The prices are what you would expect from a nice restaurant, a bit expensive but fair, and they have numerous selections to choose from. I hadn't tried Portuguese fried sardines before and they were quite delicious, and served with lemon and a spicy piri piri sauce that really enhanced the dish--big portion and had leftovers! The grilled Chorizo was delectable as well, with the charcoal flavor really shining through--not too spicy. My favorite dish was the Pork and Clams stew, a classic Portuguese surf and turf dish that was a little potato heavy but the flavor was perfect with hints of lemon, red pepper paste, and a salty, but not-too-salty brine on the tender pork loin. Another dish I tried was the grilled pork medallions: it was a bit average but still good. The potatoes were a little soggy/not crispy and the green salad was a touch too simple with just balsamic vinegar and olive oil; nothing special, but decent. The grilled Portuguese chicken was pretty nice and had that charbroiled/grilled flavor and the meat was quite juicy. The large serving is enough to share if you aren't too hungry and came with same sides as the pork medallions dish, which felt a bit repetitive... The waiter was very attentive and checked up on our table often. Good service. I prefer Aldea, another Portuguese restaurant a few blocks away, since they had similar prices and a bit better quality, more uniqueness of flavor...but if you are feeling a more homey, family-style energy then Casa Minhota is perfect for you.

It starts with the parking out back, which is about 10 spots immediately adjacent to the rear of the restaurant. Parking there is only for restaurant patrons but there is usually parking on Rue St-Laurent, a most happening of places. The side is a happy Portuguese tiled experience, which I say with authority having dined in the most Portuguese place, Ironside neighborhood of Newark, NJ. The music is extremely well chosen Portuguese modern music which greatly enlivens the entire mood. I cannot say Africa things about the food. We came during Montrèal Restaurant week, locally called MTLáTable, which has C$27 3-course brunch specials which are ssoooo gooood, our party of seven ordered all different dishes and the quality presentation and unique cooking style of each one is to be complemented. Clearly the prep staff made fresh choices of ingredients of every type. Many highs include the unique drinks menu and the happy staff whose attitude make you want to go straight to Portugal, a famously idealized land & people, appropriately so. Salud!

This restaurant is on the top floor of a high rise building and you have to take a separate elevator up. Once off the elevator you are greeted by the host/hostess who then accompanies you to your seat. The wait was a bit long but our waiter I forgot his name was so accommodating and his service made up for that. The food was fresh and delicious. If you wanted, you have the option to select your choice of fresh seafood (fish, crab legs, lobster, etc.) and the chef cooks it to perfection. I was in the mood for fish and it was so delicious and they debone it for you right at the table. The drinks are great, the ambiance was beautiful, and I appreciated the subtle 360 movement and the views while we ate. This restaurant is a must try if you are visiting Montreal.

My wife, son (9) and I visit Longueuil about twice a year from where we currently live in New York…read morebecause my wife's relatives live here. After they yet again hosted us at one of their places, we took her cousin and the cousin's parents to Silvia Grill, seeing that it was highly recommended and a bit elevated. Montreal has many Portuguese restaurants specializing in rotisserie chicken that we would like to try. We chose this one because we are very accustomed to eating at Brazilian steakhouses. The menu at this Portuguese restaurant is similar to what we're used to so we felt comfortable recommending it; we also bet big on this place because my wife's aunt is an excellent cook, I mean a ridiculously good chef of all kinds of Peruvian foods in particular (my wife is Peruvian, I am a gringo of Italian/Sicilian extraction from New York). Our group ordered their national soup caldo verde, Caesar salad and a bottle of Spanish wine to start (reasonable and delicious). Caldo verde is a soup made of collard greens, potato and garnished with smoked Portuguese chorizo. This one was thinner in consistency than its Brazilian counterpart that we always order in New York, and it is a small serving in a big white plate. It has an earthy flavor of potato and fresh collards, and with just three delicious slices of chorizo it is light and fitting starter to a big meal. My son had the Caesar salad which they said was good. To me it looked over-engineered and a bit overdressed, and it looked to be a very small serving. We omitted the slices of crispy chorizo for his benefit and he liked it very much (at nine years old he has a thing for Caesar salad and salad in general). For entrees it was a whole different story. My wife and son split the special, a flank steak frites. I'm not a fan of flank steak but it was delicious. The French fries were perfect and the side of sauteed vegetables was great, too. I did notice, and this is all over Quebec province where we visit, that the size of the steak is (very) small by American standards so sharing this was not optimal since my son is a good eater. My wife's uncle and I ordered the grelhada mista, or mixed grill, consisting of a delicious quarter chicken (excellent spicy peri peri sauce on top!), a pork, a small serving of steak (flank I think) and their delicious smoked chorizo. The accompanying potatoes and sauteed vegetables were excellent, too. I have no comments on the size of this dish because it was filling. My wife's aunt and her daughter ordered one paella and it looked delicious. It had saffron rice, chorizo, chicken and seafood. They both raved about it and what meant a lot to us was that my wife's aunt was excitedly trying to identify all of the seasonings. My wife's cousin, in fact, said she would order a few of them next week for her two brothers who were not present, for takeaway to have at dinner. The desserts, too, were excellent. Our guests ordered blueberry cheesecake which they said was delicious (this appeared to be French-style cheesecake with blueberry compote). My wife had a caramel flan that was delicious (I sampled it), and I had the national dessert of pastéis de nata. These are vanilla custard tarts that are either served hot or made to order. I've had them before and these were stellar. Overall I highly recommend this place. Our server was great about everything -- he spoke English, French and some Portuguese -- including wine and food recommendations for the uninitiated. I've made it a point to report on some restaurants in Quebec because I've noticed that it's difficult for Americans to navigate that mess of badly presented Google Maps reviews. I'm glad I started with this place!

I had a traditional striploin steak and fries with mushroom sauce. It was good, although I asked for it rare and it was definitely medium. My cousin sitting next to me asked for it medium and it was definitely well done. Tasted good, though. To start I had the sardine paté which was tasty as well. This place is BYOB only, which is cool with me 'cus we drank top-notch wines without paying the keystone vino markup. Where they fell short was on the service and overall experience. To give them credit, it was an incredibly busy night, but I'm of the opinion that a top level restaurant should staff properly and accommodate the guests it seats without compromising any aspect. Anyway, we went here with a party of 10 on December 22nd and it was packed full of other parties just like ours. Considering how crowded it was, the staff did ok, but they were definitely understaffed - like 3 servers for about 100 diners. They became flustered and service started to falter. For example, one of the young kids at our table spilled a glass of water and the waiter didn't re-set the table until we requested he do so. When he did 're-set' it, he only replaced the paper on top of the linen table cloth, so it immediately soaked through and was wet again. Other details were missed consistently throughout the night as well. Good food, decent service, unable to handle the busy holiday season, worth and try and another try.
