The ambiance is a bit minimalist but you may like that. This isn't your standard bowl of chips and salsa on every table with a margarita machine going in the corner. The food was very good, but the menu wasn't your standard burritos, carne asada, etc. We had some open face tacos with ribeye and chorizo sausage. GREAT! There was also some salsa macha on the table and we dipped our sourdough slices in that. REAL ZIPPY and good. I bought a jar to take home. Off rip: Macizo is not your typical Indiana Mexican restaurant. (It's actually Mexican-Peruvian.) Do not be like the couple I saw while I was dining, and ask for chips and queso. When told that there were no chips and queso, they asked for chips and salsa. When told that there were no chips and salsa, they got up and left. I wish that couple would have done themselves a favor and stayed, and tried something new. You can get chips and queso anywhere. But you can't get the kind of Mexican-Peruvian food that the people at Macizo Restaurant are making. The food is some of the best in Indianapolis -- period. And apparently, other people think so, too, because the place was packed for lunch in the middle of the week when I visited. Also apparently, other people outside of central Indiana think Macizo Restaurant is great because they were recently named a 2026 James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef: Great Lakes. I was fortunate to visit Macizo for the first time during an in-person Yelp Elite event. I got to try many things on the menu, including the enfrijoladas (basically, an enchilada covered in bean sauce). Everything I ate was amazing. So, I came back! This time, for lunch on my own dime. I ordered the mole enchiladas, plus refried beans and white rice on the side, because you gotta eat rice and beans with enchiladas. The mole was amazing: slightly sweet, slightly spicy. The rice and beans were a good idea to add, because the mole is so flavorful and rich, so it needed a bland (in a good way) element or two to take it down a notch. Refried beans are kind of my litmus test of a restaurant. I can tell when they are housemade, and when they are not. These ones are indeed made in house -- they look and tasted like they were freshly smashed. Because I keep it a buck with y'all, I have to mention that I wish the chicken in the enchiladas was a little more fork-tender. But that's it! Everything about the mole enchiladas was delightful. We also ordered the Sopa Criolla, a Peruvian soup with diced beef, potatoes, angel hair pasta, milk and a sunny-side-up egg on top. It was a comforting and tasty dish, and it comes with a slice of freshly made sourdough bread. But that bread wasn't enough, so we ordered some focaccia, which I remembered from the Yelp event as being the best focaccia I had ever tasted. And yep, it still is the best focaccia! One of the things that I love about Macizo is that they are so unexpected. Who knew that you'd find the best focaccia at a Mexican-Peruvian restaurant? But yes, you will, and they sell their sourdough loaves and focaccia to go, too. I almost forgot to mention their coffee drinks! If you want to taste something spectacularly unexpected that you've probably never had before, try the Carmina Says: cold brew coffee with pineapple juice, lime juice and blackberry syrup. It's served frothy and in an elegant wine glass, for that extra-special fancy touch. It's like a coffee and juice in one beverage. They also have beer and wine, if you're so inclined. The service here is excellent. The owner herself was the one to greet everyone and explain the menu. She was super friendly and open to questions, and you could tell that she loved the food and what she was doing. The whole place is just full of cheer and amazing food and drink. read more

Had such a great time at Macizo. I went with a group on a Saturday, so it was pretty busy. We didn't realize they take reservations, but will definitely plan ahead next time. Even so, the wait was only about 20 minutes. I ordered the pasta huancaína and it was a 10/10. Flavorful and the perfect portion size. The spicy red macha sauce really tied everything together. We shared the molletes and the focaccia bread was soft and delicious. I also have to mention the sangrias. The rosé sangria is a must-try! Last but not least, the pear poundcake with ice cream was a 15/10. Definitely my favorite part of the meal. Can't recommend it enough. This is officially my new favorite restaurant in Indianapolis. After living abroad for a year, it was on the top of my list to visit when we returned. We went within days of landing back stateside and were warmly greeted by the owners. I already loved the experience before we even sat down. As we were walking to our table, we ran into a fellow Yelp Elite / Indy food influencer, so you just know it's the place to be. Our table wanted to order as many things as possible because everything sounded AMAZING. We started with the guacamole bowl because, obviously. Also, it comes with homemade sourdough bread that they make daily which was incredible too. As I was reading the menu, I read that the tamales are nixtamalized and ground in house. That is a huge deal as that's a more laborious process but is the absolute best way for humans to consume corn. "The processing renders the protein more digestible, allowing tryptophan to be absorbed by humans." Probably 90% of corn you eat out isn't nixtamalized so this shows that they know food and really care. We immediately ordered the tamales and they were the best I've EVER had. I absolutely love lomo saltado, so when I saw the burrito de lomo saltado, I was immediately sold. It was big, fresh, well-prepared, and came with a side of bean salad. I would order it again immediately. I wish I could have it again now, but it's only 9am - LOL. I've heard amazing things about the tiradito tuna appetizer, pasta huancaina, and mole enchiladas too. We were a group of eight and every single person's plate was completely empty by the end of our meal. Everyone was so happy with the experience and it was made even sweeter when the owners brought out freshly-made Mexican sweet bread that they'd just made for everyone to try. I mean... what a dream!!! We had our toddler with us and were so appreciative of the kid's menu, the fact that they had highchairs, and the comfortability of the space being so family friendly. Such a great restaurant! I've been here before but finally got around to taking my wife with me for late dinner and we LOVED it. They have mainly 4-person tables plus some bar seating, and the atmosphere and decor was lively and welcoming. We were able to get a table around without a reservation after about 40 minutes since it was so busy with Devour. The staff were very kind and patient despite us sitting down around 30 minutes before closing, and we never felt rushed to finish and leave. To start, we got the red sangria, seasonal agua fresca, and rajas con queso, which were all delightful! The bolilo bread was truly divine - like a thick focaccia (crispy outside soft inside) but sturdy enough to hold the weight of the heavy dip. For the entree, I had the taco norteño, which was so delicious and flavorful - the tortilla was great too. My wife has the enchiladas campechanas, and she loved the sauces especially the green mole. The red mole was nutty and warming, which was a nice complement to the green mole. The pickled red onions that came with the enchiladas really brought the ensemble together. Desert HAD to be the pear pound cake with the ice cream. The soft, warm, moist cake with the cold, rich ice cream was just a perfect way to end the meal. What a gem of Intech Park! I loved my experience here. This is not just another Mexican restaurant. It has more unique, authentic feel with a hint of Peruvian cuisine as well. Any Latin American food lover should come here. I went for the Devour Indy menu. It's a three course meal and four of us ordered different things and tried each others food. The meatballs- great sauce The guacamole bowl- generous portion, great with the sourdough bread served with it. Sopa criolla- my favorite Peruvian soup. It has an egg, pasta, beef and potatoes in it. I have to say it was worth the wait! The staff were amazing, so nice, helpful and they even gave us some recommendations. Now the food... I mean, THE FOOD! Macizo is Mexican - Peruvian and the tiradito was probably the best I've had in a while. We also got the torta de carnitas on a fresh focaccia (they make the bread daily!!). Been on my list for a minute but the announcement of a James Beard Award pushed me there. Ambience is easy, simple and accommodating. The service was personal, suggestive and friendly. Food A+....the guacamole paired with the House made Macha Salsa is sublime paired with house made warm bread(a first for me). The Macha Salsa, as explained by the owner(also our server) is Vera Cruz style. But the highlight of the 2 appetizers and possibly the meak were the tamales +Hizo. They were light and fluffy and delicious. We had the Burrito, Torta, Norton and per request the Enchilada Campachanos with 2 moles. All were outstanding and plates were cleaned! I always love coming in here. It feels like a warm embrace, especially with all of the kind staff here along with the owners! I started with the Jamaica and gosh I've never had a drink here I didn't love. Everyone at my table was raving about these. Next up were the mole enchiladas. I loved trying these but next time I really hope to get my hands on the taco norteño! I had a bite of my friend's order of the molletes and gosh it was so tasty! That homemade bread is incredible! So Macizo was recommended to us by a few friends plus social media hyped it up. We obviously took our kids, and I'm not sure if it's kid friendly...they didn't have a kids menu and the space was kind of small. For food, we ordered their housemade bread & guacamole which was good, but overly priced! We also had the mole enchiladas which were good but the chicken was overcooked. We've been following the construction of Macizo Restaurant on the Northwest side of Indy at Intech Commons. Located in the strip center with free parking. Today we stopped for lunch and we weren't disappointed. The owners explained Macizo Restaurant offers a unique fusion of Mexican and Peruvian cuisine and known for their from - scratch dishes. The wife prepares most of the from - scratch dishes while hubby prepares the breads from scratch. The average prices range from $15 - $27 and loafs of focaccia or sourdough bread is $10. 8 oz. jars of delicious salsa is $12. My husband ordered the 5 Mexican meatballs in the delicious guajillo sauce and served with focaccia bread. He loved the meatballs and the sauce. He ordered a beer and I had a glass of wine. I chose the Pasta Huancaina in the huancaina sauce, lomo saltado sauce and sourdough bread. I enjoyed the pasta and sauces thoroughly. I was looking for a place to linger over a long lunch with a friend traveling from the airport to Zionsville and this northwest spot fit the bill perfectly. I was greeted warmly and our server was attentive and excited to explain the menu to us. The cuisine is mostly Mexican with some Peruvian and I honestly want to come back and try everything. We had the guacamole appetizer, which was $15 but a huge bowl of very flavorful guacamole with a basket of homemade focaccia. Yum! The hype is real! The 5 star rating is well deserved. The food is truly special and adds a new dimension to the Indianapolis culinary scene. The restaurant has been opened only seven months and is tucked in a small strip mall off of 71st Street on the Northwest side of Indy. The husband/wife team worked together to assemble a fusion menu of their favorite foods from her Peruvian and his Mexican background. He does the cooking, including making breads fresh daily. All the foods are freshly prepared. The owner and our server, Luz, was welcoming, engaging, explained menu and made recommendations. She explained that the mole sauce is homemade and a house specialty. We shared a special appetizer of meatballs and focaccia bread (the breads are made in house). The meatballs were unbelievably light and delicious and the tangy sauce was fabulous. The meatballs came with several pieces of the chef's fresh focaccia bread. We shared a plate of the chicken tamales. The tamales are artistically presented. Luz explained that the corn was hand ground in-house to make the dough! The tamales are light and fluffy, like no others that I've ever had locally. The marinated onions that accompanied the tamales are downright addictive. I also ordered a slice of the sourdough bread, which is made in-house. The bread was chewy and delicious. Luz and her husband visited our table and checked on us. Water glasses were kept full. The dining room is minimalist and pristine. There is a small bar area. They serve a happy hour special of house made sangria (two glasses for $15) from 3 - 6:00 pm. Luz invited me to sample the sangria, which was the best sangria that I've ever had. It was full bodied and fruity. I'll be back for happy hour. The restaurant is bright and spacious. Service was excellent. We both had the pasta dish as it sounded different and interesting. It totally delivered. It looked like Mac and cheese made with noodles but it was really so much more. The sauce under the pasta was delicious and really changed up flavor of the dish and really made it unique. The star though was the homemade sourdough bread that came with the dish to sop up the sauce. A truly artisan bread. Macizo (pronounced mah-SEE-so) in Spanish can mean "solid," "reliable." The owners told me it's also a play on "mas hizo" meaning something like made above and beyond. And this place lives up to that name in every way. Tucked away in Pike Township on Indy's northwest side (right off the 71st Street exit next to Gatsby's) Macizo has quickly become one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the entire city. I tried it for the first time a month ago with one of my best friends and immediately knew I'd be back. When I returned this Monday, I left already planning my next visit... and reminded myself to finally write this review. Let me tell you why Macizo earned "favorite restaurant" status. 1. The Food The Mole Chicken Enchiladas are hands-down the best I have ever had in a restaurant. Authentic, rich, beautifully layered in flavor, and truly reminiscent of the ones our Mama Estela makes from scratch in Mexico. That's not praise I give lightly. The mole is balanced and bold, the chicken is incredibly fresh, and the portion is perfect. The guacamole? Also the best I've had at any restaurant. Bright, creamy, spritz of lemon lime, and clearly made with care. I've also tried both desserts on the menu that call back to that authentic Peruvian flavor. The pear cream shortcake was a genuine treat. The menu as a whole is diverse, thoughtful, and you can tell the chef has real talent and pride in the craft. 2. The Service This is the standout reason I'm hooked. Luz and her husband own Macizo, and Luz is genuinely one of the warmest people you will ever meet. She greets guests like family and somehow makes everyone feel seen and welcomed. Her kindness sets the tone for the entire experience. They even bottle their own salsas. So many options, all delicious, and they take time to talk you through them if you're curious. 3. The Atmosphere You can feel how much love they've poured into the space itself. I normally stay downtown when I come to Indianapolis but ended up staying in Carmel this time. After asking the hotel what their favorite restaurant was, they told me I had to go to Macizo. After walking in I was immediately greeted by Valentin, he walked me though the menu, told me I had to try the focaccia and the tiradito. The focaccia was amazing and dipping it in the tiradito sauce and salsa macha took it to the next level. BUT, the Tiradito stole the show, it is the single best item of food I have ever had Indiana and I 100% will be coming back any time I am in town. In addition, Valentin was a phenomenal server, attentive and friendly but not overbearing. I felt welcome the moment I walked in, the staff was extremely friendly and it felt like they knew everyone having dinner even if it was your first time in. We started with sangrias and they were delicious! For appetizers we got the queso and it was loaded with corn and poblano peppers, and I loved that they served it with this amazing homemade bread instead of chips. For the entree I got the chicken enchiladas and that was also pretty good although the chicken could've been a little more flavorful. We added some homemade chili oil to it for an extra kick and that made it perfect! This is one of the best choices in Indy now. We had the Sopa Criolla, a perfect hot soup for a cold winter day (or any day for that matter!), with small bits of beef, potatoes, and angel hair pasta. The soup is creamy (not spicy but you can ask for a chili based oil if you want to add heat) and infused deliciously with Peruvian aji panca chilis. Topped with a fried egg, the luscious runny yolk elevates the dish even more. Served with a generous slice of house-made toasted sourdough bread. The Burrito de Lomo Saltado is also a nice choice and has an interesting blend of Latin and Chinese flavors and is accompanied by a bowl of their bean salad. Luz, our server and one of the owners, is delightful and welcoming. She will happily explain the menu if needed. The restaurant itself has a warm and casual feel. Plenty of parking in front. This was our first experience with Peruvian food and it was amazing! We didn't know what to order so we entrusted the waitress decide for us. She did not lead us astray. At the end, she asked what our favorite was and it was like asking which child is our favorite. They were all amazing! We were a party of three. The guys had beer while I enjoyed the homemade sangria. I let them taste it, but that's it. I refused to share anymore! We got three different dishes and shared them all. It was so amazing, that we had to try out the desserts. Everything is homemade and made with passion and love. The restaurant is own by a married couple. If I could rate Macizo 1000 stars, I absolutely would. Incredible, I can't say enough great things about this place, the food, and the people! We went the evening their James Beard nomination was announced, so it was understandably very busy, but even so, the staff were one of the best parts - so kind, friendly, and attentive to everyone's needs. The food was also amazing (fruit with chamoy one of my favorites). Places with great food often lack with good service, but I would suggest that the service here is one of the best parts. Great ambiance, incredible food, and overall 10/10 experience. We will be back to try the rest of the menu. Loved it! The interior is sleek and super clean. They have only been open four months. We were told they are still working on the decor. The staff is spectacular! Kind and attentive, but not over bearing. We had a girl lunch and didn't mind that we sat for a long time to talk. We all offered something different and all were delicious. Very fresh and tasty! I had chicken tamales. They tasted different from any other tamale I've had. The corn masa was ground finer and a lighter color. Plenty of chicken and a bit of verde sauce on each one. Three in the order. Also ordered was the steak burrito that came with a side of beans and the enchiladas verde. Everyone was pleased! A load of sourdough bread was purchased to take home. We really enjoyed our meal! What a nice family business. We really enjoyed talking with Luz. We got to try a little of everything - sangria, guac, the corn dip, the tacos norteno, the enchiladas, and the pear pound cake! Sangria was excellent. Guac was delicious - served with focaccia which was unexpected, but we liked it! The corn dip needed a little more flavor, but when we added the spicy sauce that they bring to the table it was perfect. The enchiladas were awesome. The pear pound cake was very good, but I would have loved some sautéed pears with it! It didn't taste like pear at all. Still tasted good though. We were impressed! read more

Holy cow, where to begin? Nothing but rave reviews for this place. It's off the beaten path, far back from the road and just outside of 465. I hope word of mouth helps this place stay alive because the food and drinks are outstanding. I had the Pasta Huancaina, which is a great example of not judging a book by its cover. It looks like pasta covered in Velveeta sitting on a pile of thick brown water. Do not be fooled. The "Velveeta" is a mildly spicy aji amarillo pepper sauce and the brown is a lomo saltado sauce similar to a poutine gravy. They combine to make a rich and creamy pasta dish, with the pepper cutting the spice enough from making the dish too heavy. Add in their house made crusty bread and it's a perfect meal. If it isn't spicy enough for you, they have a house-made Salsa Macha to add some extra heat. Service is wonderful and helpful including one of the lovely owners who came to our table to deliver cocktails and explain the menu and restaurant history to us. read more
