I'm extremely disappointed with this sushi place. I was a reglar customer and on December 30th I went for lunch with family who was visiting for the holidays. My aunt and I got terrible food poisoning with a spicy tuna sashimi salad. We were both extremely sick for 24 hours and it ruined our New Years Eve. When I called Magurogay to let them know the manager apologized. When I requested to be reimbursed for the $100 dollar lunch the owner said no and that he had enough insurance and I can make a claim. I find this terrible. It is not money it is the principal. Don't go to this place ever. I will make sure people know they can get very sick. read more

We have lived in the South Surrey/White Rock area since November of 2012 and haven't had much time to check out restaurants in the area, but thanks to a recommendation from "Jason" from the dog park where we take our dogs, he told us to check out Maguroguy. He said that the portions were large and that the food was worth it. HE WASN'T KIDDING!! The portions were large and well worth the amount we paid to have dinner. read more

Terrible customer service, very un-Japanese. Waited 5-10 mins with no greeting, avoiding eye contact, while the front entry became packed and staff continually passed by all parties waiting around at least 10 times, even after we made sure to stand at the desk to catch someone. Folks came in before us left behind us as well, after we said out loud that this type of service is def. not of an authentic Japanese food establishment and doesn't deserve our hard earned money. read more

They're food is good but nothing special compared to other Japanese restaurants. It is not good enough to have me return for their horrible service. My past visits here have been with slow service. My most recent experience was by far the worst and will not have me returning. Wednesday night and not a busy night by any means. My 2 friends and I sit for 20mins without any service (no attention whatsoever!). We finally flagged a server to take our order. 45mins later we were still waiting for our food and drinks. We called another server only to find out our order hadnt been placed. We talked with the manager but nothing came of it aside from a shrug and a sorry. Too bad that this experience and their service in general will not have us returning here. read more

Having read some of the reviews below, I was compelled to respond to the contrary in defense of this wonderful Asian restaurant. Maguroguy is a place that my wife and I go to at least once a week. We have tried every other Japanese spot in the vicinity and this is the best. The reason is because of their consistently excellent food and the welcoming, friendly atmosphere. They have never let us down. I can't imagine how they could improve. They all work so hard to make everyone happy. We certainly would never expect free appetizers as the person writing the review below. We have been there when it is busy and there is a line up at the door..and their business has grown substantially since they opened to the point that it might be wise to make a reservation. Keep up the great work and we wish you continued success ! read more

The last owner made amazing food. Since the new owner took over the food went way down hill. The sashimi I normally order went from beautiful cut to chopped into scraps. The sauces and plating are no where near what they used to be. What a disappointment:( this used to be my fav sushi restaurant. read more

Some of the top sushi in the lower mainland-with fantastic service-_feels like home

Tried this new place a couple days a and it is hands down the best in s. Surrey. My new favorite Japanese restaurant when I'm not also wanting the ocean view at the beach! read more

I think this place does Ok food. nothing amazing. not a huge fan of their service though. also I had a hair in my sushi..

I've been there once to dine in and once for takeout. Dining in was excellent. We took the servers recommendations and had a few delicious items including a few rolls and a noodle dish. They were very kid friendly too. Very reasonably priced. When we got takeout I believe we ordered the party sushi platter for 2. Unfortunately we were a little disappointed with it. There was more than enough food for 2 adults and one child but there were a couple unpalatable items. My advice would be to order a la carte. read more

The sushi was average. The service was slow. It took 15 minutes after ordering a bottle of wine for the waitress to respond that they ran out of that wine. We chose another bottle and our sushi made it out before the wine. read more

Almost everything is sweet, except for sashimi. It's more like a Korean cuisine rather than Japanese.:(

3 of us went there for dinner last night for dinner. Pros: GREAT food, good atmosphere, friendly people. Cons: Only one, service. Once our food was brought to us (1 plate first, then a few minutes later our 2nd and 3rd plate) we never saw our server again. We needed more water and napkins, couldn't be found and he never came back. We had to ask a different server for our cheque and the machine to pay. read more

This restaurant was pretty good. Place was very nicely decorated and cleaned nicely. Staff were friendly and welcoming. We ordered a party for two sushi, which was about 29 dollars and filled the two of us pretty good. Also ordered a volcano sushi, which had a mix of flavoured fish on top and bottom was more natural flavouring. They even lit a small tin of salt on fire as a part of the dish for decoration. Overall I was pleased and will return. read more

Amazing quality! Amazing staff! I come here all the time with family and friends and we never leave disappointed and never ever with an empty stomach. read more

My favourite sushi place! Their dishes are created with the perfect balance in mind. Our favourite dishes are the hot stone beef, the beef carpaccio, the riceless sushi haru maki. The staff are always so welcoming and there are so many more options to choose from. Will be back next week =) read more

Absolutely the best sushi in south Surrey/White Rock. Prices are average and the food is exceptional. The salmon rolls were the most beautiful salmon rolls I've ever seen nice and dark red, thick cut and full of flavour. It's always packed in there and for good reason. Stop reading reviews and just go there. read more

Good sushi for the price. Always fresh and the presentation is great. Sashimi is served on a bed of Ice. Service there needs to improve. Servers can be rude. read more

Best sushi in the South Surrey area and then some. I always get take out and it's quick. Eat here and you won't be disappointed.

The food here is simply fantastic. The menu carries different types of offering, from traditional sushi/rolls, to typical soba/udon, to affordable boats and bento boxes, and to something adventurous. By adventurous I mean the Hot Stone Beef, an amazingly delicious plate. It comes with raw beef cut in thin pieces, sesame sauce in separate dish, and a scorching hot oval-shaped stone. You place the raw beef on the stone grill, let it cook through, then dip them in the sesame sauce. It's both fun and amazingly delicious! We have people sitting next to us asking us about the dish almost every time. :) The only drawback of this place is that it is super busy. If you want to reduce wait time, you HAVE TO make reservations. If you don't, you're looking at minimal 20-30 minute wait time. read more

First time coming here because lots said it's the best sushi place. I was quite disappointed. First of all, our waitress barely spoke English, second, they had no black rice, third, I asked for honey mustard sauce on top of my roll (lots of sushi places do this) and they didn't have any, and fourth, I ordered a Philadelphia Roll, which had less than a drop of cream cheese. I ate 2 and thought to myself, oh they brought me the wrong roll. So I told the waitress I ordered a philly roll not a salmon/avocado roll, she replied saying no this is philly roll and if I wanted, she could bring me a side of cream cheese... ? Umm really? Needless to say i was not impressed.. :( read more

This place was delicious! I've eaten here twice now and I will definitely be back! Well worth the drive across the boarder. Their sushi was so fresh and the service was great as well. read more

Yumiko.A " Maguroguy" is the best place to eat for sushi and cooked food. Everything I ordered is so so so tasty!! I go to the Japanese restaurant all over,Downtown,Richmond, Burnaby,,,,.But Maguroguy is the best. I am so lucky to live in south surrey,I don't have to go downtown anymore !! I don't know some people are complaining about service . I never had a bad experience over there. Actually when I go there, doesn't matter busy or not,the stuff makes me so happy. First service, excellent food ,excellent smile and excellent price. I go there whenever my friends come to my place. Everybody is so so happy all the time. Happy eating !! read more

This is definitely my new favourite sushi restaurant. This restaurant is always busy so plan to wait especially if you are dining in Friday or Saturday. The food is definitely worth the wait. A little tip before you order is to look up at the tv screen because they have their dishes displayed on there. I personally love the spicy salmon sashimi (off the menu) and the tuna tataki. The hot stone beef is also amazing!! You will not ever find another sushi restaurant better than this on this side of the Port Mann. Finally a sushi restaurant that can compete with Richmond and Vancouver. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!! read more

Definitely the best sushi place in town! You can't go wrong with this place I have been way too many times and I recommend the spicy seafood yakiudon! all their rolls are exquisite and always comes out like art work love the place definitely a must go! read more

Beautifully decorated.. I like the food but I don't want to go back. The waitress made me feel rush to order and mopping and serving food at the same time. I visited a few more time but she always there and same tone of rude manner read more

Best sushi around! Prices and portions very good. If you love oysters, this place serves em up for under $2 per. You wont be disappointed!

Ok. Ok food. TERRIBLE service. We waited 20 mins after being sat for drinks and our waitor could barely speak english. Very disappointed. Waste of money and time. Would not recommend at all. Rude workers, they spilt water on my friends lap. A little pricey too. read more

First few times I went there I was in love with it. Since then the customer service has just gotten worse every time I go there; long wait, not very polite, had to ask 3 times to get some water... It's kind of upsetting since their food is actually quite good. Hopefully it'll improve in the future. read more

Pretty good sushi especially for the price. The oysters were also delicious! I recommend the Crazy Roll, it was different than any sushi I've ever tried, but very tasty! Fast service at lunch as well, we had our food inside of five minutes easily. read more

Best sushi I've had in the lower mainland. We eat here once a week and it's always consistent. It's very busy so it's best to go early or book a reservation. The quality of the fish is good. Tuna bites are a delicious starter. read more

A MUST-VISIT restaurant - the best Japanese place in the area. The food is always fresh and flavorful, the portions are generous, the prices reasonable and the service is excellent. There are several original dishes that were created by the owner, and I've yet find something I didn't like at Maguroguy. I highly recommend this place for anyone who enjoys Japanese/Asian cuisine or would like to give it a try. The sushi master is very friendly, and pays very close attention to the quality of his dishes. I will definitely be visiting Maguroguy again soon! read more

My new favourite sushi restaurant! The food is absolutely fabulous, very fresh, beautiful presentations. The staff is extremely pleasant and attentive. Big smiles and happy to answer questions. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing. I have nothing bad to say, everything was perfect. I have guests from out of the province staying with me, and this was their first sushi experience in BC. I am so thankful that their (and my) experience was so perfect!! I will be returning, over and over!! I won't go anywhere else. read more

My husband and I went to Maguroguy to try their new menu. The Korean ribs in a pot was excellent - can easily feed 2 - 3 people. Order 2 different type of rolls and sashimi, our party of 5 were filled up. Very fresh, very tasty and ambiance very cosy, and service great. read more

This place truly is as good as it gets. I don't need to tell the regulars as they have followed Hojin and his clan from Ladner to Whiterock. The food is art. Delicious art. The freshness and variety is beyond compare. It is my favourite restaurant and not a birthday or family celebration goes by without a trip to Marguroguy. Advice for first timers would be to order what is on the walls. Try something new. Maguro Age Roll is out of this world. Come hungry. I can't say enough about how much I LOVE this place. I don't hesitate to drive from Richmond any time any one suggests it. I would probably go to the moon for the Ebi May and Spicy Tuna Sashimi Salad....drool. Seriously check this place out. You won't regret it!!! read more

Food is good. Price is bit expensive for the quality. Service is literally hell. I visited here quite amount of time but I left there very uncomfortable feeling after meal every single time. I think she is a manager or something whatever because she is always there working in main hall from the beginning. And that woman is very rude and unpleasant. I wonder why the owner keeps that lady working. She acts like you will come again anyway even though I am rude because we have good food. Well...I hope she knows now that attitude makes me not going there anymore. I wish I can give -100 score but 1 star is the lowest. If you don't care about quality of service, this is average good place. There are some more sushi places in south surrey which have way better taste and service with reasonable price. read more

Above average quality food. Poor service depending on your server. Even if you phone in ahead and made reservations, they still won't make it ready especially on weekends and busy nights. Middle aged lady at the counter will not guarantee your experience there to be fully served, so heads up. The rest of the staff are generally kinder, especially the younger ones and the Japanese lady. There seems to be a major lack of staff personnel in comparison to how busy they are. Definitely agree that staff needs a morale boost from the look of expression and their enthusiasm. The rating of your food experience will much be dependent on which waitress serves you and how busy the night is. And mostly importantly (when you are being served by a friendlier staff), ask for recommendations for they will give you better suggestions according to their knowledge about the food. read more

Been a frequent customer for past 4 years. A turn of event this past Thursday night with the manager serving us. We were given tuna sashimi instead of salmon sashimi, and upon arrival of food, there were absolutely no effort in the manager's part to resolve issue. Manager's attitude was total 'asian' style (BTW, I am Asian myself). When asked for the owner to speak to regarding our dining experience, a 5 min wait landed a different waitress telling us the owner is siding the manager, period. In another word, WE dont need your business. This would likely be different if you are non asian, so it might not apply to you. What I should have done was to pack my family up and go elsewhere. I won't be coming back here, that is for sure. Otherwise food is decent. read more

This was excellent service and sushi. The same family owned a different sushi place in Delta and we were happy to find them again. Worth the drive. Great value for the quality. read more

Great Sushi here everything was very fresh. That explains the lineup to get a table but well worth the wait.
