Kum Sung is a solid KBBQ experience overall. I had never had Korean-style duck before, so it was a nice change from standard beef/pork. The duck tasted leaner than other forms of duck I've had, but it was flavorful and pretty tender. We also got the garlic samgyupsal, which was decent; however, the garlic marinade didn't really add much to the meat, and it basically just burned off and got stuck on the grill. The daenjang jigae was tasty, and I loved that they brought out a special side of marinated crab with the other banchan. The service was great.

We walked in and were seated quickly. The menu had a lot of good bbq options as well as soup and cold noodle dishes. We ordered the haemul kalguksu and sul-leung tang. Immediately after ordering the server brought over lots of banchan which was nice. There was salt, pepper, and a spice on the table to adjust your dish to your liking. Sul-Leung tang was very simple flavor wise but the noodles were well cooked and it was an enjoyable dish that felt good for you. The haemul kalguksu was a little spicy and well flavored with bouncy, more chewy noodles. In addition to the banchan served at the start of the meal we also received 2 small yogurt drinks with the bill. The interior is clean with no frills decor. There is only one individual bathroom but it's clean and spacious. Overall well worth it!

I came to Kum Sung BBQ because I wanted to try Korean style raw marinated crabs for the first time. My friend convinced me to order the Naengmyun + LA Galbi combo as well because she said the restaurant is known for their cold noodles. She ordered the Sunji Haejang Guk because she likes hot soups mixed with rice. The blue crabs tasted fresh, so it paired nicely with the rice, but due to the soy sauce marinate it was definitely on the salty side. The Naengmyun was super chewy and the broth was a mixture of sweet, tangy, savory. Delicious! I was given vinegar and Korean mustard on the side to add to my liking. My friend said the Sunji Haejang Guk (ox blood with pieces of beer and vegetables in beef broth) was light and she liked how they provide spice on the side so customers can adjust per preference. Other than the dishes we ordered, we were provided with an abundance of bonchon (side dishes). I enjoyed the variety and how traditional the side dishes are (as opposed to just kimchi or picked radish that more modern Korean places give). This is more of a traditional Korean restaurant and the staff was very nice. My friend spoke Korean to the staff, but they made sure to explain and made me feel included. Haha.

Dropped by on a Sunday night and there was no wait. The meal was very homey and lots of different varieties. Overall enjoyed it and exploring the Korean town of flushing. Sliced duck bbq was a minimum of two. Tons of banchan - at least like 10 different options which was fantastic Naeng myun - ice cold. Jogae kalguksu - comes hot with clams. Noodles were a little plain LA Galbi - it's good. Not too fatty and came with the naeng myun set.

Fresh and satisfying local Korean food! Lots of yummy sides. To end the meal, you give you a free yogurt drink.

This was excellent. We came with a group of three and ordered a lot -- duck BBQ (we liked the marinated the best), cold noodles, fish roe soup, dumplings, and spicy pork, to name a few. The cold noodles were really excellent, and we loved the spicy pork as well. I also really liked the broth with the fish roe soup. The banchan here is also very generous and very, very good. Glad we made the trip out.

I've come here several times because even my extremely picky Chinese parents enjoy it. First of all, the amount of banchan is INSANE. Like we were scrambling to eat it because it wouldn't all fit on our table. I would come here just for that tbh. Their signature dishes are their kimchi bulgogi and grilled duck. The duck was honestly just okay, not as flavorful as I expected. I really like the kimchi bulgogi though, the sourness really complements the fatty beef. The staff is really sweet despite us not speaking Korean, and also gave us some complimentary spicy raw crab that was delicious! Not fishy at all and while very spicy, was such a treat. I will definitely be back to try their soy marinated crab. Also their naengmyun is bomb. Get it. This restaurant is a bit out of the way, but the best kbbq in nyc is for sure in Murray Hill and Kum Sung is a solid choice.

I was introduced to this restaurant through the Seated app. They have a 2 BBQ order minimum if you want to eat BBQ. Initially my game plan was to try the duck BBQ and the grandfathers kimchi bulgogi, but turns out they come in different pans so you can't combine grandfathers kimchi with meats that are cooked on the flat grill pan. Instead, we got the duck BBQ, garlic marinated pork belly, and soy marinated crab. Pros: The banchan selection was A++. The ssamjang was delicious. The pork belly was excellent! The soy marinated crab (ganjang gejang) was delicious with a side of rice. Not fishy at all. The grilled garlic that came with the duck was bomb. Our waitress was very sweet, and I love not having to grill my own meat. Amazing ventilation. I was shocked that I didn't smell like KBBQ at all after leaving. Love that they gave a little Yakult drink with the bill. Cons: The duck bbq wasn't as duck flavored as I was expecting. Fun to try but I'll probably stick to my basic beef and pork cuts next time. My wallet was sad afterwards. Hopefully I can come back with a larger group to try that kimchi bulgogi someday!

Amazing authentic Korean food! My first time and won't be the last. The Banchan (side dishes are so varied and perfectly seasoned and so many), the staff are so nice and even the bus boys who have nunchi (intuition). I loved everything about the food. Great for vegetarians and pescatarians. Portions were perfect.

Came here with my boyfriend yesterday around 7:30 and had to wait over 30 minutes to get seated! This block is really poppin with outdoor dining. I liked that they separated the tables- the restaurant next door literally had people on top of each other. We ordered the mul nengmyun, gamja tang, and two orders of the duck bbq (minimum 2 orders) Nengmyun- broth was very icy, refreshing and delicious. The noodles are very chewy. Gamja tang- would probably pass on this next time. Usually this dish is cooked for a lot longer that the meat falls off the bone. The broth was also fishy- maybe they put anchovies..?? Duck bbq- GOOD. But pricy. Two orders of this isn't really that much, for two people. ( if you look in my banchan pic, the duck is on the right hand corner, above the empty banchan plate) That small dish is like 65% of two servings) The service was great. We had this really nice auntie as our waitress. She spoke Chinese and Korean and a little English. We LOVE banchan (who doesn't!!) and she offered us refills before we even had to ask. I mean I know banchan is free but I rarely go to places that just offer refills, we usually have to ask. Overall, great place and will definitely be back!

I ordered regular size of ($35) of pork dish. All you get is 12 pieces. I thought they missed my order to combination with cold noodle (normally combo has smaller portion than regular order). I called them and explained however they were saying it's just their normal portion.

Seriously, the best duck BBQ in New York, no competition. The side dishes (ban chan) are incredibly delicious! Honestly, I could just come here for ban chan!

    Nengmyen. Sweet, savour and sour.
    Azure A.

Alright full disclosure: I'm not a fan of overly sweet things and Koreans tend to put sugar in everything. Also I wanted to try nengmyen not knowing what to expect. The broth didn't personally fit my preference but my lord those arrow root noodles were super chewy in a good way. I just personally prefer savoury flavors for my noodles and broth. Wouldn't be fair to leave a lesser review based on my personal preference this could be an amazing nengmyen but I wouldn't know. It was definately interesting, the broth was sweet (argh), a little savoury (yay), and little sour (meh). Personally not for me. I need to come back for the bbq and pork belly for sure. So my rating is going to be based off the golden standard of all korean places: the bonchan (free side dishes). Every bonchan was 10/10. Holy crap that was unexpected. They end the meal with a complementary korean brand yakult (yogurt drink part of every asian kid's childhood). However I'm guessing this brand is catered towards Korean palettes which means, yes you guessed it, it was overly sugary. It felt like I was drinking straight up syrup.

We ended up ordering the Kimchi Pancake with seafood, the spicy bulkoki udon and the jeyuk udon. The kimchi seafood pancake was super crispy and filled with squid and shrimp! It also came with a semi sweet dipping sauce that paired nicely. Both udons came out piping hot and fresh! Udon had a nice chew to it, was loaded with vegetables as well as meat for each dish. The egg was fried and did not have a runny yolk. For sides, they gave us 4 things- a tomato salad, kimchi cucumbers, braised string beans, and bean sprouts. The tomato salad came in this cute apple shaped dish but neither of us really cared for it- this is completely biased though since we're not really fans of tomato. I really enjoyed it but I guess I like scorched rice, also something my partner doesn't enjoy so those we feel sim just note. Environment feels very old school, well worn. Feels cozy. The inside is casual,…read moreand our waitress, Jane, was extremely friendly and helpful from refilling banchan to cooking meats and otherwise. A couple of us shared a $13 bottle of the green grape flavor of Chum Churum, a soju. In terms of banchan, there was a bunch. Everyone got a cold and refreshing cabbage soup as well as a very tasty version of Braised Tofu/Dubu-jorim/두부조림. Once we ordered, we also got a bunch of other banchan, including cabbage, radish, and cucumber Kimchi, broccoli and cauliflower Namul, Marinated Mushrooms/Beoseot Bokkeum/버섯볶음, Anchovies With Peanuts/Myeolchi Bokkeum/멸치볶음, and Potato/Gamja Salad/감자샐러드. One of the other things brought out was a pretty tasty version of Raw Soy Sauce Marinated Crab/Ganjang-Gejang/간장게장. Most of these were refillable. The first actual thing that arrived was something that I can't eat, the $22.99 Seafood Pancake/Haemul Pajeon/해물파전. I have a cephalopod allergy, or in other words, anything with tentacles, so I avoid squid and octopus, and seafood pancakes always contain one of those two. Everyone else enjoyed it, though. The pajeon I could eat was the Kimchi Jeon/김치전 for a dollar less. It was pretty tasty, though I prefer other spots that had a bit more of a crisp. Next was one of their signatures, the grilled duck. Going from online reviews, we went with the non-spicy version, as people prefer it, as the spicier marinade overpowers the duck. This was the $29.99 Sang Ori Gui/생오리구이. The sliced duck was on a hot, sizzling plate, with there also being a lot of grilled onions and scallions. The duck had a mix of pieces, ranging from fatty to less so, and had a nice mix of textures. This was easily one of my favorites, though I liked it even more when paired with the ssamjang that arrived with the BBQ, as the sauce balanced the light fattiness. Arriving at a similar time was the last thing I couldn't eat, the Spicy Stir-Fried Baby Octopus on Iron Plate/Jjukkumi Cheolpan Bokkeu/철판쭈꾸비볶음, for $30.99. I couldn't try the octopus, but the portion was plentiful, and I had a bit of the noodles on the bottom after making sure there were no tentacles, as well as trying the sauce. The sauce was tasty, spicy, and very flavorful. We went with two of the Korean BBQ meats, one beef and one pork. My preference of the two was surprisingly the $49.99 Charcoal Grilled Marinated Beef Ribs/Yangnyeom Galbi/양념갈비. This also came with two veggies: kabocha squash and asparagus. The beef was extremely tender, had the perfect mix of fat and meat, and had only a light sweetness from the marinade. This was absolutely delicious and very much worth the price point. Also tasty was the Grilled Pork Belly/Samgyeopsal/삼겹살, for $36.95. This also came with a few things, including cabbage and a large mushroom. The pork belly was delicious, being just fatty enough and very tender as well, with a mild chew. The BBQ came with a few extra side dishes. This included a tasty steamed egg/Gyeran-jjim/계란찜, greens, an onion salad, ssamjang, salt, and a small boiling pot of soybean stew/doenjang jjigae. They were all tasty, though nothing particularly notable outside of the portions being generous. Also, at the end of the meal, they gave us some sujeonggwa. Not much for me to complain about this place. The food was very tasty overall, and the service was wonderful. I would go back and order a full beef BBQ set.

You would think we would order Chinese food but we ended up here. No regrets though. We ordered the pork bbq and it was delicious, presentation was good along with the banchan side dishes. In addition, I also received the gaejang (marinated raw crab) which was a nice touch. We also ordered the daegi gukbap (pork soup with rice), a comfort dish and kimchi pancake which was really tasty. Our server was good. We arrived past the busier lunch hourso this was a pleasant non-hurried experience.
