Among all the Macy's in the States, I visit this Macy's the most. I don't like crowded places, try to avoid people, and try to avoid shopping. But sometimes you need to do that. Good thing about this Macy's - you can get everything here but groceries and medications. Items for Kitchen, Bed and Bath, Men's work shirts, suits and neckties, under wears, Godiva Chocolates. I guess jewelries and cosmetics. The Pineapple Room by Alan Wong on the 3rd level. Parking - a lot of spaces right there. Sales all the time. If you don't have any deals, wait for a week, you will find some deals on Papers. If you have Macy's credit card, you get so many deal cards year around ... I have a Macy's local to me that I never go to at the mall my wife works at, but for some reason I thought this Macy's was like the best ever?? I needed a dress shirt for our friend's wedding the next day and I was able to find 3 different ones that I liked within 10 minutes of looking! After walking around some more, the deals just kept popping up and I walked away with more than I came in for, but I was tickle pink since I also got 20% off my entire purchase since they had a sale ending that day! I think if I remember correctly, this Macy's had 4 levels and each of them was huge! Maybe it's the location or the mall clientele, but I would definitely come back again to shop. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE Macy's! Probably THE BEST Macy's location on Oahu. Located at Ala Moana Center on the end near Shirokiya and LeSportsac. THREE floors of temptation (lol)! Mall level (middle) has MAC, cosmetics, perfumes, shoes (LOVE the shoe selection), juniors clothing, jewelry, and hand bags. 1st floor has mens clothing (formal wear, aloha shirts, juniors), cologne, and children's toys/clothes. 3rd floor has women's clothing and the Pineapple Room by Alan Wong, 4th floor has household items and bedding/bath items. Staff is usually friendly. The only negative I will say is that since the employees get commission off of the shoes so the employees can be a little more pushy at times OR not pay attention to you at all (in my experience). I ALWAYS end up buying a pair (at least!) while I'm shopping so for those employees who didn't help me... sucks to be you! The selection of brands is endless and basically you can get just about anything from this Macy's store. Macy is big corp company. They are all over the USA and i thought it was going to be best service. i only go into Macy when they have sale and other coupon offers. Last time i went here was for Christmas shopping and sale's man were very busy. I have walk around the Macy for almost an hour and no one ask me if i need help. maybe it's the clothes that i'm wearing compare to others but i felt disgrace. I was wearing gym outfit to go shopping. I don't feel they had that great of service and responsive customer service. when we were trying to check out one lady told us , this register was busy so if we could go somewhere else to pay. it was right by our exit door and we had to go find somewhere else. i think big compnay like this should hire more people in christmas season to help out more customer. read more

This is my favorite location because it has the largest selection of everything out of all of their stores in Hawaii. I love shopping their sales and almost always find major bargains! Prices are often lower than the marked down price. Score!!!! Use your macy's card and get even a larger discount. I also love that during the holidays they have their "Thanks for Sharing Program". $25 (portion goes to one of 4 charities) to participate and you'll receive 10% back of your purchases (not including tax) through the end of the year (I think). In February they send you a Macy's gift card with the amount you earned. We walked by the men's cologne island and were accosted by two ladies. "Try Chanel," said one. I motioned slightly away from her and the other one said "Try Eternity Blue." Christmas time. A season of giving, shopping, and wrapping. And of course, Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without the inevitable shopping trip to the mall. I tried to do as much Christmas shopping as could this year online. I mean I just love the fact that with just a few clicks of your mouse you can order a gift, possibly have it gift wrap, and have it sent on it's way to the gifted person you've selected to receive this wonderful package. Nonetheless, tis the season of giving and tis the season of shopping at Macy's. Especially when it's friends and family. However, during this trip to Macy's, I had no clue whatsoever that their annual friends and family shopping extravaganza was taking place (it goes from Dec 1 thru 6). My first stop was the men's floor where I have to say they had some pretty good bargains, which were greatly enhanced should you choose to use your Macy's card to score an additional 20% off the already heavily discounted price. With a few items in hand, I patiently waited my turn at the main cashwrap. Finally its my turn and I am helped by a quite friendly and polite young man. He asks me if I have any discount coupons of any kind, and of course I don't since I forgot to bring them with me. This young man should be given a gold medal, well possibly in the form of some kind of Macy's gold-employee-who goes beyond to help the customer get a discount-kind of medal. He kindly provides me with a friend and family coupon, which gives its owner an extra 25% off regular, sale, and clearance items. This discount was actually more than the discount I would have had just with using my Macy's card. I was very grateful to the cashier for being so kind. My last stop, thankfully, was the housewares/cooking wares section. I did browse around a bit longer than I expected since I had my trusty friends and family card in my wallet. I finally found a few things and proceeded to wait in the nearest cashier line to check out. Well, it just happened the the couple in front of me asked the cashier to call Pearlridge and Kahala to find out if they had some juice mixer in stock. I was ready to head to another line when the cashier graciously asked me to set my things on the counter and informed me she was going to ring me up while she was on hold. Let me say that was multitasking in its finest form as she professionally carried on a conversation while tagging, scanning, and bagging my items. I'm not much for department store shopping, unless it's Walmart, but since I was here on a recent rainy Saturday, I might as well check things out. I had a gift card that I had gotten for Christmas 2013, so I was like okay, what do I buy in Macy's that is worth $50? Light bulb moment for sure. This Macy's store boasts 4 stories of household goods, accessories, clothing, and anything and everything a person may need in their lifetimes, including make up. Macy's is the store for and catered to women, I would think, but I do see the guys walking around and checking things out, myself included. The store here has a vast array of stuff to purchase, believe me. I was also looking to buying new luggage and possibly looking at buying a new bed too. After looking around a bit on the 4th floor, I decided to shop around elsewhere to find what I was looking for. But since I had good experience with Westin and had amazing sleep while with that property a few times, I was interested in Macy's Hotel bed collection. It looked pretty upscale and regal, so I was like, that's pretty amazing, but still, there's probably drawbacks to it too, so I decided on holding off. I did ask the sales associate about this particular bed, and made my decisions based around that. The sales person was nice and professional, warm and friendly. That's just great to find in good customer service these days. With that said, this Macy's is located in the flagship shopping mall on Oahu's south shore, Ala Moana Shopping center. It's one of the major anchors of the shopping center and also sells Godiva chocolates too, to which I ended up buying with my $50 gift card. The lady at the register look surprised when I was carrying like 5 boxes worth of Godiva chocolate bars and the price out of pocket for me was just $7! That was awesome! Talk about a nice belated Christmas gift! I usually don't come to Ala Moana, so it behooved me to come down here and spend the giftcard and not let it go to waste, due to not having time to redeem it. Macy's is your quintessential department store, where you can find and discover what you want at the price you can afford. Yes, Macy's can be a little bit pricey, when you compare prices to Wal-Mart and Ross, but you do get quality and name brand recognition here, so that's what's makes this place so darn sexy. These large department stores has many shoppers just doing their own thing, shopping for good deals, etc, with some staff just wandering around kind of aimlessly, looking for people who need help. The sales floor is rather large with plenty of sales that can add up to a nice day's worth of profit on any given day. This Macy's location has FREE wifi as well, so that was a plus, when you want to multi task on the go. While this experience at Macy's was a good, productive one, I did not enjoy the fact that the cashier tried to push the Macy's credit card on me, especially when I have 4 already. Ugh. I rarely come to shop here at Macy's and I need another credit card? What is that about? Oh well. I guess that's how they make money. Still, the overall experience was pretty gratifying. It was something new and different to see, rather than the same old song and dance The parking here can be very viceral. Of course, Ala Moana Shopping Center can be crazy during peak times, so best believe shopping during non peak times is benefitial. Macy's Ala Moana is like every other Macy's besides the fact that is has a Hawaiian spin to it. Their Aloha clothing area's are fairly extensive, especially in their men's section. You can pretty much find their in house brand, Reyn's, Tommy Bahama, and Tori Richard's shirts. It's a pretty good selection and mix. You should be able to find something that fits your tastes. They always have sales and something is always on clearance, so the prices are usually pretty good. The have restaurateur Alan Wong's Pinapple Room as their place to eat. A very good place to taste Chef Wong's Hawaiian Fusion food. Excellent I say. Help may be hard to find sometimes, but I think most of the employees are stuck to their registers. This is my favorite store at the Ala Moana shopping center. They frequently have sales with an additional 10-20% coupon in the newspaper or mail. The Waikiki store is small and supply is limited, but the multi story Ala Moana store has just about every thing you need for men, women and children. The Australians love this store. Not sure why, except maybe for the currency exchange. Just about every time I have been there (and trust me, I go frequently) I have encountered an Aussie shopper or two. Latest purchases were two handbags. A Big Buddah for my daughter, regularly $150...after all of the mark downs I paid $45.00, and a Guess leather bag for me...after discounts I paid $30.00. Is it just me or is the new makeup set-up kind of... uh, chaotic? I get what they're after: they want the different brand stations. And it looks nice. But it doesn't feel cohesive. So I get kind of a crazy vibe going through there. I just want to go through and make it safely out the other end. You get the same set-up at Sephora, but there's cohesion: the employees are chill, they know each other and help each other. They're like really nice glue, keeping it all together. Sorry, back to Macys... So I went to Macy's for fragrance. I bump into two associates. I want to talk to the girl on the left, but the lady on the right wrangles me. Damn. She doesn't really listen to a word I say. Instead, she gets all excited about these fragrances and gives me three samples. And, oh, they've been really selling well so, duh, I guess I should get it, too, so I can smell like everyone else. Pfff! Macy's Ala Moana is trashy. They have such bad product recovery. At any given day, you can see two or three workers at the register chatting away while product lays about all over the place. The men's department is the worst. Clothes is in clutters, on the ground, underneath the fixtures or in a pile. It's so hard to want to shop here when everything looks like an episode of Clean House before they reveal the make-over. All the fixtures and visual displays are old, the carpet is dirty, there's exposed hardware on the walls (and no, it's not meant to have that industrial look), they just never bothered to fix it. And how do you get filthy ceilings anyway? It use to not be like this. About seven years ago, I loved coming here to shop. Now, not so much, it's like going to a bargain bin every time. Let's just say I've been to nicer looking Ross stores. So, in a pinch, sure why not, but for serious shopping...I'll take my chances shopping online. read more

Yes, often times you see stacks of shoe boxes or piles of clothes laying around, but probably because someone just came and tore through that place. Yes, sales associates in the shoe department can seem abrupt, but when you look around and notice they are helping 4 people at the same time, you have to realize that efficiency is the key to success. If you want your butt kissed and coddled, go to nieman marcus. Stop complaining about the service you get when you're buying a shoe at 60% off, and there are a hundred other women trying to shop too. that being said, i went to macys yesterday for the first time in a year, having no longer lived on oahu. The level of service was really just stellar. In the fine jewelry and the swimsuit departments, the ladies there were incredible. You receive a prompt friendly greeting as soon as you start browsing, and they offer to help you find something if you're looking for anything in particular. If you have a question, they go out of their way to help! True, sometimes the sales associates have a difficult time with speaking english, but bear this in mind: hawaii is SO multi-cultural, and maybe Macy's hires them for being able to communicate with other shoppers who can't speak english either. read more

A friend of mine worked at the women's shoes dept at Macy's so I have held off on writing a review for a while until she retired. (Yes- some people retire from Macy's.) Now that the Downtown Macy's/ Liberty House is closed - my closest Macy's is now Ala Moana. It is the best location for the big box store- many shoppers can go to the pineapple restaurant and eat- just like the famous Chicago big stores that have high class restaurants in the stores - here too- I don't believe any of the other Macy's have that here on Oahu any more- feel free to correct me if I am wrong. But the point being- it is an expense but also has added value- I believe they do a service to their customers well by offering it. For clothes- they have a great selection of always in style fashion. You don't see many steals but you do find reasonably priced for hawaii usually. Usually the workers are top notch or above par - and they are always able to help answer questions. Also- gotta get some Frango mints. Having a disability, I called Macy's to purchase a sale item over the phone. Only to be told that I had to have a Macy's card. And that they couldn't hold an item for even one day any way. It sounded ridiculous so I called the executive office. Fortunately I talked to Jeri Miyashiro, the Assn't Operations Mgr. Jeri was great, very understanding. She said of course I could use a regular credit card and processed the sale. Then she asked where I lived and when I told her 5 minutes away, she asked if she could drop it off for me! This is Hawaii's flagship and largest Macy's at 5 floors. Inventory is well stocked and selection is great. The layout is easy to shop and access is quick from the parking lot. There's a restaurant inside called Pineapple Room by chef Alan Wong. I still haven't eaten here yet but it's on the list. Service is good and not "dog eat dog" like we experienced at the flagship New York location, which by the way is a must-see. read more

Macy's Flagship store in Honolulu is a grand shopping arcade that takes up a whole wing of the Ala Moana shopping center. Even with the purchase of longtime mainstay Liberty House in the 1990's, both names are wildly popular with locals here in terms of shopping. It seemed like nothing changed at all when they bought out Liberty House. Men's Section The men's section takes up an entire bottom floor of the store. There are island wear sections, a separate Ralph Lauren area,, young men's, and shoes. The young men and contemporary clothing area takes most of the space. Selection is pretty good, but I would say it is quite hard to find specific articles of clothing mainly because of the large ocean of clothes to choose from. My only gripe about the men's section is that the men's shoes area is small. There is hardly anything there compared to its competitor Nordstrom. Women's Section The women's section takes the mall level of the store. I can't say much about it, but not surprisingly, they have a HUGE shoe department. Also for us guys who are buying beauty products for their lovely ladies, they have most of the good brands there. Housewares Housewares in Macy's is odd. Everyone knows that Macy's markups on housewares are ridiculous. It is almost like every week they have a sale on something there so when things are on sale, it seems like it is more in line with regular prices. The key is to buy things here when they are on a deep sale and try to stack discounts such as the Macy's Card ones. I wish Macy's did bring in better brands (more in line with Nordstrom) on a variety of clothing like they have with the beauty products section. I find most of their male stuff to lack some quality. Every time I go here (outside of work) I always expect to see helpful sales associates, clean sections and good selection. It often isn't the case during the holiday season but at least they do their best. Located on the diamond head side of ala moana center, they were once called liberty house. They have a great selection for men, women and kids. They also have many sales and this is the flagship store for a reason. It's huge. They also have a good linen and housewares section. Def. look out for the one day sales. It doesn't hurt to take advantage of the Macy's.com offers. They even price match! The only thing they need to work on is the restrooms. There isn't as many stalls and the lines get long. Also, only 1 elevator. And it's sad that customers with children take their strollers on the escalator when they are supposed to use the elevator. Oh well. There's so much that they can control. Otherwise def. will go back for more! read more

My parents were in town visiting and wanted to buy me some nice clothing, and get a few quality Hawaiian shirts for themselves as well. We got so many great articles of clothing and I even fit some nice shoes. My dad loved his shirts and kept talking about how quality the fabric was, and the design was really nice too. My mom got a beautiful dress that we took family photos in and we didn't even spend that much money. This store also has really great Tommy Bahama shirts and sweaters, and I got one of those that I've really enjoyed wearing. I recommend this place. read more

We bought two double sized mattresses at Macy's mattress store in their Ala Moana store. They are called "The Beautyrest Silver Waterscape Plush." We also purchased their warranty that if something happens then they will replace it. Man, both their mattresses and their warranty suck big time! First my wife's mattress compressed down to their minimum of 2 or so inches within the first few months, so much so that you could even feel a split between the foam several inches down! So we followed through with our warranty and contacted them for a replacement. They said that a local company makes the replacement mattresses, which we thought would be okay. But after when we got the replacement...it was hard as almost sleeping on the floor with a thick carpet! NOT the nice comforting plush mattress we originally purchased! Then I felt so bad for my wife I traded her and gave her my mattress! Now my mattress that I gave my wife is also compressing down, so much that it's like sleeping on a hammock! Well, she kinda likes this but it gives me a sore back if I ever tryout her bed now. DO NOT BUY YOUR BEDS HERE IF YOU WANT A GOOD BED!!! read more

Been here many times before. I was there last weekend and was browsing the clothes in the juniors section. Background info: I own a medium-sized bag with inside pockets where I keep my phone. I was pressed for time so I would open my purse to check the clock on my phone. Idk if the worker saw me open my bag and thought I took something--I didn't--but she kept staring at me. IF you are out at your counter, which I understand, it gets busy... cardboard is in short supply.. whatever the excuse.. you should NOT be sending your customers from counter to counter in your department to hunt down these boxes for purchases they made at YOUR establishment. a short errand took much longer because workers were too lazy to find the boxes for us, so we had to wait in line at multiple counters while the workers gave their spiel about signing up for "thanks for sharing" rewards, explain about how to use a Macys store card & pay it off in the same transaction, etc etc only to have it come to our turn and be redirected somewhere else. This was the third store I went in at Ala Moana Center, looking for a simple slip for a sheer dress I own. Thankfully, they had exactly what I was looking for! They were a LITTLE pricier than I'd hoped on the item I needed, BUT, I additionally found some cute Calvin Kline lady boxers in clearance for 6 bucks and some change; not bad!! They were also QUITE disorganized and messy, which made it a bit frustrating as a shopper to sift through things and find what I needed, but overall, the staff was for the most part pleasant. More importantly, I didn't have to go into ANOTHER store hunting for my slip, and was able to head home after my stop here; ultimately, that made me a happy shopper! ;) read more

Macy's says "No" to Mommies that breastfeed! How outrageous is this?! A friend of mine who is a wonderful mom was breastfeeding and the manager in that department told her she was indecently exposing her self! She also asked her to either leave or go to the bathroom to feed her baby in there. I wonder if the manager would like to eat her lunch in the bathroom?? It's not like my friend was standing in front of everyone showing off her breast, she was just feeding her baby discreetly. FYI: there is a law in Hawaii that protects moms who breastfeed in public. Also, breastfeeding has so many benefits. This manager must not have breastfed her children or doesn't have any of her own. Happy Camper. Found my Nine West ballerina flats at 40% off original price and then an additional 40% off of that. None of the Macy's in the mainland have 'em anymore! Finally! Found some shoes for my wedding! Been everywhere today! Thank you Macy's! This day was set aside to go on a hunt for my wedding shoes that were not grandma style, needed to be cute, yet comfortable to wear on the ranch. No stilettos here! After about five stores, my fiance and I finally made it to Macy's. I browsed the cute selection and as I came around the bend saw two to die for selections. Now the hard part, where is someone to help me? Perfect moment, just as I looked up, I saw a short bald guy standing across the room, even amongst all the crowd we managed to make eye contact and smiled. Yes! He knew what to do. Being crazy w mom... If you are going to be here on the busiest shopping day, wait until after 2 or 3 am. It is dead in the store and you will have plenty of room to shop. Found everything I wanted and more. Was able to use all of my coupons as I didn't feel like it was a total waste of a trip. read more

The prices here are pretty high, but the quality of merchandise is great. The service of this establishment was mediocre at best. I had to wait several minutes every time I go just for service. Usually I see workers just standing around talking and talking... IMHO I would rather suggest shopping at Sear's (or if you're military, at the exchange). However, I gave this place three stars since Black Friday sales items here are spectacular to say the least!! I didn't mind standing in line for 30+ minutes at the cashier. For the Black Friday sale prices and merchandise, it's well worth it! read more

Ahhhh Macy's... how you have sales so often that I never buy anything at full retail price! I hardly shop here but lately, everyone has given my baby clothing from here that I find myself here every weekend returning something. That's okay though because we enjoy buying our baby clothes from here. I love the fact that their exchange thing is a breeze and no one fights you about it. The associates are polite but not really too friendly but that's okay because I usually like to keep to myself while shopping anyway. You can always find a deal within the depths of many a sales rack whether it be a men's dress shirt or a nice work dress. read more

Re: Lancome department I walked around the entire display, stopping to look at PWP's AND passing 3 associates talking to each other. I was not greeted or acknowledged. I stopped by the eye makeup and was there for several minutes before being asked if I needed assistance. I pointed out exactly which item I needed but was still asked which color. The associate had to go back to the display to check - really???? When she was ringing me up, she needed assistance from a supervisor who seemed to reprimand her regarding her time, in front of me. Seriously, reprimands, no matter how kindly you are doing it, should not be done in front of customers. Now I know why I do not go to Ala Moana. I will take my business back to Kahala, even if it is out of the way! They are friendlier and more helpful! Thinking about returning my purchase and going to Kahala to get it! read more
