They have a menu with quite a bit of variety, premium offerings like wagyu burgers and octopus, as well as a host of delicious cocktails and wine options. My colleagues and I have enjoyed every meal we have, with every plate always cleared. The biggest thing that stands out for me is the consistency of staff; my visits have been a couple years apart and one of the lead staff is the same. There's clear pride here. Yes, if you're there during business lunch hour or immediately after work, it's busy, but they advise you in advance. They schedule seating and stay on top of it. Can you feel rushed? Yes, but that's a decision you make taking the reservations available and I think they handle it politely. Doesn't impact your experience.

The presentation was dome like and you got to dive in to find all the ingredients and balsamic on the plate. I paired the calamari with a pinot noir rose. This calamari held its perfectly seasoned breading and there was a large portion of shrimp atop the squid. The aoli sauce was balanced tangy and lemon. Those two items were plenty portion for a solo diner and my server paced the meal very well. The ambiance is modern while the exterior made me think I was entering a more traditional scene. I really enjoyed this dinner in Montreal.

Came on a weekend night and luckily I made reservations as the place was quite backed. It was a very contemporary, bustling environment which pink lighting, marble tables, and comfortable seating. The servers were very kind and courteous and seated my party immediately. We all opted for the after 9 special, which gives you the most value for your meal since otherwise each main costs about $26-35. I decided on the soup of the day for my appetizer or entrees (en francais), and the salmon tartar with house fries as my main. Oh btw, the menu is in Italian and French for the after 9 special so bear that in mind if you're having trouble translating. The servers are happy to assist you thought with anything. Before the appetizers came out, they brought some lovely fresh focaccia with homemade goat cheese. It was absolutely delicious. The appetizers came out piping hot and quite fast. The mains however took a while, but the server gave us some additional bread to tie us over. I've heard seafood is well known here, and indeed it did not disappoint. The tartar was delicious and fresh. In all, a really great choice for dinner. I'll definitely be back soon!

The Concierge at my hotel recommended Ferreira, a Portuguese seafood restaurant in Montreal, and…read morewell established in Montreal. We were seated immediately that rainy early summer evening, having a reservation from our Concierge. It's a modern and streamlined looking restaurant interior with an interesting embankment that runs the length of the restaurant separating the well stocked bar from the tables with an underlit top that mimicks onyx and serves as an additional surface for service and whatever you have on your person. Porcelain plates are cracked and cemented to the wall as wallpaper, a definitive reference to Portuguese decor as well as the porcelain tiled backstop to the bar featuring a town somewhere in Portugal. All of it tastefully done and matching the authentic taste of the cuisine. We split a green salad and ordered glasses of red sangria. I asked before ordering if the sangria was served with fruit, but the sangria came out with no fruit. So I had to have them bring the fruit separately. I have never had to ask to ensure the fruit is served with sangria...ever. It was made with good red wine, but that was not a good look. The green salad was fresh, as was the fish to follow. I ordered the Rascasse or Red Scorpion fish, with crispy skin, and my friend ordered the Loup de Mer or Mediterranean Sea Bass, both flown in fresh daily as I understand. You're swimming around Portugal or thereabouts one day and filleted and plated the next...They are that fresh and this is why Ferreira is a seafood institution in Montreal. I enjoyed the slightly oily Rascasse, but the Loup de Mer I tasted was where it's at. I recommend highly the Loup de Mer! Notably, it took the kitchen a considerable time to produce our main courses, at least thirty minutes by our counting, and we both had the same observation and conversation as to length of time for the fish to come out of the kitchen. They served the fish with a very underwhelming orzo cooked in a tomato base, but it turned out very dry and unappealing. The cauliflower and broccoli were fresh and not overcooked, but I don't know what happened to the orzo. We were in alignment as to the orzo and both of us left it rather untouched. It would have been better to serve it with some quality yellow or saffron rice. I finished with an espresso with a very rich full cream that was on point. There are some definite high points to Ferreira Cafe when it comes to their fresh and authentic seafood focus and decor, but a little more attention should be paid to the orzo side and sangria, the latter being a layup and missed opportunity never missed at any Portuguese or Spanish restaurant. So evaluating Ferreira, a venerable restaurant with these inconsistencies and the fact this could have been an aberration, makes it a challenge. My split of the check with tip ran nearly $124 CAD, so not overly expensive for this level of freshness, but still with some misses and not the best value I experienced in Montreal. 3.7 stars

Walking in, the restaurant is very classy and broken up into two main seating areas (lower level, and then steps to the higher level that is situated right in front of the kitchen). I really enjoyed where we were sat as watching the chefs prepare the food through the clear glass panel in front of the kitchen was great. For the menu, they had a great selection, with many dishes being seafood-based. For our appetizer, we ordered their special, which at the time was their Hamachi ceviche. This was delicious with a great sauce and very fresh-tasting fish. They also had an extensive wine menu, and we settled on a white wine (sorry not a wine connoisseur so no idea what kind was ordered!) I was convinced by our server to order their most known dish (that has been on their menu for decades), which was the black cod on top of mushrooms and a potato puree. This was truly cooked to perfection - it was soft and flaky. This was my first time having black cod and wow was it a delight. It paired perfectly with the starchy potatoes (super creamy!!) and the sauteed mushrooms. The sauce was also not too overpowering and mellowed out the potatoes. I can see why it is their iconic dish. For dessert, the team ordered a wide variety but I settled on their Nage, which I would later realize implies a dessert soup of sorts. I was taken aback as this was not what I was expecting, but that is completely on me for not googling haha. The dessert features a waffle topping with a basil lime sorbet and fruits. The sorbet was absolutely delicious and though the texture was odd at first, it was delicious. Next time, I'm eager to try the more familiar desserts that my coworkers ordered, such as the churros and Portuguese egg tart! A great spot for dinner that I hope to be back in Montreal to try other menu items in the future!

The service at first was a bit slow, but that was understandable given how busy the restaurant was. Our server, Yan, was incredibly personable. He had excellent suggestions for dinner. We each started with cocktails, and enjoyed the ambiance. There was a live band, but we were in a different room. It wasn't loud like you would expect. 5/5 service. Beef Tartare: 5/5. This was an excellent start. The appetizer sizing was a little small for two people. If you want a little more, I'd recommend the entree size. It comes with fries. But it was delicious. The crostini's that came with it were a little overpowering, but the tartare itself was delicious. Duck Confit: 5/5. This duck was INCREDIBLE. Perfectly cooked, crispy skin, tender and juicy flavor. An incredible sauce. Delicious veggies and potatoes. The only thing I did not like about this dish was how quickly we ate it! Dessert (not pictured): 5/5. We had a chocolate pyramid with hazelnuts and chocolate mousse. Delicious. Be sure to put Modavie on your Montreal dining list!

Super romantic but really loud so it would be hard to hear your date. I only came in for wine and cheese to escape the rain after a big supper, but was pleasantly surprised to happen upon a live jazz duo playing at dinner. Reservations are highly recommended but I walked in solo and got one of the few seats left at the bar. The server was incredible, friendly and very attentive to everyone at the bar. While all of the food coming out looked amazing, I give 3 stars for the lack of presentation/selection of the cheese platter (which I forgot to take a picture of). The menu said selection of 4 cheeses. What I got was 4 pieces of only two types of cheese cut by a four year old. I was expecting four different cheeses, not two pieces of two types. It definitely didn't look like everyone else's plates coming out. For how beautiful all of the other plates came out, $30 for this was a definite rip off. I'm glad I opted for a bit of a cheaper glass of wine because anything more expensive would have really ruined the experience. Skip the cheese platter and get yourself a different appetizer if you don't want to be disappointed.

My favorite bite of the night was the mackerel appetizer, consisting of two pieces of raw mackerel on a crispy gougiere with cheese. It was so unbelievably flavorful. The contrast between the warm, savory gougiere and the cool, umami fish was out of this world and really set the stage for the rest of the meal. The rabbit strozzapretti was my next favorite dish, I didn't realize rabbit could taste so savory without any hint of gaminess at all. The pasta was a nice al dente and the sauce felt like a warm hug. We also got the pintade (guinea fowl), the radicchio, and the flan. The guinea fowl was juicy and not dry at all, but my favorite was the crispy flavorful skin. The radicchio was a refreshing salad, although I thought they could have gone a bit lighter with the dressing. The flan was really good for dessert, and I could eat it even though I was getting really full at the end. Servers were nice, patient, and explained the menu items well. They had helpful suggestions and made sure our water glasses were never empty. Definitely worth a visit and cannot wait to come back!
