We went on weekday evening and it was somewhat quiet when we went in but filled up. It is a hip spot but not stuffy and they take food and service very seriously--my favorite kind of spot. We have young kids who behave pretty well and we didn't feel out of place. We had a bit of a wait between courses but nothing that soured us on experience. The food was absolutely delicious. Best meal I have had in recent years. Freshness. Flavors. Inventiveness. Really remarkable. Everything was so well presented that my kids tried all kinds of things they might never usually. I say this as a testament to how appetizing everything looked and tasted. Of course I loved it all too--haha. I would be a regular at this place if we lived in Montreal. Go there!

Welcome to night one in Montreal. With it's twinkly lights and street-facing al fresco seating, someone has turned Josephine into one of the more attractive offerings along this stretch of Rue Saint-Denis. I'd considered several other spots on the same stretch of road but Josephine got my vote. It felt very Parisian in its elegant simplicity. The kitchen here creates artful dishes. Sashimi Crudo was pretty as a painting and subtle in its flavors. A Grilled Artichoke was so lovely that it caused me to order up a side of Focaccia to mop up anything that might've otherwise been left on my plate. The service here is friendly and approachable which came as a bit of a welcome surprise in a place whose kitchen is clearly big league. As I left it was suggested that we'd certainly be back again but Montreal is a big city; maybe next time.

The lobster pasta was a disappointment, a bit too salty, no sauce. The lobster was fresh, though the dish could use some calamari too... It seemed to have one whole shelled lobster but it was way too little for that much pasta. We sat outside in the patio, which was good since inside the music was too loud and would have been difficult to have a conversation. Didn't have room for dessert, must go back :)

The dessert however was a bit pricey. I could get a better slice of cake from The Keg at that price. The environmental was alright. The drinks were off, the cosmo was sour and we could not finish the mai tai - yes it was that bad. Perhaps we should have to ease the pain. The appetizer arrived a little late but not terribly so - calamari which was good but it came with about 8 pieces -- a little small but at least it was good. Then we waited... and waited... and waited. Other tables that were sat after us, way after us, all received their food. It took about an hour -- one whole hour between the appetizer and entree. We got our food, fish and chips and mussels -- they were both acceptable so let's get that out of the way. The other two dishes were the braised beef and we asked that the fries be upgraded to a poutine and then a salad with chicken add on. The beef came with fries and not poutine, so they had to fix that. We tried the beef... it was salty, as salty as the dead sea. It was awful and inedible. We thought it was perhaps the sauce, but it was not as we tried to dig into the middle of the cut, but it was still salty. The poutine was salty as well but that might have been acceptable if the beef were not over salted. The adventure of the salad was not any better. Asked for the dressing on the side and the salad was covered in the dressing. It came without the chicken so they took it back. It came nearly 20 minutes later, after everyone else finished their entrees -- 20 minutes to prepare a fried chicken breast. Cannot tell you whether it was good or bad as we told them we would not take it. They did the right thing and did not charge us for this entree, but that was it, no other real apologies. Do not come here if you value your time or your money or your general sanity. Disappointing.

The chicken in both the fried rice and chow mein was undercooked, and the noodles were not properly cooked either. On top of that, the food left us feeling sick afterward. They proceeded to bring all appetizers out at once, followed by all entrees together. Therefore, things got cold and weren't as good as they could have been. Disappointing for such a highly priced place! My experience going later in the night with only 2 people was way better. Regardless, food was great. The Tarama was milder and not as salty-every restaurant/city has their own version of my favorite dip. Greek Salad was just like in Athens-so much Feta, Olives and no lettuce -delicious. Grilled Squid was sliced thinly and perfectly seasoned! Oh we also had to try the Mexican Jumbo Shrimp-jumbo they were and tasty. At this point, we should've stopped but we had to try an entree. We ordered the Mediterranean Sea Bream (for 2) which was just right for 3 of us given our endless appetizers. The table side carving and plating of the fish was a nice touch.
