Bar George is a stunning contemporary British restaurant located in Montreal's historic Le Mount Stephen. While the restaurant is highly celebrated and located within a Michelin-recognized hotel building, it does not hold a Michelin star of its own. But it is extremely classy. We decided to do lunch instead of dinner and it was a little more our speed, but if very, very attentive waitstaff is not your thing and $200 for lunch I'd skip this spot. We went because it had reviews for amazing beef Wellington and my husband hadn't had any in decades. And we were on vacation so let's go! The food was beautifully plated and service was impeccable inside of an amazingly decorated dining room that looked like a library in a mansion. The meals themselves weren't obscenely expensive but add a glass a wine, bread (it was not included) and coffee and it put us close to $200. But it was a great experience and I had never had beef Wellington - it was melt in your mouth good. Might go again next time we come up from CT.

Amazing birthday experience with friends! I came here four years ago and I didn't want to come back to Montreal without coming to Bar George! This time I came with friends! They LOVED IT! Said it may have been the best restaurant experience they ever had. Would certainly come back. The food is amazing the staff is friendly and welcoming and I'm absolutely in love with the look and design of the restaurant itself. It's incredibly classy and beautifully designed but doesn't feel pretentious or unwelcoming in any way! Would highly recommend Bar George and I would never consider coming back to Montreal and NOT Stopping by! Thank you for everything!

Overall, I really enjoyed the food, ambience, and service here. We ordered the Beef Wellington and Striploin. The Wellington was very tender and tasted good. The Striploin could have been a bit more tender but the sauce that came with it was very tasty. We also had the fries which were good and the rapinin which was ok. The service was quick and fairly good. We also enjoyed a bottle of French red to go with dinner which was great. The prices are on the high end. The ambience was nice and overall, a nice change up from our usually go-to of french bistros when we visit Montreal.

The architecture is old world craftsmanship at its best The service is perfect with each custom crafted cocktail The bass heavy dj does detract from what could be a more elegant experience

This was one of the best dinners we had in Montreal!!! It's located in a hotel so when we went looking for it, we had totally missed it and had to walk back. We got the: 1) beef Wellington: pastry-wrapped filet mignon, mushroom duxelles, prosciutto, parsnip purée, asparagus, Quebec gel, green peppercorn sauce 2) chicken roulade: truffle potato pavé, king oyster mushroom, creamy sauce Périgueux Both meals were phenomenal!! The beef Wellington was the best I've ever had. The chicken roulade was so tender. Service was amazing! Vibes were on point. As the night progressed we noticed it getting progressively busier with a bouncer at the door LOLL with that being said, make a resy!

We actually ate at Bar George 3 times during our stay at Le Mount Stephen. We already had dinner reservations, but we also had bar bites as our room was being prepared and breakfast the next morning before we headed out to Quebec City. All of the food and drinks we had were very good but my favorite dish was the chicken roulade. It was seasoned well and plated beautifully. The bar and restaurant are warm and inviting. Service is relaxed and on the slow side, so if you are in a hurry you might want to mention that to your server. We enjoyed the slow paced meals since we weren't on a specific time line.

Came here for a work event and it did not disappoint. It was crazy $$$$ but likely due to F1 week. But staff was amazing at what they did and the place is like walking back in time to a super boutique hotel. The food was great and the finishes inside are amazing if u like old school decor. This place would be perfect for those special occasions as it's done up properly.

There are so many good things I have to say about this place. I will start with; there is a reason it's always full and it's worth the wait. The architecture of the building is timeless and beautiful - go to the bar and the restaurant and if you can take a look at the hotel. The ambiance is warm and inviting BUT Canadians and everything in Montreal just BE that way naturally - especially compared to New York...so let's skip the obvious and move to the important part... The drinks and food are simply stated; IMPECCABLE. Starting with the oysters, super fresh and incredible. There is fresh scotch bonnet sauce that was one of the highlights of my meal. It has a high Scoville score and isn't for the faint of heart. It's punchy and bright - with a colorful island forward flavor. I was literally pouring it on everything I could. Try it if you love spice. It's so amazing. The only reason I think the chef hasn't bottled it is because he hasn't fallen prey to American capitalism. That sauce would FLY OFF OF SHELVES. It needs to be on hot ones as one of sauces that kicks you in the ass but still has amazing flavor. The truffle gnocchi was artfully made; equally light and pretty filling without being heavy. I suggest getting the bread with it so you can soak up all of the sauce. I literally struggled to maintain composure and not lick the sauce off of the plate. The BG salad was perfectly dressed. The octopus is fresh and unexpected and the crudo has a coconut forward refreshing flavor. You can tell there is a Mauritian influence in the food that brightens everything up and gives the meal this unique tropical edge. Onto dress code...there technically is not one - but this is for the cute girlies with love. Don't wear anything tight. I inhaled this food and Unfortunately for me, I wore a corset to dinner which I almost busted open. For much of the dinner I was really focused on not actually exploding because I didn't want the constriction to stop my enjoyment. I even had to lean back in my chair like a 19th century Victorian monarch who couldn't breathe following tight lacing...think Bridgerton meets Kirby. I learned my lesson and will definitely be back with more food appropriate attire next time. Something flowy perhaps. Maybe even a bib... Thank you chef Kevin and team for an amazing experience!

The server seated us without warning, and when we went to order, each item we requested had run out. No Cuban, no chicken melt, no several other delicious sounding things. She gave us 10 more minutes to look over the menu and come up with a plan B. Truthfully I wanted to jump ship, but couldn't because our drink orders were already in, and I was captain of this gastronomic journey. We'd set sail without proper forecasting! We settled on the baked egg and salmon bowl, neither what we were exactly craving. The baked egg was fairly tasty, a shakshouka-esque experience accompanied by rustic bread for hasty dipping. The salmon bowl was excellent, with delicious dressing, but the salmon portion was oh-so-meager. It made me wonder if the lunch rush had given the kitchen such a beating that they had split my salmon filet in half and served it to me and my neighboring table friend. Check out my photo and tell me if that portion seems right? The lore says Michael Jordan worked his rear off every game because he always told himself there was probably at least one kid in the stands who came there to see THE Michael Jordan. Well this kid in the stands caught Olive et Gourmando taking the night off. There is a risk for peril if you choose this restaurant, especially if you are in Montréal for a limited time!

This place deserves a review and it deserves positive recognition. They are versatile in their offerings, and healthy but not overdoing it. The decor looks grunge and vintage and opulent, but those salads come out looking top class. The wait staff are empathic and attentive to a variety of needs. Nobody seems mad about working there. I would assume many were customers first and then realized that this would be a chill place to eat. With my progeny, I almost made the mistake of eating in the Old Port. I mean, maybe chocolate crepes for dinner would have been more consumed than the healthier cheese and chicken alternatives at Chez Jose, but the relaxing vibe, and wholesomeness of it all, made me so relieved that I didn't settle for a tourist trap. The bread, with butter, is really yummy. It's white bread basically but it's so good. And the orange soup was outstanding.

I went a long time ago, back in 2021, and I was so happy to have gone again since they relocated to Old Montreal. The exterior is this new building, but inside, it feels like you're in an old building with rustic textures and colours. The ambiance is so lovely and it truly is the best place for delicious brunch items and taking cute pictures too! My friends and I visited on a Saturday morning without reservations, but we went relatively earlier. We were seated right away for a table of 4 and were served teas and coffee. I ordered the Bone Marrow & Duck Confit which consisted of a country-style bread, duck poached egg, bone marrow, confict duck leg, manchego shavings, herb salted crumble and green peas. It's a massive dish and honestly everything tasted amazing all together. The bone marrow was perfectly cooked and the duck poached egg meld everything together. They also give you another bowl so you can put the marrow once you're done eating it. The bread was needed to soak up every part of this delicious dish. Other items ordered was the Foie Gras (Chef's specialty) which had brioche bread, duck poached egg, caramelized onion compote and crispy proscuitto chips. The chips were a wonderful item to pair with the seared foie gras. The foie gras was perfectly cooked. The Rustic is another fan favourite which had brioche bread, duck poached egg, sautéed mushrooms. pulled pork, potatoes and argula sprouts. it is such a beautiful dish - nice colours, many ingredients and placed well on the plate; not to mention it was so good too! The last item was the Croque Monsieur which has country-style bread, maple-glaed Gaspor acon, confit tomatoes, cheddar, duck sunny side-up egg on an endive salad. You can't pick it up and munch on it, so you know how big this must have been! Even cut into pieces, it requires some maneuvering to munch on it. Great place for brunch. Awesome service too. I would highly recommend this spot if you're looking for a brunch spot!
