Eggplant potato chili and beef skewers
    Michelle T.

Finally found a charcoal place instead of a gas or electric skewer place. The flavors are great but the beef skewers were very small. The eggplant potato was definitely one of our favorite. We wish we were able to cook on the grill to control the temperature and when we want to eat it unfortunately we were not. Since they cooked everything for us one after another , we couldn't eat as quickly leaving some of the beef overcooked. However, we would do this again!

Food first, thoughts after... The charcoal grill bbq is my absolute favorite. Better if you speak mandarin. The stir fry vegetables are delicious and even got compliments from my Chinese parents which is really saying something. The beef was delicious. A good meal overall.

I came here for lunch one day and had a great time! This BBQ spot offers both Korean BBQ as well as Chinese skewers. On top of that, there are a variety of Korean and Chinese dishes that you can order on top of the BBQ, such as cold noodles. The staff here grill the meat for you as you eat it. We got a variety of the meats as well as skewers. For dishes, we got their Chinese style chicken gizzards and cartilage as well as their Korean-style cold noodles. Everything was delicious. The meats were tender and juicy. I loved how they used real charcoal to grill the meats, which added a smoky flavor. You were also provided sauce as well as Chinese-style BBQ seasoning to eat with the meats. The chicken gizzard and cartilage were full of flavor and a generous portion. And, the cold noodles were so refreshing and light. The meal ended with complimentary yogurt, which was perfect. Would definitely come back or recommend to anyone who can't decide between Chinese or Korean BBQ!

Went for dinner on a Wednesday night around 6 and got a table on the charcoal BBQ side of the restaurant. Someone stood by the table cooking most of the time. We had two types of beef and oysters as well as lamb skewers. Everyone got a plate of cumin spices and a bowl of fresh herbs and sesame sauce for dipping. There a few bon chons as well. We ordered a sautéed cabbage which was good with some spiciness. I needed more food so I ordered a bowl of rice, large shrimps for BBQ and a dish of pork kidneys. The kidneys came with peppers and onions and a slightly sweet soy flavored sauce. It was ok. The shrimps were difficult to peel after being grilled. Overall, a good experience. The tables were far apart enough to not hear other people talking.

Authentic Shenyang (Northeastern China Region) Style BBQ approved. You just need to order what you want and your waiter/waitress will help you cook them. They use real charcoal to cook, but no charcoal or smokey smell would be on your clothes. Really love their beef items especially pairing with the dry seasoning and the dipping sauce. Very unique flavor with the sauce, nothing like your ordinary Korean BBQ. Highly recommend this place.

With my taste, I think it's just average, but my friends found it very delicious. If you have a chance, should try. The meat here is tender and not heavily marinated--mostly should dip it in sauce. I prefer dipping it in Korean soybean paste rather than the peanut/sesame sauce. What impressed me the most is that the server grills all the meat for you and are very patient, even though the charcoal fire is very hot. Overall, the food isn't anything particularly special to me.

My new favorite bbq spot in the area :) The food is pretty good! came here twice already and both times were good! They cook the meat for you and grill it at the table. The beef (rib fingers) is yummy, try the sweet potato with sweet sauce, it's fun pulling them up and dipping in water. Friendly staff and quick service! Could be a bit of wait if it's busy since they don't take reservations. (around 20-25 min)

PSA Come early if you would like to try this restaurant. My friends and I arrived 6pm on a Friday and wasn't seated an hour later. It is a very popular spot, there is two stores to each other the difference is that one is charcoal and the other is electric grill. The charcoal one is definitely worth the wait because the meats taste so much better. The staff is super attentive, and helpful. Some of the items on the menu unfortunately was sold out by the time we were seated. The meats was so fresh and flavorful and not to mention the dipping sauce! The dipping sauce goes so well with the meats as it enhances the flavors! I will definitely be returning! Also definitely get the cold noodles it was so rich and flavorful

I've been here twice. They have two stores one has the grill on the table for bbq and the other store they just bring it out to you. Menu is the same. I definitely recommend the one where the grill is on the table but there is a longer wait if you come during dinner rush! The lamb skewers were delish! Also got the marinade beef and that was ok too. There is a shredded potato cold dish that I loved and also the sweet potato with sweet sauce was sooo good. The sweet potato is more like dessert-ish but best served hot! I'm drooling just thinking about it! Highly recommend and will definitely be going back!

Shredded Potato, Century Egg with Tofu

Yummy! This place is so good, and the staff was so kind to us. For a group of 5 people, we all left full and the total was only around $160. I believe there's a cash discount as well. We came too late so the skewers were sold out, but we got two types of grilled beef and squid. For appetizers, we had the stir fried green beans, shredded potato, and century egg with tofu. Everything was so good! I generally love the shredded potato dish, and they did it really well here! The beef was also super tender and flavorful. You can dip it in their dry rub seasoning as well. The ladies working were very accommodating (maybe because we spoke Chinese?) and offered us free beverages as well. Overall, I highly recommend this spot for Chinese barbeque!

This is legitimately the best Chinese bbq place in Flushing. They have consistent good quality with a fair price. The other Korean bbq place with charcoal usually is $10 more per meat. I think 2-3 orders for two people is more than enough. We ordered 5 and ended up taking half home. I strongly recommend Q1, Q2 and Q5. The beef skewers are good too. They never give you overly fatty pieces and the meat is not too lean to a point where it's stuck in your teeth. The sweet sour pork is good too (I prefer糖醋里脊 over 锅包肉, but it might be that I like ketchup more). Gopchang is also good because it's not dry. Their service is good too, but I have to admit on some days it's better than the others. This time the service is phenomenal- the server cooked our meat perfectly and even apologized for slightly burning one piece (I've been to too many places where they just really don't care). Overall, it's a great place to go with your family or friends. You can never go wrong with great meat and cold beer!

Highlights: - charcoal grill is always very cool - spacious for group of five - great service. The waitress cut meat to tiny pieces so my kid can eat more conveniently. Kudos to her! Cons: - the grill has to be kept on, making it uneasy to place plates/ dishes - seats are limited. Expect some wait in peak time.

Located on a busy street filled with Korean restaurants, this place is quite popular even though it looks rather unassuming on the outside. By 6pm, there is already a wait on a Sunday night. There aren't many tables inside and tables are separated by wood dividers (because of COVID, I assume). All serveware are disposable, which seems pretty cheap to me. With proximity to many Korean restaurants, one might assume Xi Top BBQ offers Korean BBQ, but it's actually a northern Chinese style of BBQ. Unlike Korean BBQ, Xi Top BBQ emphasizes more on the quality and natural flavor of the meat, rather than marinating with spicy or sweet sauce. Their BBQ grill uses coal and someone comes with gloves and all to put the coal in. There aren't much meat options in their BBQ menu but their quality makes up for the lack of quantity. We ordered a couple of dishes/appetizers to go along with the BBQ -- stir fried pork intestines, stir fried veggies with seafood, spicy stir fried potato strips, and spicy cucumbers. Honestly, we were not impressed by any of these dishes. All of these were dishes we've made at home before and felt we could make it better. Despite saying this is not a Korean BBQ restaurant earlier, I would say Xi Top dishes have a fusion of Korean. Most of these appetizers/entrees have a Korean style sauce used to cook it. While the entrees were disappointing, the real winner of this place is the northern Chinese style bbq. We ordered all 3 types of beef on the limited bbq meat menu and the squid. The squid was soo good, we ordered it twice! They don't add any sauce to the squid, except a drizzle of chili oil and after the waitress grill it for us, the squid is tender and really have that squid flavor. All the meats were tender and high quality. They give their homemade chili dipping powder as a condiment, which I really liked. Overall, our bill came out to be about $300 after tax and tips for a table of 5. Pay with cash to avoid tax. I thought this place wasn't the most affordable and while I wouldn't come back based on the dishes I tried, the BBQ really changed my mind. If I ever come back, I would solely get the BBQ.

There's 2 waitresses and one busser, but I felt only one of the waitress was pulling the weight, while the other (maybe she's the owner?) mostly chatted with one of the table customers. I felt bad for our waitress she was so busy with fulfilling takeouts + dine ins and the dishes require a lot of servicing table side. She couldn't catch 1 second of break :( Food wise, we got their 2 person combo of spicy pork gamja tang and spicy rice cake which came with the steamed egg. Everything was so good, egg was extra fluffy, rice cake was delicious and the meat came right off the bones. They take a good variety of side dishes. My partner wasn't a fan of the gamja tang but due to feeling it's a hassle to eat meat with bones, so those who fee sim may agree. We also asked for the fried rice after we finished the gamja tang, for 2 servings I think it was $4.75 or something. I really enjoyed it but I guess I like scorched rice, also something my partner doesn't enjoy so those we feel sim just note. Environment feels very old school, well worn. Feels cozy. It can get loud very quickly on a Saturday night as this place seems to be a hit for large parties. Since the wait staff is short handed, expect a bit of a wait for things. Don't come if you're in a rush.

Geo Si Gi is highly known for their signature gamjatang (spicy pork bone soup). Ordered the Gamjatang & Grilled Mackerel Set - $52.95 (for 2) The gamjatang is perfectly spiced - bold and warming without overwhelming heat (and trust me, my spice tolerance is low!). Instead of the usual red kimchi, they load it with long strips of green napa cabbage, cut right before your eyes before serving. Some bean sprouts, watercress on top, with tender potatoes, chewy rice cakes, and massive pork bones that fall right off - so meaty and flavorful. Served with a side of sweet mustard sauce. Pure comfort on a cold day. The grilled mackerel was enormous and incredibly plump - way bigger than expected! As an oily fish, it's rich and satisfying, but we barely made it through a third. If you're a mackerel fan like me, it's a must-order. . Banchan were simple and homey: nothing flashy, just solid classics. Bonus: it comes with fluffy steamed egg (jjim) that rounds out the meal perfectly. I can eat an entire bowl of rice with just the steamed egg . This set was massive for two - we left with about 1/4 of the soup and 2/3 of the fish! Pro tip: Save some broth and ask them to make fried rice with it at the end. Game-changer. . Highly recommend for hearty, soul-warming Korean food in Flushing!

A couple of us shared a $13 bottle of the green grape flavor of Chum Churum, a soju. In terms of banchan, there was a bunch. Everyone got a cold and refreshing cabbage soup as well as a very tasty version of Braised Tofu/Dubu-jorim/두부조림. Once we ordered, we also got a bunch of other banchan, including cabbage, radish, and cucumber Kimchi, broccoli and cauliflower Namul, Marinated Mushrooms/Beoseot Bokkeum/버섯볶음, Anchovies With Peanuts/Myeolchi Bokkeum/멸치볶음, and Potato/Gamja Salad/감자샐러드. One of the other things brought out was a pretty tasty version of Raw Soy Sauce Marinated Crab/Ganjang-Gejang/간장게장. Most of these were refillable. The first actual thing that arrived was something that I can't eat, the $22.99 Seafood Pancake/Haemul Pajeon/해물파전. I have a cephalopod allergy, or in other words, anything with tentacles, so I avoid squid and octopus, and seafood pancakes always contain one of those two. Everyone else enjoyed it, though. The pajeon I could eat was the Kimchi Jeon/김치전 for a dollar less. It was pretty tasty, though I prefer other spots that had a bit more of a crisp. Next was one of their signatures, the grilled duck. Going from online reviews, we went with the non-spicy version, as people prefer it, as the spicier marinade overpowers the duck. This was the $29.99 Sang Ori Gui/생오리구이. The sliced duck was on a hot, sizzling plate, with there also being a lot of grilled onions and scallions. The duck had a mix of pieces, ranging from fatty to less so, and had a nice mix of textures. This was easily one of my favorites, though I liked it even more when paired with the ssamjang that arrived with the BBQ, as the sauce balanced the light fattiness. Arriving at a similar time was the last thing I couldn't eat, the Spicy Stir-Fried Baby Octopus on Iron Plate/Jjukkumi Cheolpan Bokkeu/철판쭈꾸비볶음, for $30.99. I couldn't try the octopus, but the portion was plentiful, and I had a bit of the noodles on the bottom after making sure there were no tentacles, as well as trying the sauce. The sauce was tasty, spicy, and very flavorful. We went with two of the Korean BBQ meats, one beef and one pork. My preference of the two was surprisingly the $49.99 Charcoal Grilled Marinated Beef Ribs/Yangnyeom Galbi/양념갈비. This also came with two veggies: kabocha squash and asparagus. The beef was extremely tender, had the perfect mix of fat and meat, and had only a light sweetness from the marinade. This was absolutely delicious and very much worth the price point. Also tasty was the Grilled Pork Belly/Samgyeopsal/삼겹살, for $36.95. This also came with a few things, including cabbage and a large mushroom. The pork belly was delicious, being just fatty enough and very tender as well, with a mild chew. The BBQ came with a few extra side dishes. This included a tasty steamed egg/Gyeran-jjim/계란찜, greens, an onion salad, ssamjang, salt, and a small boiling pot of soybean stew/doenjang jjigae. They were all tasty, though nothing particularly notable outside of the portions being generous. Also, at the end of the meal, they gave us some sujeonggwa. Not much for me to complain about this place. The food was very tasty overall, and the service was wonderful. I would go back and order a full beef BBQ set.
