Food is amazing. The sauce they use on the chicken is incredible. However the service was iffy. We made a same day reservation for 3 people, and then when we showed up, they had our reservation for a different day. They asked us to come back in 30 minutes. When we did, they had already given all the tables away. So we waited another 15, and got a 2 person table with an extra chair added in the middle of the restaurant walkway. Just a few minutes later, a 4 person table freed up so we asked if we could switch. The waiter said no sorry... however I think he spoke to his boss after who seemed to hesitantly make an exception... even though we had had a reservation... and still had to wait. I would definitely go back for the food. Interior is a bit cramped and not in the most charming way, so I think I would prefer to order it out to go. read more

Quite honestly, when we come to Montréal, all we think about is having French food and we don't deviate from that equation. Until recently when my non-Yelp husband located A Quinta- serving Portuguese food in the Ville-Marie section. Don't worry, this area is fully residential and you won't come across any tourists. And if you don't mind grabbing something to eat wayyyyyy off the beaten path like we did, this might be for you. The clearly boarded side window was enough for me to judge- but, I came with an open mind. Cute inside. Homey inside. Smells good inside. Portuguese Reggaeton played and it was all good. Marie was a doll who speaks her dominant Portuguese, speaks French AND Spanish. Service from her was incredible and made our visit easy-going and full of laughs. Since we wanted to still catch up with some antique and vintage buying, coming here for a few small plates, was all we needed for fuel. Our Red Sangria was refreshing on a mild winter Montréal day. But our small Seafood plates ALL stole the show. Hubs enjoyed their grilled chouriço and all the 3 seafood plates that came after that were cleverly prepared. The Broiled Shrimp in this olive oil/crushed garlic/saffrony/seasony goodness was heavenly.A hearty, crusty outside-pillowy inside bun was brought over- because there was no way in hell, I was leaving that sauce behind! Grilled Squid and Octopus were plated together and each were buttery-soft. And forget about the grilled veggies bathed in olive oil with just the right amount of red wine vinegar drops and topped with a creamy chèvre that rendered delightfulness. The price for ALL our dishes and drinks was like 86$CA. Because hubs and I have eaten mostly in Old Montréal since we started coming here in the last several years, we always get a thrill driving through different neighborhoods and away from tourist streets. Absolutely loved this place! Come in, find a table or sit in the outside seating area. Excellent, helpful customer service. Restrooms located in the back. You won't be disappointed in any of the meat selections. I'm personally a fan of the potatoes and I WILL be returning for the little custard pies! All portuguese flavors in one single dish! This is how it felt when I tried their grilled Calamari plate yesterday. You know when all the sauces eventually get mixed in the bottom of the plate. it could be a deal breaker...but nope, this plate was so flavorful and the synergy of the flavors works so well it was one of the most delectable restaurant dish I had in a while. The fries were also cooked to perfection with the perfect amount of seasoning. Staff super friendly. The restaurant looks like nothing from outside but it all happens with your taste buds! --- Toutes les saveurs portugaises en un seul plat! Portuguese restaurant not bad at all, nothing crazy about it. Service was friendly even if the waiter forgot the drinks we ordered, then a young girl came asking for our drinks again but she barely understood French French (yeah my family was here from France and they don't speak French Canadian obviously..). Food was good, big portions but I can name a bunch of other Portuguese restaurants in Montreal that are better and for the same price. It's near my house but I don't think I will go back there since there are so many others to try out. read more

OMG...THIS PLACE!!! A Quinta is one of those restaurants that I would have preferred not to mention in case their cover is blown and EVERYONE starts bombarding the place, causing prices to rise, quality to diminish, tables impossible to acquire...you know how it goes. But make no mistake, this cozy spot on the corner of Ontario & Cartier isn't nearly as modest as they would appear, and they really deserve a huge shout-out! The rainy day had me feeling so sluggish as I was trying to get a pile of work done this long weekend. I didn't feel like cooking so I finally decided to give them a try, and so glad I did! I'm new to the area and found this place during a random Google map search and was dying to try them as I LOOOOOVE Portuguese food, especially when there's octopus on the menu! When I happened to drive past the other night, the place was filled with people inside and out (on the terrasse), and the aromas billowing out into the street were making me a little jealous of everyone there. I could even smell their grill as I was driving half-way up Cartier! I ordered the grilled octopus platter for takeout. I was surprised (in a good way) by the enormity of the portion that came with salad (spring mix, red onion, tomato slices) on the side, rice, and what they called "Portuguese potatoes". The octopus was perfectly cooked, topped with chopped red onions, tomato, leek, banana peppers (not hot), and a big wedge of lemon. Their grilled octo was not overly dressed up, which is how I like it as I prefer the natural taste of certain seafood and meat. I had a side of their piri piri sauce, which was the ideal complement to the potatoes and rice, and brought forth a stronger flavour, otherwise none of the components of the meal in particular had heavy flavours going on, though not entirely bland. I thought the Portuguese potatoes were the Parisien kind - the ones that make me all giddy - the round kind that appear in one of the photos on their website, but what I got were fried cubes of all sizes, skin on - ALSO MY FAVE!!! They were also really good *even better with their piri piri sauce* but I've never had bad fries or potatoes in Montreal. It's obviously a thing. Thank God for such mercies. I only got through a third of the meal as I didn't want to pass out after, but I could easily crank three meals out of this massive score! A Quinta's menu offers so many options to choose from: seafood, churrasqueira meat, and then some, so you're sure to find something to love. I get the feeling service is very good as well - I only did a quick pickup but the lady who took payment was really nice. Add to that the quality of ingredients, crazy portions, incredible prices - and if you care about such things: the ambience - which all add up to a win-win, but SSHHHH! Don't tell anyone! read more

I've been an A Quinta fan for many months now, ordering in food a few times a month, sometimes more than once a week. I've tried the chicken a few times, but stopped, because it was almost always well overcooked and dry. The reason I've continued to come back was the ribs. When I first started ordering (probably around the end of 2014), the ribs were generally excellent, fall of the bone succulent. For the past few months, the quality of my precious ribs have been going down hill. At first, it was every now and again they would arrive well overcooked. For the past month now, I'm *lucky* if they are not burnt, to the point where most of the meat is charcoaled and ashen, completely disappointing. It seems like Saturday nights are the only time I order now where the meals meet the standards originally set. Tonight, I ordered my usual meal, and it was the *worst* rack of ribs I've ever seen. The only part that was passable as edible was the meat directly between the bones, even that was tough. The rest of the meat was so burnt, I wouldn't feed it to my dog. On top of that, the meal used to always come with a cup of sauce for dipping, but lately has only shown up sporadically. I specifically requested it tonight when I ordered, and it did not come. I called back to A Qunita to inform them, and they kindly offered to resend my meal. About 30-45 minutes later, it arrived. Except they only sent a rack of ribs, without any BBQ sauce on them, or fries, or the sauce I requested. I have not once been sent a rack of ribs without BBQ sauce on them from this establishment, I can only assume it was out of spite. To summarize, I ordered a rack of ribs, with french fries, specifically requesting the sauce that has always come with the meal. I received: no sauce, french fries and an inedible rack of ribs. After calling in, I then waited another 30-45 minutes to receive only ribs, sans BBQ sauce. Very disappointing trend for a regular. read more

I live in the neighborhood and this is my take out/fast food "fix". It is definitely better than MacD. Ok, seriously, the food tastes really good. I usually get chicken take out combo. Half or quarter with white rice, fries and salad. Salad is always fresh- lettuce with onions, tomatoes and olives. Rice is white rice with peas occasionally and always well cooked. Fries are good too. Not too crispy and I like it that way. Chicken is always nicely done. Very tasty. I don't know what they put in it but it's good! Ive been to this place many times and over the past year or so and unfortunately the sizes have gotten smaller. Their prices are good however, they have gone up. Pricing is a big issues I have with this place. I used to see a special advertised outside, walk in and see different price written on the menu board for the same thing and get charged 3rd, usually highest, price (Their prices for chicken combo takeout are in $9-13 range). I have experienced price discrepancies at this place probably over half a dozen times. Also, different staff would charge me different prices for the same thing. So much that I have stopped going for a while. I'm back to going there occasionally. I call it my crack place- all the white rice and fries can leave me feeling comatosed a bit but I can't help myself from stopping lol. Also, chicken is done very nicely. And I practically live across the street so it's hard to resist. Another thing service wise, it happened to me several times that I would get soft drink with the take out, get home and realized that it was not in the package. Or I ask for straw or plastic cutlery and they forget to put it in. It should be automatically added to the takeout package. So, overall food is okay but the service is lacking. Please train your staff properly and get the logistical side more organized, you have been in business long enough to have these under your belt! read more
