I paddled dragon boat for a number of years (2000-2007), but would occasionally go out with friends in an outrigger since then. Outrigger versus Dragon Boat - same genus different species - are both water-borne sports. Island Paddler is a store for the serious and devoted outrigger paddler/afficionado replete with all the wet gear, accessories, clothing, and blades/paddles of all shapes, sizes, and needs. I first visited Island Paddler at the height of my paddling career back in 2001/2002 and fell in love with the store. I have since returned for a visit and Island Paddler is just as awesome as it was years ago with the friendly staff and eye opening inventory - there's just nothing like it stateside at all. I haven't paddled regularly since retiring in 2007, but walking into Island Paddler certainly cured any homesickness I may have had about paddling out towards the horizon in the big blue. I promise to make Island Paddler a regular visit every time I'm in Oahu.

Thanks Ron. I will try to put this to good use!

Ron was an amazing help. Brand new to the sport he guided me through paddle selection and gave me in store lessons and pointers. You can tell Ron loves what he does. That is so refreshing and welcoming. My father always says you buy from people. It is true. I walked out of another shop nearby because the clerk knew NOTHING about canoe paddling or how to size me. I had to show the clerk the size chart on the wall. Why even carry an item your clerks cannot sell? Thanks Ron! You rock.

Just purchased paddle $400 never even use, did not even remove from bag. No returns, no exceptions. Not worth it.

I was able to try on the pair, walk around in them, and learn more about their group from him. I really put it to the test today. My new shoes took me over 8,000 steps! This high cut protected my ankles and the wide front made it very comfortable with hiking socks. I really appreciated the sturdy sole because my shoes had fantastic grip on the slopes. At the end of the hike, I was totally safe. No slipping or sliding :) The best part about my purchase, this group plants a tree for every shoe sold! Thanks everyone, I'm loving my new kicks!

The best place for hiking shoes and climbing gear if you want to avoid the big brand stores at the mall. The gear is priced right and their exchange policy is very reasonable for a small business. You have 30 days and you can get something else. They cannot survive as a business if they allowed refunds because tourists would buy gear, go hike or climb with it during their visit, and returned it afterwards. That would be a rental business! That's not what this store is. Same neighborhood as Hi Climb gym too! So convenient. SHOP SMALL! And we have a store here in Hawaii too--located along Ward Ave between Waimanu and Kawaiahao Street with plenty of unshaded parking. The inside is very open, clean, cool, and comfortable. Everything was quite organized and each section was spacious. The first time I came here I couldn't really understand how most of the clothes aren't even for Hawaii weather..... or Hawaii pockets.... unless you travel to many places to do winter sports and activities. Funny enough, I received a gift card for Pantagonia shortly after my first visit. Now that I need to actually buy something. I focused on the casual, running/training, ocean activity areas. Needless to say, everything was quite expensive in my opinion. The quality is there and the clothes do feel similar to other brands. Is it worth THAT much though? My co-worker says this place is like the Lululemon for outdoors. Sounds about right. Overall, this store was really nice, cool, and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. Everything really organized. It's quite niche. I guess if I need some ice climbing gear, I'll know where to go. Eventually I got a pair of shorts. Regular price is $135. Thankful for the gift card cause I'm not on THAT level...yet.

At the time of purchase the salesperson said TNF has a lifetime warranty on their product and I appreciated the heads up. I take good care of my jackets and today I wore it for protection from the heavy rain. When I got home I noticed the inside lining of the hood was peeling. Other than that the jacket was in mint condition. Non fading, no tears, all zippers were in good working order. Fortunately, I still had the receipt so I went to the TNF store at Ala Moana Shopping Center to see what can be done. Salesperson 969009 assisted me with my issue with the jacket and after answering a few questions he then inspected the jacket and agreed it was well taken care of and in good condition. I filled out a form and to my surprise I received a full refund in a gift card. Not prorated but a full refund! I immediately looked around the floor and found another light jacket to my liking and purchased it from the store. Just want to say the salesperson (unfortunately I didn't get his name) was very helpful, professional and very knowledgeable. If I still worked as a store manager for Nordstrom I would have recruited him immediately.

The staff is always welcoming and checking in on everyone to see if you have questions or needs. A few years before COVID, I purchased a combo weather jacket that was on sale and had a water resistant shell with a fleece inner jacket. Years passed and on one of my trips after COVID I noticed I was shedding these white particles whenever I took my jacket off. Come to find out, the water resistant lining on the inside of the shell was coming off. Feeling I got a bum jacket, and assuming that's why the jacket was on sale, I started thinking of what I could get to replace this one. Fast forward to 2024, I was wondering inside the store, 'just looking' and an employee kindly asked if I needed help. She reminded me of my jacket that the liner was coming off so I asked her about that and if they could reapply the liner. She said, "Sure, we can take a look at that." She was leading to that all their jackets have a lifetime warranty so if anything goes wrong, bring the jacket to them and they will send to service for free! If they cannot repair the jacket, they will give you a gift card in the price of the jacket for you to purchase a current model or something else to your liking. Before this day, I had no clue of the lifetime warranty lol. Ended up buying a Gortex shell in the meantime while I sent my old jacket for service. Had to send both the shell and inner jacket for service and in about 3 weeks later I got an email from their service dept stating they couldn't repair the lining and will be issuing me a gift card in the price of what I paid. With that gc, I picked up a new inner fleece and a puffer vest. For that Autumn 2024 trip, I was wearing warm, updated gear and couldn't have felt more reassured that I spent those hundreds of dollars in the right spot. Today, Black Friday of 2025, I had $20 from my Xplorer Membership and the store was offering 30% off for their Black Friday sale. I was in the store on Tuesday, and was eyeing a beanie and new gloves I needed for my next trip. Came in today and got to stack my $20 and get the 30% off my purchases. On top of this, the employee wished me Happy Holidays... love this time of the year. Forever a happy North Face customer... till my next adventure, Grind On, Pau!

I was there October 31 and I saw that they had NFL logos on their bottles. I was trying to decide on color and when I flipped it over to check the price, one was $9 more than the other, so naturally that helped me decide to get the cheaper one. I was in a rush so I didn't inspect it fully or even realize that I paid the price for one that was $9 more until the next day when I noticed there was a small dent on the cap. I brought it back to the store to exchange for another without a dent and asked about the cost. The young girl behind the register, called for the manager because she didn't know what to do. The manager told me that it rang up at the correct price. I showed her the price tag and she responded with, "Someone has been changing the tags". Ok well I didn't know that and it's not my problem. I told her that I had just purchased the night before so how was I getting charged the newer price. She explained further that someone in their store--and employees keeps changing the tags. First of all if you know you have an employee doing this, WHY are they still employed by you? And second, it was on you, you should have just honored the price. If it was a few dollars, I would have just let it slide but $9-come on. And any other store would have corrected this properly. You guys didn't. For this reason I won't shop here anymore.
