We were in Chinatown and craving some Chinese food on a Tuesday afternoon. So we decided to check this place out. This place is good for big and small groups. But I can say that it's better for big groups because the portions are really big and it's perfect to share.(they have a rolling table in the middle) We were greeted nicely when we got there, our waiter was super nice and funny, always filling our water and asking if we needed something. The menu is very big they pretty much have everything that you want, and they are open till 3am. When we got there they served us jasmine tea on the house which was really nice, and we ordered the peanut butter dumplings, the general Tao chicken, the soft noodles and the baby Bok choy with king mushroom. I can say that all of these were really good and alot for 2 ppl so we had to take the remaining to go. I highly recommend this place, I would definitely go back to try something else aswell because the menu is very big The service was really fast, we got there just in time because alot of ppl started showing up after. We didn't get any drinks here so I cannot comment on that but they do have a bar which a few different liquors.

Decent dimsum, great service and clean restaurant. Came at an odd hour so we were the only table but the service was fast and friendly.

From the same owner oh Kam Fung on St Urbain, this restaurant serve delicious Cantonese/Hong Kong style dishes. The food is delicious and well prepared. The lobster was cooked to perfection. The skin on the chicken was crispy and so tasty. Everything came out pippin hot. The service here is very friendly especially if you get Suki. She is amazing! Although on the pricier side compared to the other Chinese restaurants, we really recommend you try this place out. *visited pre pandemic

Pretty restaurant located off the main street with nice seating arrangements. We were here for a private birthday and got to enjoy a provide room with a round table we can move glide plates around. We had a good time! Food is authentic with some dishes being better than others. The ginger shrimp, mayo chicken, orange beef were great. All the other plates were decent. All in all the food is a solid 4 and I'm sure after a few visits I'd go with my favorites. I'll have to remove a star for the poor service we got. I could even remove 2! We had 3 to 4 staff members waiting on us (table of 8!) but no one took ownership of the table really. They "shared" the responsibilities which led to dishes we ordered never being delivered, plates we never ordered being given to us, glasses of water distributed to some (yet not all?) well after dinner started. The hot tea was given out initially then removed to eventually given another hot tea put on the table with no cups? It was fascinating to watch them be so inefficient at their job. No hot towels as other reviews said. Me sad. Decent resto but sorry I've been to better.

    Good for big groups!

Stopped by for lunch since they have a well priced lunch menu. Beautiful decor and very clean! We ordered the vegetable plate and general Tsao dish. Decent food but slightly on the salty side.

We had the Peking duck meal combo for two for $58. It came with three entrees and soup w white rice and dessert (fruit). Everything was absolutely delicious and service was kind, clean and prompt. We'll be happy to return!

Service and food, excellent. The restaurant is very clean and nice. The design is chic and goldy for a chinese restaurant. They have lots of seafood option (king crab, palourde, clams)They gave me hot towels to clean our hands before we start eating which is very fancy! I went with my family and we enjoyed the food.

Went there with my brother and sat at the bar. Bartender/server whose name escapes me (Eric? Tall dude with curly hair and a stache) poured excellent cocktails, was extremely knowledgeable about the wine and food and kept our glasses full. We ordered the seafood tower, the Crab toast, and the octopus. They were all obscenely good. Good bottle of wine and too much amaro at the end. Got to meet Chuck Hughes. He was super nice and fun to chat with. The rest of the staff, although not directly "responsible" for us, were taking care of business. Helping each other, making others aware of what is needed at other tables, and all trying their very best to make everyone's night as wonderful as possible. Everyone we came across seemed happy to be there. Ownership should be proud. Thanks for the awesome night. We will be back!

We were shown to our table, which was near the entrance in the perfect spot. I loved how they have a curtain at the entrance, so that although it felt like -20 with the windchill, we didn't notice once when people entered or exited. Our waitress introduced herself right away and took our cocktail orders. When she delivered our drinks, she explained how the chef's tasting menu worked and left us for a few minutes to decide which option we would like. We chose 'tier 3' which included a pasta course and extra caviar. Everything we had was amazing, from the seafood tower, to the beef carpaccio, to the hanger steak. It was so much food, we thought we would all burst by the end. The waitress was outstanding and was completely engaged with us throughout the evening. She added so much to our experience. We opted for the wine pairings and she gave us 3 wines as well as an amaro at the end. All in all, it was a meal to remember with a price tag of just under $2,000. Well worth it. We highly recommend this for a special occasion dinner.

Upon our hotel's concierge recommendation, we went to listen to some jazz and have some good food at Modavie, and were blown out of the water. We didn't think we needed reservations for a Monday night but we got there and it was packed. They made space for us at the bar and we ordered. The band was amazing and we were told there's a larger room upstairs with a different band. Now for the food: spectacular all around. We ordered poutine with lamb, the chicken and the salmon. I expected it to be good because everything in Montreal up to now had been great, and for a first time poutine taster, I was a bit apprehensive but OMG was it insane good! The fries were cooked to perfection, the sauce was like no gravy I've ever tasted before and the lamb melted in your mouth faster than the cheese curds. For my first time, it feels like all downhill from there. How can we top it?! With delicious salmon and chicken dancing on the palate. All that while listening to the most angelic sounds coming from the vocalist of the band made our experience the very best of Montreal. Modavie is now on my must-do list. I will definite be back.

The server also allowed me to sample the wine first before pouring which I really liked. However we are left feeling conflicted. While we were happy with the meal and service the price we were charged at the end was a surprise. We chose this location and not the nearby Portuguese place that we had originally planned because we had learned about the $59 "Happening Gourmand" meal. I know wine is not included along with gratuity. But nowhere on the menu did it mention that for the main course if you choose the steak it will cost an additional $20. If I had known that I would have had the fish. So just be certain on what you are paying for and being charged because this was very sneaky and wasn't told about the price difference until the bill arrived. As much as they were meticulous with the cleanliness of the table, I feel the follow up for drinks while we waited for our food should've been more frequent. Had it been more frequent? We probably would've ordered more beverages while we waited for our food. Once our food finally did arrive it wouldn't say it was anything outstanding nothing memorable that makes me feel like I'd like to come back. Pics and reviews looked great, so we made plans to dine here during our penultimate night in the city. Barroco is located in Old Montreal, right on Rue Saint-Paul. The exterior has really charming curb appeal, and upon entry we were greeted by the same. This isn't a large restaurant, arranged with tables and a few booths throughout the space and a bar on the back wall that serves as a focal point. The vibes were on - the restaurant was tastefully decorated with a mix of old-fashioned fixtures, stone walls, and earth tones. The restaurant was quite lively - the vibes were on. Their drink menu is quite creative; we actually started our evening at the bar while we were waiting for our table and the bartender made some great suggestions - both cocktails I had were really good. The food menu is mostly French inspired; it wasn't extensive but they had a good variety of creative dishes. We decided on two starters - the brioche and the octopus salad. The brioche was fine, it came as one roll with a side of seasoned butter. It was a little on the dry side, and the butter wasn't very flavorful. The octopus salad was much better; the octopus was sliced and arranged on top of a ratatouille which provided a good complement of flavors and textures. For my main I got the OG braised beef. The beef was almost pot-roast style, seasoned with maple and aged balsamic sauce and paired with truffled celery root purée. This was delicious - the beef was super tender, and the sauce provided great flavor. The puree was an awesome side - the entire trip was super comforting and familiar while also being new and interesting. We decided to get two desserts - the madeleines and the olive oil cake. The former were baked fresh and came with a side of chocolate pudding and salted caramel, while the latter came with whipped cream and coached pears. Both were good, but I preferred the madeleines; the warm sponge paired with the chocolate and caramel was a great finisher to the meal. Service was great - everyone from the host to the bartender to our waiter made us feel welcome; they definitely elevated the experience. Overall, I had a great time at Barroco; the food, vibes, and service were all on point. I would definitely consider returning the next time I'm in Montreal.
