I have a broken ankle and needed to replace the brake handle on the knee scooter. We went in to BIKEFACTORY to see if they could help- immediately they told us they only work on their own bikes. As soon as we entered the store, the cashier to our greeted us. This is nice. :) We asked the staff where to find the kneed pads and he directed us to go upstairs to the right. He told us that we could also try them on. This is great as we didn't know what size to buy. Later we learned his name is Matt. We came for one thing only but decided to walk around and see what else they have. They sell a a lot of cool's gadgets from fishing, bicycles, shoes, scuba gear, and almost all the sports equipment needed from football, soccer and just so much more. We couldn't stay too long as we needed to meet someone but we'll definitely come back. I know we could have bought the knee pad someplace else but it's always good to remember to support local businesses first. This place made 100 years last year! Amazing, right?! McCully Bike is my go-to location for bike repair, bike parts, and snorkel fins. After about 10 years of hard use, my trusty fin finally wore a hole and broke through. That same day I made the trek to McCully Bike. As soon as I entered, a staff member asked if I needed help. I said I didn't because I knew exactly where the fins were! But when I checked the shelf, it was a different brand; my trusty brand was gone! I asked the staff member, and he said they had to stop carrying the old brand because it had gotten too expensive. I was distraught! But then I got over it, tried on a couple pairs for size, and made the purchase. I assume the new ones will work ok. They look a lot different but are actually quite similar in design, made in Malaysia instead of Japan. There's a no-return policy on fins, but at only $21.98 for the pair, I'm not too worried. I think that's the same price I paid when I bought my first pair in 1990. If you've never been or haven't been in a while, I highly recommend McCully Bike. Through the years I've come to McCully Bicycle & Sporting Goods numberous times to buy my share of sports gear. In the past, I've purchased several bicycles from McCully Bike when I used to ride a bicycle to school in my freshman & sophomore years in college, as well as when I used to do those Century Ride bike rides in the summer. I bought basketballs/baseball/softball gear when I played organized team sports. Good ol' McCully Bike was also my source for tennis racquets, and I also use to bring my racquets here to have them strung up. When I needed athletic shoes, McCully Bicycle & Sporting Goods was my "goto place" I'd look for DEALAGES, as they used to carry an array of athletic shoes. I remembered a time when the first Nike Air Jordan's came out and I bought two pairs of those shoes at a discounted close out sale price and how I wished I still had those shoes now, as it would be worth a fortune!!! I have to admit, in recent years I haven't been coming to McCully Bicycle & Sporting Goods as often, probably due to the internet where I can purchase things online & have it delivered directly to my house, as well as age, as I no longer ride bicycles, get on a tennis court, or play organized sports. A few things have changed since I last came to McCully Bicycle & Sporting Goods, as I noticed they no longer carry tennis racquets or string racquets anymore, nor did I see that large sunglasses display that they used to have here. As for the bicycles, you don't have to worry about that as they still carry an array of bicycles here. Into fishing??? McCully Bike should be your source in getting fishing/diving gear! Why did I come here??? After reading an article from the Star Advertiser newspaper about this locally owned business, they talked about how this business got started back in Waipahu in 1923, and how the generations of decendants from the Takayesu ohana who pitched in to help run the business to keep the legacy of Giyei Takayesu alive, After reading that newspaper article, I was compelled to come back here to buy a McCully Bicycle & Sporting Goods 100th anniversary t-shirt. :D Mission accomplished! Been coming here for many many years. My daughter's bike tire blew out. We brought her bike here and a guy met us in the front, he took her bike and had it fixed in 15 minutes. Apparently her brakes her on backwards as well and they fixed that for us too. They were really on top of it. Their customer service was 10/10! Located on King St between McCully St and Isenberg, not quite to University, this place has been here forever. Since I was a kid. They used to have parking on top of the store but now it is behind the store in a lot that you have to approach from Young St. The street just past the store is one way coming toward you so you have to go up to Isenberg and then come back on Young St to get to the lot. They have all the sporting goods as well as bike gear. I go there to buy basketballs. The prices are reasonable and probably the best you can do in Hawaii. What is also useful is they have a lot of fishing equipment and diving gear. Worth taking a look if you need any of that kind of thing. They also have some protein and supplements. Excellent service both times I took my kid to shop for swimming-related items. The sales associates take their time to show the products and answer questions, and I've never felt rushed or obligated to buy anything that they show us. Both times I could have easily gone online to Amazon and probably could have found the items for cheaper, but then we wouldn't be able to try on the goggles and fins for the fit. Plus I prefer to support local businesses! It's quite a well-stocked store but it looks like their focus is mostly on bicycles and fishing (and water-related sports). They seem to carry a little bit of everything, from GoPro accessories to Yeti water bottles and accessories to $$$$ bicycles and fishing rods to shoes and swimsuits and sunglasses and sunhats and sunscreens. If you're planning a day or weekend outdoors, you probably can get things here that you didn't think you'd need until you saw them! Our go-to place for all things swim. They have a great selection of goggles (even kid sized and specific ones for Asian faces) and even kid sized competition swimwear and a massive selection of fins. You can order prescription goggles from here too. My husband usually goes for fishing things, but they also have bikes (obv) and some stuff for water polo, soccer, football, baseball, and wrestling - and athletic shoes. It isn't a giant selection, but somehow they usually have what you need. They do bike repairs at their warehouse on Hausten St. I feel like everyone here that I've spoken to is super knowledgeable or they know how to find someone who is. We came to McCully Bike to get baseball equipment for my son's first baseball season. The guy was super helpful and got us all the things that we needed. He was not pushy and gave us multiple options to choose from. They don't have a giant selection of baseball gear, but it was perfect for just getting the basics. They also carry baseball game and practice pants which was a big plus. While I only went there for baseball equipment, they pretty much carry every sport, even fishing. The store is a really good size. Parking is located in the back (no longer up the ramp on king st). There is a big mural, so you can't miss it. Bicycle, after bicycle, after bicycle problems! I lost a pedal on a ride so my triathlon coach recommended McCully bike shop to do the bicycle repairs. I had another bike that needed fixing but, I had been procrastinating about it because I wasn't familiar with any of the bike shops and I was concerned since I haven't had a chance to register my bikes yet. (I received my bikes from the mainland in January after moving here, went overseas, and when I came back the pandemic had shut everything down so I never got around to registering them). I called ahead to check the turnaround time which didn't matter since I was going to take the bikes regardless. I guess I called the main store because they directed me to the repair section. I am not familiar with the location so smartly, I asked if they were colocated, they are not! The repair shop is located at 932 Hausten Street. The location is right at the corner of Hausten off King Street. It's a little warehouse (you'll notice all the bikes outside) and they are open 9am to 5pm daily. Their gate is closed so when you pull up an employee comes out to help you. I have never been here before so I'm not sure if the times are different or if their protocols changed. Dropping off was easy. They asked what you need done and label the bike with a ticket containing your contact information. Half the ticket goes on the bike and you get the other half as your pickup reciept. I was given an estimate of one week turn around but, a day later I received a call to tell me that both bikes were ready for pick up. That same day they called I had training and had to use my "back up" bike, yes, a third bike! Well, the brakes on that bike decided they didn't want to brake, so, obviously, I needed to get that fix too!! I went to pick the two bikes I dropped off previously. Picking up was easy and the two employees that were there were really helpful. At that same time I was planning to drop off my third bike but, I was asked if I could wait, they would fix the brakes right away. Super helpful. I paid $75+ tax for all three bikes; for what I had done, I think the price was reasonable and I plan to use them in the future. She first asked for my shoe size, but told me to come down for a fitting. I told her I wore medium. Sure enough, the medium size did not fit. Luckily she had a medium-large and that fit perfectly. I took the fins and my Taylor's Mistake Handski out to Sandy's for a test run and they worked very well. Mitch was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. This bike shop was our 3rd stop we looked at for kid bikes. Bike factory in Kakaako and Bike shop on king st. provided horrible service. For all three shops, I straight up told them I'm not knowledgeable in "bike terminology/language" but I'm looking for a bike for my son that is good bike just for the streets and cruise. The first 2 bike shops just gave a look and had a vibe that they didn't want to help at all, and the other workers they are just looking and staring too while they did they repaired the bikes/ skateboards. We were in and out of those 2 shops within 5 min, and that tells you something, (either they didn't have what I was looking for OR bad customer service) and you bet this was the customer service that was horrible. McCully bike shop is the go to place, everyone is welcoming, helpful, respectful, and knowledgeable. What I paid for everything was definitely worth it. Random time start bike shopping because apparently they had a sale going on for bikes and helmets, which is what we came in for. I haven't been here in years but I'm so glad that they're still around. We went here because my daughter's hand brake on her bike kept breaking. It kept slipping out and not gripping anymore. My husband is not Mr Handy so he wasn't able to fix it. So last Saturday we loaded the bike and headed over to McCully bike. Looks like they don't utilize the top level parking. When I went there many moons ago there was parking upstairs and behind the building. We parked behind the building and there were tons of spots. I asked where they do bike repairs and the lady pointed me to the back of the store. I found the worker and he was very helpful. He started working on the bike right away. Looks like the cord was getting twisted around the neck. We decided to walk around while we worked on it. They have a variety of things in the store not just bike stuff. They have a small selection of running shoes. The thing that caught my attention was the running belts. They have ones I haven't seen before and they look very durable. In a matter of minutes, the guy who was working on our bike finished. He wheeled it to us in the store. It looked perfect and the brake worked! I asked him how much for the repair and he said nothing! Woohoo! Thanks so much for fixing my daughters bike. She was so excited to use her bike right after it was fixed. She was riding it as soon as we got to the parking lot. It really made her day. She's so excited to try it at home. Definitely miss Sports Authority. The prices here are definitely marked up, but unfortunately there aren't many options. The other thing that I was disappointed about was the poor customer service. Unless they know you, they will not greet you upon entrance and even when you need help, it's like you are bothering them if you ask to see shoes, for example. And this was not a one-time occurrence.
