My husband and I took one bite and he looks at me and goes, "Is this better than Star?" And I go, "Yes. For you?" "I'm not sure yet, but the fact that one bite even raises the question is shocking." This is the best thing crust pizza I've ever had. I've had Star Tavern, I've had Calabria's, I've had Angeloni's -- this is the best. (My husband later agreed.) The problem I have with many thin crust pizza places is that their crust is crackery -- it's paper thin and has great integrity, but it's dusty, has no flavor, and breaks apart super easily -- like a cracker. Not so with Colony, my friends. I don't quite know how they do it, but the crust is paper thin, the integrity is incredible, the crust is actually flavorful, and best of all (in my opinion): the crust is CHEWY. My mind was blown. I didn't even mention the price yet: $11.95 for a pie. You can barely get a coffee for cheaper than that anymore, let alone a delicious meal. I'm a fan for life. read more

Come here for years finally came back here after not being back here for about 10 years had a dinner date with a very important woman in my life my 12-year-old daughter (daddy daughter date night). She chose to come to Colony Grill. It was packed Saturday night the downside that it took about 45 minutes for us to get our pizza but took us 15 to 20 minutes to eat. It was truly worth it. Colony Grill was definitely on my list for quite some time if I ever made my way to Connecticut. After seeing them on barstool sports, I just had to try it. The staff was very nice and welcoming and everything came out super fast but also super fresh. The pizza came out very quickly piping hot with a beautiful crust that perfect thin crust pizza you are looking for it's at colony Grill. Very light on the sauce and the perfect amount of cheese to crust ratio And the price is fantastic. Another aspect of colony Grill is the interior the vibe you get when you walk in the walls are filled pictures of soldiers and locals the walls at colony Grill. Take your pick of a cheese pizza, a breakfast pizza (Bacon or sausage, egg & cheese), or a salad pizza (hearty mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers & carrots; tossed with balsamic vinaigrette). I guess technically there are more than three choices because you can add Hot Oil, Pepperoni, Sausage, Meatball, Mushroom, Black Olive, Onion, Bacon, Cherry Peppers, Stinger Peppers, Sweet Peppers, and/or Anchovy to your pizza. But you get the picture -- not a platter of wings, basket of mozzarella sticks, double cheeseburger, or tin of baked ziti in sight here. Our lunch at Stamford's Colony Grill was terrific. We took a booth in the bar area and watched a non-stop parade of customers coming in to pick up their pizzas to go. Our server was cheerful and friendly, and fun to interact with. Pizzas come in one size - probably closest to what you would call a medium with six slices. My brother ordered a cheese pizza ($11.95) and I did the same but added on meatballs an onion ($1.95 each). Their pizza is advertised as "bar pizza" but it was unlike any bar pizza I ever had. The crust is microscopically thin, about the thickness of a piece of thin cardboard and halfway between soft and crunchy- really quite excellent with a nice balance between their sauce and cheese. My meatball and onion surcharges were fair for the servings and price. I took four of my six slices home, and we made two dinners out of them, so $16 for three servings of excellent pizza made for a very good value. Went on a Thursday night and it was packed. The parking lot is super tight when full so just have to be careful when parking Got seated right away and it took about 30 min for the pizza to come out (the waitress had given us a heads up that it would take 30-40 min since it was a busy night). We ordered the hot oil pizza and a pepper and onion pizza. Both were fantastic in flavor and crunch. I wouldn't call this ultra thin pizza by any means as I've had thinner - but this was great hew haven style pizza. Crispy but could fold, nice crunch with the bite...cheesy, flavorful with enough tartness to balance the cheese and the perfect char. Personally, I find it a bit tedious that bacon isn't automatically included on the Breakfast pie -- when things get busy, I forget to add it, and it's just not the same without! In pictures the pizza doesn't look like much but wow is that deceiving. The sausage pizza was fabulous. It is thin and crispy and pairs nicely with a side of hot oil. The hot oil isn't too hot either. I could eat the whole thing easily. Although it is thin, the pizza still holds its structural integrity well. I would come back whenever I am in the area. read more

My husband and I used to love Colony Grill. Now that we have a newborn, we've tried delivery since dining in is more challenging. 2 times in the past month we have received ice cold pizzas. Tonight, we received the wrong pizza - onion instead of sausage / stingers. My husband can't eat onions. When I called colony grill, they said not their problem. I was on a layover and while hanging at the hotel, I decided that I really wanted some pizza and Colony Grill kept popping up. I had seen a couple of other locations that stated that they did hot oil, but Colony was supposed to be the originator, so I decided to check it out . I ordered a large pepperoni pizza with hot oil, including the pepper. I took a bite of the pepper when I got the pizza and it was far too hot for me LOL, but the hot oil made the pepperonis taste really good! And even though it took about 45 minutes for the pizza to arrive, it came feeling fresh out of the oven, and it was super delicious. I ate half in the first hour, waited a couple hours and ate the rest by myself (so I didn't seem greedy lol) it was super good and I will return. read more

Colony Grill was my first stop on my "tour" of Connecticut pizza. I ordered the hot oil pie with pepperoni and onions. This pizza is delicious! It's thin and crisp and not loaded with cheese. If I ever went back I'd probably request the hot oil on the side. I thought it made the pizza way too oily but I enjoyed the subtle heat. Loved the very thinly sliced white onion. Having lived in Stamford since 2008 and shamefully never visiting this classic pizza place I finally did and the hype is completely true. Colony Grill has the best pizza in Stamford. On the east side, it's not in the sexiest side of town like downtown or harbor point but that's part of its charm and probably why the prices are reasonable. We split a pie with black olives and pepperoni and it was just enough for two. We also paired it with wine. It's a no frills establishment but a friendly vibe, low prices, good juke box type rock n roll. One can easily dine at the bar or adjacent table tops. There's also a dining room which I didn't see. Got to say I wasn't the biggest fan of the hot oil pizza. Waiter recommended that we order this with pepperoni and bacon. I guess the toppings influenced this, because there was way too much pork which kind of masked the hot oil. But even then didn't seem as tasty as the other pizzas. And not surprisingly, the pizza was dripping with oil. I think the simpler toppings suited this style of crust more. I preferred the simple cheese, as well as cheese and sausage. Personal preference, but I don't love this style of ultra crispy crust. On the plus side, the service is very friendly and they do have parking. This style of pizza seems to be a local favorite. If you enjoy greasy, processed?! cheese, and paper thin crust...this is your destination. Frankly confusing for me. The attraction seems to be the hot oil and stingers (long hots) pie which will satisfy the heat seekers. The bar area has quite a history with portraits of "honored" locals. This place seems more nostalgia for locals and seen better days. The limited menu (if one is available) is thin crust pizza and choice of toppings. You're not at a resort so service depends on how the individuals feel that particular day. A place to check off for visitors but reluctant to experience again. Service is poor. They only serve pizza so make sure you really really want pizza or don't come here. They don't have Caesar salad and they only serve the salad on pizza dough. Colony Grill has been around for a long time and I have had the pleasure of coming here to have their signature Hot Oil Pizza. Open since the 1930s, this establishment created their signature thin crust bar pie that does not go crazy with a lot of cheese or sauce on it. It allows the pizza to stay crisp for a while when it is on your table without a flop! Their signature topping is hot oil, which is spicy through how the infuse peppers in the oil. I have always end up getting a Hot Oil Pie and it never disappoints me! I have had pies without the hot oil before and they tasted good as well, though I will say that for my taste buds, they all taste better with the hot oil!
