Located on the second floor of Ala Moana, shopping center. Local motion has been one of the local store on the island for many years. They have lot of T-shirts, surf shorts and they also carry other name brands too. T-shirt usually cost about $23 or so, pretty good price. I brought a very traditional T-shirt with their logo on it. I purchased a t-shirt online back in late July 2024 and received a small instead of a large. For over a month, I have been trying to call to get an exchange, but no one ever answers the phone and no one responds to my voice messages for a return call. I have also tried sending emails, but after someone answered my initial email, they never followed up on my subsequent emails to ask for instructions on how to exchange the t-shirt. read more

Stepped into this store again to find a Mother's Day gift @ 1:20pm, EMPTY with 4-5 employees all standing in the front. I needed help with finding a certain print for a bag that was hanging on their walls. Not ONE employee greeted me or the rest of my Ohana or asked if I needed something. Just talk stories. I came in expecting colder atmosphere and employees like the other retail stores I walked into all day. The front did feel that way at first but the ladies towards the back were a little friendlier than I expected and helpful when I was rushing around getting my last minute stuff to bring home. I wish I got the one lady's name that helped me during the b1/g1 sale (if you were there in the back March 27, hi! lol) and the guys at the check out were nice while I was cramming all my stuff into my bags too. I was at the store to look for swimsuits; however, I was told that I am NOT allowed to try on any bikini bottoms. Shortly after I finished trying on some bikini tops, the same store staff opened a fitting room for a white male who wanted to try on some swim trunks. Can someone explain to me why women are not allowed to try on bikini bottoms, while males are allowed to try on swim trunks? I hope someone can share a good explanation on this. read more

Local Motion is located on the third level of the Ewa Wing at Ala Moana Center. I stepped foot into the clothing store a couple of times already. The advertisement of buy one get second one 50% off captured my attention. Each time I stepped foot into the store the employees would greet me right away. During my first visit I walked around the store until I reached the men's section and I found a rack with sweaters. Some of the sweaters were hoodies while other sweaters had the zipper in front. I ended up grabbing two sweaters with the zipper in front. I paid for my items using my credit card. On my most recent visit to Local Motion was on Mother's Day 2019. My mom and I walked into the store and started to browse around. My mom mentioned to me that she wanted tank tops. We looked at the women's tank tops and we found couple of them. I grabbed two XL tank tops for my mom. We then went to the men's section and I found two tank tops that I liked. Two of the items were regular priced while the other two items were 50% off. I paid for the four tank tops and gave Mom her items while I kept the other two. Mom was happy with her Mother's Day gift. read more

Pretty cool shop. Typically Surf / Skate clothing offered. A little bit more of trendier end of clothing as a opposed to places. They have some great brand and they also produce their own clothing and accessories. I just got this cool 20 L dry bag backpack for $28. I've been to marine store and saw basically the same for as much $60 in the past, without any backpack straps. They had lots of different sizes and very useful in Hawaii where there's a lot of exposure to the elements. I usually browse the shirts and board shorts here Own a shirt or two. They make their own Aloha shirts too. It's nice to have lots of local shops doing their own thing in the area. I need to stop in more often they have some cool products. read more

Customer service was not great. The employee folding the t-shirts was just snippy and had attitude. It saddens us that we felt we were judged. As if we don't have money to afford anything in the store. lmao it's funny how people are judge mental of how we dress walking into a place. Having to be on vacation and walking around the whole morning in humid hot Hawaii weather we decided to dress comfortably. So we are both raised on a different island so we can easily pass as locals of Hawaii. the cashier and other staff were not very friendly and was just ignorant. Regardless of the poor customer service I still purchased items from the store. I wasn't going to stop that from my main reason of walking into the store. It's sad because regardless of how we dress or the color of our skin all customers should be treated with respect and kindness. We are the reason why they still have jobs. Soft opening for the new Local Motion in Ala Moana, and I must say, I'm really impressed. Located in the old Diesel spot that was next to their old location, Local Motion has always been one of my favorite places to shop, and they really stepped up their shopping experience. A lot of their clothes are efficiently and tastefully displayed making sure you know the product youre buying. They have a pretty sick mural in their board room, which they expanded. And, I've been told that the mural will change every so often which is pretty awesome. Their merchandise is always on point, and they have a good selection of both surf and lifestyle. Definitely a must shop for surf gear. read more

Wow... it had been years since I've seen a Local Motion t-shirt before I walked into this store. I used to buy all my LM gear from Island Legends in Gardena, CA years ago, but then they started to carry less LM stuff then eventually they closed. So when I took a visit out to Oahu, LM was definitely on my list of places I needed to pay a visit. First, I went hunting for their store.. but they weren't where they used to be. So I called around and found out that they had moved to a spot inside the Ala Moana Center. I drove down and was expecting a dinky little store, but to my surprise they have grown HUGE. I was greeted with a pretty big store front and a huge wall of t-shirts all of which were LM. The guys who work here were nice and super helpful. And if you read my review of the Butigroove store, I gave these guys the same indecisive "lost boy" experience I gave the Butigroove girls. I took me forever and a day to decide on t-shirt style, let alone the colors. Anywho, I ended up buying several shirts and walked out a happy camper, but I definitely need to pay these guys another visit. I'm just sad that you can't find LM gear on the mainland anymore. But in retrospect I guess it's kind of better for business to keep a brand like LM exclusively sold on the island. I'll definitely be back to this place -- hopefully some time soon! The absolute epitome of my shopping spree whenever I come to Oahu is Local Motion. To me, they have the best designs available out of all the local surf shop brands. I always always always end up spending a couple of bills here when my intent is to only buy one shirt and one sticker. Never fails due to my low will power to spend the mighty dollar. (not so mighty these days) I really loved their Kapiolani location. It was made just for this store. Over the years, they customized it to make it really feel like a thrill to just walk into this place. The torches and surfboards in front are not gaudy or touristy. A real local touch. It's too bad the parking and streets surrounding it were awkward and one-way. I think the lack of access made them close up shop and move to Ala Moana finally. Shucks. Their t-shirt designs are always fresh and real. Simple designs without going over the top for the most part. Over the top to me are those Ed Hardy shirts. Who really wants to wear a shirt full of tattoos. Just go get a real one. The whole feel of the store is really comforting. Everybody has a lot of aloha and makes you feel welcome. Wow, amazing this place is still here with the employees they have. Went in on a Sunday, with only myself and a Japanese couple in the store with 5 female associates. No one there to greet me drive they were all standing by the counter, busy talking with each other. I walked around the front guys section fit a bit before heading towards the back. Walked right through the middle of their gathering and still no hello or even the slightest acknowledgement of my existence. I continued to browse for another 10 min or so, now being the sole customer. No one offered any help at all until a male worker came out the back to finally ask if I was doing okay. With so many great brands at their disposal, you figure it would be easy to dominate the surf retail world. But now I understand why the company almost died several years ago and are now desperately trying to make a come back. I guess that's what you get when you hire a bunch of kids to get by with cheap labor and then expect them to gave aby idea what customer service is. The first time I went into this location was the weekend after thanksgiving 2010. They had an Element bag I saw in the window that a buddy of mine had that I loved. My friend first got the bag from Town and Country Surf I think around jan/feb 2010 and Local Motion still had it for regular price! I called T&C to see if they still had the bag, all locations sold out in black but they did have a few in gray HALF PRICE at their pearlridge store. I went, bought it and saved $40. I've gone back to Local Motion numerous times (I'm at ala moana more often then I should be!) and last time I checked it was still regular price. The reason why I only gave 2 stars is because I walked around the store to see what else they got going on and I totally found a few other things regular price that we're on sale at other stores!! I bought a Roxy, one shoulder dress for my wedding rehearsal dinner, regular price at Macy's mid-october 2010. The dress went on sale shortly after and local motion still had it for regular price months after! There were other items, Nixon watches and brand mens tees that I saw elsewhere on sale. The store has a nice selection of merchandise but I would double check the prices at other places before purchasing, you might save some cash! read more

Walked by the store and saw a sign for their Grand Re-Opening at Ala Moana. Located on Ewa wing Level 3 they sell a selection of surf branded apparel, surfboards, and yes, even luggage! My entire closet revolves around this brand and its lifestyle. I love the clothing and the vibes. I love the brand so much and I'm here so often that I practically know the entire store layout by heart. However, the workers there are just "working." Very rarely do I come across someone that I can tell is good at their job. I think they're a little intimidated and shy to come up to most people, majority of them are all young, so it's okay, I understand, but They kinda just stand there and fold clothes and ask the famous line "you still doing okay?" 20,000,000 stores say that, it's very annoying. Like I said, I don't really need help because I can shop by myself, (however if a cute guy was to come up to me and make recommendations, I'd probably buy anything he showed me) but at the least they need to give a smile, or a Shaka--something! They have to set the store vibe, it was almost as if I had to smile to them and do their job! I go in there all the time and I was wearing a $200 Nixon watch, volcom shorts, a quiksilver shirt and volcom slippers... come on.. how could you not tell I love this brand? I work in retail so I know how it is to have rude customers, but when the nice ones come in, you should definitely be jumping all over them! Get excited! Put a smile on. I love this brand, and as employees you should love it just as much as I do.
