I placed a store pickup order and was disappointed by the customer service. The employee never asked for my name or order number. Instead, he directed me to a wall of pickup orders and had me locate my own package. After I brought it to the counter, he simply removed the tag and completed the transaction. I've used store pickup at this location before, and staff retrieved the order for me. This experience felt indifferent and unprofessional, with no effort made to assist the customer or verify the order before sending me to find it myself. It gave the impression that customer service was an inconvenience rather than a priority. I was in the store 6/34/2026. The outside of the store looked like a homeless encampment with trash everywhere even right up to the door. I'm not sure how many employees worked there but I only saw three. There were several costumers in line with one cashier. The store was a mess with inventory on the floor and all over the place. I was in there for about a half an hour and not once ask if I needed any help. Clearly there's a problem, either they don't pay enough or it is a horrible working environment. Is what it is, this is the biggest mariner and boater store we have on this side. While it's a big chain store, that offers benefits that smaller ones can't offer like shipping in parts from the mainland. I've been using the West Marine website to order online and pick up to save time when I get there. Staff is always friendly when I get there, saying "hi, can I help you with anything?" They have a really good selection of general marine parts and some specialty stuff you can order. Many people don't know they have ocean apparel and stand up paddle boarding stuff. Reminds me of Sports Authority of the old days, but for boats. Plenty of parking, just have to drive in a circle, one way in and one way out, from Nimitz/Ala Moana Blvd. read more

Just like I said in July 13, 2025, West Marine is following the path of Sharper Image and Sears. Same path to bankruptcy like Radio Shack, good products and bad customer service. I wrote postive reviews for individual employees in the past which was well deserved and I feel sorry for them if West Marine folds. After the old hag refused to sell me the boat, I bought a 14 foot aluminum Jon boat for $200, a yamaha motor 6hp for $800, and all the whistles, batteries, life preservers, bilge pumps, flares, seat cushions, rope, fuel tanks, Gps, oars, and whatever else I needed from West Marine competitors. I would have bought everything that night at West Marine which amounted to another $1200 after purchasing the boat. Today I get a email from West Marine saying it is filing for CHAPTER 11 BANKRUPTCY. Hmmm, I don't wonder why. I know why. The problem starts with the store manager, training and monitoring sales and customer service. The solution is relocate or get rid of the manager and the store employees that do not take their job seriously and provide customer service. Simple economics, sell the boat and accessories, and $2000 ends up in the register, employees get paid, and the company makes a profit and stays in business. Hire lame old idiots that rather talk story and bad mouth the company that employs them equals $0 in sales, store closures, and unemployment. Stores that file bankruptcy always closes in the end. ALWAYS have a problem with invoices and receipts when trying to reconcile for company purchases. They don't provide copies of receipts when asked. No one is able to help in person or on the phone because it's a corporate problem. Highly do not recommend purchasing for business purposes. Every month we have problems with our accounting dept not getting the right paperwork for purchases made and now we are told to never purchase from West Marine. read more

Matt Uza customer service is very terrible. Asked him for some help and he brushes us off cause he's yelling and looking for a guy who needed rope. Ask him again after he helped the other person, gave him the part number, he came back and said there isn't any in stock. Just so happened there was 4 tuck in a different location on the shelf. Don't recommend asking him for any help. Also a visit before this, old lady in the parts department was so judgmental and did not want to help because she said we needed an account. Honestly, 90% I just buy the stuff I need from West Marine online & just pickup in the store. For the other 10% when I'm just browsing the store--most of the employees are great, but some just emanate that they don't want to be there at all. I recently bought a thru-hull fitting. While checking out, the cashier asked me if I had a serial number & I said no (not knowing there was no barcode tag on the fitting). She said "I can't do anything if you don't have the code." Like come on girl, you literally have a categorized computer system in front of you. I had to get out of line to walk to the plumbing section & take a picture of the code. If it were me, I'd at least have the drive or urgency to help the customer. Other than that one experience, West Marine is pretty ok in general. Prices are higher, but sometimes you have to pay the "immediate" premium to get the project done. I kinda just consider West Marine to be the place where you have to go to get boating-related stuff immediately on island; otherwise, you need to wait for the mail. Tips: If you order from West Marine online using the Ship to Store way, you will wait over 2-3 weeks. They'll lump it with the store stock replenishment via barge. Located off Nimitz Hwy is West Marine which is like going into a large home improvement center except they carry so many different items which involve items you would need for fishings, Boats, camping, cleaning supplies, footwear, clothes, coolers, thermos and parts to repairs. They have so many types and brands of fishing supplies and stock person was very helpful and friendly letting us know which brands are good! As you enter they have hand sanitizer everyone wore face mask and the cashier was very friendly and and took the time to ask if we had customers reward program with them and if not if we would like to join for free. Googled where I could buy a battery jumper pack. This place came up so my husband and I called. The person who answered wasn't helpful...all he said was they were out. Asked him a few more questions since he didn't elaborate if it's on order, will it be coming in soon, etc. It didn't seem like he was interested in making a sale plus, we weren't in a rush to pick one up, we could've waited until it came in. They're customer service is terrible! Guess they don't need our business! I'm pretty sure they know that the purchases may be small but a returning customer and word-by-mouth is very valuable to any business. This store is more than meets the eye. I thought it was just about boat parts but it has apparel, paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing and some essential every day carry or camping equipment. I don't have a boat nor do I fish but I needed a waterproof container for my keys for when I go boogieboarding. Since it's during the pandemic, West Marine has a good plan in place for conducting business. They will manually open their doors to inquire what you're looking for and will direct you to the aisle as soon as you answer. The sales people are friendly and super helpful. I wish I had more time to browse around because of their apparel as well as osprey bags. I did take the time to look at their stand-up paddle boards, which the pricing was reasonable to alittle steep but I'm guessing it's because of the material used to build the board. I did find a water proof container and also walked away with a cute hatchet that caught my eye. Why do I need a hatchet? I don't know but I'm pretty sure it will come in handy. I often go to this store to look at fishing tackle. Fishing rods, lures, reels, and other various fishing tackle are available at this store, which is a must for fishing enthusiasts. The only reason I'm not giving a total negative review is for the fact that they have a good selection of items and well stocked. From fishing supplies to boating equipment, even clothing and sunscreen, they're well stocked and also have very good hours of operation. However, BEFORE you go into the store, I would recommend doing research and getting all your answers elsewhere. Customer service is non- existent, rude, and they could literally give a rats ass about helping customers. I've literally asked for help and waited for almost 20 minutes only to get ignored the entire time. Their prices are at retail, so can't complain. But there was a reel I wanted/needed and was willing to pay full retail they was recently lined with braid that I wasn't going to use. I asked if they could remove it and was told no. $45 on top of retail with 400yds of line that I had no use for was pretty dumb. The worst is trying to pay for things at the register. Instead of giving you quality customer service on the floor, they make conversations with you at the register. Not only "how was everything?", but they talk about your items, how the fishing is, swells, ask about saving money with their gold membership and their benefits. What should take less than 2 minutes to ring up items, take your phone number, and payment, ends up taking over 10 minutes. Now imagine if there are 3-4 people in line... well guess what? They don't care!!! So although they have a good selection of items, they are my absolute last resort, especially when I'm in a rush. read more

purchased a chart plotter/fish finder from west marine on May 22 or 23rd and was told by the gentleman who sold me the item he would call after holiday sale to help order correct transponder, a week later after several attempts for assistance I returned product since it would not work due to wrong transponder included. June 16th now and still no refund on returned product. called this morning and was told that it will eventually it will be refunded but no time frame. wonder if west marine will wait 3 weeks plus for payment if I purchase a item again from them, this is all because of lack of customer service if they would of told me and ordered the transponder need I would of keep the item after ordering the correct part needed but customer service is not part of west marine corporate policies since the main number for west marine is no longer in service and can not talk to anyone pass clerk answering telephone at the Honolulu store who has no authorization to even check on disputes or refunds. Such a fun store if you are into boating. It is a big store with just about anything you will need for your boat. If you are just looking to buy nautical appeal, they have 25% of the store devoted to that. Friendly customer service by people that knows the boating industry. Many of them were older people with boats, and some of them live on their boat. So if you have questions, they have got the answers. We are learning how to sail, and I need a hat. They have a good selection of high quality hats. But they lack full length mirrors. The fitting room is locked and you need to search for an employee for a key to go to the fitting room. I would put at least one full length mirror at the clothing section. They have 2 loyalty programs, one is free and the other cost a fee. If you need to buy lots of things from this store, it might be worth it. Many employees with here because they can get large employee discounts. We got the free loyalty program. read more

What a great experience it is to shop at West Marine Honolulu. WOW! You don't get service this thorough and conscientious too often anymore. Jordan Sandoval and Randy Reeves come to mind but ALL the staff are excellent. I was helping a friend with his marine diesel and Randy went waaaaaay out of his way over the phone to analyze photos I texted in order to find a part. Jordan offered more customer service than I could possibly anticipate when ordering an item from the store over the phone. It's near impossible apparently to find good retail employees. I never thought to ever step inside of West Marine as I don't have any interest in boating or fishing and the like, but after some research of a specific product I needed, this was the place I needed to go. I pass by West Marine located along Nimitz Highway many, many times. It is right in the middle of the highway, to your left side heading westbound and right across from the new Ross/Longs/PetSmart stores. You won't see the storefront heading that way. You will make the left turn right after you see Longs and Ross, and you'll see the storefront and driveway into the parking lot immediately. Heading eastbound, you'll see it after you pass by Zippy's. Since this is a specialty store, there will be ample parking. The inside is very clean and bright, and feels like everything is stocked and nearly has everything you need. The staff here are all friendly with the exception of a couple of employees who just stare at you with a blank faces. The ones that helped were very helpful, informative, and made an effort to listen to my questions and comments and provide me with the best solution. An overall nice experience. I don't need to come back to West Marine any time soon. I might need to buy a boat. read more

I just wanted to say Thank You to Tracy. Called the store before 8am not knowing the store opens at 8am. So answering before open hrs and helping me was so grateful and made my day. Was looking for some items thats listed on the website instock. Usually when I'm there and ask can you check the back, check stock, etc no one really does and says check back when shipment comes in on Tuesdays. But anyways Tracy check the item number I gave her and asked for my info. Went to check cause it said 2 in stock and will get back to me if anything. Well wasn't in stock ask about a different one that had a 4 pk and checked sure enough it was in stock in the back. That's the same one I inquired the previous day and was told check back next week tuesday. Now they just need to work on Inventory system and front end cashier help. Waited for someone to help me at the trolling station. Stood for about 5 minutes waiting for two of the workers in there to help me but neither of them said a word. They were complaining to another worker about a new system that was being implemented so I figured I'd go walk around for a bit let them settle things. Came back to the and after standing around for another 5 minutes one of the workers looks at me but didn't say anything I stood there for another 5 minutes and finally he walked over and I asked to see a few lure heads. Located on Nimitz after Liliha Bakery on your left (headed towards town) is West Marine. A great place to get fishing gear, apparel and other cool fishing accessories. My boyfriend and I have been here several times prior to and during COVID-19 for fishing gear. While we usually get great service, this most recent visit left a lot to be desired, primarily with their customer service at time of checkout. After scoping out the gear we needed, I headed to the register to find an older middle aged woman and a younger lady chatting while looking at a blouse that they had hanging up on a rack near the registers. I stood there waiting for about 3-minutes or so puzzled as to where their line started as there was no clear signage communicating their checkout process or procedures. Another couple then approaches and they too are asking me where the line starts and how long I've been waiting. All of us start watching the 2 ladies chat for about 2-minutes when the older middle aged lady yells, "The line starts here!" Considering that we're the ones waiting on them I found it rude that instead of apologizing she's barking orders because we weren't waiting in the proper area. The couple indicates to me to go ahead towards the registers when the middle aged lady yells at me to get in line. So instead, I tell the couple to go ahead, no big deal, I can wait even longer. They're apologetic and thank me. Turns out middle aged lady yells at them too about not reading price signage and then tells them to just come back later for something, who knows what (mind you middle aged lady isn't even the one helping them on the register, it's the younger lady). The couple gives stink eye to middle aged lady and then leaves. I finally get to pay for our things and receive no, "Thanks for waiting" bit. Just told my total. Totally fine, no biggie. I wasn't expecting much after how I've seen both women behave. This place is bigger than I expected. Great selection of products overall. It seems they have everything for water/outdoor activities. We needed a small lifevest for our baby. We partnered with an employee and asked him what was the difference between two models. He was clearly clueless and did not know, so he told us "they are two different prices". Yeah, no kidding, buddy! He then proceeded to take us to his work computer and looked on their website. We are not sure why, but he again pointed out the two different models and price differences. That was it. No other input. He was useless. He should partner with someone else if he does not know. You should train your employees with better product knowledge. I thought maybe I am over reacting as my husband tried to enter your store today but saw another review about the same thing. Yes, I understand all of the new rules regarding COVID-19, and realize this is real. My husband wanted to look for something in the store and I wanted another pair of olukai's, because when I go into work, it's super casual so I have been wearing slippers. Read all of the signs before approaching the door. This rude lady comes out and says, "what are you shopping for". My husband was a little taken aback and said he's looking for a fishing shirt. She said, "you need to know what you want. No trying on". Okay, understandable. She then said that no tandem shopping. So she lets him in. I'm waiting outside in line because I wanted to shop for my own thing. Someone comes in the back of me and she stops him and rudely asks the same.. then let's him in. I'm like, wth! Then she told me, "I told you, no tandem shopping". Then a dad and a daughter is in line. She's maybe 8 or 10. Asks if she can fit in a shopping cart. He's like, uhhhh... no. The rude employee told the dad that she doesn't want her to touch everything. He said no... and she lets them in anyways... I thought no tandem shopping?! What the heck! Same lady picks up the phone and says YES they have 27 in stock! So I make my way down there. Got greeted by Raffe again. Obviously he doesn't remember crap from the last time. Goes to the back and then comes back to tell me that their sold out!? WOW! I guess everyone out here is buying $500 fish finders every min! At this point they've lost my business. They're overpriced on most of their products anyway. I'd rather order my products online than to support these guys. They're nothing but liars and don't give a crap about you or your business. They still have the upper hand, because they're people out here who live on fisheries and need products the same day. But they're people out here who could wait. As my daughter and I walk in with our tea (no sign on at the entrance that says "no food or drinks allowed" in our hands, the male cashier, Kevin looks at us and points out the door and mumbled something. My daughter then looks out the door, not knowing what he was talking about, so she asked "we can't have our drinks in her?" The cashier then rolled his eyes. I looked at my daughter and asked her what he said. And then looked at him and said "are drinks not allowed in here?" He replied "well are you looking at clothes?" So, my daughter and I took ours and my husbands drink to the car. My husband asked "why what happened?" I said "drinks are not allowed I guess." The he replied with a smart remark and said "well we're not a restaurant" and rolled his eyes again! Now I'm needing to utilize the latrine. Worst customer service, left store within 2 minutes. Two old ladies at front did not greet me upon entering, instead they looked me up and down. REPREHENSIBLE STAFF. Go to Go Bananas Watersports instead!! I don't have a car, by choice, and wanted to stop by this store to check out what they have available as far as kayaks, paddles, and water scooters go because I've been looking to make a purchase in the near future, and due to the lithium ion batteries in water scooters, it's extremely difficult to find a way to get them shipped here in Hawaii. I'm also in need of paddles for a boat I already have. First, I made a stop at the nearby Best Buy to pick up a camera and some equipment I needed, which I did as I originally planned, and had my purchases in a bag I was carrying. I'm dressed casually, conservatively, properly, and I look and am clean. I walk into the store, was greeted by an associate near the door and one behind a cash register. As I was browsing the paddles and kayaks -- NEITHER OF WHICH COULD EVEN FIT IN A BAG, MIND YOU -- I was approached by three different associates asking if I needed help. I was on my way to aisle 9 which is where the water scooters might have been if they had them, as one of the associates told me after I asked, and got approached by three more different associates, if I needed help. When I finally got to aisle 9, one of the associates who had already greeted me, came up to me and asked me to leave my bag in my vehicle, to which I told him I don't have a car and walked here from Best Buy after just having bought my camera and equipment. I understand the theft situation here in Honolulu, I really do as I've witnessed it many times, so I asked if I could just leave my bag at the cash register while I looked. They said they don't have any safe place or associate available to watch my belongings and don't want to be responsible for it, despite me clearly seeing cash registers that had associates at them, and was stopped by probably 8 different people during my brief browse. So he asked me to leave and come back another time without the bag. He said he didn't want to offend me, but, literally, how would you feel?? Literally, what the F? I totally understand that bags aren't allowed in some shops for valid reasons, but not one of you can even watch my bag or stuff it behind the register? Literally being asked to leave because I'm carrying a bag, offering no solution other than that? Other stores with a no-bag rule have lockers, bag check, or let you leave your bag with them. You know, OPTIONS and SOLUTIONS. Not just telling you to leave. I'm honestly shocked by this experience and unfortunately will have to look elsewhere for my future purchase of a water scooter that's already so difficult to get. I can't and won't come back to the store after that ridiculous embarrassment over nothing. At the next stop on my shopping walk, I voluntarily left my bag behind the store's cashier desk, which was absolutely no problem for the staff there, as is usually the case in a situation like that. I was scarred by this situation, not even wanting to carry my bag in the other store after what had just happened to me at West Marine. After reading a lot of the other reviews here, I see this horrible treatment was not only given to me. May your staff and store get what you deserve. read more

They wouldn't help me get replacement parts and basically told me to bring the whole thing all the way back to the store because they couldn't be sure it wasn't the customer's fault.
