Can we talk about what a life changing experience going to Crust Issues has been? I mean, yes, y'all are right, your parking is utter shizz. But the food?! My God. We had the most amazing dishes. The garlic knots are somehow both crispy on the outside and soft and light on the inside with the most amazing garlic butter. The mozzarella sticks covered in the marinated peppers are amazing. I am going to dream about the salad INSIDE the pizza. The pastina was perfection. The wings were crispy and the sauce was heavenly. And the pizza was almost like a focaccia with all the flavor and creative toppings only evil geniuses can provide. The restaurant was clean and had great atmosphere; well decorated and cozy. The staff was friendly and fun. You are clearly an enclave of sarcastic wizards who use your powers for culinary evil of the best variety. We drove an hour to get there and I will be back. I just want to say I had been there once for supper club and it was very good. This time HORRIBLE. so I am gonna go one course to the next. 1. Their sausage, eggplant was almost in edible the salt content of this pizza was over the top. 2. The bao bun meatball was absolutely horrendous. The meatballs for one had absolutely no flavor to them. I'm Italian so when I eat a meatball, I wanna taste seasoning and flavor and there was nothing to it except just meat with a little seasoning not to mention completely overdone overcooked and very disappointing. 3. The Tempura chicken wings with Lime Crema and caviar were almost inedible as well. There was no rhyme or reason for any of it. The tempura batter was absolutely so thick. You had to pull it all away just to get to the actual chicken. The presentation was very strange lime Crema with a dollop of caviar made no sense and quite frankly it just didn't do anything. It would've been better as a side dipping sauce, but the tempura batter was over the top. Just awful. 4. The squash salad with grape quite frankly I don't know who tasted that dressing, but it was like muted and extremely unflavorful. There was no fresh ingredients in that dressing or any type of acidity. It was pretty much like just eating grass or sand. 5. The creamy Pastina was pretty lackluster as well. As someone who has grown up with Pastina, it needed a little bit more cheese because again the flavors were very muted and most of the dishes that came out were pretty cold. Nothing was hot. 6. The potato gnocchi with broccoli, broccoli broccoli was also just OK. It would've been better if it came out hot, but it came out pretty cold and there wasn't a real pop of pesto which was explained to us, but I'd have to say if I was to critique the one dish that we both enjoyed it was this one. 7. The last of the dinner courses was a roasted chicken, and it was explained that that there was a curry taste with Cauliflower, etc. That was not curry by any stretch of of the imagination. The flavors again were very muted very dull, and I could say it was nothing that I would ever order or expect from somebody who is a Michelin star chef as I believe they say their chef is. 8. The s'mores dessert was completely inedible. They toasted the marshmallow with a torch because I saw them doing it before the first course ever came out. When the dessert actually finally arrived, you couldn't even run a fork through it. It was that hard. The marshmallow was that hard. We left the entire dessert. Tip..torch it before you actually serve it. ‍ Our first experience was pretty OK some of the dishes were not great, but overall the experience made us wanna come back and try. But after this horrible meal that we had, we will never come back to this supper club. In addition beverages that were offered the first time we came to the supper club, which were some seltzers, were told oh no, that's not part of the supper club. And when I said well, they were part of the last supper club we came to and the girl just kind of dismissed what I had said and rude. I think that overall they should do a supper club every two weeks and carefully plan out their menu because what they put out this past week was actual garbage. And instead of rushing the dishes, every dish shall come out fresh and maybe taste things before you give them to the public. Burnt meatballs, salad dressing that just seems unfinished and a dessert that was hard as a rock not to mention cold meals. I just think this review needed to be done so people don't waste the $40. And do yourselves a favor don't believe the influencers who say this place is spectacular. It's not. They are getting paid to do that review. This place looked incredible online, and I was really looking forward to trying it. Unfortunately, it was one of the biggest disappointments we've had in a while. The meatballs were cold in the middle. The pastina was scorching hot, like it had been microwaved too long. The garlic knots had no garlic on them. The biggest letdown was the Italian sandwich pizza. It looked amazing in the photos, but it was awful. The crust was so hard it was difficult to cut, and everything inside was cold, like it had been sitting around instead of being made fresh. There is something wrong with this place. I actually have enjoyed their pizza in the past, and given them a great review, but the last two times I was there with my husband, one of the employees demanded my husband's phone number when he and I, and then he, walked in and ordered a take-out pizza. The first time my husband asked if it was so they would text us when the pizza was ready and the guy said give us the number or we will cancel the order." The first night, they did not cancel the order, and we asked other people in line if they were asked for their phone number, and they said, "no" and looked rather confused. Tonight, he went alone, and again, they demanded his phone number, and because he declined, they canceled his order. They also threatened to call the cops if he did not give them his phone number, even though his card went through. The thing is, my husband doesn't even HAVE a phone, and we use mine, but I was using it when he went to pick up the pizza. I called and asked and they asked me if I was calling about the "guy who was just here" and I said "not in particular" and was told "neither of you are welcome here anymore, do not come here anymore." (Though technically, they have our phone number since I called them... so that's an irony.) WHY do they need a phone number for a walk-in, take-out order that is paid for, when people are already tired of being added to text and auto-bot call lists as it is, and why would we be told we cannot go to said pizza place because we do not want to give them a phone number? I mean, it's only Connecticut, so good pizza is really incredibly difficultly hard to come by, right? We are so, so sad. (I lie) P.S. First, my daughter, (my foodie teammate), saw a viral IG post about Crust Issues. We drove up from Woodbridge, NJ & we were not disappointed. When you walk in the host is very inviting. You choose your own table, drinks are available right by the counter. They have a variety of drinks from bottled water to local brews to hard seltzers to wines to capris sun and sunny D. The trick to ordering is to follow them on their socials. There you'll see all the options that you can order. All look delicious and the dishes we ordered were very delicious. The dining area was very clean and inviting. On the walls they had all these cook books and pop art of food and sea themed icons. Way back in ye old 2015 I worked for the owner of this spot and it's great to see him still thriving and consistent on good things all around. I got the pastina, garlic knots, mozz sticks, and Italian combo pizza. The mozz sticks have THE perfect pull and make for great content! Normally I do not follow the hype because 8 times out of 10, the hype is a lie. But I can say that Crust Issues is completely worth the hype!! I would absolutely recommend. Was in CT visiting family and made it a point to stop by before going back to NY. Crust Issues is on a main Street and located in a small plaza. The inside is cute and gives a sports bar vibe. There are funny, creative photos all over the place to add to the charisma. The person taking our order was so friendly and happy to help us decide what to order. This review is my opinion only. I love NY and New Haven style pizza. I do not care for Bar Style/new England pizza. Not.enough sauce or cheese or give in the crust. The crust at the edges is hard enough to chip a tooth. No "real" crust as it kind of shatters. Very llittle sauce, parmean cheese dusted on top. I asked for more.sauce on the side and received a chilled container of sauce to use. Ot actually helped the flavor. We went after we saw an Instagram post of specials. The first thing you need to know, is that CT Food Bloggers are crazy for Crust Issues. I'm part of that community and I'm impressed with how many of them love Crust Issues. Some of that love seems to come from periodic creative multi-course prix fixe meals with wings, adult Spaghetti O's and other stuff. I haven't been so I'm not the best person to describe them. People are also nuts about Crust Issue's creative stuffed pizza sandwiches (chopped Italian, etc.), which look really good btw. I had a completely different type of experience, and maybe you should angle for the experience described above. I've wanted to try Crust Issues because of all the buzz, but I live about an hour away. I realized that I would be driving near Crust Issues on my way to calling hours in Stamford. So my son and I ordered two individual sized pizzas by phone and then we ate those pizzas quickly when we arrived. Service was very friendly. The small dining room was decked out for the holidays. Cool place and cool people for sure. We ordered one pepperoni pizza and one Loaded Potato Pizza. Crust Issues calls their pizza "New England Style". I've never had anything quite like it. I'd call it a Bar Pizza meets shallow pan Detroit Style. The pizza is cooked in a rectangular pan and gets crispy, but the pizza itself is very thin. The crust is a bit airy. This is a total style preference thing. You may love this style of pizza. It's not my favorite style. I prefer a chewier more traditional style of crust. I prefer more sauce and stuff on top than this style of crust can support. I prefer cheese that is more stretchy than well done. The pepperoni were cut into smaller pieces from the normal rounds. I respect that Crust Issues goes their own direction, but I didn't totally connect with their style of pizza. This a 4 Star review. We came for Supper Club (my first time, my friend's second time). We both loved the idea of it - basically an Italian-style omakase. We started off with a slice of pizza each, then received a couple wings each. After that we got "Italian miso soup", which was a garlicky soup with a piece of bread. We had a couple sharing dishes up next - first was creamy ranch pastina (complete with cool ranch Doritos crumbled on top). Next we shared Alfredo pasta with bacon. For the 'main entree', we each got a good-sized chicken cutlet and some fried pieces of potato to share and a side salad. Finally, we finished with tres leches panettone cake for dessert. Overall, the food was great and the service was impressively efficient - serving numerous plates with the perfect amount of time between each. The seating arrangement was a little quirky but they really do as much as the can in the space. We went in December and it was decorated exceptionally well for Christmas. Crust Issues has been on my bucket list and I finally made it. Crust Issues is a small establishment in a small plaza. They serve Pizza, pasta dishes, sandwiches, and they even have a prix fixe menu that you can order from. The establishment does have takeout and it's really a self-serve restaurant. You put your order in at the register and then you sit down. The food is brought up by the staff and you throw away your own items. My daughter and I ordered a pizza with Pepperoni and an order of Garlic Knots. The Garlic Knots were huge and they had a nice amount of garlic and butter coating the Garlic Knots. Honestly, you can eat the Garlic Knots and a Salad and you would be full. I would say in my opinion that the Garlic Knots are too thick for my liking but that just my take. Now, let's get to the Pizza. I did have an issue with my crush since it's not a traditional style pizza. It's more of a Detroit style pizza. I like pizza crust to be crispy all the way through but the Pizza was good. The sauce had a sweet flavor but very flavorful. I don't know what kind of cheese they use but it gave the pizza some zest. We saw an Instagram post and had to try it! The interior is really well done with dark and wood tones. We were immediately greeted and given a warm welcome and assistance with the menu and off menu items on Instagram. We saw the pepperoni topped Italian combo chopped sandwich on Instagram so we had to try that - it was really good, only thing I would say is the oregano and seasoning mix they sprinkle on top is a little too strong. It's been hours and I still can't get the taste out. The chopped Italian inside is so good though- I would eat it on a regular hero roll. The mozzarella sticks were huge - these were more like mozz hunks than sticks, and they were melty and crispy and delish. The sandwich was huge so we shared it and still couldn't finish it all. I really want to like this place because of the convenience to my apartment, but it's just not worth getting again. I placed a pickup order and they got the order wrong - instead of the mozzarella sticks, they gave me a house salad. I called and they made me bring back the salad before they would give me the correct item. I had to drive back to the store, deal with their horrible parking, and give back a food item that surely they cannot reuse just to get the right item I paid for? Bad customer service. We came here for the Saturday night supper club and wow what an amazing deal! It comes with unlimited soda/wine, and I enjoyed my rose. I am pescatarian, and the chefs/staff were very accommodating and gave extra servings, a special pasta, and the most delicious mozzarella sticks as replacement for the courses with meat. I was already stuffed before the meal was over! The pizza was excellent with a great crust. The pastas were yummy- the broccoli rabe Alfredo and the sesame lemon pici were flavorful but slightly overcooked, but the pomodoro I got was cooked perfectly. I found the spicy Brussels spouts a little too crispy, they kind of disintegrated in my mouth, but my bf liked them. He really enjoyed the chicken wings and the chicken cutlet with pastina. Our dessert was a key lime pie tres leche, which was a good idea but a tad dry. These were super minor tweaks, which id chalk up to the fact they're making so much food for so many people. Be warned that the courses come out one after another, and there's not a ton of time in between! The star of the show had to have been Avery, who was the single man delivering the food to every table while still being very generous and attentive. Four of us had reservations for the supper tasting menu. Restaurant is packed and super LOUD. The food server came over to tell us how to get our drinks, spoiler.. get up and get them yourselves. We could barely hear him. Next the food started arriving on thin paper plates, 4 rolls one plate, we looked around for utensils and plates and before we could ask the server was gone. We saw people getting up to get their own old school thin paper plates along with the worst plastic forks I've ever seen, one actually melted. No knives. Ate the rolls, they were ok. Then came two chicken wings in a paper cup, just ok, then came a slice of pizza for each with corn relish, none of us finished the pizza. He came back with something else and when I picked up my paper plate piled with food I hadn't eaten to hand to him, he said oh no, you keep your plates. I said oh no, I'm not keeping my plates, I want. New one. He was pissed but took the plate. Next couple of courses came, they were terrible. Favors didn't work and none of us liked them. Not to mention they give you a bowl for all 4 portions with no serving spoon. Odd.
