Xi Top was highly recommended to us, and we were told to give it a chance despite some of the lower ratings on Yelp. I'm so grateful for this rec, because Xi Top has become our favorite BBQ place! There's 2 Xi Top restaurants - one with charcoal & one with gas stoves. It's easy to see why the charcoal side has more of wait; they are LEGIT in the wood charcoal that they use, and it adds more to the experience. We've been fairly lucky with wait times, but do expect to have to join the waiting list during the dinner rush. I've loved just about everything that we've tried here so far. Big Beef and beef skewers are a MUST. We wanted to try the marinated version of the big beef, but they were unfortunately sold out. The marinated short ribs were good too, though! Prices are super reasonable for the meat portions. Please don't skip out on the appetizers and sides - these are incredible. We LOVE the stir fried cabbage, and I was also really intrigued by the eggplant with chili sauce. Cold noodles were a skip - it doesn't hit the same way that korean cold noodles do. They also have this REALLY addicting house sauce (absolutely LOVE this) and they also give the usual skewer seasonings too. Service is super attentive, and they help with cooking all the meats. We haven't had anything that's been overcooked so far. Parking is difficult around the Murray Hill area, but it's worth making the trek here. read more

This BBQ spot really hit the spot! It's Northern Chinese Dongbei cuisine with a hint of Korean BBQ fusion, and it completely won me over. Maybe because I was starving. They have two locations right next door to each other. One side looks newly renovated, and the other side looks a bit older. We were seated on the older side with charcoal BBQ grills. Honestly, it doesn't matter which side you end up on, because the staff will be equally warm and attentive regardless. They were super helpful with selecting which meat to order since they ran out of the one we wanted and made us feel so welcome throughout the whole meal. We started with 东北大拉皮 (cold mixed vegetables with beef and sauce) as our appetizer and it was deliciously refreshing. Their spicy stir fried squid was another highlight: perfectly seasoned and great for snacking on between rounds of BBQ. For BBQ, we went with the marinated short ribs and soy sauce-marinated beef. The short ribs were my absolute favorite. Pairing it with a warm bowl of rice and their dipping sauce really hit the spot. After finishing the BBQ we still had room in our bellies, so we order beef skewers and mushrooms. I've had the lamb skewers here before, and the beef is wayyy better in my opinion. Finally found a charcoal place instead of a gas or electric skewer place. The flavors are great but the beef skewers were very small. The eggplant potato was definitely one of our favorite. We wish we were able to cook on the grill to control the temperature and when we want to eat it unfortunately we were not. Went for dinner on a Wednesday night around 6 and got a table on the charcoal BBQ side of the restaurant. Someone stood by the table cooking most of the time. We had two types of beef and oysters as well as lamb skewers. Everyone got a plate of cumin spices and a bowl of fresh herbs and sesame sauce for dipping. There a few bon chons as well. With my taste, I think it's just average, but my friends found it very delicious. If you have a chance, should try. The meat here is tender and not heavily marinated--mostly should dip it in sauce. It is a very popular spot, there is two stores to each other the difference is that one is charcoal and the other is electric grill. Came here on a Wednesday night around 7pm and didn't have to wait around for a table. In fact, it was actually pretty empty but quickly filled up the later it got. My friend and I were greeted by a friendly staff who offered us hot tea and took our order before offering us complimentary side dishes. (They're unlimited btw). The food was very good. We had a BBQ with beef, squid and oyster mushrooms. The bbq had a good flavor from the grilling and smoking itself, without needing marinades or seasoning. I really enjoyed the natural smokey flavor that the grilling imparted to the food. They also gave us a spice rub where you can dip your bbq items in. But I feel like the food had a good, full flavor even without dipping into the spices. We also had some vegetable dishes to complement the bbq. The vegetable dishes were cooked with the spicy cumin flavor which complemented the bbq very nicely. I liked that the dishes were not overwhelmingly spicy, but had a nice combination of spicy, and the more complex cumin flavors mixed together. This is legitimately the best Chinese bbq place in Flushing. They have consistent good quality with a fair price. The other Korean bbq place with charcoal usually is $10 more per meat. I think 2-3 orders for two people is more than enough. We ordered 5 and ended up taking half home. I strongly recommend Q1, Q2 and Q5. The beef skewers are good too. They never give you overly fatty pieces and the meat is not too lean to a point where it's stuck in your teeth. The sweet sour pork is good too (I prefer糖醋里脊 over 锅包肉, but it might be that I like ketchup more). Gopchang is also good because it's not dry. Their service is good too, but I have to admit on some days it's better than the others. This time the service is phenomenal- the server cooked our meat perfectly and even apologized for slightly burning one piece (I've been to too many places where they just really don't care). Located on a busy street filled with Korean restaurants, this place is quite popular even though it looks rather unassuming on the outside. By 6pm, there is already a wait on a Sunday night. There aren't many tables inside and tables are separated by wood dividers (because of COVID, I assume). All serveware are disposable, which seems pretty cheap to me. With proximity to many Korean restaurants, one might assume Xi Top BBQ offers Korean BBQ, but it's actually a northern Chinese style of BBQ. Unlike Korean BBQ, Xi Top BBQ emphasizes more on the quality and natural flavor of the meat, rather than marinating with spicy or sweet sauce. Their BBQ grill uses coal and someone comes with gloves and all to put the coal in. There aren't much meat options in their BBQ menu but their quality makes up for the lack of quantity. We ordered a couple of dishes/appetizers to go along with the BBQ -- stir fried pork intestines, stir fried veggies with seafood, spicy stir fried potato strips, and spicy cucumbers. Honestly, we were not impressed by any of these dishes. All of these were dishes we've made at home before and felt we could make it better. Despite saying this is not a Korean BBQ restaurant earlier, I would say Xi Top dishes have a fusion of Korean. Most of these appetizers/entrees have a Korean style sauce used to cook it. While the entrees were disappointing, the real winner of this place is the northern Chinese style bbq. We ordered all 3 types of beef on the limited bbq meat menu and the squid. The squid was soo good, we ordered it twice! They don't add any sauce to the squid, except a drizzle of chili oil and after the waitress grill it for us, the squid is tender and really have that squid flavor. All the meats were tender and high quality. They give their homemade chili dipping powder as a condiment, which I really liked. Overall, our bill came out to be about $300 after tax and tips for a table of 5. Pay with cash to avoid tax. Tried two dishes with eggplant: 酱茄子 (V4, eggplant with chili sauce) & 地三鲜 (V10, eggplant with chili and potato). The former is more savory and may be from soy bean paste (my guess). The latter is more flavorful. Also tried two dishes on sweet & sour pork: 锅包肉 (P1, deep fried pork with sweet & sour sauce) and 糖醋里脊 (P5, sweet fried pork tenderloin). The former's sourness may be from white vinegar, and the texture of the fried pork is more firm. The latter tastes closer to the popular sweet & sour in the U.S. Needless to say, the 大拉皮 (O4) is authentic as well.
