I purchased many items from Mikinola over the years ever since they were at their first location because whenever possible I prefer to shop at locally owned small businesses. They are very talented with the way they style their outfits and the curated selection they carry. However one day I was shopping at Nordstrom Rack and I was shocked to see a Rails cardigan (that I was also considering at Mikinola) being sold for 60% less. That then prompted me to start looking up other items (Frame, Splendid, Bella Dahl to name a few) I had purchased before or had been thinking about buying that were still listed on their website, and I found that many of the exact same pieces were being sold elsewhere for 50-70% less. Nordstrom Rack, Bloomingdale's, Neiman Marcus, and even Bella Dahl's sale page had the exact same items deeply discounted, and those exact items were still being sold at Mikinola for more than double on their website or in their store. I get that small businesses can't always compete with large retailers, and I don't mind spending a little more to support a local business, in fact I always anticipate having to spend a little more every time I shop at any small/local business. But this is not just a 10% or 20% difference. It's *at least* double (and the items are not cheap so we're talking often a $100-$300 difference *per* item) and I feel completely bamboozled. This is one of many reasons it is becoming harder and harder for people to keep shopping locally. And I still believe in supporting local, but it goes both ways. P.S. I was torn between whether to leave 2 or 3 stars because their service and selection are fine, but the feeling is hard to shake after choosing for years to spend my hard earned money to support a little neighborhood shop and then finding out that I was paying/about to pay significantly more. I was definitely naive to spend that kind of money without doing more research or shopping around, but now I know. read more

They have impeccable taste and just know what works best for different body types and styles. All items are high quality and most times unique in my opinion. Mikinola is one of my favorite local boutiques! Located in Koko Marina, next to Moena Cafe, it is the best place for stylish high-quality clothes. With COVID going on, they are only doing shopping appointments on certain days (I believe right now it is MWF from 2-4pm and possibly Saturday). Or; they do orders through IG, phone or through their online store! During COVID, I prefer to do my shopping virtually. I love their IG as they use that platform to post about sales, updates and show off new stock regularly! Yes, some of the clothes are more expensive. But, you are paying for quality clothing from a LOCAL business. They source their clothing from various brands, most are also small businesses. Cheers to Mikinola in Koko Marina!! Super cute little boutique in Hawaii kai, in the shopping center with the theater, next to cafe moena. I've gone to this area several of times but not sure how I've overlooked this store all these years... but today, as I passed by on a walk with my mom and my dog, there was a rack halfway out the door with some blush pink and mauve items calling out for me to look at them. I step over and note the quality fabrics... proceed further into the store. To the left are some super cute on trend blush mauve color and grey silk bomber jackets. The Asian sales girl with blonde hair and intense lashes is quiet but very responsive and helpful to my requests. She has on an outfit from items also sold in the store- AG Farrah high rise jeans in the workroom wash... and a very cute ASTR Devon jacket in the white sand color. I'm totally loving the cute stuff in the store. I try on some gold filled feather threaders by a local artist Katrina Cordova; the Bella Dahl white top and the same jeans and jacket as the sales girl. I do my thrifty due diligence to price shop online before making my impulse purchases... hmm jacket is cheaper at a place in Brooklyn. I asked the sales girl if they price match- she calls the owner but unfortunately they do not. I love buying local when it's comparable or one-of-a-kind, or locally made, so I only go with the earrings for the day and ordered the jacket online. This store has a super cute collection of items and helpful staff. I will definitely be back. Came here for the first time last weekend and loved it! The price points are a little high for me to shop there all the time (not ballin' yet), but for a splurge or a special occasion, this is a go-to spot for sure! As soon as my friend and I walked in we were greeted. I wanted to get a dress that I had seen and inquired about a smaller size (XS instead of S/M). They checked their stock and they didn't have anything, but both girls working (I think owner & sales gal) were very helpful and told me how I could make it work for me. While I was trying on a bikini and the dress, they kept making sure that I was okay, which was really sweet. When I checked out, they were super sweet! I had gotten a gift certificate through email and they were so excited! I was a little confused, but they explained to me that was the first time they had ever done it. LOL. This review I based on their Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center pop-up store. What can I say, but wow and I'm going to miss them being so accessible to me. Their store is located in Hawaii Kai, which is literally on the other side of the island for me, so unless I've got to travel down there, I'm not going. So it was a treat to have them near by office, even for this short period of time. I could stop by after work and shop. I've scored a super cute 1.State blouse and the best Dolce Vita slip-ons; these shoes are literally the best accessories to your outfit. I stopped by their pop-up store few times before they closed and always had a great experience with the girls. They're so welcoming, they know their stuff and have a great eye for suggesting styles that complement you. The last time I visited their Hawaii Kai location was back in October 2017, which was also a great experience. I had some time in between my son's baseball game at Kaiser, so while I did a Jamba Juice run, I snuck in time to stop by Mikinola. So this is hands down my favorite boutique on the island. Dara and her girls always take the time out to help me and even pull items for me before I get there. They have stayed open late for me and always have options for me when I need outfits for events or just to feed my shopping addiction! Lol. I've been shopping at this store for several years now and I LOVE IT! The store itself has a super cute "shabby chic mixed with modern" type of feel. It is very neat and organized; the clothes are organized by style, color, and size, which means I can find things I love much more easily! (win!) The girls that work there are also dressed super cute and a lot of times I will walk in and ask them if they still have their outfits in stock because I want them! They will greet you right away, ask you what kind of things you are looking for, and then almost be like your personal shopper; helping you pick out outfits and other things that would go well with your style. I always find something that I "need" very quickly! Another thing that I like is the girls that work there aren't going to lie to you and tell you everything looks good on you just to get a sale; they will literally pick out a bunch of outfits they think you'll like and help you find an outfit that actually does look good on you. This is a BIG DEAL guys! Because let's be honest, a lot of other stores and boutiques will tell you everything looks great to get the sale, and then you get home and look in the mirror and then you're all like "whuuuut..." One thing that is bitter/sweet is that they don't buy tons of orders for each style because the store is always making sure they get in new, fresh looks. It is good because you know that there wont be a million other people out there with the same exact outfit on, but that being said, a lot of things sell out fast. My sister in law bought me a gift card for Christmas to here. I had never stopped in here before, and it's all the way out in Hawaii Kai. But I love going to new shops and boutiques so I couldn't wait to check it out. The sale people were soo helpful with suggesting outfits and accessories to match! I loved everything in here! All the clothes are very classy and modern. Being a somewhat new mom, I feel my style has need for improvement lately. I found an awesome dress that I can wear out for New Years! The jewelry is amazing! I guarantee there is something for every taste and style. I will definitely be shopping there on a regular basis. What a beautiful store! I stopped in today to take a second look (first time I was in too big a hurry) and I have been kicking myself all the way home for not going in sooner. I came out with two gorgeous dresses, a long gorgeous skirt and a classy top, all of which are beyond pleasant on the skin.... I would like to bathe in my shopping bag ;-). Bought a few things from here and most them (sage & faithful the brand) fell apart after one or two washes. (On gentle and in a garment bag!) one shirt was $56.00 and there is a huge hole in it already - so disappointing. That has nothing to do with this store but just the brands that they carry. One thing I did notice was that the workers wear all the clothes/jewelry and put it back on the rack. I felt kinda weird seeing them do that as I was trying on clothes. I usually wash my clothes before I wear it just in case that has happened but it's kinda gross if they're wearing an outfit for their shift only to change out of it resell it. Also, the workers are very friendly but a little aggressive when it comes to pushing sales. I feel like I'm a little older and I know what looks nice on me. I felt they were lying about how god things looked when I stepped out of the fitting room. Lol. I get it they want a sale but my goodness. It didn't work and I left with what I personally wanted. Definitely my one stop shop on island! This store literally has everything from everyday wear to special occasion outfits, shoes, jewelry, swimsuits, oh, and the cutest baby clothes! I really love that the store carries unique brands that you can't find anywhere else on the island. And they always have new arrivals, it never gets boring! The girls are all so nice! Whenever I stop by I feel like I'm shopping with my girl friends. Since shopping here I've noticed that all the girls are great at styling. I mean they've styled my pre pregnant body, through out my pregnancy, and now my mom bod. I also follow their Instagram page and they post all their new arrivals which I love. Idk about you but I like being able to see how the outfit wears/lays so it doesn't bug me that the girls take pictures in the outfits, it's not like they're excessively working out in them... But anyway sometimes when I'm too lazy to drive out there or I don't have time I just check out their IG story and see the new arrivals and from their I ask if they can hold an item for a day so I can try it on or I just do a phone order.
