Yelp 365 Challenge - Review 015/365 (8/15/2011).
YELP TIME IS INCORRECT ... I POSTED THIS AT 11:55 P.M.!!!!
Considering how often I flock to this store, it's kind of strange that I've yet to write a review of it. I suppose it's because I take it for granted, considering it became Macy's almost overnight. Liberty House - sold in 2001 after almost 152 years in Hawaii and 35 years at its flagship Ala Moana branch - was pretty much left as is, from a customer's POV. In fact, I don't even recall the store closing down at all when the acquisition occurred.
Growing up, my family and I would shop at the various LH locations on Oahu, as well as other clothing stores like Sears and JcPenney's. I always liked LH the most because they, as a whole, were IMO the most classy, modern, cleanest and organized of the bunch. This impression during my childhood carried over into my teens and later into my early 20s, when LH joined the Macy's West division of Federated Department Stores, Inc. Today, even with the presence of higher or comparable class stores such as Nordstrom's and Neiman Marcus, I still think Macy's holds its own pretty darn well. It may not be the most stylish anymore, but it certainly gets the most money from me compared to their competitors.
Out of all the former LH branches, I mostly frequent the Ala Moana store. This is primarily because of proximity to my neighborhood but also due to merchandise availability. Although I worked in downtown right next to the Fort Street Mall branch (for over six years), I didn't shop there as much with its lack of variety. What I've usually discovered is that if something's not available at Ala Moana, it's also unavailable at any of the other town / near to town locations.
Over the years I've purchased various items from various departments. These purchases include: apparel / undergarments (pretty much every category for various people), footwear (sneakers, slippers, heels), cosmetics (Shiseido, Lancome, Dior, Chanel), houseware / electronics (gifts for weddings, birthdays, maternity, holidays) and miscellaneous accessories (fine jewelry, costume jewelry, hats, sunglasses, purses, socks, hosiery). I've also been a patron of The Pineapple Room for lunch, and liked the food.
I never worry about the quality or durability of anything I buy here, since Macy's has a very good return policy (as long as the return label is still attached). My biggest buys here were my Movado and Burberry watches, both of which I still wear (sidenote: Macy's offers an extended warranty protection plan for a one-time payment of 10% of your purchase price of fine jewelry. This came in handy when my battery stopped working, as they shipped my watch to the Movado factory and I received a free repair).
All in all, I think I enjoy shopping at Macy's Ala Moana above all other stores. They have prety good sales year-round, with extra discounts available to all customers (not just store credit card holders). Everything is easy to find and customer service is usually above-average. I like the consistency and familiarity, so I definitely wouldn't change a thing here =) Five stars. read more
