We were seated right away on the patio which was perfect for the warm weather. Service was quick and we were very happy with the prices and portions. I will say I think the food leans on the mild side. They also give free chips and salsa which is a plus for us. The fried ice cream was also a delight. read more

I'm not sure what's changed--maybe new ownership? A few years ago, this place was fantastic. Now, it's a different story. First, the service was slow and dismissive from the start. We waited about 5-10 minutes just to be acknowledged. Our server gave us attitude and acted like he didn't want to be there. We had to ask twice for water--and even though we were right next to the water station, it still took 10 minutes. We asked for two root beers, and 10 minutes later, we got a Coke and one root beer. It got worse: Our dishes arrived 10 minutes apart, without any apology. When we mentioned one dish wasn't good after barely two bites, the server accused us of it being "half eaten" and refused to remove it from the bill. No willingness to resolve the issue--just more attitude. The margaritas? Premixed with "Patrón," as if that's top shelf these days. Oddly, they had plenty of tequila options, but apparently not for margaritas. In the end, our bill was $92.65. We left $100, the lowest tip we've ever given, but honestly, it was still too generous. We're not coming back. I hope that $17.99 plate and all that attitude was worth it. read more

I definitely recommend the biggest burrito ever (#11) because it was so juicy that I went thru 9 napkins. It was that good! It was by far the tastiest burrito I have ever had. My husband got the carnitas with a lot of meat. Both dishes came with rice and beans. It was Friday at dinner time and they were just a little slow before we got our menus but once our order was in the food came out fast and hot. read more

Our meal was fine, mas o menos. The thing is: A Mexican restaurant needs to have excellent rice and beans, and they'll be forgiven of many sins. The rice and beans at La Parada are just OK. Things kind of spiral from there. I got the chicken mole enchiladas, and the mole was super sweet. Mole is supposed to have some sweetness to it, but this was a step away from eating a dessert. We also got the carne asada, which was very chewy. It was so chewy that I had to instruct my youngest son on how to eat it because he was having a hard time gnawing on it and getting it down. They have a kids menu, and my kids both got mini burritos. La Parada gets a thumbs up for not serving the burritos with sauce on them. They are actual burritos. The kids' burritos are very small, though -- more like soft taco sized. This actually was a great size for my kids, but just be aware if you have kids with bigger appetites. Kids meals are served with fries -- there wasn't any other option. Chips and salsa are complimentary, and they were fine, too. I wish I could find another adjective to use to describe the food, but I guess "fine" will suffice. The menu is also completely too big. There are so many items that it's overwhelming. It's almost like they need to pare down the menu and focus on making the things they're good at. read more

had a frustrating experience with our server. When I clearly asked for no vegetables on my tacos, she insisted that I was wrong and claimed I hadn't said that. The issue wasn't just the mistake--it was how she handled it. Instead of listening or trying to fix it, she argued with me about what I ordered. What made it even more frustrating is that I had four other people at the table who heard me say "no vegetables," and they all backed me up. Despite that, she continued to insist she was right rather than apologizing or correcting the order. Mistakes happen, but arguing with customers--especially when multiple people confirm the request--comes across as unprofessional. I hope the staff can work on better communication and customer service in situations like this. Very rude service would not recommend overall. read more

For me, this is a true gem. The restaurant is bright, colorful, and cheerful. The food was good, and order a top-quality margarita with it. It's strong and delicious. The shrimp and chorizo cheese sauce was delicious, and their salsa was fresh, with chopped onions and herbs. The shrimp chimichanga was huge and perfect. We'll definitely be back! read more

This is my favorite local Mexican spot. I've been going for 15 years since they were in the teeny little hole in the wall spot directly south of their current, larger location. The new location has brightly colored and painted booths that add a fun character. The spicy pork tacos with cilantro and onion are always a hit or I love the shrimp tostada. I could eat one million baskets of their chips and salsa. The large margarita is the size of a fishbowl and sufficiently boozy. If you live or work on the near east side, chances are we have run into each other at La Parada... it's affordable, comfortable, and just all I want at the end of a long day. read more

I was looking for a cool date night spot with margaritas (in honor of Jimmy buffet). The is a trendy Mexican restaurant. It has a decent sized parking lot, a decent sized dining area and a decent sized outdoor patio. The dining area has a waiting area, booths, tables/chairs and a full bar (without seating). You will find a few televisions around the dining area for you viewing pleasure. The staff there is very friendly. The restaurant has a very extensive menu with all of your traditional Mexican favorites that include tacos, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, elote, tamales, flautas, chimichangas, and tostadas. They also have some very savory cocktails, including margaritas.....score. And be warned, the large margaritas are HUUUUGGGGGEEEE! I ordered the Enchiladas Suizas, which came with refried beans and rice. It took about 10 to 15 minutes for me to get my food. but just like pretty much every Mexican restaurant, they serve you bottomless chips and salsa while you are waiting. I also ordered a large Sangria-Rita to wash my food down. It was so large I had to sit it on the table and drink from there. It was strong and savory. I was going to go with the frozen Sangria-Rita, but my server gave her honest opinion about the drink and that she had gotten many complaints about the frozen drinks and did not recommend it. So, I went with the on-the-rocks version. My enchiladas were delicious. I really enjoyed and highly recommend them. It was tasty, fresh and hot. This restaurant is very hip, trendy and colorful. They have great service, and tasty food that is very reasonably priced. You really should check them out. You will not be disappointed. read more

Came here on a Saturday evening for dinner and was surprised at how busy it was! Despite the crowd, I was immediately seated and our server was prompt to get drinks started for the table. I ordered a veggie burrito bandera, which came with a side of rice and beans. For $11, the portions are HUGE and was only able to finish half of my plate. For vegetarian diners, they have such a great variety of dishes - tamales, enchiladas, soft/hard shell tacos, burritos, chimichangas, etc. There's something for everyone! The value of the food here is incredible and the staff is always friendly. I have never had less than a 5 star experience! Bonus: they have 2 tvs on opposite sides of the restaurant, so I was able to watch football while I ate :) read more

La Parada is my favorite walkable Mexican restaurant. They have outdoor seating and booth seating and a couple tables inside. It is usually pretty steady in the people in an out so you may have a a short wait. I wouldn't say the environment is calm, usually there is a lot of different things going on. I have never been done wrong by ordering the quesabirria tacos with the consume. The tacos are always flavorful and filling. I have tried a couple other dishes, i.e. the carnitas dinner, nachos, and a pineapple water and jamaica. The carnitas dinner was so tasty and a lot of food. I definitely would order again. I wasn't too keen on the nachos because I ordered - pork fajita nachos and received regular pork nachos, after I was assured that they could make that. The pineapple water was too concentrated for my liking but the jamaica was the perfect drink for a warm day. I will visiting more often because of the patio and to try some new dishes! read more

THE TACOS ARE DRY AS THE SAHARA I used to come here but stopped because the food was always inconsistent. Decided to give it another shot. BIG mistake. We dropped over $80 on 2 margaritas and 3 taco plates, and the tacos were bone dry with no flavor. The "asada" tasted like liver in witness protection, and the ground beef tasted like seasoned cardboard. The only redeeming thing? The margaritas. Phenomenal but not strong enough to wash down the disappointment. Come here if you're on liquid diet . Next time, I'll just drink my dinner.

Okay, so if I am being honest, this restaurant exceeded my expectations on so many levels! When you arrive, you are transported to a beautiful, vivid, and happy place. I don't usually like overly decorated places, but this place managed to bring all of the beautiful mexican colors to life in their restaurant. It was lovely. The service was so nice, our server was so thorough in answering our questions, very police and professional. The food was very surprising as well! The salsa given to us with the chips was nice, the taste of it was pleasant, I believe they used an herb called epazote when making the salsa, it gave it a distinguished flavor. The chicken mole, rice, and beans were so delicious, it was hard to pinpoint what region on Mexico the mole came from. It was sweeter than what I am normally used to, and it was a nice surprise! I do wish that the chicken they used was also cooked in the mole, I felt like the chicken they used they cooked it for that, and for other dishes, which is understandable as they have a very big menu. The two tacos were slightly below average, the meat was tough and not seasoned too much, even so, the green and red salsa they provided did make up for the lack of flavor the meat had. The green chicken tamal was very disappointing, it didn't really have any green salsa and it didn't have a lot of chicken either, which was disappointing. I do wish they would add salsa and maybe a bit more chicken. The horchata was good, and tasty, you can taste that it was made from powder instead of being made in house. That being said, their menu is so big, I felt like this restaurant was a good mix between Mexican and Western Mexican food. I would go back and try more dishes. read more

La Parada - Birria Tacos - Mexican Near Me - Indianapolis, Indiana

It's been several years since I left a review, so I thought I'd update it. Fortunately, it's still my favorite Mexican restaurant and the only one that reminds me of my grandma's cooking. Family owned and operated and much of the wait staff have been here for many years. The food is always consistent. I've had so many dishes here but my favorite is the Bistek Ranchero. It's a skirt steak marinated in a spicy tomato sauce with peppers and onions. It's served with corn or flour tortillas, rice and beans. Spicy and delicious! My family tends to lean toward the chimichangas, burritos, tacos and tamales. Always amazing! The ambience is what you'd expect. Definitely check it out! read more

A friend of mine has been raving about this place for a while now and we finally decided to check it out, and WOW, thank goodness we did! This place is awesome! The service is nice and quick and the food is phenomenal! We started with an order of Queso as Chips and Salsa were already provided. Both the Queso, Chips and Salsa were AWESOME!!! This salsa tasted fresh and came with fresh cut cilantro on top of it, YUM! I ordered the Birria Tacos and they were phenomenal. I know that Birria seems to be trending everywhere now, but this places understands the assignment. Corn tortillas that are crisped and ready to dip into the wonderful soup! All ingredients tasted very fresh and full of flavor! The menu is expansive and I do look forward to going back and trying out some different menu items as they all looked good. They also seem to have a choice for everyone, from the more authentic side to the Americanized menu items. If you haven't yet, you need to check this place out! read more

La Parada - Birria Tacos Plate - Quesabirria - Mexican Near Me - Indianapolis, Indiana

This is a gem literally 9mins from downtown Indy...seriously nestled in the neighborhood west of downtown. Service - our waiter was on it! Bubbly, prompt and personable....really don't have anything but great things to say...chips and salsa were also full and drinks filled. So nice! Salsa - so we are big on chips and salsa...super fresh with cilantro and onions and good flavor. They also have spicy salsa and green salsa on the table to use as you want. The spicy salsa was just the right heat on our food. 10/10 Cheese Dip - What is a Mexican restaurant without the notorious cheese dip. Small which is super personal, medium a group of four could Devour or large for that party helping. It's good!! Food - #3 Meal which is three tacos rice and beans. You pick the meat and the type or Tortilla whether it's corn or flour. Hit the spot drizzle some of that hot and good salsa along with some cheese dip and you are good to roll. Chicken Taco Salad - decent, lettuce onions guacamole sour cream cheese and your choice of meat can't go wrong. Chicken fajitas - helping is good enough for 2 to eat and be full. In other words good portion size!! Best Mexican Food near downtown hands down and local what more do you want! read more

I'm always looking for a new favorite Mexican restaurant and La Prada was highly recommended. It's totally bright and welcoming on the inside. A few items I loved such as the elote, the shrimp ceviche, and my margarita. I ordered a large shrimp ceviche which was huge with plenty of shrimp. I think a small would have been a more traditional ceviche in a bowl but go with the large. You have enough for a couple days. The chips were pretty basic. I prefer a thicker chip served hot. Also the guacamole was runny. Not sure if that's normal for them or just a one time thing. The elote was excellent and now I want to try and make it at home. The staff was helpful and a lot of fun. I would go back for the dishes I did like anytime. read more

La Parada translates to "The Stop" and this is most certainly my go forward stop for quality Mexican cuisine. I was feeling hungry and a little homesick this Easter and badly craved menudo. Was delighted to call and find out that La Parada was open (and bustling) on Easter. I've driven past La Parada and the positive reviews have further left me intrigued. I can finally say, yes this is an amazing restaurant. I ordered menudo which I was not expecting to get at 2PM on a busy weekend but La Parada delivered. I've had some disappointing menudo in Indianapolis so far but the menudo here sings home. The menu is quite expansive so I will be back and will report on other great items. read more

Living in Fountain Square, I've been visiting La Parada for years. Every birthday, graduation, and prom, La Parada has been my spot! There are so many Mexican restaurants in Fountain Square and around the area, and finding one that stands out is tough, but La Parada always does. This past Saturday, our waiter, Carlos, was quick, accommodating, and hilarious. We started with queso, chips, and salsa. The salsa here is fresh and topped with cilantro and onion. We took a 32 oz to survive off of for the weekend. The queso is also perfectly spicy. My boyfriend ordered the steak taco combo, which was terrific, as always. I decided to try something new and got the birria tacos, which were absolutely phenomenal. The tortillas were perfectly crispy and the birria soup was full of flavor. Last 3 times the same waitress "forgot" to give my card back. Had to ask for it back all 3 times. The last time the same waitress comes rushing over to wait on us. There was 3 of us. we ordered 3 regular combo items (around 15.00 a piece) we all 3 ordered cheesecake. We wanted the one with the berries on it. No berries just cherries, she says . We went and saw the 3 with berries on it. She brings the manager over like we were in trouble in grade school. "NO berries only cherries" both glaring at us. "ok let me show you". I take the "boss" over and say politely "see there's one, there's 2 right there". Looked at me in disgust brought our cheesecakes over and the bill was over 90. 3 15.00 meals, 3 cheesecakes, 3 waters-over 90.00 she brought the credit card back this time but enough is enough. wont be back. read more
