We did take out of their family combo (chicken, fried rice, fries, salad). And let me tell you, it is now our go to place for Portuguese craving!!! Their chicken is tasteful, moist!! Love their fries! The portions are generous, so that we often have leftover and it is still good the next day when heated. We recommended the restaurant to family and friends who are now regularly ordering from Brazas Portugal. Good friendly customer service :)

The ambiance is pretty dim with warm colors that set a nice mood for those of you who enjoy that intimate or romantic setting. We were promptly seated in the back, warm and far away from the cold winter harshness and isolated well enough so our conversation was kept private. After some contemplation we went with the 'Prato de Carnes' (meat platter!) which consisted of chicken, portuguese sausages and pork. While we waited we were provided with a huge warm bread bun which we promptly ravaged. After 15 minutes or so, our meal was served in a huge plate filled with delicious looking meats and a side plate with french fries with homemade mayo. Let me just state that the chicken was out of this world good, so much so it completely surpassed everything else. The moistness.... THE MOISTNESS PEOPLE!... and the taste... BY GAWD the TASTE!!!! I must go back just for this! The sausages, they were good... but completely forgettable after tasting that chicken... the pork? an afterthought!! The chicken folks... the chicken!!!! Why are you still reading this? The side fries were good as well... and the home mayo were delicious... they should provide it in a bigger bowl though. :) For dessert, we went with Portuguese tarts... they were pretty tasty. The price-tag is about average and worth it. The service was decent as well. All in all, somewhere I'd def go back.

When we did, they had already given all the tables away. So we waited another 15, and got a 2 person table with an extra chair added in the middle of the restaurant walkway. Just a few minutes later, a 4 person table freed up so we asked if we could switch. The waiter said no sorry... however I think he spoke to his boss after who seemed to hesitantly make an exception... even though we had had a reservation... and still had to wait. I would definitely go back for the food. Interior is a bit cramped and not in the most charming way, so I think I would prefer to order it out to go.

Casa Minhota is a homey Portuguese restaurant with great service, authentic food, and a relaxing…read moreatmosphere. The prices are what you would expect from a nice restaurant, a bit expensive but fair, and they have numerous selections to choose from. I hadn't tried Portuguese fried sardines before and they were quite delicious, and served with lemon and a spicy piri piri sauce that really enhanced the dish--big portion and had leftovers! The grilled Chorizo was delectable as well, with the charcoal flavor really shining through--not too spicy. My favorite dish was the Pork and Clams stew, a classic Portuguese surf and turf dish that was a little potato heavy but the flavor was perfect with hints of lemon, red pepper paste, and a salty, but not-too-salty brine on the tender pork loin. Another dish I tried was the grilled pork medallions: it was a bit average but still good. The potatoes were a little soggy/not crispy and the green salad was a touch too simple with just balsamic vinegar and olive oil; nothing special, but decent. The grilled Portuguese chicken was pretty nice and had that charbroiled/grilled flavor and the meat was quite juicy. The large serving is enough to share if you aren't too hungry and came with same sides as the pork medallions dish, which felt a bit repetitive... The waiter was very attentive and checked up on our table often. Good service. I prefer Aldea, another Portuguese restaurant a few blocks away, since they had similar prices and a bit better quality, more uniqueness of flavor...but if you are feeling a more homey, family-style energy then Casa Minhota is perfect for you.

The side is a happy Portuguese tiled experience, which I say with authority having dined in the most Portuguese place, Ironside neighborhood of Newark, NJ. The music is extremely well chosen Portuguese modern music which greatly enlivens the entire mood. I cannot say Africa things about the food. We came during Montrèal Restaurant week, locally called MTLáTable, which has C$27 3-course brunch specials which are ssoooo gooood, our party of seven ordered all different dishes and the quality presentation and unique cooking style of each one is to be complemented. Clearly the prep staff made fresh choices of ingredients of every type. I went here with my parents & wife and it was the first family dinner we had in years, so we wanted to go somewhere special. This was one of my top 5 meals ever. The grilled meat was astounding, especially my main course, the Veal Chop. It was perfectly seasoned, big portion (great!), cooked medium, juicy, salty, with simple yet bold flavor and served with tasty veggies and potatoes. It came with a kale soup which was delicious as well. It had a few slices of Chorizo, which were some of best bites of chorizo I've ever had (will probably get this next time!). We shared our food with each other so I got to taste everything. The fresh sea bass was divine-- cooked perfectly on the grill, tasty and indeed, very fresh. Grilled rack of lamb was super good, and came with a big portion. The scallops with pancetta or pork...unbelievable, came with only three but it was absolutely worth it. The Beautiful buttery sauce that came with it was fantastic! Dessert was delicious: passion fruit mousse!! Service was stellar and he even took a great family picture for us, and recommended the best main dish (grilled veal chop). I really can't wait to try the other dishes! Will try to come here as much as I can...thank you Aldea.

You can spice to taste - we get extra hot and love it. The mild, regular serving seems very bland, at least to my palette. They offer delivery - but only sporadically. If you do manage to get it, you're going to wait an hour+ even if you're in the neighborhood. The interior is cozy enough with ample seating on large tables. Even though it's a big space, I've only ever seen one server to run all the tables. Service can be slow. All in all a very good meal of you're not rushed. The big downside is that prices have nearly doubled in the last 3-4 years. As an example, their popular family special (1.5 chicken, salad and fries) used to run roughly $35, it's now pushing $60. Dining in is always pricier for larger groups, they gouge you with drinks. Still, it's worth the wait but the prices are getting tough to justify. There seems to be a lot of turnover so maybe it's mismanaged. A shame because the food has been consistently good. Still, if you're looking for very good Portuguese chicken, don't mind the wait and higher prices, this is your spot. There are other options in the city but for the area, it's as good as it gets.

My wife, son (9) and I visit Longueuil about twice a year from where we currently live in New York…read morebecause my wife's relatives live here. After they yet again hosted us at one of their places, we took her cousin and the cousin's parents to Silvia Grill, seeing that it was highly recommended and a bit elevated. Montreal has many Portuguese restaurants specializing in rotisserie chicken that we would like to try. We chose this one because we are very accustomed to eating at Brazilian steakhouses. The menu at this Portuguese restaurant is similar to what we're used to so we felt comfortable recommending it; we also bet big on this place because my wife's aunt is an excellent cook, I mean a ridiculously good chef of all kinds of Peruvian foods in particular (my wife is Peruvian, I am a gringo of Italian/Sicilian extraction from New York). Our group ordered their national soup caldo verde, Caesar salad and a bottle of Spanish wine to start (reasonable and delicious). Caldo verde is a soup made of collard greens, potato and garnished with smoked Portuguese chorizo. This one was thinner in consistency than its Brazilian counterpart that we always order in New York, and it is a small serving in a big white plate. It has an earthy flavor of potato and fresh collards, and with just three delicious slices of chorizo it is light and fitting starter to a big meal. My son had the Caesar salad which they said was good. To me it looked over-engineered and a bit overdressed, and it looked to be a very small serving. We omitted the slices of crispy chorizo for his benefit and he liked it very much (at nine years old he has a thing for Caesar salad and salad in general). For entrees it was a whole different story. My wife and son split the special, a flank steak frites. I'm not a fan of flank steak but it was delicious. The French fries were perfect and the side of sauteed vegetables was great, too. I did notice, and this is all over Quebec province where we visit, that the size of the steak is (very) small by American standards so sharing this was not optimal since my son is a good eater. My wife's uncle and I ordered the grelhada mista, or mixed grill, consisting of a delicious quarter chicken (excellent spicy peri peri sauce on top!), a pork, a small serving of steak (flank I think) and their delicious smoked chorizo. The accompanying potatoes and sauteed vegetables were excellent, too. I have no comments on the size of this dish because it was filling. My wife's aunt and her daughter ordered one paella and it looked delicious. It had saffron rice, chorizo, chicken and seafood. They both raved about it and what meant a lot to us was that my wife's aunt was excitedly trying to identify all of the seasonings. My wife's cousin, in fact, said she would order a few of them next week for her two brothers who were not present, for takeaway to have at dinner. The desserts, too, were excellent. Our guests ordered blueberry cheesecake which they said was delicious (this appeared to be French-style cheesecake with blueberry compote). My wife had a caramel flan that was delicious (I sampled it), and I had the national dessert of pastéis de nata. These are vanilla custard tarts that are either served hot or made to order. I've had them before and these were stellar. Overall I highly recommend this place. Our server was great about everything -- he spoke English, French and some Portuguese -- including wine and food recommendations for the uninitiated. I've made it a point to report on some restaurants in Quebec because I've noticed that it's difficult for Americans to navigate that mess of badly presented Google Maps reviews. I'm glad I started with this place!

Portuguese themed decorations with cute plates glued on the roof, Portuguese accessories along the walls and a huge bar you can eat at and watch the action in progress. I went with their quarter chicken with side fries and salad. The chicken was moist and tasty..... just as I'd expect a competent Portuguese place to provide me with with a great charcoal grill. What really knocked my socks off was how fantastic the fries were! Literally the best fries I have ever eaten. Perfectly prepared and then covered in their household secret blend of 17 spices.... these fries are literal taste-bud heaven! Portion size is generous, it's a huge plate. Along with my meal, I had a Sumol Passion fruit drink and a Pastel de Nata. I love Sumol (imported from Portugal) and it compliments this food perfectly. The Pastel de Nata was really good as well and I liked it so much I ordered a dozen to go to share at work. They were a big hit and I ended up going back to Escudo Express with some co-workers so they can enjoy what I experienced. They loved the chicken and freaked out how good the fries were. Everyone was delighted on how great the food is. Price-tag is reasonable, value is very high. I recommend their chicken, fries and Pastel de Nata. There used to be more places like this on the plateau but not anymore. Thankfully Chez Doval is still hanging in there and doing it old school. Like a lot of the places on the plateau people go here to have a good meal, and a good time, and you will often see groups having a great time here. All that cheap Portuguese red wine really loosens the clients up. The service over the years has been a mixed bag of super-friendly, charmingly grouchy, laissez-faire, or professionally efficient. It depend on the night, depends on the era. The joke back in the day was you'd call and make a reservation and when you showed up it would be crazy busy - just pandemonium - and you'd tell them you made a reservation and they'd act like you had one, but essential you were just waiting in line like everyone else. Somehow it always worked out and it was just part of the charm. So if you do try it out, just go with the flow, get a little sloppy and enjoy the vibe. On our recent visits the place seems less frenetic, which suits us just fine. The one thing you can count on is a great rib steak - and when we go back (which is less often because we used to live in the neighborhood and now we live in a different city) we go for the steak. It is always delicious, and it comes with a side salad. I always enjoy snacking on a Portuguese bun and little olives with a glass of red wine before the steak arrives. Good times!
