I've been here for HOURS for their huge sale and just had to do a shout out to Deborah. This beautiful woman was working so hard, the way she moved around the store, her energy and smile - just outstanding. Macy's is closing, but you'd never know it with how dedicated she's and hard she's working. The dressing room is packed and people just leaving piles of clothes everywhere. She's running everything here. I thought she was a manger because of how on top of everything she is and how everyone else that is working was checking in with her for direction. To my surprise she's not a manager, SHE SHOULD BE. What a gem, seriously. She'd be a huge asset to ANY place she goes to after this. The sale is killer, I got a designer dress for $15! It's been such a great shopping experience and then to meet Deborah afterwards it just icing on the cake. read more

Stopped by the store during the very popular one-day sale over the weekend, and while the entire staff was extremely busy, I encountered store Associate Marco about a holiday tree price. He dropped everything, contacted his manager and reconfirmed the "sales" price for me. He truly went above and beyond when he had more than enough stock to put away during the busy holiday season, but still insisted on engaging his manager, Chad to help me out. They both helped me get the tree that I wanted and made the process so seamless, including letting me know about the added promotions for the weekend sale. In addition, I went back the next day for more ornament and saw Chad working diligently as the day before, so kudos to these employees for making this store stand out with all the other nearby Macy's stores. read more

Crappy store. The jewelry department is horrible. They are not knowledgeable and make up lies and try their best to rip you off. Staff members at the Grossmont store have consistently provided me with a friendly welcome and exceptional customer service. The store is well-maintained and typically well-stocked with a range of brands and sizes that work for me at a reasonable price. Quite frankly, it offers a keenly different shopping experience from the chain's overwhelmed Fashion Valley store. Truly, the Grossmont store is a jewel for East County shoppers that will be missed with its closing. read more

I called ahead to check if this location had my specific shade of Lancôme foundation. The woman I spoke to on the phone was really friendly and even put it on hold for me, which I appreciated! I arrived at the store feeling great, but unfortunately, my experience took a turn at the Lancôme counter. When I got there, I waited patiently for a staff member with short black hair to finish helping another customer. When I finally asked her about my foundation, she was shockingly dismissive--she didn't even make eye contact. Instead, she pointed vaguely in another direction, told me to find someone else, and seemed irritated by my question. I left feeling really disappointed and confused by the rudeness. It's unfortunate that such a small interaction soured what should have been a quick and positive visit. read more

The very tall blonde girl with the curly and long nails was very rude and arrogant. Not willing to help you and giving you a dirty look I felt humiliated and insulted. Had a lovely visit to the cosmetic section tonight. Went to get color matched for a Lancôme foundation and Kirk, who is usually at the MAC counter, came over quickly to help. They were so sweet and helpful, gave us a great color match and additional recommendations, and made our visit very pleasant. Closing your main entrance 20 mins before closing is absurd! I dont know who the manager of this store js but this is insane. Making your customers walk entirely around the building is probably why this is business is going bankrupt. Apparently, their manager Leif announced that they will lock the main entrance 30 minutes before closing and that makes this okay. read more

this is probably the worst Macy's I have been to. I have bought a set and it was around 50$ for each. and the seal tag was on them. I came back 6 days later to get them removed. The guy told me we didn't pay for the jacket and it wasn't on the receipt either, I don't know why that was our problem when they don't have any door that beeps for the seal tags. We got charged for an item that we already took home and would've been charged as a stolen item. That's a big issue because when we buy things in a store we don't expect to always check the receipt, and we don't wanna come back over a seal tag either. We buy things and go. But Macy's is a big store and mostly luxury things are in there. People could steal easily, they don't have any doors that ring nor security which is a big problem for a big store with mostly luxury things. I just don't recommend this Macy's at all. read more

Wow what great customer service I got from Lisa in the perfume section in Macy's. I came to her with what I was looking for exactly and she went above and beyond to find out where I could go to get this certain fragrance gift set for myself. And then she told me there was a gift set that wasn't exactly what I wanted but was of the same fragrance for a great value. I'm definitely going to come back for that gift set. And she was able to label a fragrance card for the different scents I wanted to buy my daughters for Christmas. The world needs more Lisa's on this world. Thank you so much for all your help. $108 plus tax seems reasonable for that expensive fragrance I wanted to get. Acqua di Gioia Giorgio Armani is the scent I love for me! Happy holidays read more

What can I say I love shopping at Macy's especially when they have a sale.!!!!! You can't go wrong with 15% off of their beauty items including cologne and CHANEL. CHANEL never has a sale at other locations but here 15% off. This Grossmont location doesn't have a huge CHANEL counter with make up and other things but they can buy it online and ship it to your home for free or ship it to the store. And you still get the 15% off when they have the beauty sale. CHANEL has the best eye make up remover... kind of expensive but when you get the 15% off and you see how well it works it takes off everything. It's a great CHANEL fragrance and not harsh on your face. Mine is being shipped I post this. Otherwise I go to fashion valley to pick it up in person but I don't mind waiting a few days. Most of the staff in here are friendly. In the cosmetic section I tend to be more fond of Ana but I have bought fragrances and cosmetics from others. Ana has always been super nice, friendly, professional and accommodating. At times some cosmetics staff in the past used to be very snotty but this crew of ladies working in cosmetics are extremely nice. I don't know all of their names but when I do I will definitely make a post of whatever I bought from them and give them a shout out as well. Returns to the store whether you bought them in person or had them shipped to your home are super easy. Don't waste your time taking jewelry or cosmetic jewelry to their main return area. It can only be done in the jewelry section. Macy's always has some kind of sale. What's always not on sale is there cosmetics, beauty and colognes. That happens about 3 to 4 times a year even though they try to make it seem like it doesn't. We're in May 2019 and this is the second 15% off of cosmetics that they've had so far. They'll be more if you miss it. Father's Day is coming around so I'm pretty sure they're going to have something for the Dad's. Then around Christmas 2019. For whatever reason at this location there is always the escalator from the second floor to the first floor that is usually not working. The elevator works fine. The store is typically pretty clean and even though they do not have as many items as they have in fashion valley if it's online and in stock they will order it and ship it. Shipping to the store is always free and when in store having it shipped to your home is free. When at home and having something shipped you might need to have a total of $75-$100 in order to get the free shipping or if you're a platinum member everything is free shipping. read more

I visited Macy's department store in La Mesa today. My boyfriend and I had purchased a white dinner jacket and several other garments from the Macy's in Parkway Plaza that was going out of business years ago. My boyfriend never had an opportunity to wear the jacket until now. We are going on a cruise and the white dinner jacket would have been perfect. Unfortunately, when he took the jacket out of the Macy's garment bag, he realized that the salesperson, who sold us the jacket, had left the ink tag on the garment. The Macy's in Grossmont Center is the nearest Macy's to me, now that the Macy's in Parkway Plaza is no longer there. The salesperson who attempted to help us called her manager, Anthony, who told her, she was not allowed to remove the ink tag without a sales slip. We no longer had the sales slip, since we purchased it years ago. I asked for Anthony to come help us with our predicament. When he arrived he was unhelpful, unfriendly, rude, and did not attempt to help us in any way. Very poor customer service. I would expect better from Macy's. I have had a Macy's card for over 40 years. I will not shop at Macy's again. Often, ink tags are left on garments and it seems that a reputable department store would attempt some resolution to a problem that was caused by an employee. I am disappointed that Macy's would not train their managers to be more customer friendly, and hopefully, should help to retain customer satisfaction. read more

I wanted some new clothes to spiff up my look for a construction worker interview. Needed some business casual clothes. There were some alright options in the Bar section with lots of dress pants and cool blouses. The escalators have been broken for as long as I can remember, it's practically a running joke between my family members now. They remodeled the front desk with some clean-looking floors and a giant screen. Workers are very attentive and friendly. Prices are okay, you can catch a really good sale once in a while. Overall, your standard Macy's with some hit or miss options. read more

This review is for Kayla in the beauty department, she is amazing! I made an appointment with another specific counter and upon arrival, no makeup artist. I was so bummed because I wanted to look great for my family photos that afternoon, and I almost left, when someone found Kayla for me. I am forever grateful they did before I left disappointed, because my photos turned out so gorgeous and I owe it all to her. Macys, give this woman a raise and a bonus and a promotion! Bonus... she is adorable and super friendly and a great conversationalist, which made the appointment fun. If you need a gorgeous face for photos or a special event, call ahead and ask for an appointment with Kayla in Impulse Beauty, and request she do your makeup near the front window. If you haven't heard the word around town yet, Macy's has opened a little discount store on the top floor called Backstage here! I heard about this from my aunt and after hearing the great deals she got, I had to come see it myself. Backstage is on the very top level inside this Macy's location and it is filled with discounts on Macy's items! Not only clothing, but perfume, makeup, handbags, sleepwear and SHOES! Lots and lots of shoes! I came here ready to put my credit card to use. I started by the shoe section and went to work. I found 3 pairs of heels all at a very very reasonable price. They had some super cute booties for fall as well! By the clothing section, I got a couple dresses and a jumpsuit, again, all at super affordable pricing. The perfume selection was great, I got one of my favorite Vince Camuto fragrances. On top of the already priced down items, they have a huge separate clearance section. The only thing I didn't like about the clearance section is that there is no organization with the sizes whatsoever. If you see something cute, just pray it's your size. I think this was a great idea and I'm a fan of it. It's like an upscale version of Ross. Lots of great brand names that won't break the bank. Make sure to come check out backstage. read more

We left very disappointed with the selection. My mom did find a couple of pieces, and I'm only giving two stars because the person who checked us out was so helpful and kind. It's Saturday at 11am and I am sitting in line (I'm the only one in line so they were not busy at all) and both of them look at me and continue to gossip about previous customers and talk crap about them. Why do I know that there was a customer having trouble with her return yesterday? Because they talk crap about customers for everyone to hear. Took 10 minutes for them to acknowledge me and ring up my two items. As Filipi is checking me out she says hi but continues to talk about other previous customers with Natalia. I love finding deals at Macy's. They had a final clearance in the back on the second floor. Name brands for affordable prices. I found lots of cute stuff but only found Calvin Klein jeans that were already yellow tag which is the cheapest you can get. They are trying to clear out a lot of clothing. I definitely like that. I don't shop at Macy's often but when I do, I find deals. I'm glad they had a Macy's here because they don't have one at Mission Valley mall anymore. I like how many levels this store has. Selection and service (or lack thereof) this store is a mess. Merchandise is strewn all over the place and in total disarray. I was looking for a small crossbody bag and as per usual there was no one attending that section, it was a ghost town. The overflow purse section is always a disaster and disorganized. Once I settled, and I do mean settled because I couldn't get to the locked michael kors merch (really? Locked For clearance MK?) I went upstairs to find stockings or footless leggings. Again I was met with a level of merchandise in total disarray. I was on a tight schedule so I asked the very first employee I saw where I could find them and she literally pointed to the other side of the store and said, "over there". Well I didn't have my glasses on to see that far so I asked her for more info and she pointed again and said on that far wall over there. I figured that was as much help I would be getting from her (as she walked towards the back employee door, cause she's busy, right?) so I make it to the other side of the store, and I can't even tell where leggings or footless stockings or pantyhose are, I found a couple of packages strewn about, and decided that's it. I'm done. I walk over to a cashier who is helping another customer to get in line to pay. More confusion ensues as the cashier appears to be looking right at me while saying, I can take your merchandise. I'm looking at her with confusion, as she says again, I can take your merchandise. No kidding, she's talking to the lady standing directly in front of her inches away asking her to hand her purchase items over to her (that are also inches away) to ring them up. The customer had an equally confused look on her face like, they're right in front of you...Never have I experienced such a level of laziness in terms of customer service as I did at Macy's. I literally mumbled out loud, I've got to get out of here. So I went all the way back downstairs and asked the merchandise drop off/order pick up employee where I can check out with my purse. He tells me I can check out in the purse section. I tell him there's no one in the purse section. He says to me, oh, there's another cashier over there. He points across the store. So I wander over to that part of the store and walk up to the cashier and started to get in line to wait to check out. I am not kidding, you could see the look on the other peoples faces the frustration and anger which I can only imagine was because of how long they had been standing in line. I literally walked back over to the purse section, dropped that bag off and got the hell out of there. I will never, ever, shop at that Macy's again. And quite frankly, I'm surprised it's even open. Grossmont mall has a lot of empty store fronts and Macy's is struggling as it is. I'm not sure how they are surviving, especially with a messy disorganized store and lazy employees. I recommend no one shop there. Grossmont center needs to shut that Macy's down. read more

So this Macy's is not brand new, doesn't have a restaurant but it's still Macy's. I love Macy's and have never had a problem here with the employees or anything else. The employees I have had contact with are very friendly, helpful and some are even caring. One time I found an iphone at the perfume counter and gave it to one of the employees who held it. But sure enough when the owner who was a young girl came looking for it they gave it back which is the right thing to do. One of the other employees told me that basically karma will come back to me, which was a nice thing to say. Macy's are forever having some type of sale and is one of the reasons why I shop here so much. The mens department is upstairs and is a little small compared to some other Macy's but that's okay. I can't believe that you can get some great brands for not a lot of money. So overall this Macy's is alright with me and I will be back. read more

For a department store that claims to be higher-end you would expect exceptional customer service and an outstanding store experience. Instead, everything seems mediocre. The sales associates don't look welcoming and almost begrudgingly give assistance when you request their help. On only a few occasions has an employee taken the time to explain the absurd coupons and specials they offer in the mail and newspaper. Damaged merchandise (i.e. stained and obviously worn then returned) should definitely NOT be on the selling floor. And perhaps what I find most intolerable: messy displays and disorganized sale racks. I do like the new location for the Sunglass Hut they installed where men's cologne used to be and the handbags department seems decently stocked. I just think the store desperately needs a remodel. Still, this Macy's trumps Parkway Plaza by a landslide for selection. read more

This is the WORST Macys location I've been to. I usually go to the one in Escondido, Carlsbad, or La Jolla. The store is so backdated. As soon as you walk in, it's like time stopped. Terrible lighting, bad customer service, and lack of staffing. I was in the area recently with my auntie and she wanted to do an exchange on a ring she just got as a gift, they refused to allow her to do an exchange when she has the receipt and tags. An older blond lady with lots of wrinkles on her face( literally want to buy her a bottle of wrinkle cream!! Or a dermatology consult) who works in fine jewelry refused to do an exchange. And she was super rude. She's not even a manager, just a sales associate. She's one of those rude, loud ppl who likes to hear themselves talk. I'm not sure who the store manager is for this location, but the store sort of just runs on its own with a skeleton crew AND LACKED CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS. This store needs alot of work....the restrooms seem to be not on the correct floor...the men's restroom is DOWNSTAIRS hidden in a corner in the women's clothes section....the men's clothing is upstairs so doesn't make sense that the men's room is not on the same floor and hidden in the middle of the women's clothing section. The staff seemed pretty friendly and helpful if asked a question and such....but seriously some things should change with in the layout for customer convenience....especially since alot more people at turning to online shopping....they need to start competing and offer more customer convenience. read more

My husband had given me for my birthday, she was so patient and kind when helping me through the process. Great customer service. VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND MANAGEMENT. I went there for an exchange, and here is DEBRRA with her nasty attitude, no greeting or smile from her. Which is fine, then she told me I have to get the same amount or higher of the what the shoes worth. I told her, ok im gonna get two pairs of shoes if I cant find the one at the same price or higher. Then every time I ask her for a pair shoes, she didn't have the size im looking for. And kept repeating " you have to get the same price or higher " and I kept saying im getting two pairs. Until after 5 times. I had raise my voice, and told her to stop telling me that and fix your attitude. She then refuses to do the exchange. So I had to call the manager. And the manager made her do the exchange, but still had a nasty attitude. I just kept my mouth shut. Bc I just wanted to get out of there. I think the manager should had took over and checked me out, to avoid any more problems. That's the right way to do business. This was my 2nd and last time there. And I just saw there's about 20 reviews about how bad the customer service, and the attitude of the employees there. I hope no one gets fired, but they need a good meeting about customer service.
