I'm so grateful for this rec, because Xi Top has become our favorite BBQ place! There's 2 Xi Top restaurants - one with charcoal & one with gas stoves. It's easy to see why the charcoal side has more of wait; they are LEGIT in the wood charcoal that they use, and it adds more to the experience. We've been fairly lucky with wait times, but do expect to have to join the waiting list during the dinner rush. I've loved just about everything that we've tried here so far. Big Beef and beef skewers are a MUST. We wanted to try the marinated version of the big beef, but they were unfortunately sold out. The marinated short ribs were good too, though! Prices are super reasonable for the meat portions. Please don't skip out on the appetizers and sides - these are incredible. We LOVE the stir fried cabbage, and I was also really intrigued by the eggplant with chili sauce. Cold noodles were a skip - it doesn't hit the same way that korean cold noodles do. They also have this REALLY addicting house sauce (absolutely LOVE this) and they also give the usual skewer seasonings too. Service is super attentive, and they help with cooking all the meats. We haven't had anything that's been overcooked so far. Parking is difficult around the Murray Hill area, but it's worth making the trek here.

Their spicy stir fried squid was another highlight: perfectly seasoned and great for snacking on between rounds of BBQ. For BBQ, we went with the marinated short ribs and soy sauce-marinated beef. The short ribs were my absolute favorite. Pairing it with a warm bowl of rice and their dipping sauce really hit the spot. After finishing the BBQ we still had room in our bellies, so we order beef skewers and mushrooms. I've had the lamb skewers here before, and the beef is wayyy better in my opinion. I ordered a Sichuan classic, twice cooked pork, and a new dish I've never seen before, snow pea leaves in broth. The twice cooked pork was a fantastic iteration of this dish. The pork was sliced thin with the perfect amount of chew which paired well texturally with the soft, buttery leeks. The flavor was so well balanced while being heavily seasoned and the smoky wok hei flavor really comes through. The snow pea leaves were soft and silky with tender stems, and they came served in a golden broth with some mushrooms, juicy tomato and snappy pieces of black fungus. The dish is topped with a century egg. I found the broth itself to have a bit of a grainy texture when sipped. I've tried century egg in the past and while I'm not disgusted by it, I never quite felt like I understand the ingredient until eating this dish. The creamy, funky flavor of the egg reminds me of blue cheese and it pairs very well with the subtle flavors of the snow pea leaves and amplifies the richness of the broth. I really enjoyed my experience here and would like to return with a group to try more of the Sichuan classics on the menu.
