Ma Poule Mouillée is a Portuguese restatuant that specializes in chicken and poutine. We were there late morning so it was not crowded, though I was told it's normal for a line for form around the block during peak times. Our tour guide also mentioned that this place, along with La Banquise which sits catty corner, are two of the most popular places for poutine in the city. We were here for poutine - specifically, we got the variety topped with chorizo and roasted chicken. It was delicious - the fries were crispy, and the combo for the chorizo and chicken with the gravy and cheese curds really made for an elevated poutine. We didn't have time for anything else, but what we had was enough to make an impression. Overall, Ma Poule Mouillée was a total yes - this was one of the best poutines I've had in a while and I would definitely return the next time I'm in Montreal.

Small Poutine is HUGE

We visited this place because we just had to try poutine and heard it was fabulous here. That is true, and you'll be sure after 1st bite.. Great fries, with chorizo + bits of chicken, good amount of cheese curds and finally smothered w/gravy. I thought the gravy might be an afterthought/not interesting- but no, it was delicious. You walk in the door and all you smell is chicken grilling+ chargrilled goodness. They offer a1/2chicken w/salad+ fries. Since we were ordering the poutine we didn't want those extra sides; we just ordered whole chicken. They'll ask, spicy or not? We got 'spicy' -basically the orange sauce in pics. It's not at all 'spicy hot' -but tastes garlicky, rich and delicious. Great choice. Chicken is Portuguese style; with a chargrilled taste, very juicy and well seasoned. Talked to several people who were near us eating about how great the food was, and found out that like us, several of them were out of towners who'd asked a local "where to eat" in town. Every single person was raving about how delicious it all was. This place is the Bomb! Absolutely a 'Do Not miss' in Montreal. The small poutine we ordered was huge! And the large sized poutine others bought was size of a ham on the large plate. Even with 2 hungry people and my Hubbie is a big dude, we brought almost 1/2 of our food home to finish the next day. Not bad for $34+ tax. PS One pic is from neighboring table's plate- the guy said "Please do take a picture. What a find! I can't believe this place".

I had so many recommendations to try this poutine in Montreal and it did not disappoint. The location is actually a Portuguese chicken restaurant but they do a poutine that has 2 full legs of chicken and sausage on top of your usual squeaky cheese curds, crispy fries and piping hot gravy. The portion was massive. We ordered the large poutine and it only cost $19.00. I think what makes this dish is the chicken, which is cooked to perfection with crispiest skin. The service was quick and you could see the chicken being roasted on the spits. The restaurant itself is set up as take out. You order and then find a spot to sit. Pretty spacious and lots of seating available. We went on a Monday morning (10am) during the winter so there was no line up. But I have heard that it can get very busy. We also got the eggs tarts which were delicious. Great recommendation.

They have a tiny dining room. Their reputation brings many people coming. Locals and tourists line up around the block. Their chicken is delicious. Their poutine is huge. We ordered it loaded but I would order it without the chorizo. It's a little much.

Number 8! Rotisserie chicken with Portuguese meats
Chelsey O.

Want a Thanksgiving feast? I would say order the number 8. We had Portuguese meat, rotisserie chicken all in gravy on top of fries. I would say it reminded me of a heavy Thanksgiving meal. It was good. Don't get me wrong. The line was a bit long outside but once you get in, you order, wait for you food, pay, and then find a table to eat. It's small inside but you can grab a seat if you're patient. They also have a spicy sauce you can add to your meal that was pretty good. It's definitely worth a try but I think there are so many different poutine places I would try around Montreal.

Chorizo and chicken poutine, chicken leg with salad and fries
Manan B.

Their gravy is delicious. Chicken is falling off the bone, it's cooked so well. The portions are huge - my wife couldn't finish her "small" poutine, and I couldn't finish my portion of chicken legs with salad and fries. There is limited seating and no one seats you, so you have to watch for tables to free up and grab one while being in line for the food so having company helps!

Diane S.

Their grilled calamari and Portuguese chicken were AMAZING! The chicken still tasted delicious even when it was cold. They truly worked some magic with their sauce. I didn't try their famous poutine, and now I really regret it. I'll definitely be coming back when I get the chance!

Thank god I found it because one large chicken + chorizo poutine can feed my hungry wife and I and we even have leftovers! Did I mention they give you a lot of food for the price!? They also have a beautiful bakery with Bolas, strawberry cheesecake, and other fresh-made bakery items. They also have great service, with friendly cashiers, and the quality of food is 6 out of 5 stars. It's my favorite place and I come here almost once a week. They are passionate about their food and generous, and if you don't feel like paying up-the-arse for delicious Portuguese chicken Romados is the place for you. It's homey, they have spicy and mild Piri Piri sauce to choose from, the fries are tasty but not too salty, Chicken Salad is really delicious, and furthermore, they have family options, rice, potatoes, and you can order a half or quarter chicken, as well as other options like soup and barbecue pork (also very good). Thank you Romados!

Lots of flavor and I love the garlic oil that it comes with. We found a spot on the big covered street patio, which was absolutely buzzing. Nearly every table was occupied, there were several other four-legged patrons relaxing with their humans, and somehow the whole thing still had an easy, laid-back neighborhood feel. Exactly what I needed after a very demanding day of being carried around Montreal. Mum and Dad ordered a couple of drinks. Then they ordered the popcorn with Manchego, chili and lime. Friends. This was not ordinary popcorn. It arrived piled ridiculously high with chili-lime seasoning and what may have been the finest Parmesan-adjacent cheese shavings these eyes have ever witnessed. Editor's note from Mum: It was Manchego. Whatever. There was cheese. I became extremely interested. Mum and Dad kept saying things like, "Oh wow, this is really good," while eating piece after piece directly in front of me. I believe the official hospitality term for this is hostile dining. Still, Henrietta turned out to be exactly the kind of place we love finding while traveling: not somewhere we necessarily planned our entire day around, but somewhere we wandered into, sat down with the dog, ordered a couple of drinks and suddenly realized we were having a really nice afternoon. The covered patio is especially great because you still get all the Montreal street life without feeling like you're sitting directly on the sidewalk. The prices are what you would expect from a nice restaurant, a bit expensive but fair, and they have numerous selections to choose from. I hadn't tried Portuguese fried sardines before and they were quite delicious, and served with lemon and a spicy piri piri sauce that really enhanced the dish--big portion and had leftovers! The grilled Chorizo was delectable as well, with the charcoal flavor really shining through--not too spicy. My favorite dish was the Pork and Clams stew, a classic Portuguese surf and turf dish that was a little potato heavy but the flavor was perfect with hints of lemon, red pepper paste, and a salty, but not-too-salty brine on the tender pork loin. Another dish I tried was the grilled pork medallions: it was a bit average but still good. The potatoes were a little soggy/not crispy and the green salad was a touch too simple with just balsamic vinegar and olive oil; nothing special, but decent. The grilled Portuguese chicken was pretty nice and had that charbroiled/grilled flavor and the meat was quite juicy. The large serving is enough to share if you aren't too hungry and came with same sides as the pork medallions dish, which felt a bit repetitive... The waiter was very attentive and checked up on our table often. Good service. I prefer Aldea, another Portuguese restaurant a few blocks away, since they had similar prices and a bit better quality, more uniqueness of flavor...but if you are feeling a more homey, family-style energy then Casa Minhota is perfect for you.

The side is a happy Portuguese tiled experience, which I say with authority having dined in the most Portuguese place, Ironside neighborhood of Newark, NJ. The music is extremely well chosen Portuguese modern music which greatly enlivens the entire mood. I cannot say Africa things about the food. We came during Montrèal Restaurant week, locally called MTLáTable, which has C$27 3-course brunch specials which are ssoooo gooood, our party of seven ordered all different dishes and the quality presentation and unique cooking style of each one is to be complemented. Clearly the prep staff made fresh choices of ingredients of every type.
