La la la loooove this Macy's! It's so convenient for me. I've been coming here for years. The store has a great selection of clothes, active wear , makeup, shoes and handbags. I personally like their INC and Style & Co. clothes. It is kinda pricey for me, but I can scoop some up when they have sales. I also love their Last Act section. You can score on some great brands for super low prices if you take the time to look around. I find some good Alfani and Vince Camuto brands if I am patient enough to look. That section can get messy, but it's worth it to me if I can score some good clothing. They have a brow bar on the second floor by the makeup section. I went once and had a great experience. The girl that did my brows was super nice and explained what she was doing. I haven't been there in a while though, since I now wax my own at home. The staff are very nice and helpful. They check on me to see if I need help finding anything, which I appreciate. They also let me know about coupons they have or when sales are coming up. Right now there's the "Thank You for Sharing" program going on which I signed up for since I shop at Macy's a whole lot during the holidays so it does add up. I'm going through chemotherapy now and had misplaced/lost my all my credit cards. However shopping at Macy's today, I was still able to shop and use my credit card account so I could make a purchase. But since I was in the store, I asked where/ if I could report my credit card missing. The sales associate told me to go upstairs to customer service, and they would help out. Two women were there at customer service desk. The white woman told me that I would need to call the number on the back of the card and report it missing... duh! I lost my card! She then said i could look at my paper statement, but due to my balance being zero, i threw the statement away. Spencer a Asian associate, quickly picked up the phone and referenced a bright green piece of paper, and within 5 minutes, I was speaking to the person who confirmed my card lost and reissued me a new card. Thank you, SPENCER, for exemplary customer service! You made up for your partner' lack of aloha at the desk. You went above and beyond for me. Yelp 365 Challenge #56/365 I prefer this location over the other locations on this island. Although it is in Ala Moana Shopping Center and it is busy, there are more selections to choose from when you are looking for something in particular especially if you are a woman! I have given up on the juniors section since I turned 40 :) and will venture to the third floor where there are clothes that are tastefully for my age :) Parking? I have my preferred parking area that always has parking but I'm going to be stingy and not say anything (yet)! 3 stars...only because of Elisa and Megin (shoe department). Otherwise, it would've been 1 star. See Elisa and Megin in shoes... They were the ONLY salesperson/cashier to ask if I needed help. I waited for almost half an hour before anyone said "BOO". The one sales guy I did approach for help told me to go get the shoe, then he'd help - mind you, the shoe was right next to me! Then, he walked away!!! I would understand if the department was wall-to-wall customers, but it wasn't!! Uhhh.. This is why I do not care for/shop at Macy's!! On the other hand, Macy's should value their sales/cashiers like Elisa and Megin. They were both very courteous and helpful! The both of them actually deserve 5 stars!!! You ladies are awesome!!!!!!! I had an outstanding customer service experience at this Macy's during my recent visit to Honolulu. It almost felt as if I had been transported back in time to when retail customer service was way better. Multiple employees working the floor assisted me with the guidance that I needed. I was able to get a bargain on a sweatshirt for my return home. I've not received this high level of service at any Macy's in recent memory, so the manager must really be doing something right. I have been shopping here for many years. Ever since it became Macy's. I principally shop for clothes, belts, and shoes. However, I have and do purchase a variety of products here, from pots and pans to kitchen electronics to luggage to jewelry, and much more. The prices of these products are quite competitive and with their many sales better than anywhere else locally. During the holidays I always come here for Christmas decorations. With the closures of Sears and Penny's, Macy's has become the place to go for quality products at reasonable prices in Honolulu. I also shop here for presents for all occasions. This past weekend I went into their men's department intending to get a men's belt to add to my boss's tie from Nordstrom. They had a great selection of belts to choose from along the wall, so I selected a nice leather Geoffrey Beene belt that looked very classy yet elegant. There was no salesperson to help me at the nearest counter, nor the cologne department, so I carried it over to the next department to make my purchase. The saleslady in the Ralph Lauren Polo section looked a bit snooty, but was willing to ring me up. She then began with her interrogation on why I didn't have a Macy's card and why I didn't want to sign up for one. How frustrating. I too explained (just like a previous blogger) that I used to have one, but closed it, and she still wanted me to sign up for one. FRUSTRATING!! Then she just grumpily rung me up and I was on my way. Went to look for birthday gifts; watch- gshock & aloha shirt. All employees were more interested in themselves and their conversations rather than greeting customers and/or offering assistance. I was disappointed to say the least. I brought it up to one employee and her response was "I'm on my way to the restroom, who didn't greet you?". I pointed out 4 employees and herself made 5. 5 employees too busy chitchatting Instead of assisting and making sales. I had $10 credit in "rewards" to spend and was looking forward to earning more. Instead I went to fossil watch and local surf shops for gift shirt. I wish I could say this was a rare instance, but it's not. I went with my mom to shop for a dress in the prom area since she has a business event to attend in Japan. The lady in the fitting room was nice until my mom asked for a bigger size. She wasn't even helpful with what numbers were equivalent to L/XL. She made the comment "these are for juniors". After she left, I realized she was body shaming my mom and basically indicating that she's too old to be wearing a dress. When she came back, I asked her "you mentioned these dresses are for juniors, where would the women's dresses be?" She goes "well it is for junior and women". My moms dress wasn't fitting because of her bust so she needs to go larger. I don't get the whole attitude from the lady about my mom wanting to buy a prom dress as anyone can wear these dresses for different occasions. Very disappointed in that lady that works in the prom dress department. Will not be returning at this location as I do not support people that body shame and look down at people because of their image. read more

It's takes a bit to go through the maze of parking structures to find the store but they do have nice trinkets to reward you for making it... It's like winning a level of Zelda! You have to enter through the mall entrance on the side I came in and it's huge! It would be fun to just look through all the stores. But I was here to get my husband socks. (Not so exciting now, eh?) There are 4 floors with men's on floor 1. Macy's does carry quality items-it's so nice to be able to count on them. Of course, I didn't leave after that though. I went through their sale racks (lots of good deals!) and the perfume and beauty section. It's amazing the amount and variety of products they have. For once I got great service at Macy's and actually bought a pair of expensive shoes here. Generally I'd give up because the staff are too busy chatting or doing their own thing and move onto Nordstrom or something like that. Maybe Macy's in Hawaii is different. The shoes were hit and miss. Some were downright awful looking, but the Cole Haan and Coach ones were pretty classic unlike the sandals which were mostly gawdy. This is the biggest Macy's on the island, I believe. It's almost overwhelmingly large. I started at the Kahala Macy's today, helping my baby brother choose appropriately clothes for his first internship. Although we found some gems at the Kahala store, the selection was relatively much smaller. We ended up having to go to ala moana to finish our search for clothes. Thankfully, today was a 25% off everything and there were some great sales to begin with. I like that the pineapple room is located in this Macy's. As I prefer other department stores over Macy's, the pineapple room gives me more incentive to come. I also like the make up counters, and although the workers aren't the friendliest, I like the promos. I also like the adjoining Starbucks, but there is always a line! Ala moana is going through major construction work and the parking around Macy's is absolutely atrocious. However, you can spend hours shopping in this huge Macy's, especially in the men's department because it's so big in comparison to other Macy's men's departments on the island. read more

Nicole in fragrance did a lot of leg work trying to get the atomisers or travel/sample sizes, gift packs, sales, other doorbuster prices and best deals for Mother's Day Sales. Great service by all, attentive and courteous. Update: FIVE STARS!!! Complimentary engraving for Esteē Lauder fragrances are offered and it's SO COOL! Cyndy's Bottom Line: There is a watch repair service now. . I was Christmas shopping and found out that there is now a watch repair service in Macy's. The family run business used to be located on the opposite end of Ala Moana which closed down so now they are in Macy's, I like the convenience of dropping off my watch for battery replacement and doing some shopping in Macy's. Dirtiest department store I have ever been in, I couldn't believe it. The staff are unmotivated, uncaring and sassy. I walked out of there with a good deal but thinking "at what cost?" The dressing room has trash everywhere, a bunch of white powder spilled all over the floor and a terrible smell. It was like being in a dirty public bathroom where you don't want to touch anything. last month in the women's formal dress department, I has to practically beg for a bag. The employee said I didn't tell her that I wanted a bag, so I replied sorry but I remember doing so. She then proceed to say It doesn't look like I need one. I have to tell her that I want a bag and I will pay for it. She eventually gave in and gave me the paper bag. I did get what I wanted, but such a strange interaction that was very unnecessary. I'm not too sure why she did that. read more

I haven't wanted to write a review for awhile until now. I had friends and family visiting so I had to find a place to get everything from bath to clothing. I didn't have time to try things on so my husband told me to grab whatever I needed and return later whatever didn't work. So I did just that but at every checkout stand I was asked if I wanted to open a credit account. I went to at least 6 checkout stands and was told over and over I would save more if I opened a Macy's credit account, I said repeatedly I didn't need another credit card and usually don't shop at Macy's regularly anyway, the nicest I could say. In response I usually had the clerk trying really hard to make me apply, even at one occasion two clerks were pressuring and guilting me. My husband even jumped in at one point when he saw I was having a hard time with the pressure. I get that they get a commission but it discouraged me from going back. Maybe I'll shop online at Macy's to avoid the judgment of trying to protect my credit score. Yea at the moment you might be saving a little but the interest rates don't make it worth it, so you're not actually saving unless you pay it off the next statement. Lastly it was a breaking moment being asked to open an account when I was just making a return. It was too desperate. It reminded me of being a teenager and taken advantage of by store clerks that had no pity and just wanted a commission. If I had any idea about credit scores, interest rates, annual fees, late payments and over credit fees then I would not had debt as a young person. Hopefully young people today are being educated on such things. read more

This is a very good Macys. Love the fact that they have so much more of a selection. The workers are very friendly and will gladly help you for what ever you re looking for. The makeup area is always busy, but they know what they are talking about...sometimes...one lady sprayed me something that is suppose to keep me cool and misted....what ever that meant, so even though my eyes were closed..what ever she sprayed burned like hell....me thinks not to let people do that again.. BUT The one thing that really kinda made me cringe is how filthy some of the racks and counters are...I mean yuck. I could write my name on almost every rack and shelf in the Mens dept...the side where they have the emp. door. Im pretty sure a big retail company like Macy can afford at least a duster...if not someone can run to Longs and get a swiffer... I went to Macys at the Ala Moana Shopping Center this evening walk into the Shoe department. Saw a pair of shoe that I liked and a sales lady approach I ask her what time they close she said in 25mns. Ok ask her if I could see the pair in a size 7 she ask me my name I gave it told her Lei while she was getting the shoes I went to the other side and looked around I found pair of boots/shoe I all wanted to see came back with the shoe I asked her for some sock so I am able to try them on but was too big then came back with the other 2 pair. She walked away to assist other and I ask the other sales person for a smaller size and I was trying the pair of boots and notice that the straps were broken she came back and I told her I wanted the pair if she could see if they had other one and plain out told me that was the last pair took the broken shoe threw it in a bin this woman had some serious personal problem so I went to the sale shoe and found the matching pair what a lazy lair she was. I told the sale man I was ready and he handle the final receipt and I was telling him how she was RUDE Very Rude and he said that they were the only 2 on the floor that kind of rudeness is not acceptable customer service I could not believe how this woman acted I got her name ARI bad no wonder that macy's store are close sales people like that has no business being is sales position its bad for business. Their lingerie department rocks. They have the best stocked lingerie I have ever seen in all my life, anywhere for that matter. It's neat, not in disarray, there were 4 women @ the cashier gabbing away, however when I asked one for assistance, she immediately came over to help me out. Perhaps because it's Hawaii, they had a wide assortment of strapless, halter, clear straps, you name it. Small sizes to extra large sizes. Top brands I usually buy @ Nordstrom back in the mainland. However the selection/stock is much wider here. They have it going on. The saleslady said they are one of the top in the nation for lingerie. How lucky was I to bump into this place? I wonder if it's because they are the main supplier for the whole state of Hawaii? I mean, there's no Target yet here. There's no Nordstrom yet here either. Both are in the works. read more

Best Macy's location in the islands. There are four levels of shopping. It does pale in comparison to the Union Square San Francisco and Downtown Seattle stores that I have been to, but it is the best available in Hawaii. I remember when this was Liberty House, which was in business for over 150 years. Very apprehensive about the changeover and how it would affect the look of the store. But for the most part, the selection does appear to be a bit better than before. Interestingly I noticed they have retained a piece of Liberty House history. There is a inscription as you take the escalator down to men's apparel which says, " A tradition in Hawaii" which is the company's motto. On a sadder note, gone is the piano on the 3rd floor. There used to be a pianist playing while you shopped there which brought a little bit more elegance to the place. Going back to the store offerings, they are the best in Hawaii. See many of the usual brands found on the mainland and they do have a few sections dedicated to specific designer labels. Not as comprehensive as the Seattle store, but almost. They also have a great island wear selection that appeals to local tastes. Prices are pretty competitive and the Macy's Rewards coupons that they have make them a better deal. Service here is pretty good, compared to what I received in the PNW. I attribute this to the aloha spirit. Overall, Macy's Ala Moana is a great place to shop in Hawaii. read more

It seems everytime I walk into Macys there's choke stuff on sale. Hint: always use the price checker I found shorts marked down 50% off from about $39 but, they were actually $8.66. I bought 2 styles. Walked in there today to buy a belt and walked out with the belt and 3 dress shirts. The staff is very friendly and always try to get you the best discount. I've been shopping at MACY'S department stores since I was a child---it's one of the few in existence today, from my childhood, since Mervyn's and Montgomery Ward have long since been gone. I always visit other ones in my current city, and while traveling. Usually, carries a good selection of designer handbags- Dooney & Bourke, COACH, and Fossil, makeup like MAC, and jewelry like Lucky Brand and Betsey Johnson. Swimwear is always popular with me, too. Macy's has a brand that is usually priced well, too. I always hit the sales, too. There used to be a larger aloha wear section, located on the second floor, but now, it's kinda sectioned off in two sections. One would be premium- Tommy Bahama, Iolani. The other section is kitty-corner from that, carrying other brands, and including the Everyday Values (coupons are not valid on these items BTW) line of Jam's World @ $39.99 (one of my favorite, Made In Hawaii brands) near the swimwear (entrance/exit doors). I fell in love with a multi-colored swim coverup @ $28 but I was still browsing and I didn't want to purchase the first thing I saw. This one is way bigger than the small one on Kalakaua Ave. which only has womens & mens clothing, few handbags, few shoes, cosmetics, jewelry & swimwear (selection for women is good, though). And we always stop here every year we visit, so I am surprised that I am just writing up my review about this store. read more

I stopped in here for luggage accessories and the guy in the department was more busy talking to his coworker than helping me. They had a very small selection of overpriced toiletry bags. When we were there the up escalator was not working and we had to use the elevator which was littered with moms and their strollers. The restrooms are old and need an overhaul. read more

Macys is always my #1 go to shop when it comes to shopping not only because I'm a member with deals but just the amount of variety things you can shop for. Stopped by the Ala moana location looking for my step daughters shoes for her birthday present and when I asked about the item, the young gentleman with the glasses said they didn't have it. He didn't bother to even one second to not even ask me if I wanted him to check other locations which automatically an associate should to me anyways. I asked him if he could check the pearlridge location and he went or pretended to go in the computer to check and than told me that the system is down and than he told me to just call them. I was shocked because they should offer those service's automatically but to tell the customer that like seriously get your s__t together. Uugghh customer service has been very not good now a days. Don't know why is going on but people really need to think about the job their at or what they want because you shouldn't be working in a place where you're not loving what you do. read more

I usually go to Macy's when I need something for my home. Having a Starbucks on the 2nd floor is also convenient. Today, I went to get drinking glasses. The gentleman working in the bedding area, guided me to the glassware section. He also pointed out that there was a red-tag clearance section in the corner. I went to check out that red-tag area, and luckily found a 12-piece set over 50% off. The lady who rung me up was nice enough to open the box to make sure all 12 pieces were intact. FALSE ADVERTISING & BAIT AND SWITCH - for several days last week, Macy's ran a t.v. ad for their One-day sale. Included in the ad was mention of "Martha Stewart comforters at $20.99 - any size". On Sat. I went to the Ala Moana store and directly to the bedding dept. I selected a Martha Stewart comforter and brought it to the register. The signs by the comforter said, "60% or 70% off" but it did not give the discounted price. I asked the sales clerk if the comforter I selected was $29.99. She told me she "had no MS comforters for $29.99". I told her I saw it in their ad. She asked if I had a copy of the ad. I told her "no" because it was a t.v. ad. She then checked the computer on Macy's.com. She showed me there was nothing for $29.99. She told me it might be in the Last Act section. I checked and there was nothing there for $29.99. I ended up purchasing the comforter I selected and paid $70. for it. Later when I got home, I called the Macy's 800 number to explain what had happened. The person I spoke to checked with their supervisor and said there's nothing they could do. How can they run a t.v. ad for several days and not know about it? There was no signage indicating that "due to shipping delays, the item did not arrive, etc." I think they should have done SOMETHING to compensate for the misleading ad. read more

I was really disappointed in the service at this Macy's. My sister was looking for a prom dress and as when she finally found one she liked out of their selection, she needed help getting a size. Unfortunately, there was no one around to help. The closest workers we could find were two employees chanting with each other. When we asked for help, they told us, "Oh sorry, we can't help with that department." So we went back and finally found someone in THAT department. When we asked for another size she quickly responded, "sorry that's all we have." Then we asked if they had another one of the same dress cause the one we found on the floor was torn. Without checking the system or anything she responded irritated with, "No. That's all we have." She didn't bother to offer any help whatsoever. When we tried to tell her that her attitude wasn't very friendly, she went off defensively and kept raising her voice to us saying, "I didn't do anything wrong." When she started talking over us, I told her, "please just call a manager for us to speak with." The manager was nice and apologized for what had happened, but the damage was already done. My sister didn't want to deal with their messy selection. We ended up going to Bloomingdale's and receiving great service there. In comparison, the associate at Bloomingdale's came and asked us if we needed help and continued to offer us great selections. I would suggest, when it comes to prom dresses don't pick Macy's and go to Bloomingdale's instead. read more

Yesterday I had the WORST experience doing a simple return at this Macys store. I wanted to return these 3 jeans and it literally took 20-30 minutes because I had to repeat myself multiple of times that I wanted to return those items. Literally I thought the associate did not understand English, because of how many times Another associate came to help him and oh my goodness she was so rude that I just wanted them to hurry up and finish with my return. When they asked for "proof of purchase" I showed them both my phone then the guy associate asked me "are you doing a store pick up?" Obviously no I was not there to do a store pick up or else I would have said I was there for that!!! That just frustrated me to no end. Finally after going back and forth he finished my return but no "thank you have a nice day" He just handed me my receipt and stared at me like "ok what else do you need?" I snatched the receipt and walked away because I was just so over the stupidness and unprofessional ism from the both of the associates. Unfortunately I cannot say that i will not shop there anymore but I will probably think twice of doing the in store pick up. Because it is very apparent to me that none of the associates in that department have any to no brain cells to comprehend the simplest things. read more
