Aloha! As many times as I have window shopped at Salvage Public at South Shore Market throughout the years, it wasn't until I saw Hōkūpa'a, Nāpali, and another staff (I hope you can forgive me for not asking for your name) at their pop-up location in Hilo. The Merrie Monarch vibes must have kicked in and I had to finally pop that cherry. I initially went with my hula family and used that time to soak everything in. The next day I went back alone to purchase a few items I couldn't stop thinking about. Both Nāpali and Hōkūpa'a hyped me up during my visit and all items I tried on was sold on the spot. Countless hugs and mahalo were exchanged during my encounter with them. Again, I had to go in a third time just to mahalo your (business) ʻohana during my trip to Hilo! Just about a week later I figured I would "window shop" again during my lunch break at South Shore Market and I was able to catch up with Hōkūpa'a. Then after some time of being educated about the items at the store I was sold again - resulting in me purchasing even more items than I did in Hilo! More hugs and mahalo were shared that day. I can't thank Nāpali a me Hōkūpa'a and the rest of the Salvage Public ʻohana enough for your continued legendary service every time I visit. read more

Bad customer service, Whoever was working mid day today. No greeting at all, & I was the only person In store kind of snubbed me like if I wasn't good enough to be in that store, rubbed me the wrong way and just ended up walking right out! That worker needs to learn customer service and learn how to greet customers!! read more

Guy working there is rude as can be. Super condescending. Not the owner but some guy who's been there awhile. Bigger guy with black hair. Just overly sassy, short and doesn't care about your questions and leaves a poor impression. Please rethink your staff. Anyone would be better. Love the clothes though! read more

Service sucks, used to come here all the time but from time to time the person that is always there would have attitude when asked a simple question. Recently I simply asked for a shirt in a larger size and he stood there and smiled and didn't move didn't move. So I thought he didn't hear me so I asked again and he gave the craziest attitude!. Ended up tossing the shirt in the changing room and just walked out like he was pissed. Store is always slow, I wonder why! Don't let that person represent your brand. Ok. A little torn! I have purchased some of their t shirts and I LOVE THEM. However, I love them because I purchased them while they were on sale, 30% off. The designs are very modern Hawai'i and are very creative yet simple. What I can't wrap my head around is the outrageous prices for cotton t shirts. I'll come back. Cool items. Over priced but pretty cool. Staff on the other hand, not cool. Dude that's always there is pretty rude. Rude to me and my wife on separate occasions. Couldn't sell water to a man in the desert. Lifeguarding at a local pool would suit him better. Actually, that's too much responsibility. Perhaps a parking lot attendant is better. And stop photographing your clothes on the floor. Looks realll lame. People really like your stuff out here but bad apples in the store front are going to ruin any shot you have. read more

They have stylish new collections (love the colors and designs) however their limited size range is a significant drawback. Despite being a Hawaiian brand, they fail to cater to the diverse body types of their local demographic the way that brands like Sig Zane and Manaola do. Expanding their size options would be huge. Here's hoping they take this feedback to heart and embrace size inclusivity soon. read more

Great store Clean and tidy Decent displays Clothes designs are awesome! Super overpriced but seem well made and cleverly designed! Great colors and design ideas with local sensibilities! It's a shame that the two sales people chatting away said not one word to me! At those prices and supposed high end market you'd expect better service! I'm new to yelp, and this is my first review (yay!). I came back to Hawaii to take care of my family and had some time to myself, so I decided to browse Ward. Sheesh, things have changed since I've been gone!! This is the first store in south shore market that caught my eye, and like a magnet, I was just drawn to it. The vibe was sleek and modern. I was giddy when I found out it wasn't a mainland store and that these guys were all from Hawaii. *insert proud face* :') The clothes are unisex with some women's items. Still, I purchased a sweater with a Hawaiian fern, and let me tell you, I can't take it off - It will definitely keep me warm in SF!! So lush, comfy, and a plethora of compliments to boot. Luckily they have an online store, so I'll be able to keep tabs on this brand. The only thing I was upset about was the small selection of jewelry (grr!) The store looked a little pricey at first glance, but their T-shirts and Aloha shirts were surprisingly the same prices or less as other generic stores. I asked the man some questions, and he said they design everything! My husband tried on an Aloha shirt and LOVED it. He said it was the most comfortable button-up he ever tried - so we got it! Unfortunately, there wasn't a big selection for women, but he said they are coming out with more womenswear, so I'll be back for that. ;) This store was such a surprise, and to find out that everything is LOCALLY made and designed was shocking. I can't believe I hadn't checked it out sooner, but it made me very happy to support Hawaii businesses! read more

Staff are awesome and the designs are really cool. They're really chill and have clothes that are designed locally but made in Japan. So you get the best of both local design and Japanese quality. Def check it out and all the local art on the walls. read more

Def one of the best menswear store in HNL. It's reminiscent of Aloha Sunday, but with a step-up in styles. Their Aloha shirts are a bit pricey at $100 but the fabric is out of this world. They've got great T-shirt's and long sleeves as well (a bunch in indigo dyed in Japan) Def a must-go if you're looking for contemporary and well-made and tailored surf wear. read more

I love the concept. I love the shop. I just wish they were there during business hours. I was waiting there today during business hours, ten minutes, twenty minutes, thirty minutes; I even went next door to another shop to see if someone else knew what was happening. I saw a guy walk into the mall, go to the Salvage Public door, realize it was closed when it should have been open, and then he told me this wasn't the first time this has happened. The only place I buy new clothes at! The prices might seem deterring but this is the only place where I've been able to find unisex modern vintage clothing. The newer collections are single stitched and mock neck styled in a breathable oversized heavyweight material. In sense, luxury clothing with local budget in mind. The designs itself aren't too flashy but still give a modern take with graphics off centered compared to what you usually find in commercial stores. Other prints have a crackle material that stresses over time - a plus is that it doesn't actually peel off no matter how many times I put it in the wash. The owner is usually in the shop which makes it enjoyable because you can really gage his passion for what he's creating. If you see something you like, I recommend getting it as soon as possible as things sell out quicker than you think because of online sells. Oh and not to mention, you support a local Native Hawaiian brand! read more

By far my favorite Hawai'i brand. In this age of fashion, Salvage Public blends Hawaiian motifs with extremely high quality fabrics from Japan to create a unique look blending the two worlds. They have pieces from surf wear to fleece jackets and occupy a space between Hawaiian designs and high fashion and do so very tastefully. The owners show the utmost care in the creation of their collections and it shows. Although the pricepoint may seem inaccessible and expensive at first, the quality of each garment is worth it. Such a shame that they leave the shop during regular business hours randomly without putting a sign up saying when they'll be back. My husband and I have come in not once but TWICE in the past two weeks, only to find no one is in there. We waited more than twenty minutes today (6/26) at about 3:30 pm only to just leave.
