Great service, food and ambiance ! They are known for their aged steaks which are prominently displayed. It's in a great location in the downtown and within a nice hotel. The steaks were delicious and done right. The atmosphere was delightful and vibrant. All the staff were great and accommodating. Solid 4-4.5 stars

Located in the Hotel William Gray, this place served up a delicious brunch! We almost didn't go here based on the low Yelp ratings but it was raining and we wanted a cozy meal without wandering too far. They have St Viatuer sesame bagels! Great alternative if you don't want to trek across town for the famous Montreal bagels. We also had the lobster and shrimp sandwiched on a brioche toasted bun. We enjoyed it so much that we returned later for drinks and a charcuterie board before our evening show.

We almost didn't go to Maggie Oakes due to the low Yelp rating but we had been traveling all day and it was close to our hotel, so we rolled the dice. We were very pleasantly surprised! I ordered the avocado toast and it was delicious. We went at 3pm, so there was only one other table of people the whole time we were there. Our server did an ok job up until we asked for our bill and he stopped by the other table and went back and forth through the restaurant several times before bringing it. Other than that, our lunch was good and we'd give it another try.

Amid the stroll along Place Jacques Cartier lies this charming, spacious, well-appointed and luxe restaurant, with a grand interior and delectable options. Maggie Oakes is a ground floor space. (Its sister spaces are the Terrasse William Gray, and Perché, both situated upstairs for Old Port viewing.) Oakes has huge cuts of beef on display in its refrigerated units, and also has seafood and vegetarian options. The drinks list is excellent. We enjoyed our meals, bar drinks, and comfortable surroundings. Highly recommended.

Absolutely phenomenal food and service. Our waiter was very tentative to us when we were dining. He asked for example oh did he give you the lemon water for when you're done with the lobster? And to top things off the food, the lobster and sirloin steak was absolutely amazing. The sirloin literally cut like butter and the lobster was delicious with the sweet potato fries

Nice street side dining experience. Great service. The atmosphere was excellent. Loved the ability to people watch on the square.

The food was pretty good and they asked me all the gluten free questions and even brought gluten free bread. However, the waitress claimed they could make the steak sauce gluten free and I believed her. Walking back from the restaurant I got SO sick. So maybe just avoid the steak sauce, even if they say it's gluten free. It was our anniversary and they gave us free dessert, and the Caesar salad was great. But man did I get sick from that steak sauce.

Great location Good ambience We ordered the oysters and cheese plate Plate lacked a little variety of jams But the oysters were nice and fresh and probably the best we had on the trip I gave it a 4/5 because of the jams and the service I felt the cheese board in general could have been more thoughtful And the service could have been better.

Montreal is just amazing. It was a busy time and they got us seated immediately. Our server made great recommendations. My drink was refreshing and the views made it better. We sat outside but inside was lovely because it's of course associated with the a beautiful hotel. I ordered the tuna tartare, I enjoyed it but not the best I've had, didn't take away from my experience. Montreal is simply a great experience and this was definitely a part of it.

Upscale space that belongs to the hotel above it. I came here for drinks and appetizers in the evening. It's great for people watching. They have a pretty large space out front with a restaurant inside as well. I would say maybe 12 tables out front where I sat. The wait staff speaks both French and English and are knowledgeable and helpful. They gave us recommendations for what drinks we should try and I liked my gin cocktail my mom had the spicy margarita which was also delicious. We tried the cheese nougat (comes as a goat cheese slab) and the tuna tartare. Everything was very prettily presented with garnishes and they are generous with offering bread which tastes like it is fresh and comes warm. It was close to $100 CAD for these items. I would definitely come back

Absolutely love this place. My friend order a turkey and avocado sandwich on a croissant which was amazing! I had a very well cooked burger and a delicious margarita! We were able to snag a wonderful table outside which allowed us to watch the throngs of people walking around.

While the food was delicious, the overall experience fell just slightly short of what I would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. Service was the main area that didn't quite meet expectations. After being seated, we waited about 10 minutes before receiving menus and had to ask for them. Throughout the meal, interactions felt a bit rushed - several staff members who stopped by the table were somewhat brief, and on a few occasions, items like bread or water were dropped off while we tried to ask questions, but the busser had already walked away. That said, the restaurant was quite busy during lunch, so it's possible the pace and attentiveness were impacted by that. As for the food, we ordered the albacore tuna appetizer along with the strip loin, butcher's cut, and duck for our mains. Everything was well-prepared, though the duck portion was noticeably small. Desserts were a highlight - especially the pavlova with maracuya, which was excellent. Our server Laura was professional, though not very engaging until the very end of the meal when we were settling the bill. I would still return, as the food is strong, but I have to say that Bar George left a more lasting impression on us in terms of both food and service.

Our server was really good and the food was really good. We tried the non-alcoholic guava mule. The guava was nice and sweet and complimented the spicy of the ginger beer. We ordered a French onion soup, steak Diane, and a beef Wellington. The entrees came with choice of salad. We tried one of each , house Gibby salad and the blue cheese wedge. This was a lot of food for us. The French onion soup was my favorite, good flavor, lots of onions and that nice browned cheese top. Both salads were good, the house salad was a little lighter since the blue cheese wedge salad had a rich blue cheese dressing and bacon bits on top. The steak and beef Wellington was also good. In general, we ordered medium rare, it was a little bit rarer than I expected but not I'd edible. So something to think about if you need your meat to be cooked more. The prices seemed fair for a steakhouse and for the amount of food we ate.

Now to the food: we got a variety of oysters, all of which were delicious!! I coulda had a second round, but my date loves escargot so we did that instead -- extremely rich but always tasty. From there we went straight into entrees, I got the duck breast which was tender and lovely! So filling, so delicious. But my date chose even better with the rabbit. Omg. We were lucky enough to grab a last-minute reservation, and Julien took a good care of us throughout the evening. His recommendation of the Beef Wellington was spot on (it's already one of our favorite dishes), but this was hands down the best we've ever had. I ordered the lobster risotto, which was excellent with just the right amount of spice. My son had the 10 oz striploin steak with homemade fries (chips), and it was absolutely delicious. I also loved the Canadian touch of coarse salt on the steak, plus the option to choose between Béarnaise or peppercorn sauce. Julien also mentioned their pastry chef placed second in a NY competition, and the desserts absolutely lived up to that reputation. We tried the pineapple and coconut pavlova and the "lick me hazelnut" ~ both beautifully presented and incredibly delicious. We also ordered iced coffee and a latte, and noticed something interesting: this was the second place where we found Canadian coffee to be smooth and mild ~ such a nice change from the often bitter, over-roasted American coffee. Yes, dinner was a bit steep ($300+), but it was worth every penny. Between the rich history, stunning design, outstanding service, and unique cuisine, I would highly recommend Bar George. One order comes with 4 spoon servings, by the way. Add the soy ginger sauce because it cuts the fattiness just right. Oh là là! Decadent, smooth and buttery. Why don't more places serve foie gras like this? Genius! We got the pork chop, paparadelle pork ragu and a side of the salt and maple sugar fries. All were good, but the foie gras still had them beat. The fries had nice flavor, but we were really disappointed that we got the tail end of the fry basket. The bottom and middle of our order was all the broken bits. I felt a bit deceived. We got the pudding chomeur that people said was a classic dessert with a scoop of ice cream.
