We went yesterday for the Thanksgiving "buffet" which as it turned out, wasn't a buffet at all. We were incredibly disappointed. Most of the food was not family friendly or anything kids would eat. Nor was most of it "Thanksgiving" food. Our plates went back hardly touched, as did plates from most other patrons around us. One course consisted of a small tenderloin- my husbands was cold and completely raw inside. They forgot about us and didn't bring out our main entree (which was the only real thanksgiving food-turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes). We had to finally ask for it. It was also a major disappointment. There was only a 2-3 bites of stuffing and sweet potatoes, and maybe 3-4 bites of turkey. There were no potatoes or gravy which was also incredibly disappointing. Considering the increased price from years past, we really expected more from the experience. All in all, we left hungry and disappointed- not to mention feeling like we'd been majorly ripped off. I realize that Covid probably played a roll in them deciding to do a plated dinner rather than a buffet this year, but we should have been told when we made the reservation. They should also have considered the fact that they would be feeding families with children, all of whom were expecting Thanksgiving dinner- when planning their menu. We will likely not go again after this experience. read more

Magleby's is probably the nicest restaurant in Springville and one of the nicest in the greater Utah County area. They have a great lunch menu with daily specials and lots of different options. I've eaten here a few times and generally been pleased with my food. The portions are generous, usually leaving plenty to take home as leftovers. Sometimes the service can be a little slow but I think that is more of a management and scheduling problem that could easily be fixed. As far as price is concerned Magleby's is by no means cheap, but I think given the price and the portions they offer a decent value for your bucks. read more

I am surprised how many great reviews I am writing lately! Most of them have been for grab-and-seat places. It has been a very long time since I was happy while writing a review at a restaurant with table service. It seems like the art (and yes it really is an art) of table/waiter service has gone down hill, and gets a bad rap because of it. This is NOT the case at Magleby's. Service: From the moment my wife and I walked it, we had at least two people greet us and working to get us an available table. We were immediately greeting by someone who was not our waiter, but wanted to help us get settled while our waiter was finishing up with a large group. From that moment on, we were treated with respect and reverence. The staff here (even the bussers who look to be 15 years old) were all quiet, reserved and willing to help each other whenever needed. It really was like watching a dance. Our server Stormy checked in with us regularly throughout the meal, explained menu items when we had questions, was perfectly polite and flawless in his duties. Food: We started with the Baked Brie appetizer, which came with roasted garlic, nuts, fruit, sour-dough crostini and a honey chutney that was to die for. My wife and I have decided that this is the single best appetizer we have had. Main Course: We both ordered the Filet Medallions with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Vegetables. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium-rare (insert rant about 90% of high-end steakhouses who can't even seem to do this). The entree was very filling and I ate every gluttonous bite. Dessert: We both had the cheesecake, which was so rich and tasty I forgot about the meal I just ate and downed the whole thing (the wife too). The cooks here know what they are doing and seem to really care about what they put out into the world. Over-all: I have a new favorite place to take my wife for any celebration/special occasion, and that says something since it is a little over an hour to get here from home. This is a $21 "chicken Marsala" dish. If you're wondering why the sauce looks creamy, it's because It was cream of mushroom soup w/ a hint of Marsala wine. The restaurant even admitted it. The chicken was too breaded. This was.a cheap chicken fried steak meal at some truck stop slapped with fine dining prices. The salmon was over cooked and the soup did not taste fresh. The waitress was wonderful. She was the "diner's" saving grace. But don't pay that much for canned food. LOL. read more

Last night was the worst service I have ever had in my years of going to Magelbys. 20 minutes just to get water and I had to ask the hostess, because our waitress forgot about us. 40 minutes into our wait, I finally went to the desk and asked for paper so I could take our order and give it to somebody in the kitchen. They found my waitress and she came over and took our order. Computer issue is no excuse for the lack of customer service. Everyone that came after us got their food in a decent amount of time. When we finally got our, it looked like it had been sitting for awhile. So disappointed with Magelby's in Springville. read more

Breakfast here is crazy. All i can absorb pancakes or waffles and great other dishes as well. So good that when I learned that they did dinner I had to go back the next day. Dinner I ordered the tilapia that was not nearly as good as the breakfast, but others in my group (6 of us) all had great dinners. We were so pleased that we ended up having them cater our thanksgiving dinner as well. Did I mention that they have pies and other baked goods? Dangerously tasty. read more

I decided to introduce my husband to one of my favorite restaurants. Unfortunately they were not up to par. The food was excellent as usual, but the service left something to be desired. We had to ask twice for water refills. Normally they bring out their famous rolls but we were told they had run out and waited quite awhile for them. On top of that, a man in a t-shirt and shorts wearing sandals with socks, walked past the dinner crowd into the service area and helped himself to a roll and drink refill before any of the tables were given any. The staff didn't blink so I can assume he was a family member of the restaurant's owners. This is a nicer restaurant so to see this man walk in so casually dressed and helping himself to food and drink was kind of a shock. I'm hopeful next time I visit will not be such a disappointment. It left a bad impression on my husband. read more

I went to the all-you-can-eat buffet on Friday.. first off the place is always clean, I love the atmosphere. Second the crab legs were absolutely horrible...I even tried them Steamed and that didn't fix the problem.. these crab legs were rubbery tasting... like they been cooked Frozen and thawed over and over again I can go to my local Smiths buy some expensive crab there come home steam it and it tastes a million times better I expected a lot more out of these guys... unbearable for the money.... it should be way better crap sincerely Vegas... the best thing on the buffet table which were small was the sweet crusted salmon with the mustard sweet sauce on top The veal ravioli and the prime rib, everything else was mediocre not really worth the price. The dessert bar was really good... too bad the chef at that dessert bar couldn't go find some better crab legs and make them LOL... My favorite dessert was actually the chocolate warm pudding bread it looked disgusting but was absolutely to die for. My friends and I arrived at Magleby's in Springville at about six on a Friday evening to celebrate a birthday. We stood in the entranceway for a few minutes, admiring the spacious seating area, the harpist, and the ample bakery offerings while waiting for the hostesses acknowledge us. When we called to make our reservation, we'd been warned that the restaurant anticipated an 80-person party that evening, but it seemed the party was running late and the staff offered to seat us in the more 'chic' grotto area downstairs. The atmosphere was eclectic and intimate, very nice. They served us drinks right away - most appreciated. They took our orders and described every dish in mouth-watering (and wallet-opening) detail. The grotto's menu is limited to choice steaks and seafood and many of its dishes are determined by market price; it was a challenge to remember the prices of the dishes as we deliberated. The bread, fragrant with herbs and salt, came quickly and was served hot, if slightly toothsome. It would have benefitted from a couple extra minutes in the oven... and we would have benefitted from eating it from bread plates, which were not supplied. The tablecloth was our plating device. The calamari was crunchy and fried to perfection. We shared it as we waited for our entrees. A cold draft blew every time the kitchen door opened, but the company of good friends kept us warm. Our salads arrived. We requested silverware, which the table lacked. They delivered it quickly. Most disappointing: the entrees so carefully described by the waitstaff. I lucked out with my prime rib, which they crusted in spice. The New York strip, ordered medium rare, lacked the tenderness we anticipated from the price tag and caliber of the restaurant. It was overcooked in the center. Our friend's baseball cut sirloin, one of his favorite cuts, which he also ordered medium rare, was served brown-grey internally with only a thin sliver of pink. He optimistically continued eating it despite its being overdone, hoping in vain to find a rarer part, though he conceded that the accompanying sauce was as special as the waitstaff described. The halibut was ok, as was the surf and turf. The garlic smashed potatoes tasted delicious but my potatoes had lumps. These weren't "rustic," they were large lumps. The waitstaff opted to blame the overdone meat on a poorer quality meat delivery, though at the start of the meal, they had boasted the restaurant's use of only the finest prime cuts. it felt like a cop out. Thankfully, the friend who'd made our reservation had also reserved an entire cheesecake for the end of the meal. I am not a dessert person, but the cheesecake was sublime: silky smooth, not cloying or overly sweet, with a sugary crumble crust. The raspberry sauce that accompanied it left everyone at our table sighing and making little noises of deep appreciation. It was the saving grace for an otherwise underwhelming meal. Perhaps they were stressed about the anticipated party; perhaps they were understaffed. Maybe someone just fell into the weeds that night. But, for the price and ambience boasted, the restaurant's spotty service and execution left much to be desired on that particular evening. read more

This restaurant tries to be a fine dining steakhouse and ultimately I think they succeed . . . at cafe-bistro style diner. The service is friendly but uninformed, the food was okay and in some cases terrible, and the atmosphere most closely resembles Greek cafe. I was quite disappointed that they were out of prime rib at 7 p.m. Prime rib was the primary reason I made the trip to Springville to try Mageleby's. Instead we tried other entrees and were disappointed. We briefly spoke with the manager on the way out to praise our server and express our disappointment with the nearly inedible entrees. He listened to our opinion, but in my opinion he lacked sincerity and concern. Ultimately, it appeared he was used to customers disliking the flavor of the food and poor quality, and he didn't have much to offer in way of empathy for a wasted evening and wasted money. CUSTOMER SERVICE Our waitress was great. She was very friendly and welcoming. She was quick and helpful with our requests and needs. She was relatively new to the restaurant and was not entirely familiar with the menu, but she was willing to go find answers. As far as she is concerned she did great. As for the restaurant, they need to train their staff and provide training for each item on the menu to present a professional and polished staff. ATMOSPHERE The atmosphere was eclectic and interesting while oddly misplaced. It reminded me of a Greek diner in Queens, NY. The food and menu do not match the decor and atmosphere. MENU The menu appears to present fine dining and top quality steaks. I found the menu easy to navigate and the choices appetizing. We ordered: baked brie appetizer, house salads, filet oscar, land and sea petite filet, chocolate cake (total bill $81 + tax and tip) Appetizer The baked brie was presented well and tasted okay. The plate contents was mismatched. The brie could have been a higher quality aged brie and/or more ripe brie. Salads The salads were uninspired and relatively plain. Though the house dressings were well made and tasted good. Entree SALT!!!! Really, a day later and salt is still the only thing I can taste. I am avoiding anything with salt for fear of bringing back the brine seasoning flavor that my entree had. My wife's steak was well-done (ordered medium rare) My steak was perfectly cooked (ordered medium rare) The rice was terrible (unless you like rice o roni which I don't) The crab was . . . well . .. . I think it was pickled cabbage slathered in salt - a lot of salt. Dessert The chocolate cake is always good. VALUE The entire meal for two came to $81 plus tax and tip. The steaks are very overpriced for the quality and lack of kitchen knowledge, or more likely the managements lack of willingness to listen to the kitchen staff, of how to season an entree. Assuming the entire meal was not ruined by the box of salt served with my entree, this would completely meet my expectations for a corner cafe with corner cafe pricing. This was not fine dining and this was not steakhouse quality food. Management and ownership need to listen to their culinary experts regarding complementing flavors and proper seasonings. Unless something seriously changes at Magleby's, I will only return for their chocolate cake desserts. read more

I'm between a two and a three here and let me explain why. First we got the Bruschetta, something we love. It was literally a couple of crostini with shredded mozzarella out of a bag on top. Here's the kicker, for $8 freaking bucks, you serious? Then I ordered the Halibut Oscar and my wife got the wonderful halibut. You want to know what the literal difference between the two was? Mine has some hollandaise sauce and some lump crab on top. Same size of halibut as my wife's, just a little bit of sauce and crab on top, the price difference? Her's was $18, mine was $28! A ten dollar delta for sauce and airtime bit of crab. My father in law ordered the prime rib. After 30 minutes of waiting for our food they came and let him know that they were all out, 30 minutes! I was disappointed, I used to work at Magleby's fresh in Draper about a decade ago, so I really looked forward to the food I had remembered from years ago. This wasn't it. read more

I have loved Magleby's food for many years. Their cheese rolls are wonderful. The restaurant is beautiful. The staff was too concerned about getting things done rather than being considerate. I don't know what has happened to this place but it is extremely poor now hugely overpriced horrible products we ordered a ribeye steak, medium rare. It came out not even pink in about a quarter inch thick which is just ridiculous. They're famous desserts are terrible three times in a row now we've ordered them or gone by and pick them up. They're all frozen for months and months thawed out. theyre very dry, dense and just terrible to try and eat. It's ruined two parties that we've had at our house and we picked up desserts from there. They were absolutely horrible. Everybody took one bite, looked at each other and said no. Very disappointing. We should have gained a clue when we went by on a Saturday night at 7 o'clock without reservations and got right in and got a table. We should've known right then the word is out and this place is now terrible do not spend any money at this restaurant you'll be ignore mostly disappointment disappointment read more

I've been here twice for company work parties. The food was okay, not good but okay. I might be giving it more credit than is deserved because it was free, and free food usually tastes better. So that's not saying much. Now, I'll admit that when they are serving an entire party of 50+ people, they probably have to cut some corners that smaller groups wouldn't experience. I like magleby's. It's not my favorite, but i can tell you that it is one of my mom and dad's favorite restaurants. First the good: The made in house raspberry salad dressing is great. When i was pregnant, i kept craving it and asked if i could buy some to take home. Yes, you can buy it. Woohoo! The chocolate cake is rich, decadent, and gigantic. Honestly, too rich for me to eat more than a few bites, but everyone else LOVES it. My husband likes their burger and I like their pulled turkey avocado sandwich. They are what you would expect- just good, classic sandwiches. I also like their "cross fit certified" salmon, which is delicious. Its a super simple dish with great flavors. Oh, and the French toast is yummy. A classic breakfast food, done really, really well with fresh strawberries and whipped cream! Lastly, the atmosphere in the grotto area downstairs is lush and feels good on a hot day if you need to to cool down even more, their raspberry lemonade is nice and refreshing. Some of things i don't like about magleby's Springville is the Art City Nachos. They are really sweet. Not like sweet pork nachos from costa vida or cafe rio, but just...too sweet. My husband LOVES nachos and he was disappointed. Also, the blackened salmon with the creamy dill sauce was not good. The sauce overpowered the salmon and tasted...outdated. They need to reinvent that one. I don't go to magleby's very much anymore because my husband thinks their food is a little old-fashioned. However, my parents love the place and go all the time. I'm somewhere in the middle. I think their food is most appealing to the more mature crowd. read more

The downstairs restaurant part has a WONDERFUL ambiance. Beautiful. The food is good too, not a wide selection, but it's so nice and cute. Great place for dates! The only thing I will say is they told us we couldn't have more breadsticks (which are AMAZING) because they were going to run out . Tables/chairs weren't comfortable (booths would be cozier). Only one bathroom for women. The building was cold and drafty but beautiful inside and outside. Parking was decent.
