You walk in and there's a clothing store on one side and black curtains straight ahead. I just stood there confused for a second until someone suddenly appeared and escorted me through the curtains, down a long dark hallway, and into this intimate, dimly lit bar. Turns out, I had accidentally stumbled into a speakeasy. The space is tiny--maybe 6-8 seats at the bar and a long banquet along the wall for 10-12 more people. No menus either. They ask what you like and don't like, then craft a cocktail specifically for you. The pours are generous and the bar is stocked with top-shelf liquor. About a drink and a half in, I realized I needed actual food immediately and had to leave. The staff was friendly, personable, and chatty, and because the space is so intimate, you naturally end up talking with the people around you. Definitely more of a solo or date-night spot than a group hang. Such a cool, unexpected experience.

I'm a fan of cocktail bars, and after reading up on this spot I made it my intention to check it out. It just so happened that it was a short walk from my hotel, so we decided to check it out one night before heading to dinner. The Cloakroom is a speakeasy, nestled behind a hidden door in a men's clothing shop. In the line of being a speakeasy, the space is small - there are only 24 seats but since we got there right at opening we were seated right away. The space is dark and intimate, with the bottles of liquor lit up behind the bar providing an attractive focal point. One of the more unique features of the bar is that there's no menu; we told our server the types of liquors we wanted along with the flavor notes and they crafted a cocktail based on our tastes. We ultimately had two rounds; my first drink was vodka-based and fruity, while I went with something gin-based and dryer. Both were very good - there's little fanfare with presentation; the bartenders let the drinks speak for themselves. Service was great; due to the setup, each patron is given extra attention which really highlighted the experience. Overall, I really enjoyed my time at The Cloakroom Bar. This was definitely a unique experience with excellent curated drinks. I would definitely return the next time I'm in Montreal.

We had the welk as an entrée - it was very good and cheesy. Afterwards we had the gnocchi and fish as a main meal. These were probably my favorite gnocchis I've had in a very long time. The mushroom sauce was perfect. They didn't have the branzino that day so it was replaced with a different fish which was tender and soft but the portion was a bit too small for the price. We had a wonderful cappuccino to finish the lovely night.

From the outside it seemed nothing more than a family joint, walking in the lights were dimmed, modern seating and decor with a great R&B playlist dropping beats in the background. Mike & Josh were great at hosting. You will have a good laugh from the cocktail menu. To name a few: morning wood, 1 inch punch, grow a pear. These cocktails were original and worth the starting price at around 14$ a drink . I had the 1 inch punch that is is a bourbon pineapple infused drink, I enjoyed the presentation and smoothness of it. We also had dessert- the olive oil strawberry trifle cake and Nutella bomboloni were my favourite. Desserts are around 9$ and up . The menus revolve seasonally. A really cute place for hangouts or date nights. Highly recommend!
