My mom and I stopped in because she was looking for earrings. She had mentioned before that Pink Box has cute selections at reasonable prices, so we decided to browse. While she was looking at earrings and pointing out styles she liked, I was helping her look through them. For context, I don't even wear earrings since I have large gauges, so I wasn't shopping for myself in that section. Afterward, I moved over to the claw clips and was looking through some butterfly clips to see if they came in matching colors. A sales associate approached us and asked if we needed help. We politely said no thank you and continued browsing. What made us uncomfortable was that after that interaction, the employee remained very close to us and appeared to be watching us the entire time. When we moved to a different area, she followed. Whether intentional or not, it felt as though we were being monitored because she suspected we might steal something. My mom and I both noticed it, and it made the shopping experience uncomfortable. We are paying customers who have visited this store before and have never given anyone a reason to be suspicious of us. I understand that retail employees have a job to do, but there is a difference between being attentive and making customers feel like they're under surveillance. Unfortunately, because of that experience, we didn't feel welcome during our visit.

The clothing and jewelry are adorable -- some even look handmade -- and I did buy a few outfits and a cute pair of earrings. Prices are on the higher side, but the pieces are unique and eye-catching, so if you're looking for something different, it might be worth it. Unfortunately, checkout brought the experience down. Since I didn't need a bag, the sales associate handed me my clothes directly, but forgot my earrings. I didn't notice until I was halfway home. I tried looking everywhere for a phone number -- Yelp, the Ala Moana directory, the internet -- and couldn't find one. The only number I found just rang with no answer. So instead of calling, I had no choice but to drive all the way back through traffic. When I arrived, the sales associate saw me, handed me the earring, and said she was "going to text me." No apology, no "sorry for the inconvenience" -- nothing. Considering they have my number from the rewards program sign-up, that was disappointing. Overall, Sugar Sugar is a cute boutique with stylish pieces, but expect boutique pricing and limited dressing room amenities. The service could use improvement, especially when mistakes happen.

I purchased a small plush keychain, a tee, a magnet and a sticker and the cost was just over $90 - the cost of the tee surprised me the most as it's $55 and I was expecting this to be more in the $40-$45 range. The store is on the smaller side and even on a weekday afternoon after 3pm, it was packed. It's located at the end of the row of stores, adjacent to the side of the Royal Hawaiian where the Sheraton is. Staff at the store were nice and helpful with any questions that I had. Besides the plushies, they had a great selection of stickers as well as magnets and keychains. For decades, I was aware of how popular Miffy has been in Japan (my cousin in Japan had Miffy items since the 90's), but for the U.S., I feel it has become increasingly popular within the last 2-4 years or so. I'm not sure if it's possibly because the creator, Dick Bruna had passed away in 2017 and since then, licensing and the creation of more Miffy merch and collabs may have become more easier to come out with, at least that's been the speculation. Although I'm generally not a fan at all of Hello Kitty or Sanrio, nor do I particularly like rabbits, there is something about Miffy that does appeal to me more than Sanrio characters - likely the simple design and neutral expression on Miffy and that it came before Sanrio characters such as Hello Kitty and its European vibes. Before this, I'd ordered a plush Miffy keychain from the Kira online shop in SF. The keychain ended up being much bigger than expected for me to place on a bag/backpack so I decided that I'd stop by this store during my few days in HI to see if I can find a smaller keychain and maybe a tee as I heard this is currently one of only two Miffy themed stores in the U.S., the other being Miffytown in Kentucky. If you're in Honolulu and are a fan of Miffy, then this is worth checking out.

On the day before Lunar New Year, I saw many shirts of various colors and different designs hanging outside a shop! Inside, the clothes were neatly folded, and the dresses were hanging for better viewing. OMG... It was like t-shirt heaven! The shop was called YaFangShi Fashion. The friendly owner introduced herself and said that her name was Lian and that she's been here for 24 years! I had passed by often... and even bought a lavender-colored Cony umbrella, but didn't know the name of the shop. Looking around, Lian even had dresses, tops, jackets, footwear, accessories, and pants! I got a navy blue, medium-sized Year of the Dragon shirt for my nephew's girlfriend and gave it to mom to give to her on Lunar New Year. Everyone was happy! Yay! Happy Lunar New Year of the Wood Dragon!

Jo would not let us leave until my daughter found not only perfect dress but the shoes and accessories to match for my daughter's last minute prom. She was extremely awesome eventhough I was ready to go (I was tired from looking all day) she listend to my daughter's wants and set her up head to toe. Sign up for their rewards program on line and start earning points! You get a $5 reward for creating an account on line. She knew the fabrics (cotton vs. linen vs. bamboo), the origins of the prints, the styles, etc. Sally briefly explained the intricate process of making batik fabric. Wow... she even showed me a pattern stamp and swatches. She really knew her stuff... because she's worked at Noa Noa for over 13 years! I got a couple of dresses because natural fibers - such as cotton - should be cooler to wear. (I'm perspiring more because it's summer now...) I'll try itvout and get more at their smaller Waikiki shop or their new shop which will be nearby. Yay!

I walked in having no idea where to begin because there's so many beautiful garments to look at. I didn't have a style or color preference, I just knew I wanted to buy something nice. Aya politely asked me a few questions to narrow down the search. She then pointed out some of the different styles in my size. Together, we pulled a few dresses off the rack and Aya led me to a fitting room. Excitedly, I had four lovely dresses to try on. As I was in the fitting room, Aya politely offered information about the different fabrics, the variety of styles and sizes, she even explained the best method for gentle washing. When I came out of the dressing room without "the" dress speaking to me, Aya pointed out another rack that I had not yet browsed. Then BOOM, there it was! The color! The size! The fabric! The style! These are my reasons that I prefer to shop for gowns in person. Petite size needs some type of alteration(s) with common areas of adjustments in the length, shoulders, and so forth. She helped me select a few formal gowns while keeping in mind type of event and color(s). There's only one gown I found appealing that's befitting for my role. It was 50% off plus $9 extra off regular price. All sales and discounts final.

Shopping for Hello Kitty items in Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii…read more.. I first learned about the Vera Bradley brand from one of my high school friends. She told me how she really liked the durable, washable, lightweight, and colorful fabric. She's a smart shopper, so, I trusted her. However, at the time, I was a poor college student. Later in life, I learned about how this successful company started: From humble beginnings, two friends noticed how luggage - back in the day - was so drab and boring. They decided to market their unique products through college students... (there was no internet yet) and the rest is history! On the Island of O'ahu, there's a Vera Bradley shop in Waipahu at Waikele Premium Outlet. They won't have the latest prints such as this new collaboration with Hello Kitty. They do have discounted prices on older prints and styles. That's why I had to go to the Flagship Store in Waikiki. Located on the ground level of the International Marketplace - closer to the Kuhio Avenue side - Vera Bradley currently has Hello Kitty products in the display windows! I waited outside of the store until it opened at 11am. Luckily, it was a holiday (King Kamehameha Day) and I parked on the street for free. (I didn't want the stress of only getting two hours free with a $10 purchase at International Marketplace. I hadn't planned on going shopping. I was across the street at breakfast when I remembered that my friend, Angel, showed me photos of the new Hello Kitty items... Uhg!) I couldn't decide on what to get. I overheard the salespeople mentioning that it's "sold out online" and that they're getting calls from the mainland because they're the only store that still has Hello Kitty merchandise... Oh, the pressure! I looked at the blankets, towels, pillows, backpacks, notebooks, luggage tags, cosmetic bags, socks, flip flops, scrunchies, tumblers, bathrobes, sleepwear, etc. I figured that even if I could buy online, I would be saving money by not having to pay for shipping... So - I should get something now - while I'm there... I finally decided on a wristlet that can hold credit cards, coins, money, and cell phone! Taking my wristlet to the friendly cashier, she entered my information into the system and gave me a new "fresh" wristlet in a plastic bag from the drawer below! Yay! It's a "clean" one! I'm quite happy with my purchase! However... I looked online at home and saw that the Hello Kitty x Vera Bradley items are NOT sold out. I was disappointed to discover that this Limited Edition was released on June 1, 2023. How can they be sold out in just twelve days? Oh, well... We learn something new daily... I didn't want to buy online anyway...
