The pizzas(pies in east apparently) were great according to my friends. They looked pretty good too. I got the roasted cauliflower salad and the another salad and they were pretty new and interesting. Would've loved it if they roasted the cauliflower a little more cuz it literally felt like they threw a whole cauliflower on the plate...the sauce/hummus that it came with was yum though. Pizzas were really good. A bit pricy but service and the vibe of the place was very nice! Definitely a relaxed hangout spot. read more

I'll start be saying we all wanted to like this place. We ordered 3 pies and a salad. The salad was extremely spicy which was odd and not mentioned in the description at all. Not one of us liked it. 3 different pies, all soupy in the middle and flavorless. The only thing worse was the staff, when I asked the young man who brought us out our pizzas for something, he shrugged so I asked him if my request for a drizzle of hot honey on the arrival goat cheese fig pie was okay which was met with another shrug and an added eye roll. He took the pizza back to the oven and talked with 3 coworkers for my request and all three turned to stare at our table. They came back and said they had no honey, which was clearly marked in the ingredients of another pie on the menu. Our server looked miserable and her service was terrible. No wonder we were pretty much there only people in the place. Also, the pizza guy was creepy and stared at us the majority of the time. Never again, especially for $150 bill. read more

Short version: Awesome design, incredible staff and service, and even better food and drinks! Long version below for those who want details! Location: This is a brand new place in the Brim & Crown apartment complex. Cool modern industrial design, with a mix of bar seating, booths, and high- and low-top tables. Sitting at the bar it didn't feel crowded even when the restaurant was fully seated. Food: They have salads and a raw bar, but we skipped those and went straight for the pizza! Great menu of options including a BYO pizza. They have the classics but this menu is full of modern takes. We got the Fig Jam (goat cheese, bacon, caramelized onion, and arugula) first, which was stunning. Great balance of ingredients, thin crust with the perfect texture, and full of flavor. We somehow were still hungry after a whole pizza and got the Lenguizza (ricotta, beef tongue, arugula, garlic, and truffle vinaigrette), which was even BETTER! Drinks: Plenty of wine and beer options, with a small fully original cocktail menu; I'm sure they could make whatever standard stuff you'd like. We got a draft cider and the Ligurian Mojito, which you HAVE to try if you like a slightly sweeter cocktail (it has limoncello). Service: We went on Tuesday. The guy who greeted us (potentially the manager) was friendly and warm, and as the night went on I saw him check on tables when the waitstaff was busy. We sat at the bar, where Hyman was fantastic start to finish. Recommendations when we wanted it, checked in when we had empty plates or glasses, and gave us space throughout the night when we were obviously OK. 10/10 across the board; planning to go back ASAP! read more

Delicious pie! They seemed to provide as much of your selected toppings as will fit on the pizza. I enjoyed 2 Fresh IPA's. We arrived early about 5:00. We had reservations. No one there when we sat down. Boy did that change fast!. I would suggest reservations anytime after 5-5:30 Love the place- Two thoughts: Parking is a concern. There seems to be plenty, but you need to take care not to park in Railroad reserved areas Secondly- we had a great meal and fun being there, the bar also looked like fun. No question for me that this place will be measurably BETTER as the weather warms and outdoor seating when this restaurant goes into "open air" mode. It's apparently set up to be that way. First visit was great! Casual atmosphere with Raw Bar, Salads and brick oven pizza. We ordered a specialty cocktail and a craft Pilsner. Both were excellent. Amazing Copps Island Oysters and an unique and excellent Brussels/ Caesar Salad came out quickly. Brick oven pizzas followed and were also great! Overall a great experience. I loved the vibe I got when I walked in. There are 3 round couches that can easily sit 5 with a table that seats up to 3 more people. There are a dozen or so smaller tables and a bar with seating. Large clear garage doors allow daylight to come in and on warmer days they will open them and add additional outdoor seating. The staff was very friendly. It is a great place to hand out with friends. We had pizza. They have some raw bar selections and some salad selections. The pizza are all 13 inches and thin on the bottom but a nice crust around the side. One of the better crusts I have had in awhile. We ordered a regular cheese, a Phantom pie and The Bruce. The cheese was good. Nice crust, sauce was good and nice blend of cheese. Could use a little more sauce for me but most would like it the way it is. The Phantom has anchovies, garlic and EVOO. It was a little salty because of the anchovy but it was still good. The Bruce was less pizza and more like an appetizer. It had alot of parmesan on it and some clams. I love parmesan so I enjoyed it and the lemon came thru at times for a great taste. I think this pizza is very flexible. Besides the clams I think shredded chicken would be great on it too. I also had a pint of Maritime lager which I really enjoyed. It paired well with the pizzas. Overall it is a great place to hang out and grab something light to eat and wash it down with a couple of beers or wine. It would be a great place to stop on the way back from the beach. Amazing , I mean like REALLY REALLY GOOD za! Crust was excellent! Great atmosphere, very open airy (safe) and hip vibe. Yet still cozy. Watch them make the pizza from a cozy booth with pillows and a table shaped like a pizza spatula thingy. Loved the No Worries IPA, salads were delish! Great service and ambience. Menu reasonably priced. The crust was a 10/10. Think the bottom of pie could maybe be thicker as it might prevent some of the pies from feeling soggy. Salad pizza was a miss. Salad on top of cheese pizza. Only places I've seen do salad pizza well seem to skip the cooked cheese and I suspect put the pizza in a fridge to cool it off before adding salad. Margarita was good. Came here for dinner after a very disappointing experience at another restaurant, and we were not disappointed. First off the gentlemen who greeted us as we walked in was very friendly, pleasant and fun. He asked us if the table he had was acceptable (it was) and seated us. Service was quick and attentive but now overbearing. The restaurant has what appears ot be a true Italian pizza oven. I am not sure whether it is gas, coal or wood, I didn't look but I can say it makes really good pizza. The only advice I would give is to let the pizza cook a little bit longer as while the outer part of the pie was solid, the inner section pie crust drooped. The sauce, cheese and toppings on both my pie, and my girlfriends pie were excellent and quality. They have a very nice beer, wine and cocktail selection with something for about everyone. The menu has a great selection of classic italian pizzas and some very creative ideas. And of course, you can BYOP (build your own pizza). The only really negative comment I have is that its LOUD. The music there was quite loud and made having a conversation a bit difficult. But even with that, the food and service were so good that it we will be back again. read more

Usually really good but not today. Added chicken to the fig pie and it was a joke. Hair sized strands of dried out pulled chicken that you could hardly see and definitely couldn't be tasted. Plus the fig was less then usually and the crust was burnt. I guess the chef was new on this pie. It was actually horrible. read more

I ordered pick up from here this week. It was nothing but amazing. I have celiac disease so when I have pizza it has to be gluten free. We called and they perfectly met expectations. I ordered a plain cheese pizza not expecting much from it. But I was wrong it was the best gluten free pizza I've had. Just had dinner on a Friday night tonight. We had made reservations early today and there was only outdoor seating for 7pm but heard good things about this place so we decided to go. Seated promptly beautiful space got our drinks fast our salad came out with the drinks but the pizza did take one hour. I will not lie I was getting frustrated BUT it was so damn good they redeemed themselves. We had a cheese pie a pepperoni pie and a garlic and meatball. It was 2 adults 3 kids and we all enjoyed everything. The good part of the wait was the kids ran around while we waited which was nice. Definitely will go back for a date night or at a not peak dinner hour. I really was getting hangry during the wait but the food made up for it. I do suggest they get a bigger oven considering how many take out orders we saw come after we placed our order. Beautiful space for a warm night for dinner out and great drink selection! read more

This is my second time here, but there won't be a third visit. Everyone loves this place, however, I am totally disappointed. The atmosphere is great, and I love their brussel sprout cesar salad. Both times I ordered the margarita pizza, and both times it was soggy and tasteless. I am not one to complain, especially when dining with others. Had a disappointing experience here tonight. We've been to Magic 5 a number of times, tonight was different. We'd made a reservation and requested a standard table instead, and were seated at a tall bar table. I, the writer of this review and maker of the reservation, am a person barely over 5 feet tall. Bar seats are pretty uncomfortable for me as my short stature leaves my legs dangling through a meal, or struggling to rest on whatever foot bar a bar chair may have. Upon my asking for a standard table I was told there were none. I asked for a booth which looked like it might work better for me, and was told they were for parties of 5 or more, which we were not. I asked if we might be permitted a booth, the man seating us asked his manger for permission to seat us at a booth, and we were denied. We sat at our bar table by the door, and ordered our meal. Throughout the meal the manager and other staff were doing something outside, they kept opening the door to go in and out, leaving it propped open a number of times. It's December in Connecticut, so having an open front door 8 feet away during a meal wasn't ideal. The food as always was great. About half way through our meal we were told a cancellation for a booth had just come in and that the manger had offered us a booth. As we were in the middle of our meal, we said thanks, but declined the offer. The in and out business continued, and there seemed to be some awkwardness, discomfort, maybe frustration between the staff and the manager. It was a strange and unpleasant vibe. I've not experienced this here before, the atmosphere is always friendly, positive, and inviting. I understand running a business, making something go, managing people, can be challenging, but I also think that discomfort should not bleed out, and be felt by the clientele which is what happen at Magic 5 for our table, tonight. read more

I know the chef personally Carlos Baez and he did an outstanding job with the menu. The Lil guy pepperoni pizza is one of the next pizzas I've had, it's spicy, salty, a little sweet, it's just an explosion of flavor. Magic 10/5 pizza... do refreshing do have a sono option that rivals pizza expectations around New Haven or NYC pies. They have a gluten friendly crust that is amazing and perfect if you have a gluten allergy or just want a perfectly executed thin crust option. Desserts are great, we got the cheesecake and the tiramisu and they are the best I have had (more importantly the best my wife has had) in a very long time. I don't give 5 star reviews very often, but this place deserves it! I came yesterday, tried 3 of their pizzas (the Salad pizza, the Margherita and the Pastor) and had to come back today (for another Pastor, and a Potato pizza). The crust is similar in texture to a good French baguette, perfectly charred, and the toppings are just right. One friend who came with me today said "this is quite possibly one of the best pizzas I've ever had".
