The bulgogi pizza was really good, except I think that it wasn't actually tasting like what I've typically tried before- it's a good pizza on its own but the "bulgogi" in the pizza was more just soy sauce marinated meat (as opposed to bulgogi which is a bit sweet) - just a fair warning to anyone expecting that more typical bulgogi taste. The kimchi fries were subpar. I thought there would be a lot of kimchi in it but we really had to look for it. But the fries themselves and the sauce were really good- the fries are crispy and don't get too soggy even with the sauce and kimchi on top. I might trust ordering some other type of fries next time just based on tasting the kimchi fries this time. The star for me by far was the rose pasta, it was so flavorful but not overly salty if that makes sense. The garlic flavor came through and was cheesy but the salt level was just right. You can add shrimp, chicken or clam (or have it plain). We had it with shrimp- which were plenty big and there were six total so it's not one of those "hunt for the topping I paid 1/3 more for" kind of situations (yes you know you've done that before :)). There's really no pizza quite like korean pizza. The golden colored crust is so delicious that you can't stop eating it. The toppings are also unique and produces a umami flavor that you won't find it anywhere else. There's a plethora of side dishes and drinks to choose from as well. The jumbo prawn rose pasta I've gotten every time. It's perfectly al dente (especially for a place that doesn't specialize in pasta) with a rich creamy sauce and perfectly bouncy shrimp. The wait staff are very friendly and attentive. There are several tables inside with some nostalgic music playing that's not overly loud. Revisited this place after a long while and was APPALLED by how AWFUL the service has become! When my mom and I requested to sit in one of the empty booths, they told us that the booths were reserved for parties of 3 or more, so they sat us next to the fridge w/ all the alcoholic drinks. We were freezing b/c there was cold air coming out of the cooler, and there was also chilly air blowing from outside b/c the windows were open (they told us they couldn't close the windows either). After we got our order, we noticed that there was one lady who was sitting at one of the tables in the booth area all by herself, and there were two other tables that were still empty. We asked if we could sit at one of those tables where it was noticeably warmer, and they still refused--this time they said we could only sit there if we ordered a lot (we had ordered a large pizza pie and a couple of drinks, but apparently that wasn't enough). Funny thing is, that girl sitting by herself didn't order much at all. Halfway through our meal, they seated a couple at one of the empty tables in the booth area, and the other empty table remained empty even after we'd finished our meal. I can't remember the last time I felt so discriminated against as a customer (or feeling so cold at a restaurant!). My mom was even more upset than I was (though thankfully she wasn't as cold b/c I lent her my jacket). Needless to say, we're never going back! The pizza is still decent, but it's a bit overpriced (the Domino's on Northern Blvd has equally tasty pizza for less than half the price), and it certainly doesn't make up for the lousy customer service. I haven't had Korean pizza in a minute, and this place is one of the few joints that offer them. The place is far away from everything though, but that didn't stop the groups of people there on a random weekend. Their menu was so extensive, with endless pizza types, toppings, and other Korean traditional or fusion dishes. Our Medium Bulgogi Pizza on the Cheese Crust Pizza ($20) was just ok. Bulgogi always seems to be skimped on, and I felt like some flavor was lacking with this one. Their cheese was just mozzarella in the crust, nothing fancy. Our Medium Sausage Shrimp Pizza on Sweet Potato Crust ($20?) was way better, one because of the more fitting medley of toppings, and also because the sweet potato filling of a crust was more dynamic. But surprisingly, their Korean Army Stew ($26) was one of the best I ever had. Maybe the cold winter night helped, but all the spam, sausage, tofu, veggies, really mixed together well to form such a deep flavor. It had the perfect spice too! I see they used beef bone broth, so maybe this was a culprit? Most disappointing was their Squid Ink Calamari, which was just crunchier than usual, due to the stickier goo. Not worth getting. This spot seems like such a well loved neighborhood gem because as soon as we entered seven minutes after opening there were already at least two tables full of people seated. Later the restaurant got PACKED with families and couples galore which was really cute. Food (specifically the pizza) takes a little while to come out but you can tell it's because they are making it to order which is so appreciated. I ordered a large half Korean chive half potato with no meat, golden crust pizza which features sweet potato and realized upon receiving our food that the waitress put in the order wrong and gave us half Hawaiian (which I can't eat because pork). But another waitress was kind enough to offer us a medium on the house of the flavor we had originally ordered. Amazing service. Now the large is significantly bigger than the medium so I highly suggest going for a large and doing half half so you can try different flavors on one pie. I really enjoyed the sweetness of the sweet potato paired with the milky slightly saltiness of the cheese. It's not my first Korean style pizza but this one definitely was the superior one. Lots of toppings on all the pies on the menu so you're sure to have a flavor explosion. The Korean chive pizza has shrimp on it which I don't actually like but I was open to giving it a shot for the lulz. I ended up being surprised how nicely seasoned and flavored the shrimp was. On Mahsil's website they write "Brunch at Flushing, Feel like NYC" which I interpret as a more upscale experience then you would usually find in Flushing. I can get behind that, but honestly the decor reminded of a place in Canada called Montreal Plaza. The tiled front (Blue in Mahsil's case), paneled windows, the lightng, layout and the prominent cock in the signage made me think this smaller space was inspired by our northern neighbor. The food here is Korean Gastropub with more beers than you can shake a stick at which is great with me, but unfortunately my first choice was sold out so I went with a Weihenstephan even though I knew nothing about the beer. It was a refreshing choice - probably a fruity wheat beer that came with a side of fruit salad (not literally - see pic). We ordered the black calamari fries, which seems like the must try item, and I found them to be tasty despite the slightly off-putting look of the inky black fried rings. The calamari was tender, and the black which I presume to be squid ink didn't add any discernable flavor, but its cool, we all wear black in NYC. We also received cole slaw and some pickled radish cubes - tasty and ubiquitous in KFC spots. We ordered a large gold crust pizza, shrimp and sausage. Each slice came with exactly three pieces of each in different combos. The special ingredients were uninspiring, but the fluffy potato and cheese crust made for a satisfy pie. Perhaps get a plain gold crust cheese pie for the experience. I was here on Saturday night and it wasn't overly fully (little more than half), but the place had a good energy. Service was friendly, but spotty - I never got that side of hot sauce for the pizza. The rest of the menu has interesting choices and also many more beers to try. Luckily, they deliver to LIC so we didn't have to make the trek to Murray Hill. This place is opened til midnight so it is great for some late night bites after the majority of Flushing eateries close for the night. They have a pretty wide range of beers and hard seltzers from around the world. They are all bottled/canned though, no tap stuff here. I tried the "LUNAR" brand hard seltzer here, and was pleasantly surprised by the Asian flavors like Yuzu and Lychee. (Markup is not too bad... each can of seltzer was $6 compared to maybe $3-4 retail) As for food, I tried their truffle oil fries and their signature golden crust "Mahsil pizza" which is like a Korean take on a supreme pizza (green peppers, pepperoni, sausage, etc.... a.k.a. the full shebang). The truffle oil fries were pretty good but not mind-blowing, but I expected more truffle flavor and maybe some truffle shavings on top, but it was really just plain fries doused in some truffle oil. The fries were hot and crispy though. The pizza was my first time trying Korean style pizza. The bread is slightly thicker and fluffier than NY style pizza. It's more like naan or pita. There is also little to no tomato sauce, so it is lacking that acidic bite. But to make up for it, there is generous heaps of melted mozzarella and toppings both over and under the cheese. I recommend the golden crust option, which adds a sweet potato filled crust. It's my first time having pizza with sweet potato but to my surprise the combination works. The large pie is more than enough for 2 people (we ended up taking home half the pizza!), but you can probably share a small as well if you get some of their other apps. I think coming here after 9:30pm or so was perfect. The restaurant was only half full but not too loud, music was not blasting to the point where you can't hear the other party, and service was good. Got mahsil for takeout the other day and it was a hit for the family! Perfect food for football night - a cheese pull galore pizza and Korean style wings for a nice side. We've done takeout two times, one time being the mahsil pizza and one being the the bulgogi pizza. As a family, we enjoyed the mahsil pizza more because it had all kinds of toppings. I stand by how much I love the gold crust because the sweet potato balances out the rich cheese. The soup was my favorite, I really love the flavor of the broth and how it came with two shrimp tempura. The soup comes out with it's own burner so it can stay warm. The soup also has mushroom, fish cakes which were delicious. Overall I enjoy all the delicious food that Mahsil has to offer. I would go back for drinks and to try the rest of their menu. read more
