Having tried their spot in Pasadena, my wife and I visited their new spot here in SGV during their grand opening weekend. Their promo for the grand opening was BOGO with free toppings which we had to get a hold of. Located in the a very VERY busy plaza, you'll find yourself staring at each corner of the plaza as there's just SO MANY tea spots to choose from. Inside is basically just a small shop, not much space, no tables and just bench seating by the wall and two small chairs. Ideal to wait outside as it can get quite congested fast. My wife and I ordered two drinks, Golden Leaf Milk Tea and the Peach Black Milk Tea. Both with toppings - Green Tea Jelly and Boba respectively. Since it was grand opening, wait times were a bit long but not too long. Our drinks came out within 15 minutes or so and staff was pretty friendly throughout the whole time we were there. Plus points for being quick as well. Drinks were just like the ones in Pasadena. Tea flavor is not too overwhelming and very smooth overall. Boba weren't super hard and was easy to chew. I visited on National Boba Day bc they were offering BOGO on boba milk tea drinks. I've always visited the Pasadena location bc it was the most authentic boba on that street. Visiting this location in particular, it does feel like a downgrade bc there's a bunch of other options along this street. The store itself doesn't seem that appealing bc half of the store just looks like storage lol. Not too much space if standing around or wanting to sit and drink, so it's more to-go. I went ahead and got the the tieguanyin and peach black milk tea. They ran out of boba when I visited. The girl who took my order, she was more fluent in English, seemed to have a good grasp of operations around the boba shop, but the other who isn't that fluent lowkey seems to be confused working around here lol. They told me it would take 10 mins for fresh boba, so by the time with all the confusing and order and getting the incorrect drinks, I should have prob just gotten boba by then... but also didn't want to fuss about it even more lol. I got their winter melon latte with jiggly green tea jellies but the drink itself pretty much tasted like a normal milk tea just a tad bit more bitter? The sunshine lili tea had very refreshing bright tart pulpy orange juice that was a little extra fruity cuz of the passion fruit in it too and crunchy passion fruit seeds at the bottom. Kinda wish there weren't the seeds tho. The ACE strawberry avocado smoothie was pretty bitter and not in a good way but was smooth creamy, a bit icy, nutty, avocadoy, chunky, had a bright sweet strawberry puree, and qq agar bobas at the bottom. The king mango smoothie had bitter jiggly green tea jellies, a bit of pomelo pulp, and a fruity not too sweet mangoy slush. I took the opportunity to take whole family to try smoothies at Macu Tea San Gabriel when they offer a rare BOGO offer. Service is friendly. They are busy making tea and smoothies. The store is small, so it offers a few benches. The plaza has underground parking. We have both avocado strawberry smoothies and mango avocado smoothies. They both tastes great. Golden Leaf Milk Tea - 5/5. Floral and slightly nutty tea base. I'd recommend getting the fresh milk version over the regular milk tea b/c their creamer powder can be pretty strong. The smoothies are freshly made, so expect a bit of a wait. I think I waited about 20 minutes since there were around 10 smoothies ahead of mine, but it made sense once I saw they were making them fresh. The fresh mango at the bottom balanced everything out really well, and the jelly paired nicely with the mango for extra texture. I also got the golden milk tea with cheese foam on top and coconut jelly at 50% sugar. To my surprise, that one was very refreshing too. I tried the King of Mango Smoothie and it's very refreshing and delicious! Some sips can be a bit sour though because of the mango or bitter because of the pomelo lol. It was around 6ish pm and we went and wanted the King of Mango smoothie for $8.95 bogo deal but they were out and the only one available was the strawberry bo bo smoothie so I ordered that for $8.95 bogo deal but when I asked why it was taking so long apparently they ran out of strawberry so my only option was another drink altogether or wait for them to buy more strawberries for my order. We were already there for 30 minutes and I was enjoying my lamb skewers from another store I opted to wait. 20 minutes later I see them bringing in mangoes and strawberries so I asked to switch them all to mango smoothies instead. After literally waiting for 58 minutes we got our king of the mango smoothies to go. They were really good and tasty. I'll definitely be back again and I hope they stock up on all the best mangoes available in the SGV for their smoothies. This strip mall has plenty of parking but they also have street parking. $1 soft opening promo is for ONE drink per GROUP. The promo says it's for the first 100 customers. We would've gladly paid for separate orders, but the store manager made the point that they saw us come in together so we were only allowed a single $1 promo. While we were waiting for our order, we realized that the customer before us was able to get multiple because they were rung up by another employee who ended up getting told off by the manager to only do one per group. After wanting to try Macu for a while, the drinks were only decent. Even though I've had bad experiences with other tea store promos, the experience today left me with a bad taste with Macu and I won't be returning anytime soon. Where do I even start? On their Instagram post it said the first 100 CUSTOMER get to buy a drink(excluding some) for $1 but that is NOT the case. It is only one $1 drink per GROUP. I would believe anyone is paying for their own drink regardless of being or arriving in a group should be considered a customer which is NOT the case here. I did order a drink at full price, the orange mango tea, since it was excluded from the promo. It was pricey and really nothing special besides the fresh mangoes in the drink. I'd give it a 6/10... just tastes almost like any other fresh mango tea from other shops. There wasn't even any orange taste to it. Don't waste your time here. Don't waste your time coming here if you're trying to be one of the first 100 customers. The service is extremely slow and disappointing. I stood there for about 20 minutes without any assistance, which is unacceptable. On top of that, the cashier claimed the first 100 spots were already taken, but that didn't seem accurate based on what I was observing. This is probably one of the most unorganized boba shops I've ever been to. First, the $1 deal only applies to one drink per person in your entire party. Second, the "first 100 customers" rule apparently doesn't just apply to the $1 promotion--people ordering at full price through the kiosk are still being counted toward the first 100, which makes no sense. With so many other boba shops nearby offering much better service and clearer policies, this place just isn't worth your time or money. read more

So happy there's finally a Macu in SGV! I used to have to drive out to Pasadena to get my fix, so having this new spot so close is dangerous. I stopped by for their grand opening week and even though the line was long, the service was fast and friendly. They have the self-order kiosks which makes things way faster once you get inside. If you've never been, you HAVE to get the Bo-Bo Mango Smoothie. It has fresh mango chunks (you can literally see the crates of fresh mangoes in the back), green tea jelly, and the bo-bo which is like a crunchy crystal boba(easily the best part!). Their milk teas and green teas are also so fragrant, but it's the mango smoothie that got me addicted in the first place. The interior is super clean and bright, though it gets crowded fast since everyone is hyped about the opening.
