Could not recommend this spot enough. The food was incredible, authentic, and so fresh. The staff were unbelievably kind and made sure we were taken care of the entire evening. Loved getting to hear their story and learn some tips about their process making sourdough. We live across town but will definitely be coming back soon to try more stuff from their menu. Short version: New locally owned restaurant with great food. Absolutely worth a visit, and we're going to be back soon. Longer version: We visited on a weeknight, arriving around 5:30p. They've only been open for about a month. Service was attentive and friendly, food flew out of the kitchen, and the restaurant itself is clean and well put together. We had: Guajolata toast: Appetizer size, great for 2-3. Great piece of sourdough with a small tamal, refried beans, mole sauce, and salsa criolla Great mix of flavors and textures. Sopa criolla: This was a really big bowl of fantastic soup. Delicious and rich broth with a perfectly cooked egg, served with their home baked sourdough. Mole enchiladas: Enchiladas with house-made tortillas, and a terrific mole. Best mole I've had in the US. The perfect balance between that savory and sweet, and the externally provided condiments were great about letting me titrate my desired spice level. I ate every bite, and then asked for a piece of the sourdough on the side so that I could soak up and savor all of the sauce. +HIZO Bread a la mode: Seasonal, was a peach -based pound cake served with honey, ice cream a la mode, and some honey sprinkled with pistachios. This was solid, but the only part of the meal that wasn't exceptional; the pound cake itself was just a little on the drier side and cut thick enough that the ice cream/honey couldn't soak through everything. Still good, but not as outstanding as the rest. Purple horchata: Smooth, great flavor, and a perfect complement to the spice that I added into my dish. read more

I lived in Seattle for about ten years. One of the hardest parts about moving from a foodie city to Indy has been the lack of authentic anything. It's all chains and food service of America food - because of that, I rarely go out to eat. Our neighbors recommended Macizo so we went to check it out. SO GOOD. The food is fresh, authentic, and delicious, and it was tough to pick out what I wanted to eat with so many amazing-sounding options. Hidden gem, try this place! My husband had the quesadilla with red and green mole sauces over refried beans. I had the tiradito, a perfect traditional tuna dish served in a tangy lime-yellow pepper sauce, with a lingering heat. We were too full for dessert or purple horchata but they looked great and we will be back! The food was so delicious and like nothing we'd tasted before. So glad we tried Macizo after reading about it in the Indy Star. The food was delicious and we thought we don't live in that particular part of Indy we've added it to our "well worth the drive" establishments. The food was delicious and plentiful. The restaurant's backstory and future vision is engaging. The ambiance is coming along as they grow but the taverna style seating is charming and comfortable. The staff was knowledgeable and could easily point out such things as gluten free options. This is a husband and wife establishment both bringing the best of their Peruvian and Mexican culture. We visited for dinner this evening. We were informed we came in just in time for happy hour. I encourage you to try their Sangria! It was juicy and delightful. They had a chicken stew on special that seemed too good to pass up. Boy was I right to order it!! I ate the whole thing!! It's served with rice and a gorgeous slice of sourdough bread. It also had like 4 chicken thighs in it... it was definitely a dinner!! I dipped my bread in the broth, which was savory and comforting. The chunks of carrots, potatoes, and peas were perfection! They also sell loaves of their bread to take home. My partner got their spaghetti dish (I'm sorry I don't remember the names!), which had a nice kick to it! I have been wanting to try this place for a while.....and it did not disappoint. My wife, daughter and I shared two starters - meatballs and a chorizo and bean focaccia - meatballs were amazing with an even better sauce. Daughters had tamales verde, wife had a carnita dish with a smoked bean sauce and I had the mole enchiladas. A lot of food and it was all so good, probably the best mole I have had. Highly recommend the rose sangira. The staff was amazing, don't be embarrassed if you don't understand the dish, the waitress was happy to answer our many questions and with a great vibe and always smiling. We will definitely go back - btw, they bake their own sourdough and focaccia as well. And try the salsa matcha if you like some heat. I can't say enough about the food and the experience.
