When I saw Lyla's blouse recently (and Lyla), it reminded me about the Jams Factory Store. I had it bookmarked for a while and I was in Kalihi, so... The address is on Puuhale Road, across from the prison (Oahu Community Correctional Center). The actual entrance is on Hau Street with several parking spaces in the front. I walked into a relatively spacious and organized store with two dressing rooms in the back. The air conditioning is much appreciated and the service by Amy was great! I tried on many items - some of them half off of the original price! Note: the spaghetti straps on the dresses were the adjustable type, so I got an extra large (because I liked the print) as well as a medium. This local company is known for its bold designs, colorful prints, and comfortable styles. When I wear the dress (that I got on sale at Macy's) to the mainland, strangers will compliment me because it's an original contemporary Hawaiian design! Come visit the store! Besides clothing, they also have tote bags, accessories, children's sizes, men's Aloha shirts, skirts, key fobs, cosmetic bags, readers, sun glasses, body lotion, quilting squares, and more! Very disappointed in Outlet Sale! Used to always go & could find beautuful dresses! I love the bold vibrant colors & prints! Havent been in such a long time...did not even know they moved! Much smaller store. Had old prints & styles from 10 years ago! Still expensive & looked really old, not vintage old. So sad :( I guess i better keep my Jams from long ago. I recently purchased a maxi-dress and a couple of blouses from their Ward Centre retail shop to bring with me on an upcoming trip. Hey, I figured why not wear my Aloha?! But, I was looking for a specific print, Monstera, which I was informed had been "retired" after 3 months of being on the floor but the sales person mentioned this Factory Store where it MIGHT still be available. Whaaat? I knew that Jams/Surf Line was a local company but never thought of looking for its factory store. So, I went to my trusty Yelp App to look for this store. Jams World/Surf Line has an outlet in addition to its retail and online shopping experiences which recently moved from Kalani Street over to Puuhale Street in Kalihi. This store has about 8 parking stalls and you enter into a building that warehouses their factory and this outlet. You can't miss this building as it faces the OCCC (O'ahu Community Correctional Center) aka prison with its painted surfer on its exterior. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted by Christine. She asked if we were looking for anything specific, I mentioned the Monstera print which I was in search for. She quickly replied that that print was only available online as she brought up the webpage. In the meantime, I continued to browse the store. She asked me if I was looking for a specific garment piece...why, yes..I asked for a pants shirt which is a little fitted yet sort of like a man's shirt. She found my size and said that I could order it online. Well, after telling her that I live on island I don't feel the necessity of having to pay for delivery ($10) she asked the online customer service to have it delivered to the store instead. Yay! I appreciated Christine's assistance in getting me the garment, print and size that I wanted. So tomorrow, I'll be back to pick it up and pay for it. Thanks to Yelp, there's even a 20% discount off your total purchase! There is comfortable seating and interesting and colorful decor for those not shopping. While selection is limited so is the mark up! Savings 30-50%. read more

I absolutely love this 'Made In Hawaii" brand featuring rayon fabric. At first I thought the prints were all crazy and uber-colorful but there are so many prints (Copyrighted like Tommy Bahama) that aren't as "all up in your face." I don't like everything, BTW. Some prints are very loud. I like bright, not loud. My husband thinks that they are too much- too many colors together. I've seen this brand all over the island- in small stores, department stores like Macy's, and namesake stores in Ward Centers and Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. Retail prices are high- up to $160 for a dress. My dear husband bought me a (Mariah) dress in the Outrigger for $130 (it was marked $160)- I saw it in the window on the mannequin and tried it on- it fit me like a glove; it's gorgeous and feminine. It was my Valentine's Day gift (he's good to me)- that was a search in itself (you know how it is, you have a gift card to a place, and you're stumped, which is ironic because it's burning a hole in your pocket). So, that purchase marked the start. The nice sales lady told me about the Outlet store, but quickly added that the dress just purchased was not one of the ones available there (past season stuff ends up there). Imagine my surprise when I found out about this outlet store (My love affair with outlet shopping began early as my mom took me to the ones in the Bay Area when I was 9 years old- Esprit). We chose a driving day; we came here after breakfast. Park in the parking lot. It's a huge store carrying all the brands by Jams World (Surf Line). There are dressing rooms in the front. The other patrons besides myself were senior ladies with their husbands- probably retired. One of them was probably a local, because she kept talking about missing a big sale just a few days ago; her husband wasn't really all too concerned though (I thought that the prices were good). There were two ladies working there, busily working on more inventory (this is headquarters- where the orders are filled on the website too). In the front are the higher priced items: dresses were $55. In the racks to the side, were clearance items, mostly for women, skirts, tops, pants, and vests. It's an odd-shaped building (addition maybe?). You go through the narrow hallway into a warehouse; bathrooms just past the hallway, but the door is kept open (FYI). Here there are racks and tables of bargains, women's (impressive inventory), men's (kinda small), and children's (not bad). Besides the clothes, there are shorts, surf shorts, exclusive fabric swatches (in cubed bunches) and flip flops. So many choices! A nice breeze from the open windows is welcome as it can get a little warm inside. The dresses (Mariah & Connie- contemporary fit) and skirts seem to fit me the best- very flattering. The tanks do not look right on me. What did I get? I got four pretty skirts for about $53 (score!). I should of gotten that blue dress (dresses are my favorite thing to wear) though- next time? Parking was a little high- we were there a while. I like to browse through everything. And of course try everything on. (My husband was very patient- kudos to him.) Next time, I'll concentrate on the dresses and the skirts. Summary store specifics: parking garage, clean, large open outlet store with lots of variety of merchandise in varying price ranges and sizes that's clearly marked and numerous markdowns/clearance racks (love that), bathrooms, dressing rooms, and non-pushy staff. (Dark outlet stores are bad.) I saw someone wearing a tunic from jams World- it was beautiful. It's funny how you start noticing other people on vacation wearing certain brands. This is one of my favorite Hawaiian brands now. read more

Jams World is a true factory warehouse store. This little store is chock full of merchandise but with a limited selection of styles, prints, and sizes. If you like Jams' clothing (bright tropical surf and beach wear) and don't mind last year's prints, you will probably find something you like at 50-75% off retail. Several of the women who work there are really nice. During my last trip they were chatting and talking to me as if I was part of the family. It was a hoot. TIP for women: If you haven't bought Jams before, TRY on before you buy. Sizing is all over the place and the store won't take returns. I fit a size S shirt, a size L skirt, and a size L jacket; my normal size is petite M. The fitting booths don't offer much privacy, but at least there is no waiting. read more

Heaven if you are a Jams fan. Most dresses and shirts are $30-$35. Shorts and some sale items $10. Mostly size Small, limited selection of size M L and XL. They also have some XXL-XXXL. Worth the trip to this industrial park. lol it's across the street from the local prison with barb wire fence and guard towers. Afterwards we took a 15 minute walk to eat local food at Ethel's as seen on Travel network. Also closer by there's a cheap takeout Manapua and chow fun takeout kitchen. Afterwards we also went to the Jams retail store in the nearby Ward Center shopping mall. Better selection and some 60% off sale after Xmas. read more

Their return policy is not as easy as you would think. I was told I had to return to the store the next day because the sales rep. didn't want to be the one to process a refund for such a large amount. I felt their was something personal such as a large commission would be missed out on as a reason both the sales rep. and the store manager were reluctant to issue a refund. I had the receipt, clothing, but then noticed that none of the items had a tag on. I was looked at as if I removed them. The store manager then admitted that she had removed them all at the time of purchase unbeknownst to me? I felt that was done purposely. Coming from a sales back round I knew it was going to sting to have the items returned if someone was getting commission, I just thought that it wouldn't have been delivered in such a tacky manner. read more

Last week I ordered two dresses from JamsWorld online. Shipping two dresses was $20. ground, MUCH higher than normal. I purchased the dresses based on their size chart, and they were HUGE. I called to do an exchange, and their exchange policy is nonexistant. You must return the existing items at your expense, and reorder new items online, on your own, either paying for them up front, or waiting to order until they receive your merchandise and process your refund. WHERE IS ZAPPO's WHEN YOU NEED THEM. All in all, two dresses will cost me $60.00 in shipping and three weeks of my time. NO THANK YOU. Disappointed with the selection at this store on my recent visit. they used to have many nice dresses selections, now not much at all and the newer dress patterns are blah. The dress designers back in the late 90's were awesome. Their dresses styles were very forgiving. Now aday, their new dresses styles are poorly designed. Did a fashion show for them. Great customer service in shop an admin office. Cool clothes, old lady fashion but made for comfort! I'm thinking about getting an accessory from the shop since the bags are fun, colorful, and BIG! I say, try to at least walk into the store, this company has been around for a long time and there's probably a reason why. See if you like anything and if not, see if you're mom or grandma might. I'm a fan of Jams World so usually buy my pieces on Jams website or on eBay. I was visiting in Honolulu so decided to visit the factory store. Perhaps, it was not the right timing but I was disappointed in the selection. The sale was only 50% of retail which range from $48 for a tank top to $143 for a long dress. Shirts retail typically run $88 to $110. I was expecting 60-75% of retail since merchandise are all past years. However, I did find a couple sample pieces at good bargain - $30 for a long dress (regular price $123). If you are a fan of Jams World, you may be willing to pay the high price. All their clothing are 100% rayon. I understand the print designs are from Japan and the clothing are made in Hawaii. The prints are absolutely beautiful but very bright in colors. To my disappointment, I learned that the on-line prices are $10-15 more than the retail price at their shops in Hawaii. If you purchase on-line make sure to ask detailed questions regarding the neck line, waist, bust & hip because based on my experience each line will fit you differently. The sizes run rather large & not all cuts fit the same. Factory outlet is not easy for visitors to find - just look for the bright green door. read more

Love this store! When you think of muus muus and aloha shirts you often think tacky, but this place is the couture of hawaiian prints! You will surely find something you adore. My boyfriend and I came into the store looking to find matching outfits and the sales associate was very helpful and found several matching options. We ended up walking away with one that satisfies us both. I actually bought another because I liked the fit so much. The fabrics are soft and are comfortable to wear. The only thing that got us are the prices. It's not cheap, but since we were playing tourists I didn't mind the price too much. read more

IF you like the Jams World style than this may be worth a trip. Fairly large, clean store with plenty of stock and friendly staff is tough to notice in the middle of a large warehouse streetfront. Small sign is the only marker. No dedicated parking. Prices are about 30-50% less than Jams World stores at Ward. Men's shirts were in the $50-$65 range. But if you are not a fan of the bright '80's Italian Riviera style prints the high prices will not entice you. read more

Just realized that I didn't update my previous review of 1/27/12. When I phoned that day/date to ask about replacement buttons, whomever I spoke to said they didn't have replacement buttons. Thought I'd take a chance and visited them several months later, and one of the workers went to the factory (?) side of the building, and came back with several loose buttons, one of which was a close copy for my Jams shirt and which they gave me free of charge. Signed up for their sale flyers which they mail out periodically, and continue to visit the store every so often to buy Jams clothing for myself and my nieces. read more

The 1451 Kalani Street location is the factory store, which sells overruns and "last year's" styles for a pittance. It keeps an extensive inventory of women's, men's and children's clothing. The Jams World retail outlet is in the Ward Village shopping center on Ala Moana Blvd. Their clothing begin with prints from artists' designs screened onto textiles in Japan and cut and assembled at the Kalani Street factory. The patterns are unique and ever changing. Not inexpensive at retail, but great value for the quality. My wife and I have Jams World clothing we've bought over the years, and their colors remain fresh and vibrant. read more
