Absolutely no part of this experience was something to write home about. A beautiful location, but the longest wait times for literally everything, very limited food selections for gluten free/celiac, and besides our waitress, a staff that seems to prefer to forget you. I wish this had been better, but I wish I'd read up on it before visiting.

Came here to celebrate a bachelorette. unfortunately we booked first with the Terrasse William Gray and they "lost" our reservations. They did set us up in the back corner so we had lots of room. We had a prefix menu at $80 - that was set on the table as we got there so that was great. We were pleasantly to greeted and sat. I did find that our beverage orders did take quite a while to be taken and then another 20 minutes before actually arriving. As much as they were meticulous with the cleanliness of the table, I feel the follow up for drinks while we waited for our food should've been more frequent. Had it been more frequent? We probably would've ordered more beverages while we waited for our food. Once our food finally did arrive it wouldn't say it was anything outstanding nothing memorable that makes me feel like I'd like to come back. My highlight of this whole experience was the one espresso martini I was able to have.

We stopped at Maggie Oakes for drinks and the ambiance, selection and service were excellent. The bartender was very friendly and engaging. The selection of drinks was very good and the mixology used to prepare them was outstanding. Very delicious drinks at reasonable prices. This is the bar/restaurant of a hotel so the ambiance is chic and it does cater to both locals and tourists. It's located right on Place Jacques Cartier, so it's easy to find.

Great service, food and ambiance ! They are known for their aged steaks which are prominently displayed. It's in a great location in the downtown and within a nice hotel. The steaks were delicious and done right. The atmosphere was delightful and vibrant. All the staff were great and accommodating. Solid 4-4.5 stars

Located in the Hotel William Gray, this place served up a delicious brunch! We almost didn't go here based on the low Yelp ratings but it was raining and we wanted a cozy meal without wandering too far. They have St Viatuer sesame bagels! Great alternative if you don't want to trek across town for the famous Montreal bagels. We also had the lobster and shrimp sandwiched on a brioche toasted bun. We enjoyed it so much that we returned later for drinks and a charcuterie board before our evening show.

We almost didn't go to Maggie Oakes due to the low Yelp rating but we had been traveling all day and it was close to our hotel, so we rolled the dice. We were very pleasantly surprised! I ordered the avocado toast and it was delicious. We went at 3pm, so there was only one other table of people the whole time we were there. Our server did an ok job up until we asked for our bill and he stopped by the other table and went back and forth through the restaurant several times before bringing it. Other than that, our lunch was good and we'd give it another try.

Amid the stroll along Place Jacques Cartier lies this charming, spacious, well-appointed and luxe restaurant, with a grand interior and delectable options. Maggie Oakes is a ground floor space. (Its sister spaces are the Terrasse William Gray, and Perché, both situated upstairs for Old Port viewing.) Oakes has huge cuts of beef on display in its refrigerated units, and also has seafood and vegetarian options. The drinks list is excellent. We enjoyed our meals, bar drinks, and comfortable surroundings. Highly recommended.

Absolutely phenomenal food and service. Our waiter was very tentative to us when we were dining. He asked for example oh did he give you the lemon water for when you're done with the lobster? And to top things off the food, the lobster and sirloin steak was absolutely amazing. The sirloin literally cut like butter and the lobster was delicious with the sweet potato fries

Nice street side dining experience. Great service. The atmosphere was excellent. Loved the ability to people watch on the square.

The food was pretty good and they asked me all the gluten free questions and even brought gluten free bread. However, the waitress claimed they could make the steak sauce gluten free and I believed her. Walking back from the restaurant I got SO sick. So maybe just avoid the steak sauce, even if they say it's gluten free. It was our anniversary and they gave us free dessert, and the Caesar salad was great. But man did I get sick from that steak sauce.

Montreal is just amazing. It was a busy time and they got us seated immediately. Our server made great recommendations. My drink was refreshing and the views made it better. We sat outside but inside was lovely because it's of course associated with the a beautiful hotel. I ordered the tuna tartare, I enjoyed it but not the best I've had, didn't take away from my experience. Montreal is simply a great experience and this was definitely a part of it.

Upscale space that belongs to the hotel above it. I came here for drinks and appetizers in the evening. It's great for people watching. They have a pretty large space out front with a restaurant inside as well. I would say maybe 12 tables out front where I sat. The wait staff speaks both French and English and are knowledgeable and helpful. They gave us recommendations for what drinks we should try and I liked my gin cocktail my mom had the spicy margarita which was also delicious. We tried the cheese nougat (comes as a goat cheese slab) and the tuna tartare. Everything was very prettily presented with garnishes and they are generous with offering bread which tastes like it is fresh and comes warm. It was close to $100 CAD for these items. I would definitely come back

Service was phenomenal and our waiter checked in frequently with us. The food was absolutely immaculate. My favorite starter was the salmon crudo. For the main, two people carried out a mouth dropping spread of tiger shrimp, scallops, grilled octopus, lobster, lamb chops and a tomahawk. More than enough food for the 6 and everything was cooked perfectly- octopus wasn't chewy and the meats were super flavorful and tender. They were very accommodating to dietary restrictions as well. They had a DJ and lively atmosphere after dinner so we stayed and got bottle service. Fun spot with great food is always a winner in my eyes. Then our appetizer (oysters) arrived but our wine did not. After we watched the adjoining table who arrived after us received their drinks and entrees (but no silverware), I waved down first a busboy and then the maître d', we finally received our warm Sauvignon Blanc that I can only imagine had been sitting at the bar for quite some time. After we finished our wine and our entrees had still not arrived, we asked for the check explaining that we didn't care to wait any longer but instead, after another wait, they brought us our meal. The food was overcooked and barely warm - likely from the extended time under a headlamp and the salad was okay but nothing you couldn't get anywhere else. Given, Place Jacques-Cartier is a tourist spot but this was some of the worst service I have ever experienced at this price point.

The steak was slightly over cooked and grisly, but I could have overlooked that if they had any seasoning. My wife asked if that was the way they do it, but any salt and pepper would have moved the dish to 3 or maybe 4 stars. My wife's lobster pasta dish again, looked great, but she took a few bites and pushed it away. Service was fine for a tourist area, but certainly not finer dining.

We were fortunate enough to have Alex as our server, and he truly elevated the entire experience. He was knowledgeable, personable, and did an excellent job walking us through the menu and offering recommendations and specials. After hearing his suggestions, I decided on the Snow Crab Cluster paired with a Sirloin, baked potato, and a side of whisky peppercorn sauce. It was a fantastic choice. The steak was cooked perfectly to my liking, the crab was fresh and flavorful, and the whisky peppercorn sauce tied the steak together beautifully. The drinks were equally impressive, and the wine pours were generous enough that I definitely felt I was getting good value. What stood out most, however, was the service. We ordered the Paloma mocktail which was extra tasty. Starters were the brioche bread that was baked with a crispy top and the herb butter paired very nice. We also got the asparagus and scallops. I was thinking it would be the whole scallop, but it was cut into little pieces and put on top of the asparagus. For the entrees we got the filet and another steak I can't remember the name?? The filet was cooked to absolute perfection, crispy on the inside and so tender and soft on the inside. We got one of each of the sauces as well as the sides. The butter sauce was my favorite. Pics and reviews looked great, so we made plans to dine here during our penultimate night in the city. Barroco is located in Old Montreal, right on Rue Saint-Paul. The exterior has really charming curb appeal, and upon entry we were greeted by the same. This isn't a large restaurant, arranged with tables and a few booths throughout the space and a bar on the back wall that serves as a focal point. The vibes were on - the restaurant was tastefully decorated with a mix of old-fashioned fixtures, stone walls, and earth tones. The restaurant was quite lively - the vibes were on. Their drink menu is quite creative; we actually started our evening at the bar while we were waiting for our table and the bartender made some great suggestions - both cocktails I had were really good. The food menu is mostly French inspired; it wasn't extensive but they had a good variety of creative dishes. We decided on two starters - the brioche and the octopus salad. The brioche was fine, it came as one roll with a side of seasoned butter. It was a little on the dry side, and the butter wasn't very flavorful. The octopus salad was much better; the octopus was sliced and arranged on top of a ratatouille which provided a good complement of flavors and textures. For my main I got the OG braised beef. The beef was almost pot-roast style, seasoned with maple and aged balsamic sauce and paired with truffled celery root purée. This was delicious - the beef was super tender, and the sauce provided great flavor. The puree was an awesome side - the entire trip was super comforting and familiar while also being new and interesting. We decided to get two desserts - the madeleines and the olive oil cake. The former were baked fresh and came with a side of chocolate pudding and salted caramel, while the latter came with whipped cream and coached pears. Both were good, but I preferred the madeleines; the warm sponge paired with the chocolate and caramel was a great finisher to the meal. Service was great - everyone from the host to the bartender to our waiter made us feel welcome; they definitely elevated the experience. Overall, I had a great time at Barroco; the food, vibes, and service were all on point. I would definitely consider returning the next time I'm in Montreal.
