I stumbled upon Surf Garage when I was looking for new fins for my board. I haven't surfed in years after I had kids- so I'm just getting back in to surfing. I wanted some advice about possibly getting a new board that would better suit me now, and the guy took so much time to chat with me and give me his valuable insight. I didn't feel rushed or like I inconvenienced him at all. It was really nice to just throw ideas back and forth and listen to his suggestions. I learned that this is a family business and has been here for many years. The father and mother started the shop and the son works there too. I love to support places like this! The people who work here are amazing! The older Japanese man (owner?) has helped me with my surf shopping countless times. He guided me to the perfect fin for my new board, and even screwed it in for me when I was struggling in the parking lot. I couldn't ask for better customer service. They had a smaller selection, but happened to be better quality boards. And the same price ! I ended up buying a bunch of accessories. I really needed help to put on the fins and leash. They set me up with a beginner board that cost under 250. They have great prices, a great staff on **board**, and a great selection. You can get anything from a 200 dollar board to a 5000 dollar board. They've got what seems like an endless supply of boards. Check this place out before you make any purchases elsewhere - they probably offer the exact same thing at a lower price. read more

Huge selection for surf goods and apparel. I can't think of one brand they don't carry. They also produce their own apparel, which is good quality and design. Huge selection of new and used boards. I LOVE SURF GARAGE!!! These guys are great! When I first got into stand up paddle boarding, I rented paddle boards from the Surf Garage a couple of times and the staff here is so kind and helpful! They got me set up with a board and paddle that was perfect for my size and ability level. They gave me a few quick tips on how to stay afloat and helped me load the boards into my car. Even though I don't rent boards anymore, (finally splurged & got one of my own!) I still like to just stop in here when I'm in the area to take a look around and check out their new boards and accessories. They always have unique boards and the great gear. I like talking story with the guys who run the shop because they always have cool stories and are really knowledgeable. I highly recommend the Surf Garage for rentals! Especially if you want to get into SUP but you don't wanna trade your entire savings account and your first born child for a new board. Rentals are about $40 for 24 hours. (Much cheaper than other SUP rentals I've seen!) read more

Amazing lines with a wide array of the most talented shapers. l love the varied sizes, rails as well as fins. If you have a medium budget and are looking for a keeper in the collection. Even if you are just looking for a surf shop that has dozens and dozens of choices. This place will have you covered with something you will enjoy. They also have surf culture items, medium to high priced toys and rare finds for wave sliding. I will say I've bought a few times from the used section. The shop people are all talented surfers that I've seen in the lineup. So they know what they are talking about. Lot's of Aloha at this chill neighborhood surf shop! Didn't realize that Surf Garage also does rentals until I had brought my brand new board in for repair. The repairs aren't done on site but the work done was first class. Toru, gave me a really fair deal on both the repair and the rental of a 6'2" Firewire Dominator for the duration that my board was being taken care of. The staff here is really down to earth and helpful, plus they have a nice selection of stuff that you don't see in every other shop. Decided I would put a board here on consignment and it sold without hassle after about two weeks. I'm sure I could have got a few dollars more if I sat on it on Craigslist for a couple of weeks, but this was really painless. On my way to Surf Garage to pick up my money, will probably leave some of it there! read more

Love this place! I would recommend it for locals as well as out of towners. The staff is very helpful and kind. While I was in there I heard a man complain about how he didn't know where to start when it came to surfing. The man helping him told him about a great surfing instructor and explained his hours/what to expect. I'm also a shopper that likes to take her time when looking around a shop. I was asked once if I was okay and when I said I was I wasn't bothered again which I love. I didn't feel pressured to hurry up and make a purchase. The attire was great and all the outdoor gear was amazing. The only thing I would comment on is having more options regarding clothing and sizes. I had trouble finding my size in shirts and I wasn't able to tell which ones were guys and which one were girls/kids. Aside from that, amazing! read more

I live on Maui, and was cruising the web when I found the Surf Garage website. They have an excellent website that shows all of their in stock surfboards, with pictures,descriptions,and prices. I only know of two surf shops that take the time to do this. Anyway, I found a board on their website I liked, and stopped by their shop while I was visiting family on Oahu. Met the owner who is a super friendly no pressure guy. I purchased a 9-6 hand shaped Randy Rarick Bear longboard, and had them ship via air cargo to Maui. The board arrived in perfect condition, due to their excellent packaging. Put it this way, I have enough bubble wrap to last me the next 10 Christmas Holidays. They have a nice quiver of balsa boards that I have never seen in any other surf shop. I will definitely be back! read more

Owner is dishonest. I took 2 of our boards to Surf Garage about 3-4 months ago to sell on consignment. My friend tried to dissuade me from doing so saying that when he did the same before, the owner lied about selling it (so that he didn't have to pay him and hoping he would forget). Three days ago, I went back to check on the boards. I brought the receipt with me and gave it to the owner. He stated that one of the boards, a 6'2" Tokoro, just sold 2 days ago (imagine that). So he started writing me a check. I asked him about the 5'2" quad (2nd board, kid's board which are hard to find in that size, so I knew it was going to sell fast) and if it sold. He stated that it did not sell. I then asked him if he got any new boards. He said yes. So I told him I wanted to check them out. Sure enough, when I went back there, the 5'2" was nowhere to be found. I looked 3 times to make sure before I confronted the owner. I then went up to the front and told him the 5'2" was not there. He mumbled something, scrounged around some of the paperwork as if he was looking for something, didn't say a word, then proceeded to write me the balance for what it sold. Part of me wanted to call him out and embarrass him, but just the fact that I caught him in a lie and made sure he knew I knew, was quite enough. Needless to say, I won't ever go back there and patronize this shop. You don't treat fellow surfers and patrons who are supporting your business like that. Yet another business I didn't realize was in the neighborhood until a friend won a gift certificate at a fundraiser. Super friendly helpful staff, lots of surfboards to browse (although I don't know much about buying one), lots of technical surfboard equipment (they have a wall of fins) and some pretty cute t-shirts and bathing suits. I don't really have a need for technical surf equipment, but the fact that they are a small business supporting their local animal shelter is awesome. They donated the gift certificate to Hawaiian Humane Society so they could raise money for the animals, and that's pretty awesome. I would recommend people check them out. read more

GREAT surf shop. As others have mentioned, the shop has a good vibe and the staff is very helpful. Daniel (?) has helped me on a couple occasions, helping me with a moped surf rack and a vest for colder mornings. They may not be the biggest shop, but they have everything you could want for fun in the waves. Everything is neat and well-placed. No pushy salespeople, always help offered if you're just browsing, easily approachable staff. Parking is a little tricky (park on the street or around back), but worth the trip over there. read more

I dropped my board to repair a couple weeks ago and the owner I guess had told me a final price for the service, today when I stop by to pick up my board he add extra 10 $ for know reason before grab my credit card was 80 then 90$ after slide my credit card 90 plus taxes. The good is that I asked 4 or 5 times about the price and it was always 80$, surf garage you own me 10$. And I will never stop at this place again. If you have no choice ask him to write in a paper the price and sign it down. Be serious. read more
