I was really excited to visit Maison St. Paul after reading fantastic reviews and seeing their enticing menu. Unfortunately, when I arrived, I found a notice on the door indicating that the restaurant was currently closed, even though it was supposed to open at 5 PM according to Yelp. I understand these things happen, and I appreciate their communication. I'm looking forward to dining here in the future and will update my review once I have the chance to experience it properly. Still dreaming of my dinner here! Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish. We came with a group for their F1 Grand Prix price fixe as it was more reasonable than others. Service was phenomenal and our waiter checked in frequently with us. The food was absolutely immaculate. My favorite starter was the salmon crudo. For the main, two people carried out a mouth dropping spread of tiger shrimp, scallops, grilled octopus, lobster, lamb chops and a tomahawk. More than enough food for the 6 and everything was cooked perfectly- octopus wasn't chewy and the meats were super flavorful and tender. They were very accommodating to dietary restrictions as well. They had a DJ and lively atmosphere after dinner so we stayed and got bottle service. Fun spot with great food is always a winner in my eyes. On our last night in Montreal, I luckily came across Maison Sain-Paul (and I am so glad I did). Everything was perfect from the food (thank you to the chef), to the SUPERB service (thank you to Sandrine, Jonathan, and the bartender (I'm sorry, I never got your name)), and the gorgeous ambiance. I wish I could've tried everything on the menu, but my favorites were the Grilled Octopus, The Lobster and Harissa Tagliatelles, Black Tiger Shrimps, and for dessert the Belle de Brillet! My experience here was nothing short of amazing. It was the perfect place to celebrate the end of a successful event and to host some clients. It was later in the evening so we had the place mostly to ourselves. We did a pre-set menu which allowed us to try a variety of items. My favourite and most impressive was the french onion soup topped with bone marrow (see pics!). Their extensive champagne & bubbles list is impressive and so fun to read through! What's great is I was taught to sabre my champagne bottle! You can make a wish & drop the cork into their wall. Visited La Champagnerie on Saturday with two friends. Loved the vibe, very Vieux Port authentic brick with mood lighting. Warm and welcoming. We started with beer, and charcuterie/cheese plates. Delicious and a nice start to the meal. We ordered the brisket, which was amazing, the risotto, which was perfect and delicious, and a special they had for the evening, 5 oz filet with half a lobster. My friend who had that devoured it, so happy. We ordered a bottle of sparkling wine to Sabre. This was a cool experience! Highly recommend, just a fun thing to do at dinner! The service was spot on. I live for the nights that I can't remember with the people that I won't forget. La Champagnerie had my friends and I needing sunglasses and advil the next day but that didn't stop us from repeating our experience two nights in a row. Both nights the food was absolutely amazing but I have to admit that I loved the music and DJ more on Friday night (hip hop/reggae) than I did on Saturday night (dance/top 100's). This is a one stop shop. We came for dinner and stayed for the party. Our waitress allowed us to stay at our table after we finished dinner because we purchased bottle service but I did notice that other parties were asked to move after dinner if they weren't purchasing bottle service. The highlight of the night was the food and watching one of my girlfriends saber the champagne bottle. I'm so glad we waited until they opened at 5 to go here! It was a great experience all-around. My husband got to learn how to saber a champagne bottle, and did it perfectly with the right instructions. It was so fun to watch and to learn about! We got the house cava, and it was very good. Champagne isn't the only thing worth stopping for, however. Our waiter suggested the octopus, and it was absolutely delectable. He described how they marinated and brined it to make it tender, and then charred it on the grill a bit. It was like eating an expensive steak or something - so tender, delicious, and perfectly cooked. We also shared a charcuterie plate as another little snack, and it was good. This was my first experience at a Champagne Bar, and it was fun! Definitely be prepared to drop some dough, though, as the bottles of bubbly are not cheap. We made our way to La Champagnerie at the end of a long day of exploring the city, myself and my family. One of the main draws of this place is that they open bottles with a sabre! Yes, its pretty dang cool. You can actually have a quick tutorial and open your own bottle. The sabre breaks the top of the bottle clean off, and you drink away :) I doubt I would come here for a meal, but as an after work spot for a drink or an upscale outing, definitely. read more

While i'm obviously a huge fan of the concept as well as the amazing champagne choices, there' s however some troubling matters. Location: top! Right in front of the bonsecours market Prices: high but relatively similar to the whole old montreal. So, that's an average. Wine list: Amazing! I'll have to come back to see how it evolves and how often it changes but overall great selection. Food: weirdly not adapted to champagne. I know that champagne is supposedly able to pair with anything. However, there's still some very difficult element in food and wine pairings that i would've expected to be excluded or at least not put forward. What an amazing experience! I loved everything we ordered. We got the burrata, charcuterie, onion soup, beef carpaccio and they even made a filet mignon with grilled veggies just for me! I loved the ambiance of this little bar. Apparently it turns into a club after hours, couldn't experience that but it seemed fun! Our waitress was so helpful and friendly, she patiently explained every dish and gave some suggestions on the bubbly drink. They also teach you how to cut a bottle open with a huge knife-sword type of thing (like Cameron Diaz)! I saw a couple of people doing it, amazing! Came here for a bachelorette party with some friends. Our waitress was very helpful in explaining how to sabrer the champagner bottle and how to choose one according to our taste. She was friendly and attentive and that's a big plus, especially for first timers. As for the food, I took the curry shrimps as an appetizer and the asian ribs as a main meal. The shrimps were delicious and the sauce was very flavorful, but it was a bit pricey for 3 shrimps (18$). The ribs were tender and soft and nicely marinated. However, it was clearly written that it came with mashed potatoes but ours came with some kind of coleslaw mix. It wasn't bad but it's not what I was expecting. The portion was huge and I couldn't finish it. As for the location, it's in the heart of old montreal so it's accessible and close to the crowds during summer. Wow. Talk about a SCAM. The only thing worthwhile about this place is the lighting, limited AND overpriced selection of overpriced champagne, and their ability to create a chaotic and miserable experience. We had a party of 7 for dinner as part of a bachelorette party; I get most menus are online now but it took a solid 20 mins to get menus and order. Multiple people ordered vodka sodas and were consistently served the wrong drink. It took an hour to get our first round of drinks and probably about another 30 minutes to get our second one, which was again, wrong!! The food was a bit below average (especially for the price), honestly you'd kind of expect it in a place like this - it is definitely a tourist trap, but maybe they should stick to some basics? The tiger shrimp was really only thing worthwhile. Requests were made for extra sauce, etc multiple times with no delivery and when plates were cleared a fork fell on a person in our group. Also, the AC was out and I understand that's beyond anyone's control so I won't knock them for that. I will knock them for sending over sugar-water shots to apologize for the AC being out at the tail end of our unnecessarily long dinner. The entire experience was absolutely infuriating! Management tried to blame the long waits and disappointing experience on us - falsely claiming we had ordered champagne and changed our mind (not true). The server also strangely insisted on 7 separate bills after we asked for one bill multiple times and then proceeded to give us two different single bills each with a different price. My girlfriend and I were referred to Champagnerie by a friend who lives in Canada and we visited around 6:00 PM on a Saturday night. We could see that it was getting crowded, but got seats at the bar where we were promptly greeted by Antoine who spoke perfect English. He was so warm and welcoming and gave us a history lesson on the champagne making process and about the various characteristics of the champagne being served by the glass that night. We had a few tastes first and decided on two different champagnes. Both were just perfect to our tastes. The .enu had so many great choices and Antoine decried them to us . I decided on the car binary labeled as lemon spaghetti with little bits of duck breast. It was spectacular. My girlfriend had the lobster tacos and she us not a big lobster fan, but could not get enough of them. We also met Simon with whom Antoine worked with in the past and he, too was just a great guy to talk with. Everyone was warm and helpful and this made our trip a true "Experience." This is a great place for a special night, there was a huge bachelorette party celebrating the night my friends and I went. They, obviously, have an incredible selection of champagne, and the waitresses are knowledgeable in providing suggestions, if you don't know much about champagne. The price of the bottles ranges from $50-$1600. They also have food, we tried oysters and the poutine (foie gras, lobster, filet mignon). These items were very good. But it should be warned that the food in general is quite expensive, although quite decadent. I definitely would recommend this place for a fun and special night. I came to Montreal with a bunch of friends for dance. This spot was very close to the Montreal is Kizomba festival location at Marche Bonsecours. I ate poutine everyday in this area of Montreal for the first time and this place had my favorite. My friends and I ordered the poutine with filet mignon, lobster, and pate - I have no words for how good it was. I was so stuffed from all the other wonderful food we ordered but I still could not stop eating this poutine until it was completely gone. My friends took a lot of documentation of my love for poutine on this trip. I hope to come back to Montreal to eat more poutine since apparently the best poutine is a bit farther from where we were staying in Old Montreal, but so far this place was my favorite. The Champagne: One of the reasons I selected this restaurant was because of their champagne selection and the fact that you get to saber your own bottles. We picked a large format bottle for our group which the bride got to saber! The waitress Erika was super helpful in teaching our bride how to saber and made sure to tell our group to take photos of this fun event! The Food: Taste of Montreal was going on during our trip so we were given a 3 course meal with various options rather than the full menu. All of the food was delicious, although I wish we could have gotten to eat from the full menu. Cost per person was $31 though which was super affordable for a 3 course meal! The DJ was also playing awesome music during the meal which kept the vibe fun! The Service: Our waitress Erika was phenomenal. She was so friendly, so helpful, and so accommodating. She paid special attention to the bride and even kept serving us once our meal was over and we moved onto the dancing part of the evening. She also opened a bottle of champagne with a champagne glass which was AWESOME. The Club: Another one of the neat parts of this place is that it turns into a club in the later hours. They move the tables aside, remove chairs and get the music pumping. Our group took over one section of the dance floor and had a blast dancing, drinking, and people watching. We got drinks both at the bar and through Erika who kept coming over to make sure we were okay! I visited La Champagnerie for the first time during the 2016 series of MTL à Table. I won't lie, it wasn't my first choice because the vegetarian option for the main meal was a bit iffy (because it contained sea urchins). I contacted the restaurant in advance by email in the hopes that there would be an alternative without seafood. I received an affirmative reply that something could be arranged, I brought along a friend who was interested to try something new, and off we went. I didn't know anything about the restaurant before visiting, so I went as a tabula rasa (blank slate). The first thing I noticed was a lot of Champagne corks, of corks this makes sense when "Champagne" is in the name, but interestingly these all had the muselets (wire cages) still attached. I later looked up the full name of the restaurant, "Bar à Sabrage" and learned that Sabrage is the technique of opening a Champagne bottle without removing the cork. Practitioners slide the blunt edge of a sabre along the side of the bottle, up to the the collar. The impact causes the collar to break off along with the cork and the muselet intact. While I didn't get a firsthand demonstration, I'm sure it would be fun to see at a subsequent visit. The theme was reinforced by the multitude of corks behind a transparent panel mounted on the wall. I began the meal with the special cocktail "Rye & W", recommended by our very charming and helpful server Gabrielle. They used a homemade root beer syrup along with apricot and smoked honey bitter to create a really unique drink. The menu options on offer for the MTL à Table series are luckily part of the regular menu, so I don't feel unfair in describing them here because anyone can try these for a regular meal. We began with the first service, Burrata with grilled peaches, pistachios, a red wine reduction, and roasted nut bread. Look through some of my other pictures and you'll see that I really love burrata, the Italian cheese made of a ball of Mozzarella (usually cow's milk fior di latte) filled with shredded Mozzarella and cream. It didn't disappoint. The vegetables and fruits provided a nice sweet and tangy counterpoint to the milkiness of the cheese. For the second service, my friend had the Chicken & Waffles and I had a custom vegetarian version of the spaghetti (now sans-urchin). The Chicken and Waffles came piled high one atop another, with deep-fried pickles, chives, bacon and bourbon, vanilla and truffle butter syrup. My friend and I were very impressed with the portion sizes. This was the fourth restaurant I visited during the series, and most offered quite small samplers of their dishes, but here we found ourselves hard pressed to finish the meal! I mentioned earlier how, in fairness, this wasn't my first choice. The main reason was that it was a little difficult to get a straight answer about the vegetarian option. I wasn't interested in just having the spaghetti dish WITHOUT the sea urchins, I was hoping there would be an actual alternative. Luckily, the chef empathized, he also didn't want to simply offer a subtraction, so instead he created a custom dish with lots of King Eryngii mushrooms, cherry and heirloom tomatoes, which was simply delicious. The photo doesn't do it justice. One more cocktail (:D) and it was time for dessert! Dessert consisted of the house standard "Sundae", comprising Fried Reese's Cups, caramel, bananas, chocolate, spicy nuts, a delicious pineapple reduction, ice cream, and Italian Amarena cherries. Wow! I'm usually leery of deep fried desserts because they often come out very oily and tasteless, however the sweet and salty chocolate peanut butter flavour of the Reese's Cups were wonderfully partnered with the breading, resulting in a flavour sensation! Amarena cherries are also one of my favourite accoutrements, bitter cherries soaked in super sweet syrup. The pineapple reduction tasted like the perfect pineapple flavour one hopes to get in the deepest yellow section of the fruit. Sweet, without bitterness, and just the hint of tartness so you remember it's still an acidic fruit. So all of this, with caramel, banana, spicy nuts, powdered sugar, and chocolate syrup to boot? I wish I could eat this every day! I really enjoyed the whole experience at La Champagnerie. The food was delicious and filling, the cocktails were creative, the design was beautiful, and the staff above all were just excellent. I'd like to give my sincere thanks to our server Gabrielle, who was a delight, always ready to offer suggestions and pleasant conversation. I'm sure I talked her ear off quite a bit :D. Just a review based on being there last night for a friend's birthday celebration. Lovely view of the Bonsecours market from the big front windows, valet parking, a cozy fancy red brick feeling inside punctuated by the occasional ceremonial lowering of the burlap, saber-wielding lesson, and the sound of bottles popping, people cheering. The music is fun, singalongable funky oldies, not trying too hard to be cool, and the crowd is a nice mix of ages all seeming joyful which is fun to be around. My friend arranged for some delicious meat and fig and cheese plates for us and I don't know what those cost but they sure were tasty. The waiter served us a glass of champagne and our food, then we never saw him again until he was ready to leave for the night and wanted his tip. On a last minute whim last Friday night, hubby and I made a reservation here for a late dinner date. After hearing from a friend that she didn't really like the place, I found myself wondering if we should cancel the reservation, but since we didn't have any other ideas on where to go we decided to take the chance and man am I glad we did! La Champagnerie is a beautiful and cozy champagne bar/restaurant nestled in the Old Port. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and quickly seated. A fast look around, we noticed that the place was buzzing with energy, a DJ was spinning great music, and the overall vibe was relaxed. We got our menus and our hostess Caroline was very kind throughout the night. She helped us choose an excellent bottle of champagne that suited our tastes perfectly and accompanied my husband as he 'sabered' the top off the bottle in a designated area of the restaurant which we thought was a really nice touch and a unique feature we had never seen at any other place. Walking us through the menu and the specials of the night, we ordered the Wagyu beef carpaccio to start, the mushroom risotto and pork chops as our mains, and the mars bar pastry for dessert. To tell you that every plate was ON POINT wouldn't be any exaggeration at all. The carpaccio was amazingly seasoned (albeit a little stingy on the meat at 3 slivers for $22) on a bed of noodles. The risotto was amazing but again on the smaller side. The pork chop dish was great and pretty large. I wasn't a huge fan of the dessert (too sweet for me) but my chocolate fanatic husband could've had 10 more so I think it was a hit! Overall, phenomenal atmosphere, service, and food. Would absolutely come back and recommend this place wholeheartedly. When we asked for the bill, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the price was SUPER reasonable and not that expensive (we didn't know how much any of our dishes cost in advance since they were all off menu except for dessert), so definitely a big thumbs up. We took my cousin here for the last night of her bachelorette and it was perfect! We came early and they very nicely accommodated us an hour earlier than our reservation. The restaurant was pretty empty save one other bachelorette party that was seated near the front. What was super awesome is that they teach you and then let you saber the bottle that you order! Though it took her a few tries to actually do it, my cousin loved it! To top it off, the fish tacos I ordered were soooo good! A lot of people we spoke to from our hotel concierge to our waiter at L'Epicier recomended we stop by La Champagnerie during our stay in Montreal for nightlife. First I thought that this place would be very dainty, lady like with the idea that this champagne bar was a classy sophisticated spot for some drinks and dancing. Our hotel concierge was able to get us a bottle service table a few hours before the lounge opened up for the evening. Upon arrival in -30 weather we waiting outside for a couple minutes before the bottle service organizer came and showed us our table. First impressions of this place: it is not as well decorated as I would've imagined. Its a lot more like any other resaurant that moves it's chairs and tables aside for Friday/Saturday night dancing. I wouldn't really even classify this as a lounge. The service is good and the crowd is friendly. We left our table to dance and felt comfortable that no one would try to take our bottle. Music is okay. Not a dance your pants off type of thing. It's a mix of everything, Top 40, throwback 90's music, RnB. Bottles started at about $180 and went up from there. read more

The DJ played electronic house music which wasn't great to dance too even after it supposedly turned into a club. The staff was super helpful - our bus-boy brought over 2 different champagnes he thought we might like and poured us generous "samples" of each to try! Our waitress was equally pleasant and attentive. The food was DELICIOUS. Our only mistake was ordering the small charcuterie plate to share - get the bigger one, the cured meats, pickles and mustard are so delicious that you'll want more of them. I had the Shepard's pie for dinner and it was amazing - strips of bavette in a cheese and potato sauce....small but so rich that it was perfectly sized...and reasonably priced! I ordered the ice cream sandwich for dessert - it was huge! That item is definitely best shared...it was so delicious that I still managed to eat most of it though.
