Overall 4 of 5 but rounding up to 5 :)…read more 3 of us had a late lunch around 2 PM. They are 80% full however gave us a very small table and it felt very Squizzy. We had to ask for a bigger table and was led towards the end. Very interesting menu, we had the pu'er tea, which is not very commonly offered in the Chinese restaurants in the area. Love the teapot presentation and overall the branding effort. We tried to order the soup dumpling but was told something wasn't working properly and it's going to take over an hour so next time. Got wontons in chili oil, love the flavor. The mushu pork, a little bit too sweet for me. And the beef chow fun, just can't go wrong with that, and the szichuan pot with cumin lamp. I think this more authentic Chinese but my husband felt the lamb was too oily. I requested to get the little cute cat cup for my daughter's lemonade order and they said yes, so it was a very cute touch. Very happy with the visit definitely a lot of potential we will be back.

A Monday evening dinner at Lazy Sister in South Norwalk revealed an establishment caught between…read moreinventive kitchen ambitions and glaring housekeeping oversights. Sitting near the bar area immediately introduced a troubling environmental distraction: a genuinely noticeable swarm of flies and gnats hovering about, a clear indicator of lapses in sanitation and deep cleaning that significantly hobbled the dining experience. The menu offers its share of redemption, though strategy is required. The appetizer sampler platter is surprisingly massive, but it leans heavily into a barrage of fried food; unless you arrive starving, it is an easy skip. The true highlight arrived with the Mongolian beef--a decidedly modern twist on the classic, featuring beautifully caramelized vegetables and tender, expertly cooked beef packed with stellar flavor. Yet, culinary execution cannot entirely rescue a dining room plagued by uninvited winged guests. A mixed bag that ultimately leaves a sour note.

Their ordering system is QR code based which I'm not really a fan of but the food did come out fast! The show stoppers were the crab Rangoon croquettes, Karaage onigiri and the yuzu bar. I only tried one cocktail which was the whassup and personally I did not love it. The burnt honey called to me but the wasabi tonic was extremely overpowering. I also felt the chimichurri on the pork belly yakimono was overpowering as well, but a lot of their other items are fantastic and maybe it was an off day for those items! I'd definitely return as there's so many things to try still!! I'm still thinking about the yuzu bar!

I'm no foodie but I am Chinese/Japanese and can appreciate finer things in life when I see it. This place meet and exceeded my expectations. The wonderful speak-easy tamaki-ya room in the back is warmly lit and held at a nice volume, much quieter than the izakaya bar in the front. For small bites we had the Beet n Hijiki salad (highly recommend!), Agedashi tofu, and Torched Maine uni. For hand-rolls I had the Spanish Mackerel, Hokkaido Scallops, Ocean Trout, BBQ Eal & Foie Gras, and Cucumber ume. My wife had the Maine Uni, Hamachi, and Botan Ebi. Everything was good, but there were quite a few that were very good, and there were two that, for me, were the best that I've ever had in recent memory. For the Spanish Mackerel Chef Taibe put an interesting spin on it by topping it off with a traditional Chinese ginger and scallion garnish used in a tender chicken dish. It works, it balances out the briny taste of Spanish Mackerel... which is great... unless you LOVE the briny, savory, mineral, metallic, umami taste of fresh Spanish Mackerel :) The Hokkaido Scallops was, by quite a large margin, the best scallop dish I've ever had. The tender sweetness of the fresh scallop combined with a brown butter kewpie (how American!) and yuzu tobiko sauce swimmingly. Texture, temperature, taste, all perfect. I like eel and I love Unaju. But by far the biggest surprise was the BBQ Eal & Foie Gras (see pic). This dish alone warrants a culinary course. On the face of it, bbq, eel, foie gras all sets you up for something rich, filling, heavy. But when I bit into the unassuming hand roll, it was the lightest bite of Japanese rice/seafood/seaweed/liver/sauce combo I've ever had. Turns out Chef Taibe prepared the sauce from scratch using five+ different spices, and prepared the foie gras au torchon. I could go on, but suffice to say, this was one of the best bites I've ever had. By contrast, I thought I was going to close out with the cucumber ume roll, but compared to the eel and foie gras, the ume actually felt more overpowering. Perhaps if they cut back on the generous amount of ume paste... (Worthy mention: Chef Taibe presents the nori in a separate envelope. This seemingly simple step is crucial to the taste and mouthfeel of the hand roll. It provides a wonderful fresh crisp crunch to every bite and it does indeed make a difference. He mentioned he sources a special nori but I forgot the details, just know that it's really good) My wife loves uni, and I'll let her describe her experience (which she won't) but it was so good she had to order a second one. As if you need more convincing, we had a great experience and I think you will too. Bravo Chef, well done

Blind Rhino Milford: A Sports Fan's Dream Come True!…read more For anyone on the hunt for the perfect venue to watch a game in Milford, the newly opened Blind Rhino at 21 Daniel St. is an absolute must-visit! This lively spot has taken over the former Eli's Tavern, and the excitement surrounding it is palpable. Earlier in the day, while strolling with our dog, we couldn't help but notice the buzz about Blind Rhino. After completing our invigorating 3-mile walk, we hurried home, eager to dive into this new sports haven. Upon entering, we were immediately enveloped by the vibrant atmosphere--crowded, loud, and filled with the irresistible aroma of wings and spirited conversations. If you're a devoted New York Knicks or Pittsburgh Steelers fan, this place is basically a new home away from home! With TVs strategically positioned throughout the restaurant and a mean a lot of TV's , you can catch every thrilling moment of the game, whether it's a jaw-dropping slam dunk or a nail-biting last-minute touchdown. Now, a word about parking--while it can be a bit of a challenge in Milford, those willing to take a short stroll from the town center will find themselves at this sports paradise in no time, likely faster than a Steelers linebacker can sack a quarterback. And being right across from the Stonebridge, a Milford staple. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that they were running a happy hour special--$5 beers and ciders! And discounted appetizers. In the spirit of supporting local businesses, I chose a Tribus Benjie, which paired perfectly with our meal. To kick things off, we ordered a round of dry rub chicken wings that were spicier than a Knicks fan's reaction to a missed call. These wings were not only tender but also bursting with flavor, setting a high bar for the rest of our dining experience. Now, let's talk about my main course--the Cheese Steak. This delectable sandwich was piled high with thinly-sliced ribeye, sweet Vidalia onions, and a generous portion of new American cheese ( as they posted on the menu ) . It was so good that I almost forgot I was in Connecticut and not at a bustling eatery in Philadelphia! My dining companion opted for the Lomo wrap, which was a delightful mix of grilled ribeye, sautéed red onions, and tomatoes, all wrapped up with fries and drizzled with a zesty cilantro sauce. Who knew fries could be so revolutionary? Both sandwiches came accompanied by homemade fries that were perfectly crispy and delightfully salty. A special shoutout goes to our server, Ashley, who was as cheerful as a Steelers fan celebrating a touchdown. Her friendly and attentive service truly enhanced our experience. Now, let's address the intriguing name of the establishment--Blind Rhino. We couldn't help but wonder if there's a fascinating story behind it. Is it a nod to the quirky side of sports culture, or perhaps a reference to an adventurous tale? Whatever the origin, it certainly piques curiosity and adds a unique charm to the place! In summary, if you're looking to escape the confines of your home, indulge in delectable pub grub, and cheer for your favorite sports teams, make your way to Blind Rhino! With no bad seats in sight and a lively atmosphere, you're in for a fantastic time. Let's go Knicks! Let's go Steelers!
