Located on the second floor of Ala Moana, shopping center. Local motion has been one of the local store on the island for many years. They have lot of T-shirts, surf shorts and they also carry other name brands too. T-shirt usually cost about $23 or so, pretty good price. I brought a very traditional T-shirt with their logo on it. If you come to visit Hawaii, you should go get one Local motion shirt and bring home. Go check it out.

Local Motion is located on the third level of the Ewa Wing at Ala Moana Center. I stepped foot into the clothing store a couple of times already. The advertisement of buy one get second one 50% off captured my attention. Each time I stepped foot into the store the employees would greet me right away. During my first visit I walked around the store until I reached the men's section and I found a rack with sweaters. Some of the sweaters were hoodies while other sweaters had the zipper in front. I ended up grabbing two sweaters with the zipper in front. I paid for my items using my credit card. On my most recent visit to Local Motion was on Mother's Day 2019. My mom and I walked into the store and started to browse around. My mom mentioned to me that she wanted tank tops. We looked at the women's tank tops and we found couple of them. I grabbed two XL tank tops for my mom. We then went to the men's section and I found two tank tops that I liked. Two of the items were regular priced while the other two items were 50% off. I paid for the four tank tops and gave Mom her items while I kept the other two. Mom was happy with her Mother's Day gift.

On a hunt for some sustainable swimming shorts? These ones are made from up-cycled coconut "waste" and plastic bottles to create perfect performance shorts - fast-drying and odor-resistant! Good design, have a pocket on one side with Velcro and a string to attach keys etc. Tested by my husband - very good quality!

Pretty cool shop. Typically Surf / Skate clothing offered. A little bit more of trendier end of clothing as a opposed to places. They have some great brand and they also produce their own clothing and accessories. I just got this cool 20 L dry bag backpack for $28. I've been to marine store and saw basically the same for as much $60 in the past, without any backpack straps. They had lots of different sizes and very useful in Hawaii where there's a lot of exposure to the elements. I usually browse the shirts and board shorts here Own a shirt or two. They make their own Aloha shirts too. It's nice to have lots of local shops doing their own thing in the area. I need to stop in more often they have some cool products.

Soft opening for the new Local Motion in Ala Moana, and I must say, I'm really impressed. Located in the old Diesel spot that was next to their old location, Local Motion has always been one of my favorite places to shop, and they really stepped up their shopping experience. A lot of their clothes are efficiently and tastefully displayed making sure you know the product youre buying. They have a pretty sick mural in their board room, which they expanded. And, I've been told that the mural will change every so often which is pretty awesome. Their merchandise is always on point, and they have a good selection of both surf and lifestyle. Definitely a must shop for surf gear.

The Merrie Monarch vibes must have kicked in and I had to finally pop that cherry. I initially went with my hula family and used that time to soak everything in. The next day I went back alone to purchase a few items I couldn't stop thinking about. Both Nāpali and Hōkūpa'a hyped me up during my visit and all items I tried on was sold on the spot. Countless hugs and mahalo were exchanged during my encounter with them. Again, I had to go in a third time just to mahalo your (business) ʻohana during my trip to Hilo! Just about a week later I figured I would "window shop" again during my lunch break at South Shore Market and I was able to catch up with Hōkūpa'a. Then after some time of being educated about the items at the store I was sold again - resulting in me purchasing even more items than I did in Hilo! More hugs and mahalo were shared that day. I can't thank Nāpali a me Hōkūpa'a and the rest of the Salvage Public ʻohana enough for your continued legendary service every time I visit.

The line was long, but it wasn't that bad (approximately 20 minutes). Once we got in line, we were handed these tickets for entry. Anyway, I guess if you're a Stussy person and want the exclusive Stussy Honolulu shirt, this is the place! From what I hear, people line up at 6am to get the Stussy Honolulu shirt in black or white, so I guess that's why the yellow ones were the only ones left at night. I've shopped at many luxury brands before, and none of them made customers feel as unwelcome as this store did. Being a popular brand is not an excuse for poor customer service. It honestly feels like they're using "scarcity marketing" to create an exclusive image while treating customers with indifference. Very disappointing experience. I won't be coming back, and I wouldn't recommend this store to anyone. There are plenty of other brands that value their customers much more.

I would stock up on socks and sweaters with abandon from the Uniqlos closer to my home in San Francisco. That was why it surprised me that I would seek out this familiar store at the mammoth Ala Moana Center. However, I had seen a local vlogger's YouTube video where he showcased the Hawaiian-exclusive clothing they sell here. Jamie W and I decided to drop by when we were at Ala Moana. Although not at the scale of the Tokyo Ginza flagship, it's one of the global chain's larger stores with an expansive multi-floor space. They offer the Brands Hawaiian Loco line, which is quite a distinct array of T-shirts spotlighting locally renowned businesses like Leonard's Bakery, Hawaiian Airlines, and Zippy's. I even bought one featuring a bowl of Zippy's saimin called Zipmin (Photo 4). I also really liked their line of aloha shirts because designs came from top quality Japanese block prints. I fell in love with one shirt based on Hokusai's "The Great Wave Off Kanagawa". I had never seen one like that before. I was put in an odd spot. Surely not in my comfort zone…read more You see, a friend from Japan came to Hawaii and when asked what he wanted to do, surfing came up. As a local boy born and raised in Oahu, I'm embarrassed by the fact that I cannot swim. Surfing clearly out of the picture. I used to work in the Japanese tour agency many blue moons ago where I recall a surfing school that offers surfing lessons. My friend already knows how to surf so I didn't think this was for him so I asked one of my physical therapists who surfs regularly. He introduced me to a surfing school that's at Ala Moana Beach where I was given their website, which is also available in Japanese. I forwarded the information to my friend prior to his arrival to Honolulu where he didn't jump at it and said he'd think about it. On his arrival I drove him to his hotel on Kalakaua Ave and upon check in we saw a rack of surfboards nearby where I asked if they were rentals. The staff advised the boards belong to the in-house guests who were keeping them as storage while not in use. When asked about rentals, the front desk staff advised us to inquire with Moku Hawaii (MH) as their rates are 1/2 to what the businesses are asking for across the street on the beach. MH has been in business since 1985 where they hail from Japan. They started off as a clothing company but transitioned over to a surf shop offering surf lesson and rental business. We walked over and soon found MH, which is on the 1F at the corner of Koa Ave and Uluniu Ave. We were greeted by a friendly, young female staff who welcomed us and answered our multiple questions. With its locality, reasonable rates and customer service, my friend liked MH and decided to look no further. While checking out their inventory, my friend noticed hard boards and was hoping for soft boards. The staff guided us to those soft boards where it's available in either long or short. You will need to complete their rental form which to our surprise is quite flexible. For example, you can initially request for a 2 hr package but in the event you go overcast, you just pay the difference of $5, which is the price difference between 2 hr course and the next course of up to 4 hrs. MH gives back to the community as they sponsor multiple local keiki surf contests. That's so awesome. So, if you should be in a bind where someone asks you for a surf school in Waikiki, look no further and guide them to MH. We were surprisingly impressed with their surf shop and their amazing customer service. They open from 6am and close at 8pm
