So I was in Montreal on business and my kid insisted that while there I must try something called poutine. So where better to get poutine than from a place called Poutineville? I ordered via a delivery service and poutine is something that you'd have to maybe have the palate for. It wasn't my favorite as it is full of carbs. I thought I'd get a lot of protein on top that I could pick through and eat but it was a lot of fries and smothered in gravy. I'm sure for those that are poutine fans it was good but to me it was not bad just too much for me. I also ordered a salad and it was fresh but had no lettuce in it. We were staying nearby and needed some food after a long day of traveling by train. Poutineville was just a few blocks from where we were staying, so we decided to give it a try. Upon walking in we were promptly seated by the friendly hostess/ waitress. The menu had a vast array of Poutines that were world cuisine inspired. I wound up getting the General Tso's Chicken Poutine and was really happy with my order. The gravy was not too rich or heavy and the fries were lighter as well. The sweetness balanced well with the savory quality of the gravy that was used. As for the atmosphere, this is definitely more of a family oriented, casual restaurant. I loved that they had games available to play while you wait. My husband and I played UNO until our food arrived. I would say the lighting was a bit too much like being in a garage, it should've been softer to create more of an ambiance in my opinion. But overall, the food was good and a great value for this part of Montreal. I also really enjoyed the classic rock playing over the speakers. We wanted a ground beef and fried onion poutine and out of all the ones they had the closest match was the Cheeseburger poutine I also started off with a small house salad. There are Poutineville restaurants all through eastern Canada. This one has a small patio outside and dining area inside with TV. We kinda knew we wouldn't like poutine so we ordered a regular size to sample. The fries and gravy were good but the cheese curds tho. They were squeaky and flavorless.
