If you've read any of my reviews you already know that one of the greatest sleeper food battles in the country is Grigg Street vs Luca's in Greenwich. The most underrated Cheeseteak battle in the world, right here under your nostrils. And you don't even know about it. Do yourself a favor, and educate yourself. I've gone back and forth. Most the time I have Grigg Street a .1 grade higher GASP. But other times I think they are even. I think I need more trials. Oh No! I must go again! - This is me being playful. Imagine the cruelty that the love(s) of my life most go through. Duller than a dump truck that's not street safe. - Anyways. Let me orchestrate a symphony for ya. Beautiful day. Little chilly actually if you ask me. Throw on a way too deeply opened quarter zip - no Nike tech - so that you can get a glimpse of a chain grazing the corner of my pectoral "muscle". I drive my motor vehicle across state lines to end up in the highfalutin Greenwich. Gorgeousness all over the place, my eyes hurt from gazing through exteriors and into souls. Out of place? No. I looked rather handsome this day, or said the chimpanzee that's befriended my pet mule Paco. But was I a foreigner? At the moment, yes. Yet not for long. So all delulu, I stumbled into a side block down a flight of stairs and into a straight up dungeon with a dragon spitting absolute fire in many forms at the open-faced visible ovens. I walked up to the counter and attempted to rizz up the cashier. She did a good job at resisting my aura. Marginally completely ignored me but that negative energy has no impact on a Sigma such as myself. Couldn't even tell if she had the gyatt or if she were mid, but it doesn't matter. Whatever. I'm not mad. That's not even what I was here for. I was here for a slice and a Cheeseteak. Whatever. I ghosted her first. Just PUT THE FRIES IN THE BAG! Anyways. Behind the counter the chef runs a tight ship. Would call him a pirate, first word that came to mind. He crashed out about five times and mogged roughly five unassuming customers and I absolutely loved it. That's how cocky pizza makers should be. No skibidi. No 6-7. All action, no BS. LET HIM COOK. You can only order in 15 min increments on the website. This, again, is a tight ship. So I ordered the cheesesteak and then added a slice to my purchase when I got there. Genius, I know. Why don't you tell huzz behind the counter who thinks that because she ate that she don't have to lock into to the gracefully aging unc who graced her presence. No glaze ofc. ANYWAYS. The cheesesteak is simply one of the best in the world. Straight chungus... this thing is structurally sound at an absurd diameter and circumference. Theres really not an argument to its greatness. The bread is filthy good. The cheese/sauce has some type of extra tang/spice that raises it another level. The meat is just wonderful. I mean this thing is so delicious that it's 9:30AM and I'm contemplating ordering one right now. JUST LOOK AT IT. And the pizza? Mid 8s. That's a nice score. Sourdough crust that dominates a bit because of its charred taste and texture. A good sauce almost wish there were more. Really aromatic, really fresh cheese. Super super deceptively light I could've polished a pie and I probably will at some point. Really liked it, need to try more slices. This place, across all metrics, passed the vibe check. Hits all the KPIs. Love the downstairs dark vibe. And call me Frankenstein but they hit the nail on the head with their two specialties: Pizza and Cheesesteak. Who doesn't love that combo? The pizza was solid. I don't think it lived up to what I expected but it was still a really really good pizza. The crust was good but maybe I don't love sourdough pizza doughs. The cheesesteak was a bit of a let down. I really didn't love the bread and it needed more cheese. Compared to your average cheesesteak this was great but I am comparing this to Angelo's in Philly and it's just not in that league. We pre ordered our pizza and cheesesteak. When we walked in there was no sign as to where to wait if you had ordered ahead of time. We stood to the side for a few minutes until we were yelled at by the cashier for taking up space. Luckily the owner saw this and quickly interjected. After that poor start everything else went well. The owner let us change our order to sit down and they made space at a table for us. This is my brother's favorite spot which he suggested. The pizza place is on a side street off Greenwich Avenue. Small pizza shop that sell slices and pies. Very good pizza, Taste a lot better than Planet Pizza. Dough was good low yeast taste and delicious sauce. Cheese got hard quick though. Finally got a chance to try Grigg Street Pizza in Greenwich. The pizza was really good, crispy and chewy crust. My favorite was the pepperoncini and onion slice. They had free beer when I went too! So awesome. I'd say it's as good or even better than some NYC pizza places! read more

Heard lots about Grigg street pizza and was really happy we got to try it! We got the Philly cheesesteak on sourdough and a slice of pepperoni. Both were great, I loved how crispy the thin pizza was and the cheese they grate on top of it before serving it that melts was delicious. Slightly oily but overall really delicious. The Philly cheese steak was good and a large portion, though slightly on the pricier side $20 for the baguette. Will definitely be back and likely to get the whole pie next time! Really friendly service too for a small place, but keep in mind there isn't much seating so it's good for a casual bite but not a sit down meal. read more

This is a place. Real deal slices and not afraid to take risks. PS those risks pay off. I've never experienced a Godfather pizza let alone one like this. And the Philly cheesesteak was so unique and delish. We all know the bread is the secret to cheesesteak glory and to use the same pizza sour dough is just plain sumptuous. Absolutely blown away with this pizza! Definitely in my top 5 pizza spots now. If you don't want a pie, you can get a slice which I love. My husband got their Philly Cheese Steak, which they are famous for and we can see why. It was absolutely delicious and just thinking back on it now is making my mouth water. We went on a Saturday and they were giving out free beer which was also a fun bonus. On Fridays and Saturday, when you eat there you can get free beer. Where to start. I'm always been a huge fan of the place! The location, the help, the ingredients, all top notch. You guys use to put out a monster pizza! I'm trying to figure out what has happened the last two times I had your pizza. Two times ago I ordered slices. They were burnt on the bottom and hard as a rock. I spoke with one of the gentleman behind the counter to complain. He had a good response. He said to just tell them you want it lightly heated. Still no excuse for burn't pizza. Today I decided the best way to handle the situation was to order a fresh pie and wait for it and eat it there. I'm fine waiting for it, I just want a fresh pie! It took a while so I assumed it was a fresh pie and not reheated. I've been preaching to my girl friend that your pizza is as good as it gets. Sadly the pizza was burn't on the bottom and hard as a rock. I totally understand the extremely hot pizza ovens and the little patchs of black on the top. I get that, burn't on the bottom, no! My girl friend was amazed, she said we drove all this way for this. So later I thought I would try the rest of the pie I brought home. She couldn't imagine why I would want to bring it home. This entire town loves them because everyone is talking about their pizza. I had someone's mom from Pennsylvania tell me she had Grigg Street Pizza and it was the best she ever had. Inside it looks like a traditional pizza joint with guys working the oven, couple of tables in the dining area and counter seating on the side. The pizza besides being so delicious, they have the perfect crust, good sauce (not gravy), and a sprinkle of oregano. When the pie comes out the oven it goes to one of the guys for inspection. Before they close the lid on each pie, it is checked for perfection and it receives a sprinkle of dust thats is just pure love! (Parmesan) My son won't eat pizza anywhere else. For his B'day and special occasions he gets Grigg Street gift cards. I'm not sure if he's collecting them because I've been paying for pizzas and sandwiches. LOL All the sandwiches are fabulous and full of flavor, I tried each one and can't say which is my favorite and well filled with quality ingredients. Mozzarella and bread are made in house. The bread is made from the pizza dough, it is simply perfection. The salads are probably just as good but I never order a salad, I'm not a rabbit. Worth the wait, worth the drive, worth the price. We got the cheesesteak it was SO GOOD and enough to share. It had great flavor. We also got a pizza with house made sausage and that was really good too but next time I'll buy a variety of slices so I'm able to try more because there were so many slices options, which is rare! I think slices are only til 5:00. Free canned beer with your food on the weekend which my husband enjoyed. We waited a short time for our table and our food and they were both ready at the same time!! Staff tried to help make sure you got a table so your food had a place to go. I'd say there is about 6 tables and some side standing room to eat slices. Staff really friendly and want to make sure you enjoy your food and experience, which we did! Thank you!! Just came back from Grigg Street and felt compelled to immediately write about my treat/trip here. Parking downtown Greenwich is a pain, but worth it for this food. Free beer in a cooler when you walk in on Fri/Sat, pretty awesome. Went to the counter and ordered a large sausage pie and of course a cheesesteak for my wife and I to split. Place does not have a lot of tables so you may have to eat on the go which most do or patiently wait. They have a ton of slices in the glass case they will warm up for you. Pizza was very good, sausage was tasty and had a good crisp to it. The cheesesteak for me though was the standout. I believe it was sourdough bread for the grinder and the meat came with cheese and onions, absolutely perfect blend, easily one of the best cheesesteaks I've ever had. Dare I say this is better pizza than anything in NYC. And I'm comparing this to Juliana's, Bleecker, Joe's, Village Square and more. It's decadently, devastatingly delicious, with flecks of fresh Parmesan and basil leaves and crispy pepperoni and crunchy, doughy crust. Add hot honey to their pepperoni pizza and it's this outrageous combo of salty and sweet and cheesy. One of the best slices I've ever had. The Margherita with mushrooms is also delicious. Dave Portnoy was right. Being a New Yorker I have been searching for great pizza. FOUND IT.

Grigg Street Pizza has been on my radar for a while now since I've seen it in Connecticut's Magazine as one of the top pizza places in the state, Dave Portnoy gave the pizza a 8.6 and the Cheesesteak Sandwich a 9.6, and it was on the Triple D show on the Food Network. Additionally, I've seen that many Yelpers were giving this a place a five star rating so I definitely had to check it out. Grigg Street Pizza is located on a one way street across from a bookstore and coffee shop. Grigg Street Pizza is located in a subterranean basement space and serves Sourdough Pizza and freshly homemade Sourdough sandwiches. Upon arrival my daughter and I were greeted by the staff and felt very welcomed. I came here with a mission and I already knew what I wanted to order. You first put your order in, pay, and take a seat. I ordered a pizza with half Pepperoni and there is only a one size pizza which is a sixteen inch starting at 22.00. I also ordered the Cheesesteak because I had to know what this Cheesesteak was about since it was getting high ratings which cost 22.00. The whole order came up to almost fifty dollars. They also give away free beer on Friday's and Saturday's. You can help yourself as there is a cooler right next to the door you enter into the establishment. We took are seats and the Cheesesteak came out in about five minutes. As I looked at the Cheesesteak, it didn't give that best Cheesesteak vibe. My daughter and I took a bite and we both definitely agreed it was lacking flavor and substance. The Sourdough bread was delicious, soft, and you could tell it was homemade but the cheesesteak missed the mark for me. The Cheesesteak wasn't dry but just lacking flavor. The pizza came out in about twenty minutes and it had a nice undercarriage and crispy. The Pepperoni was not layered evenly as there were stacks of Pepperoni layered on top of each other but, the Pepperoni that was layered evenly curled up. That's a great sign to me as the Pepperoni is crispy has a bacon taste, texture, and consistency. The pizza was okay. The sauce was lacking flavor and the Pepperoni gave me the taste of Elliot's Pizza Pepperoni. The crust was crispy but had no wow factor about it. All in all, although the food wasn't a wow factor to me, the staff were very pleasant and even met the customers at the door. They definitely get a four star for customer service and satisfaction. read more

Dave Portnoy had it right. This is a fantastic slice right off the Main Street in Greenwich, a perfect start to any day that may include shopping and/or bar hopping, and probably some more food. Crunchy, not too thick, great sauce, right amount of cheese. It's small, and there's a few tables, but I prefer to grab my slide and eat it on one of the sidewalk tables. The slice will be ready in a few minutes, anything else a bit longer. I see them making sandwiches all the time and I've heard that their Philly cheesesteak can't be beat...but I've yet to have it. I've SEEN it, and it looks fantastic. Oh, and they have a cooler of free beer by the door so you can crack one while you wait. Clearly they've thought of everything. read more

Classic pizzeria on the side street. Pizza is fantastic and we have gone back several times when visiting the Greenwich area. Ambience is little loud depending on your taste of music. Service is good and the staff can be a bit colorful, so prepare yourself! Back to the pizza. Thin, crispy, chewy, with high-quality ingredients. This time we tried the salads and they were also excellent. Please note that they often run out of dough and then you are left eating whatever they can reheat from the case. That's not a bad option, but don't be disappointed if you get there late and you cannot order a pie. read more

Came here a couple different times and this place is a staple when I visit Greenwich. Their pizzas are consistently delicious and leaves me craving from 2800 miles away. I would have my Uber stop here on my way to the airport just to order slices to bring back to California. This spot is tucked away on a side street, away from the "busy" Main Street. The service counter is designed for a quick bite (order at counter, then sit and eat). Not a huge space, but they have a couple of tables inside and along the wall outside. The service and attitude here is direct, and there are lots of regulars. The slices are fantastic, crispy & chewy crust with quality sauce. I love their sausage, it's actually meat and full of fennel and spices. The pepperoni and hot honey is another great option. Their sandwiches and salads are good, but the pizza is what keeps me coming back. Looking forward to my next visit already! read more

I've only had the cheesesteak here and it's amazing. I usually call in and pick up so I'm in and out since the parking situation is non-existent. The meat is tender, the bread is soft but does not get soggy, and the cheese and onions bring it all together. I haven't asked but I wonder if they can add a spicy element. If it wasn't $20, I'd be getting this sandwich at least once a week. Service is fast. They sort of rush you, but it's a small place so I guess they're trying to get people in and out.
